I go take my dog here all the time. Thursdays they are closed! But there is more than enough space for you and your dog to enjoy an on leash walk. My dog is 40 pounds which is more than appropriate to be in the " small " dog park. But unfortunately there are many owners who bring in 60 pound dog or larger and they are younger dogs so they are a bit of a risk to injury my dog. Cant fault the park for disrespectful owners on large side or small side but just want to warn others. They usually have many tennis balls for dogs and multiple plastic pools for the dogs to enjoy. That being said please do not bring any females in heat. Keep an eye on appropriate dog play. Out side the park keep your dog on leash when leaving the park or entering give others space. And clean up after your dog if it makes a mess or poops. read more

This dog park really hit all the five stars for us. My review is based on mid morning attendance and I don't know what it's like on the weekends. clean public bathroom, plenty of parking, a huge large park and a huge small park for the dogs, good people, lots of balls and toys, and it's next to a huge walking park where you could take a nice walk or even play frisbee. Just be advised after a rainy day that it could be a little money but other than that it's awesome. Come summertime. We have been taking our Goldendoodle puppy here for awhile now and he really seems to enjoy it! Being a social dog, he loves to play, especially with other doodles, standard poodles and labs! And of course he loves to fetch all the tennis balls he finds lol! Our eldest will even climb into the little pool to cool off with the dogs after playing with them lol! I would HIGHLY recommend this great dog park to help burn off your fur child's energy! For me not only is it fun exercise, but it's very therapeutic playing with all the dogs and socializing with other dog parents! The park is very well maintained and a great spot to take your dog. There is always going to be "Karen's" or in this case an actual Woman named Karen who brings her 200lb Mastiff in the small dog area and then lectures others about being responsible. This is a run of the mill dog park nestled off Hazel Avenue in Fair Oaks. It's attached to Phoenix Park, which appears to be used mostly for kids soccer games. There are also public restrooms available. The dog park itself is a decent size, with separated areas for large, small, and shy/puppies. The major drawback, however, is that the entire dog park has very little shade with only a couple of small pergolas big enough to cover a single bench and few chairs throughout. I'm actually shocked that a community space in Fair Oaks has this few of trees. On a summer day this unfortunately made for a short, hot visit with very few dogs present. It's unlikely I'd go out of my way to bring my dog here again versus the nearby larger and shaded C-Bar-C dog park. If you do visit and you're not northbound on Hazel, do yourself a favor and turn on Sunset to enter the park and follow the signs that will wrap you around to the dog area. read more

In the large dog park it was spacious with plenty of room for the dogs to play and run. Once our new puppy was fully vaccinated, we took her here for her first dog park experience. We were VERY pleased ... and so was she!! We particularly were impressed with the other owners and dogs. All owners were very responsible and friendly. All dogs played well with our new Portuguese Water Dog. The dog park is fenced into 3 sections, identified on signs as "Large Dogs", "Small Dogs" and "Tiny, Mini or Elderly .... Dogs (something like that)". The Small Dog area had large dogs in it (50-80 lbs.) which concerned me at first. However, they were all very well behaved dogs. Another owner explained to me that the size of the dogs doesn't really matter, but it's the temperament of the dogs that should determine which area you put your dog in. I.e. More aggressive dogs, regardless of their size, should go into the "Large Dogs" area. I really like this distinction. My only suggestion is that the park post this in an easy-to-see and understand way by the current signs. We will see you dog owners and your precious pooches at the doggy park! read more

It's really nice here but incredibly busy in the mornings. If you have a shy pup, it would be best to wait until the late morning to early afternoon. Equal sized small and large dog parks, both very large. Kiddy pools at both dog parks. There are two much smaller areas with pools but I am not sure what those are for. Tables and chairs for people to sit. Water bowls for pups. The surrounding area is nice and large too. There is a hiking trail across the street, a jungle gym for the kids, a dirt bike area, two baseball fields, and a community garden. Nice scenery. People keep to themselves for the most part. If the dog park is too busy or your pup is shy, there are options to get the daily exercise in. The bathroom was surprisingly clean too. read more

