I have had nothing but problems with Photon Brothers. The salesperson, Kristion Tallent, fed me a bunch of lies regarding my solar system. Several things he said regarding an electrical panel upgrade ended up being untrue. The electrical panel upgrade was a big reason I went with Photon Brothers and it turns out they couldn't/wouldn't do it. At this point I would have switched to another company. Unfortunately, doing so would set me back at least a half year on my solar system install. I continued on with Photon Brothers only to have one disappointment after another. The latest issue is that I was told my install would take one day. They scheduled it and the installers came out. They didn't finish the job and I was told it would be finished the following week. They scheduled for the following week, and I took off work to be available for the electrician. The electrician never showed, and our installation remains incomplete. I was given no reason for him not showing and no apology. In fact, I have to continually reach out to the project manager to find any answers regarding my installation completion. Most of the time I am ignored or given generic responses that don't address my question at all. It is going on three weeks, and they still have not reached out to finish this up. Their inability to complete my project is the only thing keeping me from having the city inspect it and turn on the net metering. I have panels on my roof doing absolutely nothing during these sunny days. I was prompt with all the information they needed from me and have been paid in full. They have become way less communicative since receiving my money. I feel that once they were paid I became a non priority. Not a good feeling and this experience has really soured me on solar. Several of my friends and family have inquired into my solar journey and are strongly considering it themselves. I will not be recommending this company to any of them. read more

I live in Colorado and cannot recommend using Photon Brothers for your solar panel installation. While I believe they sell quality panels, the installation process was extremely disorganized and frustrating. The plan for arranging panels on our roof was clearly covering vents and too close to a skylight. After several tries at revisions, the co-owner assured me it would work. Turns out it didn't and the design team had to change the plan after all. They rewrote it but didn't tell anyone including the installers and the county. The installers arrived and couldn't implement the plan as written. The system failed county inspection and another in a series of delays ensued. I had to follow up on every single step of the installation process to get any action. Who has time for this? Once the system was approved by the county and the energy company, I sent the second payment. I later discovered 2 problems with the original installation but service requests go into a black hole and there is no response. No one answers the phone. read more

Based on my research, I only got 2 quotes from small to mid-size companies nearby. I chose Photon Brothers since they were (a) local (Broomfield, CO), (b) gave me a competitive price (c) use good materials of construction, and (d) had good customer reviews in general. Below I have outlined my experience with them during the project, with a short review for folks who only want to see the bottom-line, and a longer version with dates (in 2020) when different milestones were completed to show how quick/efficient they were in completing the project. Long Story Short: My system was installed in March 2020. It has been operating well for a year now and has produced the power (MWh) guaranteed in the agreement, in spite of the smoke due to all the fires in 2020. I highly recommend this company. They are excellent and their prices are very competitive. The project was completed in an amazingly short time. Their employees take great pride in their work, are very friendly, and take full ownership of projects from agreement-signing to project completion. I had a minor monitoring issue during the past year due to the unreliability of cellular service in my area but, with Matt Raichart's guidance, they swapped out the cell card for ZigBee, which is working better for me. Longer Story (Dates are for 2020): (1) Agreement Signing: I signed the Agreement with John E, who is a Co-Owner/Solar Consultant. My meeting with him was a low pressure experience and he was pleasant, knowledgeable and laid back. I had a lot of questions for him and he patiently answered all of them. I signed the contract with him on the same day, Jan 17, and paid them the advance. (2) Project Management and Team: I was fortunate to have Amanda assigned as my Project Manager. She has the right temperament for the job. She kept me in the loop and promptly answered all my questions patiently throughout the project. She is friendly, hardworking, dedicated, very responsive and professional. She sent me a welcome email within 4 days of signing the contract on Jan 21 and introduced the project team. She also sent me an information packet which outlined the different steps of the project and what to expect during each step, including scheduling, periodic project updates and check-ins. (3) Site Evaluation: Within a day of project manager assignment, on Jan 22, a company technician Rob stopped by to take measurements and collect information needed for project design and specifications necessary for permits. (4) Design and Permitting: Well within 2 weeks, Photon Brothers completed a draft design plan and submitted it for my review on Feb 10. The design was fine and I only had minor comments, which I provided to them on the same day. Since my neighbor had some concerns about snow-dumping in their yard which was adjacent to my roof, Photon Brothers even included snow guards with my solar panels at no additional cost! I was very impressed with their responsiveness. They addressed all my comments and submitted the final plans to me within a couple of days on Feb 12, which I approved. On the same day, they invoiced me for the Design Approval stage, which I paid immediately. They then applied for the necessary permits with my city, which the city approved on March 4. (5) System Installation: Within a week of permit approval, the PV system was installed in just one day on Mar 10 by installers Dan and Adam, with Derrick doing the electrical work. The installers were very courteous, friendly, and efficient, and did a great job on the installation. They also cleaned up well after the work. I had several questions for them during the installation, which they answered patiently, in spite of being busy. Final inspection: Photon Brothers scheduled the final inspection with the city promptly and the inspection took place within a couple of days of installation on Mar 12. Nick from Photon Brothers was present during the inspection and the system passed inspection with flying colors. I was then invoiced for the Construction Complete stage of the project on Mar 13, which I promptly paid the same day. (6) Utility Final Visit, Turning on System: I then received 3 contract documents for my signature from Xcel Energy within a day of city inspection on Mar 13. I E-Signed the 3 documents promptly within the same day and Photon Brothers signed the documents on Mar 16. Xcel signed the documents on Mar 18 and ordered the meters on Mar 20. Xcel installed the production and net meters on Mar 25. Photon Brothers then walked me through powering the system and helped me set up the monitoring platform the same day. From agreement-signing to project closeout, it only took a total of about 9 weeks for project completion! Excluding the 3 weeks it took to receive city permit approval, Proton Brothers completed their portion of the project at blazing speed, in about 6 weeks! Based on my above experience they are an outstanding company and I highly recommend them for PV System installation work. read more

