I went to the Phoenician a couple days ago and I ordered the tomahawk and when I received it, it was not cooked properly. The staff members were telling me that the food is amazing which they lied. I thought I was at a fancy restaurant and not a zoo! There was kids running around like animals. The manager was rude to me and her staff. The staff members look miserable being there. It's not safe to eat there. Tables aren't 6 feet apart. I would not recommend eating there. read more

My husband and I ate dinner at the phoenician steakhouse last night. We will never go there again. The service was poor. Also I spilled my cocktail by accident. It took forever for someone to help clean it up. Then I was told that they would not replace it unless I paid for another one. The owner was very rude and very inappropriate. The wine, the appetizers, sides and service were excellent. The only bad thing here was the steak. Ordered it medium rare and it came out well done and had to send it back. Only for it to then come less than 5 mins later and was so rare that the meat looked like raw tuna and inedible. Probably our favorite steakhouse on our drive upstate from the city. My fiancé and I will leave extra early on a Friday just to make it here for dinner. The steaks are by far the best we have tried, aged to perfection (they age them up to 45 days) paired with an extensive selection of fantastic wines. Our favorite appetizer in the menu is the clams oreganata which are delicious each time. The staff is very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Great menu, friendly bartender and waitress, those were the only good things. I ordered the Prime Delmonico Steak with broccoli rabe and gorgonzola for $33. The steak was seasoned well, but it was a very fatty ribeye, I never had a ribeye called prime. It came with a carrot asparagus and a slice of red pepper. I also ordered cream spinach it was ok. To be honest- I've been disappointed many times like everyone else at various restaurants but this is the first time in a long while that I felt like I was whole heartedly ripped off. My parents are moving to the area after their retirement so for sure they (we) would love to have another good restaurant and we were excited for this one. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated (except for the bathrooms, which could have been in a new McDonalds...) and it definitely has the right "lodge" feel to it. We arrived right after opening and were quickly looked right over by the hostess-cum-waitress. After picking our table we were brought 4 different menus: the menu, the special, the wine list and the beer list. All of the menus had more than enough selection (unless you wanted an entree salad or chicken dish...) but you'll be floored by the prices. I understand they are trying to cater to a "city" crowd here (I've lived in Manhattan for years...) but the majority of entrees I saw were $25-$40+. I ordered the Scallops ($26), my father the Salmon ($26) and mother the sea bass special ($29). My mother asked about what the sea bass came with, to which the waitress looked at the menu and responded "nothing" because the menu only mentioned a citrus ginger sauce but "sometimes they will give you what we call a 'garnish' which might be a piece of asparagus or spoonful of mashed potatoes..." So she ordered a side of Roasted vegetables ($5). The food came quickly (too quickly)- The salmon on a bed of asparagus, the sea bass on "risotto" and spinach and my scallops on the same "risotto" and spinach. Interesting note, all three were plated the exact same with the exact same sauce...?? (I'll assume it was the citrus ginger sauce...). The three entrees were okay at best, two a bit under cooked and the risotto was definitely just gooey brown rice. Interestingly enough my beer was $6 and my mother's Cabernet $8... Which I thought was more than fair. The rest, totally not worth it. Again, I would love to see more great restaurants in the area but the owners need a MAJOR reality check here, especially since they have 3 other restaurants IN TOWN which are usually great and realistically priced. Save your money, goto Brio's (same owner) and have some great pizza three nights in a row for the same price as one meal here. read more

So excited to have this restaurant added to the choices in the Catskills. This was our first time and we were very pleased with our evening. First, we were warmly greeted at the door and promptly seated. The ambience hits you as soon as you walk through the door. It is lovely. We did not find it to be that noisy as one reviewer mentioned. It was about 90% full on the restaurant side. Most importantly, the food was excellent. We had both baked clams and raw clams for apps. Delicious. For entres we had the the red curry seafood and the scallops - both wonderful. My husband's comment was "that they have a very good chef back there". Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant. This has become my "Go to" favorite restaraunt and I try to get up there at least a month to try the specials even though it is over a 45 minute drive. My wife and I have tried almost everything on the menu and have never found anything we did not enjoy. If you like steaks there is noplace within 75 miles that can compare. The porterhouse for 2 is as good as if not better than NYC top steakhouses (and yes i have been to most of them). The raw bar items are always fresh and the appetizers are original (pear pizza....yum) and keep you wanting more. Be careful you may not have room for dessert (they have better key lime pie than I have had in the keys). They have a nice wine list and great cocktails from the bar. The dining room can get a little loud but if you get up there in colder months make sure to ask for a table in front of the fireplace. The wait staff is professional and usually right on point with service. Make sure to check this place out if passing through Kingston on the thruway. Head 25 minutes west and you will have no regrets. read more

