*Pho 29S Giant Rib (Spicy)
Erica C.

29 Bistro is an amazing and delicious spot for Thai and Vietnamese food. The minute I walked in, I felt transported. Everything about my experience from the food, to the decor, to the friendly staff felt so warm and welcoming. I came here on a Thursday night with two friends. We were seated immediately with no issues. We ordered the Pho Ga (chicken pho), Pho 29's Giant Rib, and Grilled Beef Bun (vermicelli). The broth was super fragrant that warmed the soul. And the giant rib was so tender that the meat fell off the bone. The vermicelli was also very light and refreshing. The entire meal was so satisfying! There is plenty of street parking and lots of shops close by to spend the afternoon or evening in Dedham center.

I've been wanting to come here for awhile now so finally tried it for the first time. I got the grilled beef rice plate which is my go-to dish at most Vietnamese restaurants. This dish was very good and met my expectations. Will definitely come back here as the flavors are very authentic for good Vietnamese. Didn't get to try the Thai so not sure if it meets my expectations for good Thai so will have to come back and review that. @29bistro

We got pho (excellent, delicious broth), bún vermicelli with fried tofu (light and delicious, fried tofu was well-seasoned), and massaman curry (smooth, potatoes well cooked, tofu great). The Thai iced tea was also well-steeped. All-around great food and this will definitely go on my list!

I hesitate to write about this spot due to wanting it to stay a hidden gem. But I think you need to know about it, so here goes. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. They magically always get my order right. The ambiance is nice- it has an airy cafe feel. I love the mural on the back wall. I've tried their Pho, vermicelli bun, pad Thai, fresh rolls, etc and will definitely order them again. My one gripe is that I would welcome a larger portion of veggies in the curry. It looks more like a lunch-special size vs the meal size that I'm used to from other places. I really appreciate that they will steam the tofu in the pad Thai, unlike many places where you can only get fried. It is a testament to the freshness of the food. The shrimp is great- the portion size is generous and it's alway fresh. It's tricky to find at first, because it's tucked away on a side street, across from the fire station. But it's easy to get to once you find it and there's plenty of nearby parking. Enjoy!

This place was good for the location. It's decent and has a wide variety of Asian food! The chicken wings were fried too long and came out dry. The pho was good! I do love it when it comes out hot!! The veggies we looked fresh! The service was a little slow but not bad. The place was cute and inviting. Parking was a little challenge during lunch but overall a good spot to check out!!

This is our half dozenth time coming here due to convenience to home and it has been a joy to help out small businesses. The quality of the food is consistent every time we come. For variety it's the place to be, versus the other place further down which is more Thai centric. Usually we order different varieties of the Pho soups, sometimes the spicy ones and sometimes the mild ones depending on the the kid's tastes at the time. The appetizers are also cooked fresh to order and never lacking in quality. The portion sizes are fairly in line with other restaurants outside the area and we are always looking forward to visiting egen when there is other choices around. We recommend this place to anyone who is looking for authentic Thai and Vietnamese food if they don't want to venture to Quincy or Boston. You will definitely not be disappointed.

Stopped here for a dinner with friends. Seated right away but it was busy later and people waiting on seats. Colorful shop inside and little photos decorating the wall. A little Vietnamese and Thai restaurant. They have parking in the side for a couple hours, small lot. The Thai iced tea is good and can be made less sweet (which is still very sweet). The beef pad see ew was just okay, too sweet and oily for me, and broccoli instead of Chinese broccoli wasn't the right fit. Service was a bit spotty, the two people were running around between the different tables and didn't have much time to do anything other than take orders and bring food out. Pho looked ok, will try another time.

What a great find. The place was clean and service was good. The pho was tasty and had plenty of meats. The side dish of Thai basil, like, and bean sprouts could have used a few chilies, but otherwise great. The hibiscus tea was also tasty.

We used to visit this restaurant a couple of times each month. The last few times have been disappointing . We'll go elsewhere from now on. Last evening our pick-up order took an extra 30 minutes. We received no extra vegetables as ordered and paid for and we received fewer noodles because the extra tofu was added to the bowl of noodles instead of being packed separately like it has been in the past. When we asked about this we were dismissed. The flavor of the soup was very bland. And one tiny leaf of Thai basil was included with the bean sprouts for the soup. In the distant past, several leaves would be in the bag. One leaf is nothing g more than a garnish and does nothing for flavor. oh well, it felt good to support a local business but their food and service is not reliable and their customer service is subpar.

