Solid Asian food in a warm setting with very friendly staff. The inside of this restaurant in very very pretty. We came in on a week night on a whim. Walking in there's a bar and a really pretty dining area and an indoor chiminea! It seemed really empty until the waiter brought us around the corner and there was a surprise whole other side the restaurant - which was also quite nice. I got the Chicken in the garden and the husband got the green curry. We both liked the taste of our food very much. The other reviews all mention smaller portions and they aren't wrong. Hello, I tried to email you from your website, but your email app doesn't work. We've been customers for many years and have enjoyed the food from Siam Lotus over the years. However, yesterday I bought a take-out order of Country-style Chicken, Siam Rolls, white rice and brown rice. The food was awful this time. I know you've changed ownership a year or two ago, but up until now the food has been generally the same as always. Maybe you've just changed your chef, or recipe? The Country-style Chicken was not spicy, no flavor, no chile pepper, too soupy, vegetables were not cut up, and it was too much like a stew. The brown rice had no flavor, and dry clumpy consistency. The cost is pricey for what you're really getting. I also have found inconsistencies between take out and dine in. The takeout portions and quality just doesn't seem to match the experience when eating in the restaurant. When we ordered take out, it was just okay both times, but when we ate in the restaurant (in between the first and second take out) it was really good. We have been enjoying Siam Lotus for well over 25 years now. From back when it was at the golf course. After the new management took over a few years ago the quality has gone downhill. The portions are smaller and just doesn't taste the same. It used to be very consistent in flavors. I'd give it 4.5 if I could. I usually like to visit a place a few times before I sign off on a five. There is a Holiday Inn Express very close by and this was the only restaurant that didn't involve driving very far. Besides, I like Thai food very much. It was Sunday around 7pm when I arrived, only a few others were there, and they were seated off next to a wall. I was asked if sitting at the bar was "ok" and since no one was there - sure why not! The place is clean, bright, prompt, and polite. The staff greeted me as I sat down. The menu was manageable without being not hard to decide what to get. I have always been a Tom Yum (soup) fan so that was easy. I also ordered the Homestyle Veggies and added in some chicken. Both were excellent. I wanted to drain each bowel but my mother raised me not to make a scene. The staff checked in on me and quickly retreated when not needed. Another group of people came in and I also notice there was a steady stream of people pick up their food (the locals like this place!). The don't serve hard liquor but do have wine and beer. They take AMX as well. They were very appreciative I stopped in thanked me several times. When/if I am in the area, I will be back. read more

We hadn't been there since the pandemic (in fact we thought they had closed permanently) so last night we excitedly went back. Sadly the quality wasn't near what it used to be. I was in the area during my travels and I gave this place a try. Now, I eat food from a Thai food restaurant probably once a month, so I'm not an aficionado on the subject, but I'm no novice either. My favorite dish in particular is Pad Thai and the one I received from this restaurant was just plain bad. It was basically just noodles (almost no sauce) with peanuts sprinkled on top. No lime. No nothing. This is such a classic and popular dish that it's just so surprising that a Thai restaurant could do it so poorly and that's what prompted this review. Good food, interesting ambience. I came here with my cousin last weekend for dinner on a Saturday. The food was delicious, I ordered the savory noodles and Siam rolls and my cousin ordered the steamed mussels and Siamese fried rice. Everything was seasoned to perfection. The waitress was very friendly and patient with us as we took a while to figure out what we wanted to order. As far as the ambience is concerned, I found the restaurant to be quite dim and it definitely gave off an intimate feel. In fact, the restaurant seemed so intimate that we could actually hear ourselves talk and we felt like we were the only people there. We weren't the only people there though so it felt slightly awkward. I felt like I had to be conscious of how loud I was talking which made me uncomfortable because when I go to a restaurant, I typically don't need to monitor the volume of my voice. At one point I heard someone shushing us and I felt like we were at a silent restaurant. With all that said, I would visit this restaurant again because the food was good, perhaps on a day that I lose my voice. read more