Ate here on Valentine's Day while staying down the road for a ski weekend. I made reservations the evening before and was very glad I did as the place was packed. The food and service were really great. My boyfriend got the red curry seafood risotto which was so delicious that I was almost jealous but I was too busy devouring the awesome halibut dish I ordered. Ive gone to The Phoenician steakhouse twice now and both times it was great. I'm glad to have a good staple for a hearty and tasty meal after a hard week of work after I get off the road from a long drive. The calamari was so good the first time that I ordered it on my second visit and it was just as good and perfectly cooked the second time around. The NY Strip (Medium rare) was excellent both times as well. (Get the Au Poivre sauce to go on top its fantastically naughty-delicious!) Had also tasted the Papardelle Bolognese pasta dish which excellent. Fried clams were really good as a special appetizer one night and the Rack of Lamb was I kid you not: Out Of This World. We had diner at the Phoenician one evening en route to a weekend on the slopes. We didn't know what to expect and the whole diner was superb. Their special, "zuppe di pesce" was amazing and extremely fairly priced ($49 for 2 inc. salad and dessert!!). It's a pumped up clam bake, with a lobster, clams, mussels, shrimps and calamari on a bed of pasta! heaven! and huge.. OMG IN MY 48 years of living NEVER WAS MYSELF OR MY FAMILY TREATED so beyond POORLY than we were at the Phoenician Steakhouse In Pheonica NY tonight 7/20/19. I went to Dinner with my husband, daughter and elderly father. Our waiter was great full of personality. The owners are down right mean and insulting!!!! The restaurant-was dark and we saw the lights on at one side and off on our side. We asked a random girl who walked by our table to ask management to please turn on the lights on. They did turn it on in one area on our side but they did not turn on all the lights on our side like the ceiling had on the other side of the restaurant. We asked her why she replied with a rude attitude the lights do not work. I asked three times for the manager to walk over to our table and they never did. I got up to speak to the manager and the minute she looked at me she said "she is not turning the other lights on, it's her restaurant and she can what she wants". Really she could of said hello when she walked up to me and then asked what is wrong? Even if she knew. I was being polite why couldn't she? I looked at her at said really you could explain all this nicely no need to be rude. I sat back down at my table and my husband saw I was so upset about to cry. No restaurant owner ever treated me like a door mat for no reason. Our food just arrived to the table and I had knots in my stomach. I should eat at this restaurant and pay when I am not an appreciated respected customer???? My husband said I am going to speak with them. He spoke to the husband owner Mike Ricciardella who was rude and mean as well. For starters he told me told me to stop pointing, I happen to speak with my hands and was speaking in a quiet nice voice and meant nothing by pointing. Then he said "that I could sit down and eat dinner or leave he doesn't care". I explained my father couldn't see the menu or the food he was eating he said "too bad turn your flashlight on on your phone". Shocked and amazed that a restaurant owner could be so cocky. I explained we ate at his restaurant last year when we were in town and came back but now after how poorly you are treating me maybe I should of chose Red Onion he replied "good go". He also accused by husband of cursing which never happened he lied and made that up. I went back to the table and told my family what he said and we literally got up left and walked out of restaurant. I never in my life ever did this. All of this could of been avoided if they were nice and explained why the lights are so dim and not all on. It is all about how you communicate, tone and being respectful. It is sad and pathetic people like this exist in our world who are mean and evil and they are clearly in the wrong business not a customer service persona!!!!! And he should be ashamed after owning so many restaurants in the area over the years. I feel bad for the employees that work for them. WORST EXPERIENCE to a weekend I planned and looked forward to for so long. I work hard for my money and if I am not an appreciated customer I am NOT SPENDING A DIME!!!!! Came to The Phoenician for Valentine's Day for a steak dinner. We had a reservation and were seated promptly as well as getting our drink orders promptly. A warm basket of bread arrived shortly after, it has a subtle cheesy crust. We started with a dozen raw oysters which were HUGE and also delicious. And around this time is unfortunately when the service started to wane - I mean it was Valentine's Day so I get it. I ordered the filet mignon which comes with a small scoop of mashed potatoes and green beans, my boyfriend had the rib eye. I thought the port wine reduction was very good with the filet mignon. We also had a side order of broccoli rabe, it was pretty standard. We finished with the apple crumb pie - beware it is HUGE! I'd say it's large enough for 4 people to enjoy. Visited on a Sunday night and opted to eat outside. The premise is nicely done and the outdoor space is aesthetically pleasing. The place gives an impression of a high end restaurant and the menu pricing was consistent with that impression. It appears that management is catering to diners from the city. The food was good but the restaurant missed on various points which you would expect at a higher end place. The waiter was not very personable and barely spoke. He did not offer us a dessert menu and did not run through the specials - I had to ask for a dessert menu. Drinks were served in plastic cups and we were provided with paper napkins. When we sat down, there was no silverware or plates on the table. When we asked to split a couple of appetizers, we did not have dishes and when we asked for dishes, they provided very small bread dishes. There was also a noisy group with out of hand children that definitely took away from the experience. So, I would recommend some attention to these details given the price point - although the food was good, in order to deliver a higher end experience which is what management seems to want to accomplish, they really need to attend to these details or lower the prices! I'm not a prima Donna, I just would expect a higher level of service given the menu pricing which is definitely on the high side for upstate NY. read more

Additionally, when a meal and 2 drinks is over $150 the service should be excellent, but you will not find this at the Phoenician. Food was decent. (To be fair, I had a cold. So the short rib ravioli was probably more than decent.) I found the service to be fantastic. We had no reservation on a Saturday night, 6 adults and 4 kids. They could not have been more accomodating. Our waiter was super nice, and when my nephew became ill he quickly had his and his mom's food wrapped to go. The only thing I didn't love was the ipad for ordering, seemed a little slow and clumsy.
