Checked out Truitt Bark Park for the first time with our pup. The place was seemed clean and maintained, and had separate gated areas for small and large dogs -- which is always appreciated (especially by the big dog parents who know their pup doesn't realize he's 80 lbs). We didn't go in -- this was purely a socialization mission. Lobo stayed just outside the fence, observing the chaos like a wise old man watching neighborhood kids from the porch. And you know what? He crushed it. Calm, cool, and collected. Gold star. We don't plan on doing dog parks for play since he goes to daycare and thrives in a more structured setting, but if dog parks are your thing -- this one could be a winner. Clean, not overwhelming, and right next to the R Street Corridor, which means you can treat your pup to a full Midtown adventure after. Grab a walk, some sniffs, and maybe hit a patio if your dog's in a chill mood. Or do what Lobo did and just stand outside the fence like a refined gentleman, silently judging everyone inside. 10/10 outing. No paws were stepped on. No chaos ensued. We love to see it. read more

I love that this park exists, but as we've found more grassy park options we've visited here less and less. I love that it's in such a fun area of the city and that they have separate smalls and bigs areas. They also host different dog events throughout the year here. The dusty gravel here gets all over my dog's fur and he is picky about playing fetch when his ball starts to get gross. It also gets VERY hot when the weather is warmer as there isn't a lot of shade. Also the tracks are right next to the big dogs side and when it freaks my dog out. It is nice for a quick stop on a cooler day when you're visiting the local restaurants and, from my experience it is well kept. The dogs that like to play with one another vs. playing with balls seem to have a great time here. There's also seating for the humans. read more

A pawsitively nice doggy playground in Sacramento As a first timer to this dog park we found the surroundings clean in a spacious lot where our dog enjoyed the opportunity to really stretch her legs here. We have a small dog so she was able to run around without her leash inside the designated fenced small dog park area (small dogs up to 25 pounds). A separate play area is designated for larger dogs. I'm thankful that I've not seen any aggressive dog inside the park for the safety of all the dogs. The park is located in downtown Sacramento in the Midtown area property within the Brooks Truitt Park on 19th and Q Streets. It is near a light rail station but the noise didn't bother my dog at all when a train would pass by. This may be challenging for some dogs though. Today I was not in Sacramento and I drove my dog to 3 different dog parks trying to take her to play but they were all locked up and closed due to the anticipated rain over the next week. It made her very sad and made me miss being close to good dog parks. Truitt Bark Park is a good dog park in a central location. It has a small and large dog area, water, poo bags and clean seating. The play area is mostly cement walkway and dirt and although I would prefer grass, this works just fine. It would be great to have more shade and more parking but for the area, I think it's an awesome little park and I am super appreciative to have it here for all to use. read more

Good dog park. Not a whole lot of selection in Sacramento for dog parks and this one is pretty nice comparatively. It's never too crowded or chaotic. Some people bring their timid large dogs to the small dog side so if you're annoyed by that I would wait for a less busy day to come. Owners can't be forced to pick up poop or segregate their dogs or anything because there's no one that gets paid to enforce that. It's a publicly accessible lot. Just reading the other reviews those seem to be "issues". Those are complaints for dog parks in general so just avoid them altogether if you don't like random poop. There's often free poop bags here but again that's up to you to be a responsible owner anyway, as you would walking your dog in your neighborhood. And yes it is a dirt lot. It is not mowed lawn. Again, *free public dog park* for everyone. They have water fountains for humans and dogs, benches, coverings, and random toys throughout the yard which is more than most dog parks offer. Use caution around homeless in the area as it goes with midtown basically always. Street parking is pretty easy to find. read more

My favorite dog park to take my fur babies to. We go to the large dog park on the weekends. All of the dogs and owners that go to this park, at least during the time I go, are kind and considerate. You can tell they are all really dog people, and not just people that have dogs. It's nice to be around. My dogs are known by name, just as I know the dogs there (I'll admit, I know more of the dogs names than the owners) Everyone seems to know their dogs well enough to know playful vs aggressive, which is comforting as my Great Dane/husky mix can get a little mouthy, especially when he's playing. It's nice to know people aren't going to pull their dogs away when he's just trying to have fun. This is a great dog park and is in a great part of midtown. My dogs and I like to walk around the area after hitting up the park to look at the Victorian houses. There's also a wine bar across the street that is dog friendly which is fun! read more

I used to walk my American Eskimo to this park. The gates are secure so I can take his leash off and he can play with other dogs. There two separate sections of the park, one for big dogs and one for small dogs. Aggressive dogs must be kept on a leash at all times and you must pick-up after your dog poop. There are small plastic bags abailable gor free and there's a water bowl when your dog gets thirsty. The people here do a much better job of cleaning up after their dog mess than the folks at the Bark Park in Citrus Heights do. This dog park is all dirt. Which sucks. It can get very dusty. Also a lot of people do not clean up after their dog here which also sucks. It has the potential to be a great dog park but its not kept up well. It's really the only dog park in the central area of midtown so I would say that's the only reason it's ever busy! read more