My wife and I spent a lot of time researching solar energy companies and are very happy we went with Photon Brothers. After getting several quotes and reading through a ton of reviews we went with Photon Brothers because they have a stellar reputation, great price per kW installed, and they are a local small business. They installed panels for us in March and we have had zero problems with our system. The panels look great and modern, and the monitoring app is really easy to use.   We recently wanted to reconfigure our system a little to have our monitoring data be transmitted through LAN instead of cell data almost 6 months after our installation was completed and they were very responsive and extremely helpful getting this done for us. Specifically, it was Nate, a Service Manager, who coordinated the logistics and did a great job ensuring we were happy with the service, and Mike, the technician that came to our home showed up on time, was very nice, polite and professional and went above and beyond making the wiring on the outside of the house he had to work with look nice and tidy.   I also have to mention Amanda who was great to work with throughout the project and our main point of contact, and John Johnson who we worked with early on during the proposal phase who was very knowledgeable, also great to work with, and helped us spec out the best solar system for our needs.   All in all, Photon Brothers is a great company all around that has exceeded our expectations at all stages of getting our solar installed and we always recommend them whenever we hear someone talking about getting solar. read more

I had a set of 15 solar panels that I own that were installed on a house that we just moved from. I contacted Photon brothers to provide a quote to install the panels that I already had using the the equipment for them that I had and the equipment is 1 year old (so not out of date or corroded or anything). They provided me quote for full cost of replacing all equipment on the panels because it was inconvenient to use what I already had. They would not respond to me in a timely fashion I had to call them every time I wanted anything out of them. Very poor customer service and a lack of willingness to help me out because it is just not convenient is just plain inexperience and laziness. read more

Photon Brothers installed 16 panels on our roof last fall, and we are happy with our purchase. We did quite a bit of research on which panels and which company to go with. We narrowed to two companies and ultimately went with Photon Brothers because of the types of panels they install and the customer service experience we had with Sam. We are happy we did. Overall, the team was professional, responsive, and the quality of the system has been solid. We had a couple minor communication issues but they addressed everything quickly and professionally, and we're happy with the service we've received -- both from a product quality and customer service standpoint. I hate to sounds like a broken record with other reviewers, but I got to witness this first hand. I was able to quickly rule out SolarCity as any kind of serious competition. They were going to put more solar panels on my roof than Photon, and for only a 77% net system. Photon was able to get me a 100% net system with less panels. I also pitted them against Nameste who was my second choice. Nameste wasn't able to compete on the price (almost $10k more than Photon for the same panels and inverters). Both companies had great sales staff that were extremely informative and low pressure. This is in direct contrast to SolarCity that was high pressure and knew hardly nothing about the technology or systems. The installation went OK. The initial design of the system didn't work because it wasn't accurately measured, and they had to move some panels around. There was also a mixup with the building inspector, but we eventually got that ironed out. Last but not least, I ended up having to start paying off the loan before Xcel could get the new meters installed. This wasn't necessarily a reflection on Photon since it was the Xcel pipeline that was to blame. I did run into a rough patch where I couldn't get an email response from my project manager for two weeks. I finally gave up emailing and called in and talked to someone else who was able to help me. I'm not sure what happened there as the project manager had been very responsive up to that point. All-in-all I'm very happy with the system and the service with Photon has been pretty good. read more

