As soon as I walked into this place, I knew the food was going to be amazing. The atmosphere was cool. Not a lot of seating but it was 4 of us and we were able to get a table. Now the food. Oh my goodness. We ordered the fried gyoza and spicy wings for an appetizer. 9/10 on both. Both were crunchy and flavorful. We then orders a won ton soup for our 4 year old. The broth on that was incredible. Never had a won ton soup that tasty. 9/10 on the won ton soup. My oldest son had the duck soup. The broth on it was so good. the duck was cooked well. I thought that was 9.5/10. Mom ordered grilled pork vermicelli noodles. The pork was so tender and nice. 8/10. And I had the orange chicken with white rice. So glad I ordered that. 29 Bistro is an amazing and delicious spot for Thai and Vietnamese food. The minute I walked in, I felt transported. Everything about my experience from the food, to the decor, to the friendly staff felt so warm and welcoming. I came here on a Thursday night with two friends. We were seated immediately with no issues. We ordered the Pho Ga (chicken pho), Pho 29's Giant Rib, and Grilled Beef Bun (vermicelli). The broth was super fragrant that warmed the soul. And the giant rib was so tender that the meat fell off the bone. The vermicelli was also very light and refreshing. The entire meal was so satisfying! There is plenty of street parking and lots of shops close by to spend the afternoon or evening in Dedham center. read more

I've been wanting to come here for awhile now so finally tried it for the first time. I got the grilled beef rice plate which is my go-to dish at most Vietnamese restaurants. This dish was very good and met my expectations. Will definitely come back here as the flavors are very authentic for good Vietnamese. I hesitate to write about this spot due to wanting it to stay a hidden gem. But I think you need to know about it, so here goes. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. They magically always get my order right. The ambiance is nice- it has an airy cafe feel. I love the mural on the back wall. I've tried their Pho, vermicelli bun, pad Thai, fresh rolls, etc and will definitely order them again. My one gripe is that I would welcome a larger portion of veggies in the curry. It looks more like a lunch-special size vs the meal size that I'm used to from other places. I really appreciate that they will steam the tofu in the pad Thai, unlike many places where you can only get fried. It is a testament to the freshness of the food. The shrimp is great- the portion size is generous and it's alway fresh. It's tricky to find at first, because it's tucked away on a side street, across from the fire station. But it's easy to get to once you find it and there's plenty of nearby parking. Enjoy! read more

This is our half dozenth time coming here due to convenience to home and it has been a joy to help out small businesses. The quality of the food is consistent every time we come. For variety it's the place to be, versus the other place further down which is more Thai centric. Usually we order different varieties of the Pho soups, sometimes the spicy ones and sometimes the mild ones depending on the the kid's tastes at the time. The appetizers are also cooked fresh to order and never lacking in quality. The portion sizes are fairly in line with other restaurants outside the area and we are always looking forward to visiting egen when there is other choices around. We recommend this place to anyone who is looking for authentic Thai and Vietnamese food if they don't want to venture to Quincy or Boston. You will definitely not be disappointed. read more

Stopped here for a dinner with friends. Seated right away but it was busy later and people waiting on seats. Colorful shop inside and little photos decorating the wall. A little Vietnamese and Thai restaurant. They have parking in the side for a couple hours, small lot. The Thai iced tea is good and can be made less sweet (which is still very sweet). The beef pad see ew was just okay, too sweet and oily for me, and broccoli instead of Chinese broccoli wasn't the right fit. Service was a bit spotty, the two people were running around between the different tables and didn't have much time to do anything other than take orders and bring food out. We used to visit this restaurant a couple of times each month. The last few times have been disappointing . We'll go elsewhere from now on. Last evening our pick-up order took an extra 30 minutes. We received no extra vegetables as ordered and paid for and we received fewer noodles because the extra tofu was added to the bowl of noodles instead of being packed separately like it has been in the past. When we asked about this we were dismissed. The flavor of the soup was very bland. And one tiny leaf of Thai basil was included with the bean sprouts for the soup. In the distant past, several leaves would be in the bag. One leaf is nothing g more than a garnish and does nothing for flavor. oh well, it felt good to support a local business but their food and service is not reliable and their customer service is subpar. read more

