At least the grade of matcha they use is good. The cherry on top - the girl next to me said "It was supposed to be an iced latte" when the barista made her the wrong drink. No clue what was going on with the staff that day but at least the ambience is cute. Seating is limited and it began and to get crowded around 1pm. Pretty space with a good amount of seating for how small it is, though it doesn't look super comfortable. Must reserve tea flight in advance. Based on old photos the menu seems to rotate a bit. This is definitely a premium tea cafe so it's a bit pricy but at least for matcha and hojicha you can be sure they're using enough tea and not serving you a $9 cup of milk. The "black matcha" is a short cup but flavorful, the standard comes with oat milk and brown sugar syrup that walks the line on overpowering the hojicha. Would get it again, and would go again if in the neighborhood. Had a hojicha elsewhere nearby and it was mostly milk. The windows were dark and I could barely see inside until I opened the doors to see a coffee shop that looked like a greenhouse or conservatory. It was very hip and trendy with wooden benches, short wooden tables, all white walls, high ceiling, and big leafy plants. What a nice space to unwind and relax. Too bad there was no bathroom in this Cha &. I was looking for a door and came across a door that said staff. I was just shocked that there was no bathroom. How are we supposed to go if we have drinks and spend a long time in the spot? I hope they install a bathroom soon. The barista behind the counter was very attentive and nice to all the customers waiting in line to order their drink. He explained the drinks to the customer before me and I was very pleased at how nice he was with him. I was very happy that it was my turn next and he helped me place my order. I got the black matcha drink and thought I could get it cold but he said it was only offered in hot. I read the menu and they said the black matcha has the best in class houjicha powder. It is a dark roasted green tea with toasted chocolate notes paired with oat milk and brown cane sugar. It has minimal caffeine so it was good for me since I did not want that much caffeine in my system that day. After I placed my order, the barista told me to sit at a bench to wait for my drink to be ready. I was so ecstatic and shocked at how the black matcha came out to be. It was very tasty and subtly sweet. It almost tasted like black sesame. I loved it lot and was sad that I devoured it really fast since the cup was a standard size and in my opinion was kind of small. I wish it came in a bigger size so I can enjoy it better as I have more to sip on. Oh wells. I will definitely remember this black matcha forever and will come again to get it soon. There was also free samples of Innisfree green tea ceramide samples that are up for grabs. The barista was so nice about it that he allowed the customers to get as many as we want. Really enjoyed this spot as a place dedicated to quality tea with a long tea menu in the heart of lower Chinatown. Had iced teas a few times in the past and it wasn't too busy and the staff were knowledgeable and very helpful. Nothing was too sweet (or sweet at all, rather) and love that they're honoring the very underrated tea scene. Things were brewed well and tasted good overall. I think maybe I was expecting a little more in terms of tea fragrance but maybe I just gotta get it warm next time, or try different varieties. I soon learned he actually was the manager, and we ended up having a great conversation throughout the visit! Even though the shop was dealing with some electrical issues at the time, everything was handled calmly and smoothly, which honestly made the service even more impressive. The rest of the staff were also incredibly kind and welcoming to me on my visit. The blueberry cheese danish was scrumptious, especially once heated up. It was flaky, rich, and had just the right balance of sweetness without being cloying. While it's not baked in-house, it's sourced from nearby Balthazar Bakery, which the manager highly recommended. And based on how good this pastry was, it has definitely been added on my list to check out! To end the visit, I ordered the cardamom rose matcha latte, and it was such a unique and comforting drink. I wanted to try their matcha so ordered an iced one with a raisin pastry on the side. I took a seat, and the staff was kind enough to bring the order over. This is such a fun spot to go with fellow tea lovers and try a bunch of different things. We each got a flight, which comes with 6 tea shots and a pastry, as well as one full size tea. The white tea was my favorite, the green and black teas were super strong but an experience, and the sweetened teas were tasty. It was so unique to try each one by one, the perfect size to get a sense of the teas. The apple pastry and danish were really good, super flaky and not too sweet. I liked the indigo rose tea, the orange herbal tea was interesting but not totally my thing. The space is a little weird because they don't have a bathroom and kind of has the vibe of a pop up or like they just moved in, doesn't seem like they've totally figured out the space yet and where everything goes/having enough storage space for people's stuff. The very low tables when you're not sitting on the floor are a bit awkward for bending over to drink tea. We had a reservation for two and tried to change it to three but it's very difficult to get in touch with them, so be mindful of that. I went here a few days ago on the weekend. The people working inside were friendly and the inside is minimalistic and nice and I could imagine staying here in the afternoon with a tea and relaxing. I was talking to the guy there about tea and I mentioned that I also like oolong tea and he said that there's a possibility that they might get tea from Te Company which would be an excellent choice as they're one of if not the best oolong spots in the city. They gave me something to get half price off my next drink which was a nice touch. I decided to order their Gyokuro which is listed as one of their signatures which was $6 plus tax so I think around $6.80 or so (+ a tip as they were friendly.) You can either order this cold brew which is prepared prior or hot and fresh and I went with the former as I was planning walking for a good while and I didn't want to wait too much. The tea was very good quality with a nice vivid green and some mild floral sweetness. I'm not sure which brand they use but whatever it is, it was high quality and certainly was worth the price. Outside of the gyokuro, they also have silver needle as their white tea, assam as their black, and sencha as their less expensive green tea option for $5.50 plus tax. The other $6 options include a tea latte using either their black or white tea as well as a honey lemon tea. There's also coffee and pastries here. Good little specialty shop. They were giving samples outside so I tried some. Then when I entered, they were offering me to try almost everything on the menu before I decided. Friendliness 100%. They have a few tables, stools and couch seats with large windows which allows the natural sunlight to come in which I love!! Then they brought me a different tea to try as I was sitting there. They're still new so they only have pastries on the weekend so I was not able to try anything else. Also, no coffee . They had a limited menu when I went since it was still their soft opening. Although they're a tea bar, they do have some coffee options. It looks like if you get brewed tea, you can take the teapot back to the bar to get a top up of hot water! I got the tea latte (which has both black tea and coffee in it, along with condensed milk) and added cardamom - a solid drink with a slight amount of sweetness from the cardamom syrup.