An excellent experience all the way through, all people we dealt with were friendly, professional and helpful. They handled all the paperwork, updated us on every step and checked in on a weekly basis until Xcel finally installed the meters. We got a couple of quotes and decided to go with Photon Brothers because they provide the highest efficient cells (by SunPower) on the market with micro converters and 25 years warranty on the panel and converters! And their 5-star rating added confidence, and they're sure deserve those 5 stars. If you go solar, go with the best! :-) The only drawback in the whole process was Xcel Energy who obviously drag the meter installation out as much as possible. It took 6 weeks after the final expection to have the meters installed, and that in June and July when there is the most sun shine! We live in Golden, Colorado. read more

By far the easiest and best experience you will have with any home improvement project. I completed my solar project with these guys in February/ March of 2017 and everything from the planning to the final inspection was easy and the panels themselves are top notch. Jim Payne is the individual I worked most closely with. He is courteous and prompt. The customer service is on another level. As soon as I ended the phone call after a quick conversation with Jim the tax documents I needed were in my inbox. My monthly loan payment is the same as my average electric bill, only that loan is done in 12 years and won't increase each year. They took care of everything from permits to setting up with xcel. Very pleased with our Tesla battery installation. It has been running great and providing security during a couple of power interruptions. Myles and crew did a great job of designing and installing the system. Layla has been amazing in dealing with SoCal Edison, providing paperwork and data and dealing with SGIP and Edison and all the requirements for battery rebate. Lynsi Anderson has been fantastic in keeping the process running smoothly especially during some communication issues with the company. She got immediate responses form individuals we needed to contact and took care of making sure billing was in tune with project progress. I got a couple quotes and did a lot of research before choosing Photon Brothers and SunPower panels. They cost a little more. But the system had 22% efficient panels, the best out there, and we're getting more for it. Our house is completely electric, no gas, and so in the winter we used to have huge bills. In March we've made 90% of our power, on our little town home roof with 18 panels. I can't wait to see the electric bill! Service was great. We had a complicated install. The HOA board wanted details, and more fasteners since we live in windy Shanahan Ridge. No problem. The Boulder inspector wanted the panels grounded to the hardest spot in the whole house to get to, in our laundry room. One of the Photon Bros. owners spent 8 hours at our house making it happen, and doing exactly what they said they would--getting our system complete by Christmas. (Love that 30% tax CREDIT!) And the install itself was on a cold, windy day. Salesmen are no-pressure; Engineers are smart and efficient; and the installers are hard-working people who do it right. The whole company is responsive--they even painted the conduit on the outside to match our siding. Great people to work with. read more

We interviewed 5 different companies before Sun Power and by far they were the most knowledgeable about solar panels. They were fast and extremely professional and cleaned up after themselves each day. We since have called them about different things - questions mostly- and they been awesome. I am going to echo what other reviewers have said - these guys are the best, from start to finish. I compared multiple companies, their products, their reviews, and their customer service. Here is what I found: Product: 1.) Photon Brothers install SunPower panels. They're the most efficient on the market - 21% efficiency compared to most of their competitors having 16-19% efficiency, which means fewer panels need to be installed, leaving more space on your roof for aesthetics or the installation of more panels later (if you get an electric car, for example). 2.) The most current technology on the market. Would you buy a computer that is five years old? The tech is changing quickly. 3.) Each panel has a micro-inverter, instead of one inverter for the whole string. If one panel on a SunPower string is underperforming (shade, for example), it won't reduce the power output of the whole string. With a central inverter, it will. 4.) They're the only guys that I met that warranty their products for 25 years - including all parts and labor if they have to make a call to repair it. 5.) They have a free online monitoring system for you to determine your system's performance. The engineer in me would like more detail, but it tracks it in near-real time and compiles data hourly, and that is really as much fidelity as anyone really needs. Cost: I found these guys to be very competitive with other companies in most regards. The only downside is if you're looking for a program to finance the panels for 20 years, you won't get that here. We elected to use their only financing option - one year, same as cash. As a result, we have a little time to save up for the payment and can wait to pay for it all once we get the tax credit back on our returns. On a pure economics decision, it came out to be about a 4% return on investment, once I factored in historical electrical price increases, depreciation of the panels, home appreciation, Renewable Energy Credits, system output decreases, net metering, etc. If you can afford the up-front cost, it's worth it. Service: Top notch. It started with their anti-salesman, John, coming to our house and making a presentation. I call him the anti-salesman because he didn't push a thing and let the product specs do the talking. In comparison to other companies, it was refreshing. It took about 2.5 months for them to schedule the install with their backlog. The install was scheduled a little last-minute, but that was the only poor experience we had and it was worth it to have it done sooner than originally planned. The install team was very gracious and listened to all of my concerns. They took the time to do things right and when I found minor issues I wanted corrected, they uncomplainingly fixed them with a smile. Detail oriented in taking care of this old house. Great experience. Highly recommend them over their competition, who all showed either incompetence technically, pushy sales with poor explanations, non-competitive pricing, or some combination thereof. Add to that the superior tech of Photon Brothers' product, and it's a no-brainer. read more