@Bistro29, Pad thai Lunch special with soup is very filling and tasty. Everyone was nice.Service was quick and next time.I think I will stay and eat my lunch on-site because the restaurant is quite cute and cozy.

The set up of…read morethe grills made the seating awkward as we filled the chairs around the grill (8) but then had 4 people in a row taking over a little of the other one (even though it was not in use). We started by ordering drinks and 3 rolls of sushi. I didn't get their names since we just told them to bring out their best ones, which I think they interpreted as best sellers. All were very delicious, and the presentation was lovely. We all chose to do the hibachi; with some combination of filet mignon, chicken, steak, shrimp, or scallops. They started with making the rice, followed by the noodles (optional but $4 more per person), then the meat, and later the vegetables. They got everyone's order correctly and did a fantastic job of rationing the portions so that everyone got about the same. They also performed all the tricks including the eggs toss, the onion volcano /train, and tossing food / liquids into people's mouths. I found that because they make everything separate, my rice and noodles were cold by the time my meat and veggies were ready. It's a blessing and curse that you can see them cook in front of you. Blessing because you know how your food is being handled and can see the freshness of it, but a curse because you realize all your food is being cooked with the same "seasonings"/sauces. I personally thought it was a bit bland, but everything tasted fresh. The yum yum sauce was initially sweet, but after that, I couldn't pin point the flavor. Overall, it was a good time. Food quality I would say 3 stars, but ambiance and service is 4.5 stars. I think it's a good setting for corporate events. We didn't get any, but upon request it seems like they were blowing up little reindeer antler head bands. When we paid, they also gave us a gift card to use at a future visit which was nice.

No one was offered another drink or allowed to finish eating. She stacked new plates onto our area so she could set the table! Our bill with tip was $850 plus we tipped both chefs $50 each!!! I am disgusted! They knew it was a special birthday and she was plain nasty!!!

Interior felt very modern and sleek - it was a bit small as well so it was a little cramped between tables and walking areas. The menu had a good selection of szechuan fare and we ended up sharing some of their popular dishes. I enjoyed the large fish one which was a good size for a family. Everything tasted authentic, my only qualm was paying for rice - you can't not have rice and it seems ridiculous to pay $3 for one bowl. Overall, a solid restaurant and option for Chinese food in Harvard Square.

Two weekend visits to this relatively new subterranean Sichuan eatery in Harvard Square (Eliot…read moreStreet) with a very inviting interior and some VERY spicy dishes. -- Vegetarian Cold Noodle: Firm, peanut buttery, satisfying. Not spicy. Not too saucy, so you can "feel" the noodle, but I would have liked more vegetables. -- Yibin Fiery Noodles: Warm and similarly al dente, these were manageably spicy. Meat crumble, seeds or nuts, scallions, and heat. -- Red and Green Pepper Chicken: Batterless but crisp, tender, and not boneless. Relentlessly spicy from several heat sources and kaleidoscopically delicious. The closest comparison is dry hot chicken that also goes by a few other names, but this was better. Elite, and the best thing I ate in all of 2025, but sadly no longer on the menu. -- Stone Pot Tofu: Billed as Ma Po Tofu sizzling in a stone pot, but no sizzle and no stone pot. Identified as very spicy but minimally spicy and more numbing (more "ma" than "la"). I enjoyed the overall flavor (heavily seasoned) and the saltiness of the fermented black beans. Despite some of the menu discrepancies, this was a really good version for my tastes. Near-elite. -- Green Beans With Eggplant: Strong flavor, not too hot spicewise, but volcanically hot temperaturewise. Decent. -- Chicken and Clams: Black bean flavor, whole peppercorns, spicy but loaded with flavor beyond the spice. A deceptively huge and quite delicious. Elite. -- Beef Spring Rolls: Not my choice. Crisp, beefy, and chili sauce on the side added contrast. Solid, but boring, more typical of an Americanized offering, and a waste of an opportunity given Too Hot's killer menu. -- Pork Belly with Fermented Beans: Superb rendition, not drastically different from twice cooked pork, but much more flavor and giant pieces. Near-elite to Elite. -- Shrimp in Dry Hot Pot: Tons of dry rub spiciness, giant shrimp, chopped vegetables, and crinkle cut potatoes. Near-elite. -- Brussels Sprouts w/Shallots: More subtle flavors here but hardly bland. Fried shallots had sort of an onion ringy presence in miniature. Cooked just right. Outstanding overall experience, with the best dish on the first visit and almost all winners on the second. Kudos to the friendly and helpful service, including a server suggestion to switch an item after noticing we ordered two very similar items. Eager to return often and try even more of the menu.