It's A nice neighborhood dog park. With that said, I wish people would follow the the size limitation in the area for small dogs under 25 lbs. Some owners seem to think that because their dog is friendly it's ok. Well it's not. Larger dogs can and do, trample on smaller 10 pounders like mine and it can be scary. Cool dog park, went by earlier in an Uber and saw so many dogs (mini, small, and medium sized) and just had to come back to see. After a couple of hours only a few cute dogs had remained and you could see how excited they were to be there. So nice to have a close by park, but in the summer, without much shade, it can get hot for the humans. Also, being near a train, this park isn't the best for dogs sensitive to sounds. That being said, my dog has had some nice social time here. There's lots of room to run around, and I haven't seen it get too crowded. read more

I was really excited when I found out last year that a new dog park was coming to midtown, and I had high hopes for a fun and comfortable off leash play area for my pup. We visited Truitt Bark Park earlier today , and unfortunately it's not as exciting or enjoyable as we had hoped. Although the corner of Q and 19th street is now much easier on the eye, I feel like the developers focused and designed the park in the interest of the humans and not in the best interest of the canines. There are two separate area for large and small dogs and a nicely landscaped area with a wide walking path between the two. The walk area is a huge waste of space ! Both play areas are very small, especially for larger dogs. You can easily stand at one end of the park and toss a frisbee or ball and it would end up in the street! There's just not much room for dogs to really run free. They can merely walk and sniff. The developers could have easily made the off leash area bigger by eliminating some of the landscaping in between the two play areas. Besides the size of the play areas, I was very disappointed that there was no grass. Dogs love grass ! There was just a lot of brown dirt, gravel, and landscaping wood chips, with a few young trees. The dirt and gravel is hot, dusty, and harder on the paws ! We were there for less the 10 minutes and my black dog left a brown dog , covered in dust ! I can only imagine how dirty the park and all visitors will be once the rainy seasons comes along . I know people have concerns about water use and grass blah blah ...but there are low maintenance varieties of grass that can be a much better choice for the small area they have built.... and let's not forget all the watering the surrounding landscape will need! Anyway, it's a pleasant looking corner compared to the vacant lot it once was . It's walking distance to food and coffee and homes . It's next to the train tracks and Safeway. I saw more then the usual number of owners walking their pups. Best thing going for Truitt Bark Park is really just the location. The dog park is merely adequate. Woohoo a new dog park! It's an odd location smack in the middle of downtown but it's a nice sight amongst the office and residential buildings. The location can be worrisome if people don't enter the gates correctly and accidentally let out any dogs since the park is right off of the street. I am not a huge fan of the sand/decomposed granite and mulch that they decided to use for the landscaping. I'm not sure why they couldn't have gone with grass to add some color to the downtown streets. The sand and the mulch aren't great for the fluffier dogs. The mulch easily gets caught in fur especially for dogs who like to dig after taking care of their business. The size of the small dog park vs. the large dog park seemed almost identical. It's not a ton of space for dogs to run around and the sand almost seems like it makes it more difficult for them. There are some trees but I'm sure it'll look nicer when they finish adding the umbrellas. read more

This was such a fun time! I guess they just opened yesterday! What an amazing way to give your fur babies a beautiful location to play and frolic with their local fur friends! What was even better was all the friendly people who were there with their fur babies. That doesn't always happen. Some fur parents are kind of standoffish and not very social. That was not the case here. They have a nice water fountain for the dogs and their humans. Plenty of shaded areas provided by the trees just outside the park and in the center. What I really liked was the community, people seemed to know each other and it also seemed as though there was a pug and frenchie Meetup which was adorable. All the dogs were friendly and my dogs had an amazing time. Can't wait to bring them back next week on my day off! Just in case you were wondering they do have separate parks for the small dogs and the larger dogs. I also really enjoy the parking around the neighborhood. It wasn't hard to find and afterwards decided to walk around the neighborhood since it's well shaded with all the beautiful trees downtown has to offer. Highly recommend this location! read more

First let me start by saying: I don't have a dog. I am, however sick at the moment, and I always find going to parks/ nature and watching animals is a good way of making the heart a little happy. Usually, I go to land park and watch dogs running around and guess and duck swim and play, but these days I've been thinking about fostering a dog, and so I'm going to be going to dog parks and watch them play. Truitt dog park is a small little fence off area where dogs can run around and play with each other. It seems nice enough, and if you live in the neighborhood, it's probably a great convenience to have a dog park close by. But for me, if I do end up with a dog, I think I'd like somewhere slightly bigger, with some trees, ... I guess I just felt it was a bit too small, especially since when I visited there were a lot of dogs there and it seemed kinda cramped and didn't have so much a "free happy dog's place" feel to it, rather than dog jail with the owners inside to watch over them. Anyways, that was my one impression of this place, and I know I could be wrong. :) so check it out for yourself too! read more

