This review is long over due! I just moved back to town after graduating from nursing school, and I'm back in my condo ready to rent it for the fall. When I thought about updating my locks to smartlocks, my first and ONLY thought was Curtis Key. They've installed building and gate locks for our building association, and my personal door locks for years, including 100-year-old skeleton key locks. I don't know what took me so long to write this review, but you won't be disappointed in the work, the product or the price. I have Airbnb and long term renters moving in and out year after year and these locks have seen a lot of traffic. They work as new as the day they were installed. read more

Our initial experience with this company was quite good; hence, when we needed two additional knob locks installed, we contacted Curtis Key again. The tech sent to complete the job was horrendous! One lock didn't even latch, and he damaged the other door. When we called to discuss the matter, the tech was incredibly rude and consistently interrupted me while I was talking. I locked my keys in my car, and they sat on the seat staring at me, taunting me. Called Curtis, and he quoted me $75 to come out and open it up. Said it'd be about 20 minutes to get his guy to me. His guy arrived within 20 minutes. He had to work several ways to get in, but was able to do it. Was friendly and professional. Charged me $75 exactly as quoted, which strikes me as a pretty fair price. I'd use them again. read more

We have engaged Curtis Key & Lock Service for over 15 years in some capacity or another - either emergency change of locks, making keys, installing hardware and securing our premises. They always send competent and personable personnel who go about their business and provide sound advice when asked. We recently had a new lock system installed on our front door that was purchased at a "big box" home improvement store. One of their guys arrived, advised that another part was needed, but indicated that it required a special order (the part was not offered at the home improvement store). When the part finally arrived after a week, they returned and installed it without incident and kept the related charges within reason. Subsequently, we decided to change the type of lock but with the same metal finish. They sent out a guy who installed it in a matter of minutes, all while explaining why another hardware item that we considered installing was not necessary. All assigned personnel arrived on time and even called to confirm location and time - and usually with same day service. I can't imagine taking my business elsewhere. read more

This is both a negative and positive report. Our family have used Curtis for many many years and they have indeed been a staple in the community. One particular day after being serviced I felt as if I was a "bother to them" some how. Mind you I am a bubbly oftentimes low maintenance customer (except when I am really peeved). For whatever reason the "energy" was so negative that particular day that I vowed never to come back. Here is the other side... I forgot about my vow never to come back and ran to Curtis after needing approximately a dozen keys. I thought of them because I needed the keys made properly and I trusted them to do it. I was very cautious and observant once I arrived -- just in case the mood was crappy again. Ed (I think he is the dad) serviced me on that day and he was absolutely wonderful and quite helpful. Afterwards I confessed to Ed that I was angry at them the last time I was in the shop and explained to him the negative energy overall exhibited that day. He replied that I probably came after they had a rough day with numerous clients who "just didn't get it". I laughed because as an attorney I often times want to shake some of the people I work with who sometimes "just don't get it". We all work in a service industry in one way or another and for him to actually hear what I was saying and take the time to chat with me further made me feel good. Like a "good customer" I will remain with Curtis and feel comfortable enough to fuss at Ed again when I feel that negative "energy" -- if it arises again. Seriously, I appreciate Ed just listening and seeming interested in my concern. Now that is true customer service!!! read more

Two security locks in the house. Frozen by decades of no use and no key. Prompt arrival and forty five minutes later Both locks were removed and replaced with solid security bolts and a pair of keys each. Not having solved this years ago put many in danger and was, otherwise, a waste. Their prices were unexpectedly low. Don't bother yourself or waste time by looking further. Was really pleased with our experience with Curtis Key & Lock. The team installed our locks on our apartment building in our initial rehab. A few months later we had an issue with one of the door handles coming off and called Curtis Key & Lock. Jerry came right out to take a look and fixed multiple problems, even leaving the building to go repair a part and right back to the building to install. Great place! The trunk latch on my car broke, and the guy here fixed it for me, no problem. Very friendly and helpful.

They might be okay in an emergency situation but were unable to give a quote by phone. I just needed to have my locks rekeyed. There is nothing wrong with the locks, pretty standard door locks with deadbolt. But they requested my full address to come out to get a quote, which, I'm not sure if that was for a fee. (One said $19 service fee, one said $25). Both people I spoke to were heavily accented & hard to understand on the phone. I didn't really feel comfortable giving my full address to someone to have them come out. Additionally, the phone number listed for the business is a google number (708#). I explained that I am being reimbursed for the rekeying of my locks and I needed an accurate quote I would be able to pass on to my landlord. They were unable to do this but I did find 3 other Yelp reviewed places that were able to via phone. read more

There a life saver. Lost the keys in the trunk of the car and we had the valet key and they made a key and got the keys out all for under $4.00. I buy all my locks for the house because they will key them to match the key I already have. read more

I had called and asked about getting another key made for my car and explained that it had the alarm system on it, and asked if they can put the alarm system on the key and the man she yes, but when I received the key it was not on there, and also programming the key under the steering wheel where to program the key was not closed back and the man that was assisting was very rude and unprofessional for a business that has been in business for over fifty years to treat a customer that way and certain customer treat differently from other, and did not fulfilled the what was said when I called, and when I try to come to bring this to their attention bars are across the front door while business is suppose to be open and it does not matter how long you been in business customers should not be treated with rudeness and I hope this review will help that customers should be treated with respect and not have to be treated any other kind of way, Treat others they way you want to be treated. read more