We've been here twice on a date night and it is truly delicious. Fairly unassuming place in an interesting location a bit away from the main downtown. Service is quick, attentive, but never overbearing. Food is fresh, with generous portions and always flavorful. I'm sometimes skeptical of a spot that boasts multiple cuisines (thai and vietnamese) but I got the pho (twice!) and my husband gets thai food. The massaman curry is delicious and huge. We have had their ribs appetizer and the pork belly and both were DELICIOUS. I can't recommend this place enough. Drinks are good too, though the boba pearls themselves are kind of hit or miss (chewy today but not that yummy?) Lots of options of food for anyone to enjoy and it's clearly well loved because we came on a Monday night and it was nonstop busy. No photos because we inhaled our food. read more

Kind staff, but do not come here for the Bun Bo Hue--the portion is small for the price ($16.50), no veggies (bean sprout/cabbage/herbs) on the side for takeout like at Viet restaurants, there is only beef slices (no pork hock, tendon, etc), the soup is pretty heavily lemongrass over anything else, but the biggest difference is that they use thin pho noodles instead of thick XL vermicelli. It feels like you're eating an entirely different dish. I truly appreciate the hard work that goes into making every meal, and I'm glad Dedham has a spot for Viet+Thai food, but this is not super authentic or satisfying Vietnamese. read more

Today was our first time at 29 Pho, and we were not familiar with the menu. We put together a little "tasting menu" 4 apps and 2 mains. Our waitress was very nice and very patient with us. The apps arrived piping hot from the oven with side sauces. We loved them all, the 2 mains followed, we ordered chicken dishes, we were delighted with both. I have stage 4 cancer and I'm on chemo for it. It causes sores in my mouth after infusion. For some reason, the owner ABSOLUTELY REFUSES to accommodate my request to finely dice vegetables and meat so I can more easily chew them. This has happened on multiple occasions, I always ask ahead of time, and I only ask when I need it done. Sometimes one of the waitresses will do it for me, but the owner? You know SHE does for me? Brings out a steak knife and expects ME to cut things on a plate with ridges... I'm sorry, but in all of my 46 years on this planet, never have I once been told by any restaurant to do my own food prep... Uh, doesn't your kitchen have more appropriate knives and probably even a cutting board or at least an to cut things? And wouldn't it take them all of 5 seconds to do this for me? Instead this is how I'm treated, BY THE OWNER. Tonight I asked if they could accommodate me BEFORE I ordered (given their history of giving me trouble over this), and the waitress said it was okay, so I placed my order. The waitress later brings out a plate of veggies for me to cut and the knife for me to cut them with, and now I'm confused... she says "the girl who usually does it for you isn't here.." Uh, "That's not my problem, take it back to the kitchen and have the kitchen cut them, or if you won't cut them for me, I'll just leave." At this point, one half of my order has arrived and I'm not digging in until this fiasco gets resolved. Ultimately they REFUSE TO CUT THE VEGETABLES... I get up and leave. I left at least $25 worth of food on the table. I hope it was worth for you to lose my business because you WON'T kindly accommodate a guy battling STAGE 4 CANCER, who is only trying to eat as easily as he can. I don't know what the owner is thinking when she looks at me, but whatever thoughts she has in her head about me have to be so far off it isn't funny. To be honest, I only even go there because it's close and chemo takes all of my energy, but I have to force myself to move and they're a 2 minute walk from me. So now I'll have to walk more than twice the distance to get food. Thanks to a couple of the waitresses there who DID accommodate me, your service was much appreciated and you know I tipped you well for it too. You gals get 5 stars. Good food and very reasonably priced, especially the lunch specials. Pho is great and I really like the Banh Mi sandwich. Note the menu says lunch is served with a crispy roll and a salad, but they've recently started offering soup or salad, which is great but they don't tell you if you get the soup you don't get the crispy roll (my favorite part). We usually get take out and sometimes they seem to get behind during the dinner rush (food not ready on time). Always tasty food and definitely in our regular rotation for local options. read more
