Ran in to get 2 of my daughter's identical uniform skirts slightly raised, that she had already previously hemmed. She told me she was going to charge more for 1 to hem, the same length as the other, since it was a few centimeters longer. I said, wait, you hemmed it originally to be the same length with 6 others, why are you charging me for your mistake? Argued with me awhile then said, fine $25. I said ok. She smirked and said $25 EACH. $50 to simply hem 2 identical skirts. I said, what are you doing? Took my business to Milos down the street. Got a fair price, $14 cheaper. Just unethical. read more

My weight has redistributed a bit in the seven or eight years since I bought my suit. Not to mention, fashion has changed, favoring a slimmer cut in the pants. The choice was to drop $500 or more on a new suit that I might wear a couple times a year and donate the old one to charity, or see if it could be saved. My daughter found Phoenix Alterations in Yelp, and I took a drive. I found a cluttered, but neat and clean shop on a busy stretch of Cave Creek Road, with Ms. Liudmila busy at her sewing machine. She had me put the suit on and stood me up on a platform and set to work. She pinned the sleeves and bottom hem, turned the pants up, suggested a slimming the cut off the legs. It was a pretty extensive rebuild of the suit. The price she suggested was not trivial, but a fraction of the price of a new suit. I was on it. Two weeks later I have a suit that actually fits! This is the most argumentative and unprofessional person I have encountered in quite a while. After discussing what I needed, which was a very straight forward hem in lightweight curtains I reluctantly left them with her. Estimating that it would take 15 minutes per panel, she's charging $60 bucks an hour for hems. For complicated work, that might be fair, for this it's not. It's not just the pricing, it's her very bad customer service and bad attitude. When I picked them up she informed me that part of the work was not done because she forgot to do it, but I could come back later if I wanted. Drove 15 minutes out of my way to have a hole in a sweater fixed. The lady looks at me and tells me my sweater isn't clean and I told her I could take it somewhere else and she puts her hands up in the air like she doesn't want it. I tried Phoenix Alterations because I had recently moved to the area and was excited to find a place so close. Luidmila quickly finished altering five pairs of slacks, so I believed that I was off to a great start. After 2-3 washes, I noticed that the hems on all of them started falling out. When I took them back to her, she pretended as if it could not be her work, because I didn't have the receipt. Surely, you know your style of stitching I insisted. After some back and forth, she found a copy of the receipt in her files (after I repeated my pick up date sevearal times). Then she claimed that she was not responsible, because almost two months had passed and there must be something wrong with the washer or the way I wash clothes. I informed her that I have been wearing dress slacks for nearly 50 years and none of the hems have ever fallen out within a few washes. It wasn't like I washing them on the side of a river bank and scrubbing them inside out with stones. A great deal of my slacks are years old, and the hems have survived many machine cycles. She then said that they became undone because of the kind of work that I do. What?!? I told her that I'm in an office not hiking through the desert barefoot with my pants rolled up like Huckleberry Finn. She insisted that there was nothing wrong with the work and that she would redo them for $5 each. Insulted, I gathered them and left. When I took them to another seamstress, she told me that Luidmila clearly didn't check to see that the stitch had caught the fabric. She then pointed out all the areas around the hem that were poorly done. Needless to say, I was highly disappointed in the way I was treated and not serviced. She chose to blame blame the victim, talk down to me, and question my intelligence... bad business. Luidmila could have easily salvaged the relationship and gained more referrals by taking responsibility. read more

Would not accept jeans that were slightly worn and told me to come back after I've washed them thoroughly. Needless to say, I was thankful for that out. When she told me $40 I told her that unfortunately the price was out of my budget as $40 was more than what I originally paid for the dress. She made a rude comment to me as she took out the pins and as I was changing out of the dress she told me I owed her $10 for pinning up the dress. Are you kidding me?! I learned of Liudmila's service through a very dear friend, who told me that she has tried many places, and no one delivers like Liudmila. Indeed!!! I travel a lot and buy clothes abroad. I have no concern when they don't fit, because I know Liudmila will fix them for me. I trust her with my expensive items as well as things I bought at bargains. Liudmila treats all the items as customers valuable belongings. Her work/craft is superb! She has a shop with two dressing rooms and a platform with a big mirror where she does the fitting. Her delivery time is very reasonable and so is her pricing. Reading a couple of negative comments, I do not understand. If you see Liudmila's shop, with the volume of clients' clothes on hangers, and always a client or two waiting for their turns for her service, you can tell the volume of her repeat customers. Some people expect the superb service, but for price of next to nothing and delivered within a day or two. Just because I bought something at bargain, doesn't mean that Liudmila should give me a bargain service price. Client should ask for Liudmila's price for the job before taking her time for the fitting, and then, trying to bargain the price. I will always support the small businesses in my neighborhood, especially when they are proficient, reasonable and caring! I would give Liudmila 10 stars if I could! read more

I was super happy to find somewhere to do alterations a block from my house! I have a bridesmaids dress that was too big for a wedding next month, we went and got everything pinned perfectly, making my dress look like a completely different dress (I was having second thoughts based on the original fit), this took maybe 10 minutes for her to do, and about 45 of us waiting while she stopped and helped other walk ins. I had found another dress and was still having second thoughts about the first one, especially with a price of $185 for alterations on top of the $200 I paid for it. I wanted to compare the two, but they are only open the hours that I work and with it being Easter weekend, I didn't have the option to go back over the weekend to re-try on the dress to see the fit with the pins- and waiting until the next week was cutting it too close. My mom stopped in and explained to her that I just wanted to try it on so I could compare and she charged my mom $20 AND removed the pins. I understand paying for her time, but removing the pins?? she clearly didn't listen to my mom and now has wasted MY time. I won't be back and took the dress elsewhere for all the same alterations for $60 TOTAL. I'm sure she does good work and looks like she's very good at what she does, but customer service is just as important and with the nasty taste in my mouth after this experience, 1 Star. Also, be prepared to have her tell you you need to lose weight like the poor woman who was in front of me that was visibly upset. read more

Through no one's fault but my own, I waited until 3 weeks before my best friend's wedding to have my bridesmaid dress altered - it needed to be hemmed and taken out. I called a couple places and they said they didn't have enough time, it's the busy season, etc. She offered to have it done in less than a week!
