Just think how hard. It is to get the stars to align for this. A gorgeous art deco, petite, ceramic, art deco lamp. The seller had great reviews, , I paid $396.00 for it to ship from the Netherlands. No big deal I thought, my dad can easily rewire it and put a nice long cord on it. I was practically giggly when it arrived but but that quickly changed. It arrived broken and missing its head. My giggles quickly turned to tears. I messaged the seller. She felt terrible, my poor little lamp probably got manhandled in customs and lost the head. The seller felt terrible, she actually refunded all my money including shipping. That was a lovely gesture. I was determined to get the head restored. As I do with all projects I need done I ask Yelp. As always, Yelp did not let me down. As I recall, Jason at The Conservation Lab didn't reply to my quote request, I tracked him down. One art restorer quoted me $1000.00. Jason quoted me $275.00. I said yes immediately. I had actually poked around on his website and was really impressed with the quality of his work. Quite frankly I was shocked that an artist of his caliber was only charging me $275.00 for such a difficult job as recreating a ceramic head for my peacock lamp. But I'm grateful that someone like him is making art restoration accessible to people like me. I gifted him with a charcoal drawing I did. It took him about a month. This job was no small task. He sent me photos of the finished product. I was thrilled. It looked gorgeous. My dad picked it up to rewire it from EU wiring is USA wiring. Alphonse completed a sizable order of canvases for a high profile permanent display at our community organization, and they look SO GOOD! The portraits pop off the canvas in a way that makes the image feel really accessible in a different way than a framed picture behind glass. The compliments on the canvases are continuous. Alphonse completed the large order on a tight schedule and even delivered them to us. Having received a rather last-minute request from my bosses to find a printer in Portland who could print 5 canvases and have them ready and wrapped around frames within three days, I sent out a number of very rushed and garbled emails to a variety of printers that I found through Yelp. Alphonse was the first printer to respond to my challenge and although there was obstacle after obstacle thrown in our path he was never anything but calm, professional and incredibly accommodating. The quality of the prints was fabulous, and far exceeded our expectations considering that the price was incredibly reasonable. Also, the guy today took the time to make adjustments for me, my image was too low resolution (embarrassing, it should have been ready to print, and it was the wrong size too!). Automatic notifications go out when your order is ready for pickup. They were excellent in all ways, but one: Instead of shrinking some of the images to the size I requested and then print them, they printed them and then cut some of them down to size. This took a lot of the image of each piece of art away. This cost me $100.00 for something I can not use. Note: I absolutely abhor giving bad reviews. I wish they had called me to okay the cutting before they did it, but they didn't. I would rate how they treated me with five stars along with their effort for good communication.
