The only restaurant nearby that's actually decent (+) service was great (+) very kids friendly, they offered coloring books for my toddlers so I get them off the iPads (+) food was amazing, and the only decent spot near there (+) had WiFi which I have to call out because that town has absolutely no service and we couldn't even figure out how to get back to our Airbnb without internet (+) loved their seafood pasta, didn't know it came with a whole half lobster , well worth the price (+) their kids meal was amazing too, ~15 you get a drink + ice cream when you leave

Very beautiful spot near belleayre mountain. We enjoyed a lovely dinner. And the food was delicious. My drink was wonderful for a mocktail lol.

You probably would not want to set foot in this place now if it still looked like it did in '01. I remember walking in back then and the air smelling like cigarettes (ewww), I think it had burgundy wall-to-wall carpeting, orangey color woods and bland food. Utter disgust. I even forgot what this place was called back then. Well, things have changed for the better at this steakhouse in the sticks in Phoenicia. You wouldn't have a hard time missing Phoenician at all because it's on Route 28- but slightly off to the side of the road. Its polished, light grey façade can't hurt either. The modernish design continues inside. Similar to a steakhouse style, Phoenician's got those looks too. Due to Phoenician's sheer size with a large bar area, a dining room to the right and one in the back- plus the menu variety on offer, this is rightfully regarded as a steak dinner (or seafood, Vegetarian) paradise. Our server Alfredo did not only do his job- but he was pleasant. Cocktails missed. But I'll stick to wine next time. Both our salads were wholesome- but our warm Tuna in a wonton 'bowl', wasn't raw so didn't appreciate at all the over-doneness. Hubs liked his medium 16oz NY Strip- and would've loved it even more if it had a dash of salt. My swordfish tasted delicious with a lemon-ginger sauce- but it was extremely thin and made me wonder if they had a swordfish steak and sliced it in 3. I wasn't a fan. I'd try something else next time. Phoenician left us with a stunned look on our faces- in a good way that is- especially with their new design upgrade. Plus hubs wants to return. If nothing else, this is one of those got-to-try-it-at-least-once restaurant. And if not, this is a return after return after return...

Place is just ok. Stopped by while skiing at Hunter mountain to grab some seafood and steak. Steak was very tendon-y, chewy, and just not flavorful. The Seafood Fra Diavolo was a solid choice. Came with a generous portion of seafood and would probably recommend. Very overpriced but expected given the menu and the limited options in the area but probably would've been satisfied with some McDonald's had I know everything would be sub-par

Large restaurant with high ceilings fairly modern decor very friendly service. Great espresso martini the clams were delicious. The steak was as good as anything you would find in New York City even the crème brûlée was good and the wines were tasty definitely one of the best in the area.

You know, Phoenicia is a small town. It's beautiful there. Who knew I would have a pretty exceptional dinner up there. I came the Phoenician and enjoyed dinner at the bar on my stay in that area. It was just three minutes away. The bartender was very friendly, and I met a regular, keeping the conversation flowing. And then to food started coming... I ordered two things, first was the equivalent of fried mozzarella, 'Panko Crusted Morzzarella'. They took this big hunk of mozz, and fried it in panko, to perfection. It was the right temperature, and just the right amount of seasoning...drizzled with a balsamic glaze. This say on a warm salad of some garden green like arugula, with several marinated plum tomatoes. It tasted like they were marinated in balsamic. (Important context, I believe balsamic and tomatoes/mozzarella shouldn't go together 90% of the time). Bringing these components together in this way, was quite delicious, and perfectly executed. It wasn't too overwhelming of a balsamic flavor, and yet the tomato and mozzarella were allowed to shine through. The cream, spicy penne with grilled chicken was also amazing. It was such a well-executed cream sauce, with just the right amount of spice, seasoning, and heat. It was hot the whole way through, and I found myself almost licking the dish (had I not been in the presence of a lady). It was an amazing food experience from start to finish and I will strive to go back (despite a 2.5 hour drive).

Service was friendly and quick. The steak was delicious and cooked to perfection! My son thoroughly enjoyed the Fra Diavolo. Absolutely a perfect way to spend Father's Day weekend!

Two tomahawks later... I can't believe I didn't write this review when we came last year! We were looking for a restaurant between Albany and Binghamton yet south and close to us. Did we get lucky. The food was great, we had the crab meat stuffed shrimp, stuffed veal chop and two toms. The atmosphere was perfect for celebrating a birthday. Afterward we said this will be our annual birthday spot and so we'll be back in two months. The service was spotty at first but overall very efficient and pleasant.

Think log cabin feel, comforting food and super nice service- sitting directly on Route 28 in Shandanken. JRocco's accommodated us in no time. And since it had just stopped raining buckets and the weather was crisp out, coming here about 15ish minutes from where we're at, seemed fine for dinner. Even calling ahead of time to find out what time their kitchen closes, was cordial. I had a feeling we'd be in good hands. Gravel parking lot is big and so is Rocco's. Sizable bar on right and dining room to the left. Just look at their large upright blackboard listing their menu items and order before sitting(?). Our server who tripled as that, bartender AND helping in the kitchen mentioned we can sit down and order from the table because it wasn't so busy. I honestly took a picture of another blackboard resting on the floor and dissected the menu from our seats comfortably. 'Steakhouse' is in their description- but the look is farm from it- lumberjack design is better off. The music in the background sounded like Bluegrass and didn't intrude. We started with the mozzarella triangles that had major melt factor. Not extravagant- but they were gooey alright. Hubs ordered a NY Strip in Medium and loved it more than a steak he had the night before! He'd mentioned the steak at Rocco's had tons of flavor and the char cinched everything. My Black Bean Burger was delicious with a wonderful heat kick in the end. The pepper jack cheese (as my selection) didn't melt- but that's alright- because the flavor was all there. And if that wasn't enough, tater tots sealed the deal in my dish. And their cocktails? Don't be fooled by Rocco's appearance- they were nicely done- especially the 2 Lemon Drops I had. They don't have a 'cocktail menu'- so come prepare and know what you want. A Lemon Drop is classic and our server knew it- just don't come in with an artisanal list of cocktails and expect a entire lab process. The reviews are 100% correct: the service is beyond incredible and so pleasant. The food? Wholesome and so tasty. This isn't high-end whatsoever- J Rocco's is about minimum fuss and maximum satisfaction.

Our meal here was a bit disappointing. Their menu is different from what was posted online. We came wanting to try the brussel sprouts. Online, they were described as crispy, but turned out to be roasted with pancetta. I was also eager to try the soft pretzel. Online, it mentioned it came with a three cheese sauce, but at the restaurant it was served with beer cheese, which I can't eat. The name of the restaurant literally has "cocktails" in it, but they were out of nearly all of their fall cocktails. That being said, we tried to redeem the experience. Our waitress was friendly and kindly let us know that the sulphur in the tap water might be irritating, so we ordered bottled. The house salad was nice and fresh, and I loved the tanginess of the lemon vinaigrette. The mac and cheese was a generous portion size. It was a bit bland and could've used a sharper cheese, but it was very creamy with a nice baked top layer. The broccoli side was tasty and well seasoned with garlic. The onion rings were very crispy and also a good portion. My husband had the New York steak and enjoyed how buttery it was. However, they initially forgot to bring him a steak knife and it was hard to flag down a waitress to get one. Overall, we left full, but our expectations were not quite met.