I'm seeing similar reviews to what I'm about to write here. The people who use dog parks as a social gathering who think they can dictate to other dog owners and choose when they want to abide by the "rules" and when they don't while lecturing you for not following them. I took my dog to this park a week after she lost her sister. I didn't see any dogs in the large side, but saw large, medium and small dogs on the small dog side so I decided to take her in there for companionship. A woman's little dog ran up on her and she growled at her and this lady proceeds to verbally attack me saying my dog was over 25 pounds and should be on the large dog side. When I pointed out the 50+ pound border collie right next to us she proceeded to say well that dog didn't attack her dog. We proceeded to argue and I basically told her to eff off with her Karen bull****. We went to the large dog side and shortly after received a call from the memorial home that our other dogs remains were ready to be picked up so we didn't end up staying long but the entitlement at these parks are disgusting and I understand having someone there full time to monitor bad behavior isn't possible but it really effects the harmony and companionship these dog parks should provide for our dogs. What I like about this one...it has an area away from other dogs you can walk and play with your dog if your training them or if they have not interacted with other dogs before. Pros: The park itself and its surrounding area seem pretty well maintained. Most of the people seemed friendly. There is a large dog ,small dog, and even some separate individual play sized areas here. Cons: There is seating but its the plastic lawn chair type. There's hardly any shade so be prepared to potentially have the sun beat down on you and your dog during those hot days. I love this dog park. It's the only one we take our little Shiba Inu to. Lots of space for our doggies to run, and they have 3 separate areas: one for big dogs, one for small to medium dogs, and a smaller area for training or for the shy ones that might feel overwhelmed if thrown in the other areas too soon. We attend a meetup group here once a month. Lots of meetup groups meet here for specific breeds. (www.meetup.com) There's a wading pool on both sides of the park, and a hose to pour fresh water for your furry friend. Big buckets of tennis balls and containers of poop bags are on all sides of this park. Owners are very attentive to their dogs and don't totally ignore them once they step in the park. This helps a lot with recognizing a possible dog fight. A lot of regulars come here and they are very friendly. My dog loves this place and practically leaps out of the car whenever we come! The one big qualm is there's practically no shade from the hot sun. I advise that you take your pooch early morning or toward dusk during the hot Sacramento summer months. read more

Walking up the this park, I was a little discouraged. It's just a square. The dog park we usually go to has rolling hills and trees and a kiddie pool or two... But the second we let Indy loose, I changed my mind. The dogs here are all so much friendlier and active than usual at a dog park. They were constantly running. And the owners were actually involved! The people were more friendly. You can tell the regulars take pride in their park, it's not "just" a park. They have docents there! Went here in the late afternoon and the weather was great. Lots of friendly people and nice dogs. There are lots of tennis balls for the dogs and chairs for owners. Unfortunately, too many people with medium to big dogs insist on letting their dogs play with the little dogs because "they get lonely" in the play area for the big dogs. If these owners were a bit more aware of this and saw how they scare the little dogs, I'd give the park five stars. read more

My dog Argo adores this park, especially the private area for not so social dogs. I use to take him in to the anti-social part for a while to calm him down, he is a very over active dog, then take him over to the big dog park to play. The dog owners were so friendly, most of them anyway, and they were always watchful of their pets and pretty good about picking up after them too. What I also enjoyed about this dog park is that it is connected to a very large pretty park with a good sized walking trail that I would take my dog on once he was done playing. I have yet to find a dog park like it. read more

All around a good dog park. There is a large dog area, small dog area, and even a smaller spot for dogs that don't play well but still need a safe place to run. There is always fresh water, bags, tennis balls, and kiddie pools for the dogs to enjoy. After going at all times of the day every day, I've found that we've had the best experiences before 6ish. I am not sure why this is.. If I ever encounter a super pushy dog and/or an owner with a sheriff mentality, it is usually close to sunset time. Of note, here is an early morning group that has dogs of all sizes playing together in the small dog pen. Never had a problem with any of the dogs or people at that time. My guess is they use the small pen because it has more water stations and is usually less muddy. read more

I really like bringing my little Kora here for socializing and I can really appreciate the separation fences for big, small and aggressive dogs as my dog is small and often feels intimidated by the bigger more aggressive dogs. This is probably one of the better dog parks in the area, however they've been closed the last couple times I've driven by, hence the 3 star rating for now. What gives?? It would be nice if they gave a reason or an ETA for when the park will re-open and its a decent haul from my house to get to the park. I've never had any issues with dog fights or irresponsible owners. If anything like another reviewer said-people can tend more towards the judgmental side of things. I have a young dog that loves to get other dogs to chase him-which does sometimes involve him stealing a ball another dog may be playing with. I try to intervene but there was one particular person getting really annoyed about it. Sorry, but I thought you brought your dog out to a dog park to play and interact with other dogs? A park for dogs to run around, play fetch, let loose and kick it with other dogs. Loving this place! There are separate areas so that the Teacup Poodle doesn't get run over by the German Shepperd running around like a mad dog with no cruel intentions. So little dogs in one area and big dogs in another. There are pools you can fill with water so that on hot days your dog can just act nutty and get all wet. They have tennis balls galore and even doggy bags for you to pick up your dogs "personal belongings". It is very well maintained and the people that go there actually play with their dogs and keep a good eye on them. If your dog is not very friendly... there's an area for him too. Requirements: your dog has to have his rabies shot. Nobody has ever checked but as a courtesy to others and their loved ones please keep it safe. When I dog sit, I take the pooches here. Why? Because it's awesome. Note: USE SUNSET AND THE PARK ENTRANCE to get to the dog park NOT KRUITOF WAY. It's a private road and the residents pay for it, apparently, so kindly take the public streets! PSA out. There is a group of self-entitled large dog owners who monopolize the small dog section in the mornings- they intimidate small dog owners and refuse to move to the large dog section, citing they are "a group that comes all the time" and that entitles them to prevent other owners from enjoying the park. As there is always large waste in the small section it appears they do not clean up after their pets either. It is baffling because the large dog section is immediately adjacent and available. Many small dog owners have told me they now don't go to the park in the am, a problem with hot weather coming. There has been a recent incident in the small park where a dog got bitten. If it weren't for selfish and entitled owners, this would be the best dog park ever, and get a 5 star rating. read more