There are some really divided review for Truitt Bark Park, and indeed, it's not the perfect mid-city dog park one would hope for. Nevertheless, it's a resource that otherwise wouldn't be there and a place so many downtown dog lovers use, so you have to give the place props for being there - imperfect or not. For the most part, dogs like it here. They congregate, socialize, pee, poop, run around and do dog stuff. I read some of the criticism with a grain of salt because it comes from protective dog owners who are a special breed themselves. But for the most part, it's a happy place with few issues beyond the owners who can't control their dogs in the first place. I do agree that it's small. Worse, it's extremely hot and unshaded in the summer months, which can be excruciating in downtown Sacramento. I suggest any dog owner throw that pup in the car during hotter days and take it down to a larger, more spacious park with much more shade. read more

The Bark park Located in dowtown sacramento right on Qst between 18th and 19th. There is some street parking that is free and good for 2 hours at a time. The park is right next to the light rail that went by both directions a few times during the hour we had visted on a friday morning. Plenty of noise and distractions that did not bother my dog at all. The park is new has some good features like the dog and people water fountains. They have some good pressure behind them so need to stick your tongue or the dogs tongue all over the spout. They have plenty of dog poop stations inside and outside the parks, and they are fully stocked with poop bags. So no excuse for not picking up your pets waste movements people!!! And that is how the big dog park side was. CLEAN, no waste left behind. Felt great after looking around 1st not to have to worry about slipping and sliding through crap. Ok so big dog park side. For the 25lbers and up. There is a row of bench seats and some chairs. Then there is a bunch of the orange cement blocks. Not sure if intended for people or dogs to play on or just mark up. There was only a few trees for shade. Not much at all like others have noted. Then the dirt or sand mix. There is plenty of it and it will get up in your shoes. Or you can stand in the bark mulch around the perimeter of the fence. No grass at all. This park was built during the water shortage, so im guessing they did a lot to preserve water cause even the outside of the park had some desert like plants that needs minimal watering. Good idea, but the sand in the park is massive and they tryed to make a hill like thing in the middle of the big side and im guessing from dogs doing their nascar runs and digging for gold they have ruined the integrity of the hill and let out the black netting that helped make it. Since there is a lot of dirt, their will be some sand storms coming when they run alot. Hopefully the rain will help that but not make it a mud pit either. It is downtown and not a ton of room for the big dogs to get a good run on, but they do get socialized, some outside air,(not good though during summer months when its 100°+ out) and to be able to move thier legs. Maybe by next year there could be some improvements to the ground layout. The little dog side for the 25lb and under. Clean, neat, no hill and no messes. Very nice. They dont do mich damage like the big dogs so it will probally last some time, and also no extra amounts of dirt either. The only kinda non safe thing i noticed was the fencing. All around the park it has NO top just the pokey tips of the fence. Except where they made the doors to enter. I went over and measured up on it. Its at my arm pits and for my wife would be her head. Now if you touch it with a little force you wouldn't wanna do that again. So becareful when next to it for your safety if you happen to fall on it(dog runs by bumps you, loose your footing etc) , or if you see some jumpy dogs. This will not be a good end situation. In the end great for the little dogs, soso for the big dogs but it gets them out and such. It wont be our goto spot, but if i have my dog and down in the area and he needs to get out, ill bring him back. Glad to have it built for the dogs to play. Just needs a little fix here and there and will be much better. read more

Truitt is rufffffly (sorry - couldn't resist) 4 blocks from my house, located on the corner of Q and 18th. Jameson and I have had nothing but good experiences here, on both the big and small pup sides. Everyone (and their humans) have been polite, and responsible. Being able to walk is a major plus... Parking park-side is limited to street parking, although I've noticed some utilize the Safeway lot. Also - I'm not a fan of the orange block seats (I've seen many close encounters with dog vs. block injury potential). The lack of shade is fairly typical, unless you're at a park with trees. I have a 5 year old pug who loves coming to this dog park! There isn't much shade for my little guy with black fur, so we come either early in the morning or right before sunset. Noticed a cool new dog park in town, so decided to bring my poodle on a hot Sunday afternoon. When we got there, there were a ton of larger dogs in the "Large dog" area and no dogs in the "small dog" area. Boo! When we got in the small dog area, I noticed there was no grass at all and was all dirt. This is disappointing. I was also disappointed that there were no shaded areas at all. This isn't good, as summer days in Sacramento get really hot. There is a water station, and a few benches for dog owners to sit on and a few blocks where dogs can jump/play on. Cleanliness: was pretty clean and well kept, but keep in mind, they just opened a week or two ago. Would come back when the weather starts getting a lot cooler. read more
