Neat little spot with a lot inside. I don't know a lot about tea so this place was a big surpise, I never never knew so many types existed - black, white, green, fruit, decaf and much more. On my visit I had the tumuric and pomegranate oolong. Both were good and hot. They didn't take too long to brew either, but as one would guess the 2nd time around it loses a lot of the flavor. The woman on staff was extremely knowledgeable about the selection. She talked all about it and answered questions. She let us smell the various teas to get an idea of their tastes. The only downside I saw here was that there is no bathroom, now she seemed to have a valid reason which is health inspection won't allow its proximity to the food or in this case drink. Ok, but how can you run a place where your product makes you have to use the bathroom and have no bathroom? Decent place otherwise and an absolute must visit it you're a 'tea drinker'. read more

I tried the Versailles Lavender earl grey and it was a lovely flavor. There are so many options to choose from so I definitely appreciated how helpful the staff was. They let me get a scent of different flavors and made recommendations. The price point is very good for the city. I'd say between $4-6 which is more than fair for the city. Hmph, I randomly discovered this place after brunch one day at Yuca Bar with my best friend. This place has a huge wall of teas from different regions and different varieties. The owner was there and she gave us a menu to pick something out. While I'm sure the teas are of good quality, they are pricey per pot and for to-go. I ordered an iced Earl Grey Supreme to go for $3.50. While it was certainly good, I'm not entirely sure I'd like to pay that much for it since all it was Earl Grey. I'm not entirely sure what the "supreme" aspect of it was though. They've a lot of cutesy tea accessories on the counter as well. As much as I enjoyed the tea, I'd probably only come here once in a while and would not make it a regular stop post-brunch. The place is really cute and small with cute decorations. I guess I just feel a certain way of paying $3.50 for an iced tea when a whole package of tea can retail for that same amount. Graffitea, you're just ok in my book. read more

Normally I am all about the little tea shops with hundreds of teas and a funky/quirky attitude. Not so with this place. The combo of the overpriced teas with the unevenness of the service makes this a place to avoid most of the time instead of a destination. I've been to this place five times now. The first time I was a bit put off by the arrangement of the place. There are few seats, the only good seats are by the window, and that fits five at most. The only usable outlet is in this area as well and if you try to use it be prepared to be scolded if the wrong employee sees you. With the vast choice of teas you should know your stuff before you go pick. I like that they give you a timer so the tea steeps just enough and all of the employees are knowledgeable. As others have mentioned, the prices are high for what you get. Both when buying tea to take home and getting it in the pot. If you can get past these things there are some nice aspects. Since the shop is small, it's pretty quiet. The pastries are really good (overpriced, tho). Many of the teas are excellent. Watch out for that owner/manager/whoever she is. Never been on the receiving end of her ire but I've seen her turn it on others. As a writer, i'm often tempted to drop in this place. Whenever I go, I remember again why i shouldn't. read more

Got rudely thrown out for sitting down for 2 seconds whole drinking out it of one of their to go cups. The owner insisted I pay an extra dollar for a different tea to sit down. The shop was empty. I'm fairly certain the owner has a personality disorder, because this seems to be a recurring issue. I will never go back after being rudely kicked out for getting tea to go, and then briefly sitting down while I warmed up. The counter person insisted I pay an extra dollar for more tea in a tea pot. Some days I simply want to feel regal, to behave like a pompous queen who can leisurely sip on tea...or I purely need to warm my insides from NYC callous winter weather. So I head to Graffitea in the East Village. A tiny shop with only four tables and colorfully painted walls, the choices of loose leaves are fantastic. There are more than 200 varieties of tea, organized well by black, green, oolong, mate, jasmine, fruity herbal infusions, and more, in large silver tins with cheery labels. The single staff associate will assist kindly, letting one sniff away at the options before making a final decision. They also offer in-house brewed kombucha. I decided on a Toffee Pu-erh selection, with a deliciously attractive caramelized aroma, which was served personally to me at my table shared with a cute couple nuzzling in the corner. Pu-erh tea is a wonderfully medicinal tea from China known to produce soothing qualities, and is also a great digestion aid, blood cleanser, and cholesterol reducer. The tea was both calming and delightful to my palette. There are a few treats to purchase to nosh on although I was fortunate to be sharing tea time with a talented chef/companion who carried some scrumptious homemade raw vegan cherry pie in tow. Tea and raw cherry pie? Majestic. Caveat: be cautious of your bladder for the shop is so petite that there is no public restroom. read more

A friend introduced me to this marvelous little tea shoppe last week and I fell in love with the cinnamon plum tea. The staff is incredibly cordial and helpful, and the ambiance is conducive to the East Village. I love this place and look forward to returning soon. What a great little tea shop! Best of all, it carries vegan baked goods. This is exactly what the East Village lacked till recently and happened to be exactly what I was looking for on a Saturday afternoon stroll. Physical GraffiTea has dozens of loose-leaf teas (sold by the ounce) and reasonable prices for pots of tea (around $4-5 for a pot for two). You can also get second steeps. Like any good tea shop, they carry a range of blacks, greens, oolongs and decaf herbals. As noted earlier, you can also buy vegan baked goods here. When I went they had a flourless chocolate cake, a pumpkin cookie and one other thing. Pretty simple selection, but it's always nice to eat something with an afternoon cup of tea. If this store had some savory food items (hummus, baba ganouj) and more seating it would warrant another star. As it stands, I'm glad it's around and I will return. read more