From initial contact to generating power, the process has taken roughly 4 months, which is to be expected with major contractor work that requires permitting, utility oversight, HOA approval, and scheduling. Throughout the process, I had a project manager who I could contact with any questions or concerns I had. A coworker went through a nightmare with his Homeowners Association when he installed panels without their written approval (his installer said CO law prevents them from blocking a solar install, but they weren't fully correct). My PM gave me a packet with all plans, what the panels would look like, where they would be on the roof, and other information so that I could submit it to my HOA early for their approval. After permits, HOA approvals, and utility approvals were obtained, I was contacted to set up an install date. They were flexible and gave me options which was important with my workload. The install took two days, and the team that came out was very personable and friendly (even to my dog!), and I have nothing but nice things to say about them. Inspection went well, and they hooked up the monitoring solution that allows me to log into a dashboard from anywhere on the Internet and see my current and trend of power production. We're turning the switch tomorrow after the utility installs their meter! This is a great company that I highly recommend. More of a personal touch than the other companies I got quotes from. read more

The thing that sold us on Photon Brothers in the first place was that they went into detail about why their panels were better and more efficient than others on the market - we are technical people and appreciate specifics over vague generalities. Add to that the fact that their guarantees and price were better than the competition, and we were sold. They promised a positive installation experience, and they followed up on that. The install itself occurred on one day, with other aspects of the project being completed over the next 2 weeks (painting conduit, inspections, monitor hookup, etc.). All rebates and paperwork were handled by them. I would actually make this rating about a 4.6, due to a cleanup issue, but they took care of it. This is a great company for your solar needs! We started out with some other companies who did not follow through and found PB on yelp. We have been very happy with their services and highly recommend them to customers seeking to go solar. We especially like the quality of their panels. When we signed the contract they were using high quality Chinese panels, but changed to a German maker by the time it came to do our installation. We appreciate how they adapt to the rapidly changing solar industry and we also appreciated the friendly, hard-working and efficient staff they sent out to do the installation. Another factor that helped us in our decision was the guards they put up around the panels, which are keeping our aggressive and numerous squirrels and other critters from burrowing underneath. Installation started at the beginning of the covid problem, and the staff handled the uncertainty well, (respecting social distancing even though the installers were all in their twenties.) This company made a great hire with Mark Mueller, who took over our project before installation began. He provided the personal, detailed follow through that had been somewhat missing in the younger staff, who mainly preferred email communications. Mark spent quite a bit on time on the phone going over the installation process, carefully addressing all of our concerns and working with us on advancing the project in the uncertain environment the virus created. We feel the company has done a great job and are really happy knowing that at least part of our energy is CLEAN. We hope to get a tesla power wall as finances permit in the future. read more

Recently I noticed some solar panel installation going onto a friends house. I asked a few questions and found out about the city rebate of $1500 and the Photon Brothers rebate of $1500 and the 30% federal tax credit and decided to check it out. Kris from Photon Brothers made everything smooth and easy. The only complication was that I needed to replace my 23 year old roof before the solar installation, but after some timing issues with that, they were full speed ahead. Start to finish of process was around 2 months and now my panels are producing power. The solar loan process was simple and all online with great low interest rates. Now I will take the money that I would have used to pay for electric baseboard heat and apply it to my solar panel payment and one day will have no electric bill. And have no federal tax bill for the next several years. read more

