I stopped in here last week on a whim. The restaurant was empty as it was mid day, so I was able to be seated right away. The lady who served me was very kind and attentive. She kept checking in, asking if I was ok, and filling my water. I ordered the barbecue chicken with ginger rice. I thought the overall dish and presentation was pretty good. I really enjoyed the barbecue chicken, but I wish the rice had a bit more soy sauce or teriyaki. We walked in on a cold windy day, desperate for hot soup. We settled on the Tom Yum soup and the Tom Kha Kai soup and also ordered a lunch special of spicy pad Thai. First, the soups were a generous portion which was a pleasant surprise. The taste was out-of-this-world good. Every sip was jam-packed with flavor and exactly what we were looking for. Made a winter Boston day much better! The spicy pad Thai arrived very quickly along with two spring rolls, house salad, and tofu soup. The tofu soup was steaming hot and mild in flavor as expected. The house salad had a light and refreshing dressing and was fresh. The spring rolls were crunchy and the dipping sauce was sweet and spicy. We requested the spicy pad Thai be mild and it was, we enjoyed the taste and the ample veggies. Another point to note is their lunch special is also available on Saturday which is not the case with most restaurants who do specials only on weekdays. Apart from food, the ambiance was quiet and the decor was tasteful. The service was excellent! We were looked after from the minute we walked in and everything arrived quickly and piping hot. Went with their takeout - so good! Their Crab Rangoon is excellent, and comes with a more liquidity Mae Ploy sauce. Their Crispy Rolls are good, but could be more flaky. I had the Hot and Crazy Noodles - sooo good with great Udon noodles. The beans and peppers were cooked perfectly, no limp veggies here, really good peppery sauce. Solid Thai food here. Their shrimp himapan is flavorful and packed with veggies. It's listed as a 'honey lemon' sauce, but good to know for the spice-averse that it's not 1000% mild. I found it delicious, but just be aware that the 'no spice' level just means no extra spice over the small amount of heat that already exists (I say this as a warning for those of us who have family members who think ketchup is spicy). The husband got curry noodles with duck, which he enjoyed. Interestingly, they offer a sweet soy dipping sauce with their tofu triangles instead of what I usually see of a sweet and sour topped with crushed peanuts- so that's new. The Tom Yum soup was weak; it consisted of a broth too sweet for him to even finish, with a few pieces of mushroom, some chicken. He ordered pork with sticky rice which arrived looking and tasting like it had been reheated in the microwaved a half dozen times over, and the sticky rice was inedible. Plastic. We needed to pry it apart into bite size pieces and even then could barely consume it. The veggie dumplings were mostly shell, with hardly anything inside. Half the dinner ended up in the garbage. I came her for lunch w a friend and they had a great lunch special which included salad a sweet vinagrette like dressing and miso soup, crispy vegetable spring rolls and entree selection. My friend had a papaya salad which can made spicy to your liking upon request. They can also had a 4 way condiment container w extra crushed peanuts pepper flakes, jalepenos, and chili sauce. I should have known this was going to be rough when our place settings only had fork/knife, no chopsticks, and there were barely any Thai words on the menu. Ominous start. The place's menu and flavor has definitely been Americanized. I couldn't tell what anything was on the menu because there were no Thai names besides Pad Thai. In terms of flavor, everything was ridiculously sweet and muted. Salad - iceberg lettuce and carrots in a overly sweet "dressing" that looked like water. Soup - also sweet with a hint of seaweed and maybe miso flavor. (Hard to tell). My "Spicy" Chicken glass noodle dish was not spicy at all. It didn't have much flavor besides a light sweetness. I ended up mixing in about 2 tablespoons of sambal (hot peppers) to get any flavor. And how does an Asian place NOT have sriracha sauce or chili oil or even know what sambal is?? I had to ask for "hot sauce" to get sambal. Waitress was overly confused. We all ordered lunch specials, which should have come with soup and salad, but not everyone got both. After our table tasted each other's soup and salad, we were fine about not getting both. Bottom line: If you want watered down, Americanized, overly sweet interpretations of Thai food, come here. An absolute hidden gem! My wife and I have probably tried a dozen Thai restaurants over the years and this is most definitely at the top of our list. Every dish comes out piping hot with the freshest ingredients. The best Tom yum soup and pad Thai I have ever had. Their crispy spring rolls are to die for. The beef massaman, and pineapple curry chicken are both outstanding. My wife loves their Thai iced coffee. It is a small unassuming restaurant but the chef is wonderful and always makes sure everything is cooked to perfection. Do not hesitate to eat here, you will be ecstatic you did!