Music is calming and noise level is to a minimum. Very limited seating but myself and a friend were the only inhabitants. Definitely will come back again to try variety of their tea. They have premade iced tea that you can try before ordering. The only downside to this place is that they do not allowed outside food and there is no restroom. I always get one of their already brewed selections; my go-to is the Summer Lemon. The owner is really knowledgeable and recommends based on what goes well with your palate. A little bit pricey ($3 for one drink) but you're paying for quality. I recommend the Summer Lemon, and ask for a little bit of honey and mint. You will not regret it! read more

This place is a pretty cool spot. Went here with the boyfriend for a sitdown afternoon tea. The tea here is extensive and we ended up getting an oolong tea which was tasty. They had cool timers which told you when the tea was ready (which included white/green/black). The woman who worked here that day was extremely knowledgeable about tea and combination of herbal tea's. I was obviously eavesdropping on her conversation with another customer who had about 100 questions about the properties of the different herbs from weight loss to sleep assistance. She suggested different combinations for that customer which he ended up buying 3 or 4 different types of combinations of tea. I stumbled on Physical GraffiTea one night. I walked down the door and discovered this cute little unsuspecting tea shop. Being a loose tea drinker I got extremely excited! I stepped in, and immediately chatted up and friended the girl behind the counter. she was knowledgeable in her teas and very helpful. Every time I find new tea shops I love to leave with a new tea to try out. And that it exactly what she helped me do! I love this place! I'm really big on casual tea shops that focus on herbs in addition to regular tea. I'm a tea enthusiast, and while the tea here is not traditionally brewed (i.e. gong fu style tea), I appreciate the time they take to gather quality spices and herbs and deliver teas and herbs alike to the customer at an affordable price. That's why I keep coming back. I have even gotten some herbal teas for my own use at home for, say, relaxation and sleep. Such a useful shop this has been for me! While this place does offer the typical flavored teas, which are not really my thing, they do have good quality oolongs, green teas, and black teas that are great for casual tea drinking as you go about your busy life. Do not go into this place expecting connoisseur-grade tea. So long as you treat this shop as it is intending to be - a casual tea shop with a focus on herbs - then you should be quite pleased with it. Only drawbacks? No air conditioning during the warmer months. I can't really think of anything else. I guess I do wish their unflavored tea selection were bigger, but it satisfies me. read more

The employees really know about tea and have no petulant attitude because of that. You can try teas from multiple coutries, including japanese matcha. They also have some small stock of tea paraphernalia that is not mainstream production, but quite unique designs and shapes at very reasonable prices for such a lower east side place. They will spend time with you finding a tea that you like. I have been here twice and they seem never to be in a rush, they spnd time to understand what you are looking for. Really peaceful place on a basement, makes you feel like time is going very slow. Very small, not too much bakery/pastry to accompany your infusion but definitely a good place to stop before or after brunch/lunch/dinner at the mear by restaurants. Not a cheap place, pretty similar prices to other hip good tea places in the opposide side Greenwich Village. Very good for couples or small parties, no more than four. read more

Strolled in here on a really hot day. Amazing iced tea! Had a selection of 4 flavors, which was a nice change from the standard black iced tea. Owner was very friendly and knowledgeable about teas. Prices of loose-leaf teas seemed reasonable. Also offer espresso! Check out the facade of the building! It's the one on Led Zeppelin's album cover for "Physical Graffiti." Found this little Tea Shop while on my way to Proletariat. Decided to take a look see. I ordered a Matcha Latte with Almond Milk. The Employee making my tea was concerned that I might not like the strength of the tea so she had me taste it and was very obliging to tweak it for me if needed. Very thoughtful and considerate. The Latte was perfect and needed no tweaking. I also purchased dried Raspberry Green Tea and Berry Berry. Both very delicious. So I skipped the Beer and had the Matcha. I chose wisely. I had a really good experience with this shop in the past where a gentleman was really welcoming, let me sample a very well brewed tea, and was extremely knowledgeable. The overall atmosphere was really nice and I planned to come back. I later began to plan a private party in their shop and after dealing with the owner/manager? ilana over excessive emails; and everything turned really downhill. At first I was told it would be unlimited tea and we could stay as long as we needed so long as we informed her when we would finish, and i informed her it would be about 2 hours. The following emails where flaky, unprofessional, grammar-less, lacking punctuation, and uninformative. After I tried to change the tone of the emails explaining my party consisted of younger people and that we were choosing the place because we wanted a reasonably priced event, and also that we would return if it went well, the price went from $150 to $400. I will never work with this kind of business again. These kinds of tactics are essentially scams. I'm extremely disheartened.