I agree with the other reviews here. Everything about our experience with Photon Brothers was 5-star, from start to finish. After placing my initial phone call, John came out to our home 2 days later (in a snow storm.) He had prepared a detailed project and quote for us ahead of time. He stayed 2-3 hours and answered all of our questions. By the end of the meeting we were signing up for solar. After researching other companies/products ahead of time we felt very comfortable with Photon Brothers and SunPower. From there was just a waiting game, especially with the lengthy approval process in Adams County. During this time I had a few random questions for John in which he was quick to reply back. Most contact during this time comes from a project manager who is also quick to reply back. The only thing I can criticize is the lack of communication during this time, and maybe that is just me being needy. It is a big commitment and would have liked a few more updates even if all they said was that there was no update and things were on track. My project did get pushed back by 2 weeks and I had a very short notice of this. This was due to production issues I was told. Then came the installation phase; Brandon was the Installation Manager on my project, and I can't say enough great things about Brandon, his team, and the work they do. I have OCD cleanliness issues, and when I would get home each day I couldn't even tell that anyone had been in & around my house. I am still impressed with the condition they left my home and how clean and neat everything was installed. I inspected the wires that needed to be installed and everything was very neatly tucked away and just perfect. Brandon had to move a portion of a large desk in my office to install a wire, and I couldn't even tell he had moved it, he put it back exactly where it was before. I didn't know this, but when he moved it one of the frames on the attached bookshelf fell and the glass broke. Brandon came back the next day with a very nice new frame for me (even better than the one I had before.) I told him he didn't have to do that, but that's just the type of person Brandon is. After install and inspection he explained the system to me and helped me log online to show me how to monitor. I can't rave enough about our experience with Photon Brothers and would recommend them to anyone considering solar! read more

I work in the renewable energy industry and chose Photon Brothers because of their positive yelp reviews, a good initial impression after our first call, the products they sell (SunPower modules - the best quality, highest efficiency PV panels on the market), and price (I received quotes from several other companies - they weren't the lowest, but far from the highest). Sales staff are very low pressure - their work and products speak for themselves. The design and installation process had some ups and downs as with any contractor, but SunPower did a good job of resolving issues as they came up. The quality of the final installation was excellent. There are a lot of crappy solar contractors and most homeowners don't know what they don't know - I do know what I'm looking at, and the work was top notch. Overall, I'm very happy. You won't go wrong with these guys. read more

Like all the others have said, these guys were incredible. The quote was easy, low pressure sales, and since we paid cash the price was below the competition with the best panels out there. I got quotes from 5 companies total (Namaste - LG & SunPwr panels, SunRun - Canadian Solar Panels, EcoMark - Canadian, Solar City, & Solar USA in order of most to least favorites), and no one came close to the efficiency and price point, and they were also the only ones who didn't want to put an inverter on the side of my house. The installers felt like friends after spending a few days at our house, the project manager and engineers were great and quick to respond to my emails, and the person who came out to set up the monitoring - all were top notch. Now we're just waiting for xcel to install our meter, and we'll be all set! HIGHLY recommend. read more

We moved to CO in 2015, from CA, where we had previously had a photovoltaic solar installation on our single-family house. Our home here is a townhouse, in an HOA governed community. We were reluctant to seek approval of a rooftop system, as the roof is metal, and there is no attic. One of the HOA Board members did have a photovoltaic system installed, on their flat garage roof, so we checked out the installer. Photon Brothers solved the installation by putting down trays under each panel (22 in all, for the 7.8 kW system. On each tray is a concrete pad, about like a garden walk pad. The panel is then attached to that, with an engineered-design wind resistance of up to 175 mph. This way, there is no penetration of the roof surface, keeping the HOA happy. Having been through the process once, we knew generally what to expect, but were blown away with how quick the installation went. All the panels were up and in place after a morning's work. There was still the electrical wiring to be done, but the project was finished within three days. We were absolutely amazed at the professionalism, the quality of work, the dependability of all representatives of the company. Kris Tallent was our salesman and advisor, he set up a great system, fully explained every detail and was always available. Richard Szymanski was our lead field worker, he solved more issues with the city building inspector than I thought was possible, and was an outstanding electrician. We had added an upgrade to the main electrical panel as part of the job, since we had the original 40-year old panel. Richard did a craftsman's job on the installation, and we could not have done better. And our primary main office contact, Itzia Romero, was always available, always had the answer, and always responded immediately. I felt like royalty working with this company.