It's the perfect spot to start or end the night with friends! It can get quite busy at the bar or in the dining area but the staff are really accommodating and friendly. What!? $25 charge per person for a late cancellation? I wasn't planning on no-showing, but I'm also not willing to put my credit card down to commit for a group. Cloud Asian Fusion is in the corner of the plaza that houses China Pearl and Kam Man, to the right of Kam Man. It is a long narrow type space. Rather industrial, and concrete. I arrived first and scored the last table in the room with the bar, only to later discover that there were a few tables in the room in the back to the right. My DCs were running late, so I gave our waiter a head's up. He never made me feel bad for taking up the space. And it helped that there was never a queue waiting to be seated that Sunday night. We each ordered our own meal while sharing bites. While there are a few entrees at Cloud Asian Fusion that include both protein and vegetable, such as the Braised White Fish $22 (assorted mushrooms, fried tofu) one DC ordered, mine (Siam Crab Curry $22 - lump crab, spicy red curry, basil, bean sprouts, Thai Chili, thin rice noodles) and my other DC's (Mapo Katsu $16 (chicken katsu, mapo sauce, short grain white rice, furikake) came without (I don't count the small stash of raw bean sprouts on my plate), so I added the blistered green beans $16. Our server was pleasant and told me that they could make anything less mild. Even so, the slow burn from the milder Siam Crab Curry was a bit more than I would have liked. He checked up on me and offered to have the chef prepare a fresh batch with a milder curry powder instead, so I could better enjoy my meal. The original orange yellow of my crab curry bowl was turned a green yellow in its replacement. But it was still tasty, and still generous with lump crab meat. This was a good pick! The green bean vegetable dish was quite good too. I was happy with my meal. I sampled the other two dishes and found the regular mapo sauce recipe too spicy for my taste. The fish dish was tasty, but we found nothing especially fusion about it. 3 stars all around experience, but 4 stars for my own meal.

Staff was very knowledgeable about each entree, and provided information about how entrees were cooked and served. They also had a "halvsies" menu of half-size portions (ideal portions for one or two diners). Started with the Mama Chang Pork Dumplings, which were excellent, and the cauliflower appetizer (a little spicy, but very good). Liked the udon noodles with chicken and bok choy, although a little less red chili pepper would have suited my tastes better (good for those who like a bit of zing to their food). The lettuce wrap chicken was well worth the 20-minute wait. Finished with the lemon ginger mousse, which was very light. The fortune cookie on the mousse was fresh and crisp, so good that some thought it might have been baked at Joanne Chang's Flour Cafe and Bakery. The finish was extra nice, with a red lucky envelope with chocolates accompanying the check, an orange at each table (signs for good fortune in the New Year), and red decorations hanging in the restaurant to create a festive setting. The interior is very cool, cozy, and the cool red paint design on the glass windows makes it all feel very charming and comfortable. We did have a bit of a wait for our table despite having reservations. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share between the 4 of us - scallion pancake, bourbon chicken wings, spicy salmon rolls, pork belly buns, sliced beef, eggplant, hot n sour soup, golden potato and lemongrass soup. I think my favorite of those was the eggplant dish - perfectly cooked and flavorful with ginger and soy. Wings were good too. The soups were nice I liked the hot n sour one. The lemongrass soup was a creamy one quite tasty but also quite filling and rich. For entrees, we ordered the roasted soy glazed salmon, the Indonesian fried rice, bok choy and surf and turf noodles. Everything was good. We were all so full and also had leftovers. But decided to order dessert too - everyone loved the vanilla bean ice cream (the menu described it as a parfait) with orange granita - really generous too - 3 scoops of ice cream and the orange sorbet which was more granular than a sorbet more like very finely crushed ice. Very refreshing! The banana caramel crème brûlée was really good too - nice and creamy. The lemon ginger mousse was very creamy but I thought had a bit too much of ginger. I think the deserts were hands down everyone's favorite part of the meal despite everyone pretty much denying they wanted any! Service was very friendly by our server Julie who was delightful! Lovely young lady. Overall great experience!!