We thought this place was going to be good given that it had decent reviews. We tried the fried tofu, the outside texture felt rubbery. The sauce of the fried tofu wasn't thick enough for it to stick onto the tofu when you dip it in so there was no taste to the tofu. This was my first time here for dinner. The pad Thai, spring rolls and chicken satay were excellent. The mixed vegetables were good but the portion was tiny for $13. The coconut soup had way too much fish sauce, and the spicy mussels were just ok. Here is what the owners should do to make this an excellent place: 1. Lower the lights. So uncomfortable with the overhead lights on full blast. 2. Turn up the music.i could hear conversation across the restaurant. 3. Get a full liquor license. 4. Put up some Thai decor. I went there before Christmas, for lunch with friend. The food is always good. There weren't many people there, we had plenty of distance to anyone else. All staff wore masks. Good since we don't usually go out. We ordered shrimps in a blanket as appetizer. The best. They have a large lunch menu with many plate choices which include rice. They serve the Thai Iced Tea with two small carafes: one with cream and one with simple syrup so you can make your iced tea as creamy and sweet as you like. Great idea! It takes a couple of sips to get the mix right. The soups were very good, we got the Tom Khar and Hot & Sour Shrimp. Portion size was disappointing with entrees: Shrimp Himaparn and Chicken Green Curry. For what we paid, the portion sizes should have been larger. I left the Boston area several years ago for San Diego, but miss Siam Lotus. I try to make a trip down to Norwood for Siam Lotus when I'm in town, even when I'm staying in downtown Boston. One of my favorite versions of Pad Kee Mao is labeled on Siam Lotus's menu as "Savory Noodles" ($9) and described as "fried flat rice noodles with ground chicken in hot and spicy holy basil sauce." I remember coming to love this delicious stir-fry dish 15 years ago when I was in my 20s and working long hours at a tech startup across the street. Pad Kee Mao is called "Drunken Noodles" at most other Thai restaurants in the United States, a poor translation of "Pad" (stir-fry) and "Kee Mao" (drunk person). No alcohol is added to Pad Kee Mao, despite its name. Folklore is that it got its name from its ability to jolt drunks back to sobriety due to its powerful spices. After trying numerous interpretations of Pad Kee Mao, Siam Lotus's remains my favorite. If I don't order the Savory Noodles, I order the "Duck Choo Chee" ($19), featuring a generous amount of succulent roasted duck swimming in a decadent Choo Chee curry sauce with snow peas, baby corn, and other vegetables. The "Beef Panang" ($14) is a traditional curry dish that I've been known to order from Siam Lotus, with slices of tender beef covered in a peanut-based Panang Curry sauce. It hits the spot if I'm in the mood for a sweeter Thai dish. My favorite appetizer at Siam Lotus is the "Steamed Prince Edward Island Mussels" ($8.75) - particularly for the sweet, spicy sauce it is served with. Their "Siam Rolls" ($5.25) are good too, and guaranteed to please a crowd. (The turnip sauce they're served with is relatively weak, but you can order them like Jay K., with a crushed red pepper sauce on the side.) Service at Siam Lotus is always fast. Everyone who works there is courteous, and I've never had an issue with anything despite visiting well over a 100 times over the years. In summary, I highly recommend this place. For those who don't work or live in Norwood or Dedham, Siam Lotus is an "under the radar" gem for traditional Thai food and deserves more love on Yelp. Food/Décor/Service: 4.4/3.9/4.1 read more

Take out: We ordered and they quoted us 20 minutes, came 30 minutes and had to wait another 15 minutes. Total time for takeout: 45 minutes. Really? We might as well eat there! What's the point of take out if it takes that long. I guess they were still cooking something we ordered. We ordered: Pad Thai with chicken, pad see eew with chicken, satay chicken, and tom yum soup with shrimp. The food was "meh". The Tom Yum soup doesn't taste like a normal Tom Yum soup, this one tasted weird, like it didn't have that lemongrass or lime taste, it wasn't sour. I can't pin the taste down, but it's not a typical tom yum soup. I did not like it. The pad thai noodles was very bland and "eggy". Usually pad thai has this orange color to it, this one was more of white-ish and egg tasting. It wasn't too bad, but not your normal Thai pad thai. Needs more flavoring. The pad see eew on the other hand was better than the other 2 dishes, but a little soy saucey...And the noodles were all stuck together and a bit mushy. It's like they can't get it right... And the Satay chicken was the only good thing. It was a big chunk of meat and the peanut sauce was delicious! Overall, if you are expecting authentic Thai food, this place doesn't do Thai justice. I've eaten at many many many Thai places and my good friend is Thai and her mom's cooking is very authentic, and this one was more on the bland side and tasted nothing like Thai food!