I'm with Mel L. on this one. I bring my shiba inu here for the monthly meetups, even though it's a bit of a drive from my house in West Sacramento. Relatively LARGE area as a whole, both small and large dog areas are sufficient for quite a number of dogs. Yes, there is a smaller enclosed area on the small dog side for shy/smaller dogs. For the past two months though, they've been doing maintenance, so both sizes have been on one side of the park. The small dog side has water faucets/hoses on opposite corners, and I've seen at least one on the big dog side. There is no shade, but there are some young trees that would provide some in a couple of years. Bag dispensers and receptacles are easily accessible. read more

My dog is in love with this place. There are fire hydrants and places to poop and pee everywhere! The second we drove down Kruitof Way, my dog became antsy with excitement! They have a big dog area, a small dog area, and also a little fenced in dog run for dogs that are new to being around other dogs or are injured and unable to play. This is my favorite dog park in the greater Sacramento area. I live about 25 minutes away in Midtown Sacramento but still make the trip out here somewhat frequently. The park is all grass and well maintained. The grass has gotten a little patchy now during the summer, but it's still in pretty good shape. There are separate areas for large and small dogs (and a third for the shy ones). I have a lab mix so I take him into the large dog area obviously. Almost all of the owners and dogs I have met in the large dog area are great. The owners are all friendly and do a good job of cleaning up after their dogs. Rarely have I seen any random land mines. The owners are also in good control of their dogs and patient with other dogs. All in all, it's fun for my dog, and I find it fun and relaxing too. The park could use a little more shade, but there are benches with an overhang that provide a little relief. Plus, little kiddie pools are set out for the dogs to jump in to help cool them off it it gets hot. read more

I took my two dogs here a few time over the course of a week, while my husband was re-habbing from back surgery. This is a great park. Well cared for lawns, balls, pools, fresh water, chairs and doggie bags. There are three separate areas which works out great. When the large dog area got to rough my LARGE, OLD lab, I ASKED the folks in the small dog area how they felt about him coming over there. It worked out great for everyone. I won't speak to the people/personality issues that others address because what you give is usually what you get and there's always a butthead or two around - hey just like dogs! What makes this park so enjoyable to come to, in contrast to some other dog parks I've been to, are the other dog owners. At this park, the owners actually keep watch of their dogs instead of dropping their dog off and then going back home, or just letting their dog run wild to terrorize other dogs and people while the dog's owner sits back and chats with someone else or talks on his or her cell phone. The park provides baggies to pick up after your pet, and there are two watering stations, one that has a baby pool. Tennis balls are usually scattered amongst the grass. The lack of shade is a problem for my black-furred dog, so in about 10 years when the trees grow up, I'm sure this place will be even better. Also, the downhill side of the park tends to get really muddy, so be prepared to give your dog a hosing if, like my dog, your dog likes to roll in mud. read more

This is the largest dog park I've been to with plenty of space for the dogs to run. The grass covers the area nicely, so it's not muddy. Because it's spacious, you can move to different areas within the park if the play gets out of control or if your dog needs a break. There's a small, large and shy dog area. I didn't see a lot of feces like I have at other dog parks and overall the park was well kept. During the weekday, it's best to go before 12 or after 3:30, otherwise not too many dogs. This dog park does not have trees for shade so, during the Summer months the best time to attend is early morning or 6:00p.m. until park closes. Huge healthy grass area for the dogs to run and play...chase balls or Frisbees. They have tennis balls at the park if you didn't bring one. Provide doggie poop bags. They have two main but separate areas...one for the big dogs and one for small/med dogs or puppies who will end up over at the big dog side one day. There is a separate small area at the entrance for dog owners who want to keep their dog separate from the main dog park for what ever reasons they might need this area. They provide dog pools and water basins and have a water hose right there so a person can dump the pool/water basins out to add fresh water any time. Chairs for the owners to sit down in. The parking is good and where you can see your car. The parking area is gravel and lined with some beautiful boulders! Public bathrooms available. The people who go to this park are well mannered, friendly, & make sure they pick up after their dog as well as make sure their dog is being well behaved. I have gotten to know some of the regulars which makes the warmth of this park glow as much as my "Dog's Smile" shows as we leave the park.
