The academics were rigorous, but what made Broadoaks truly special was the way the teachers and staff inspired children to rise to those expectations with confidence and curiosity. The students were not simply sitting at desks memorizing facts. They were encouraged to move, collaborate, play, reflect, ask questions, think critically, and problem solve. Learning was active, meaningful, and individualized. I honestly did not fully appreciate just how extraordinary Broadoaks was until my sons transitioned to public high school. It quickly became clear that the skills they developed at Broadoaks far surpassed those of many of their peers. They entered high school with strong time management skills, confidence, excellent communication abilities, critical thinking skills, and the ability to independently meet and exceed classroom objectives and expectations. Broadoaks prepared them not only academically, but as capable, thoughtful, and self-directed young people. Like many small independent schools, Broadoaks was impacted by COVID and continues to work toward rebuilding enrollment and community support. Unlike public schools, they do not have the same funding resources, which makes community support even more important. If you are looking for a school that truly values individualized education, nurtures intellectual curiosity, and develops confident, capable learners, Broadoaks is the place. When concerns are raised, communication is handled in a dismissive manner rather than through collaboration or dialogue. Parent input is acknowledged superficially, key points are bypassed, and agreements made at the classroom level are not upheld at the executive level. After receiving an assessment that did not accurately reflect our child's abilities (completed less than two months into enrollment), we raised concerns about the lack of context, narrative, and communication. The teachers acknowledged the assessment was not an accurate reflection of her capabilities and agreed it should be updated to reflect her short acclimation period and current capabilities. However, when this was escalated to the Executive Director, those agreements were disregarded. Rather than updating the assessment as discussed, leadership insisted on singling out a child instead of correcting an administrative misstep. Requests to simply revise the original assessment with accurate context were dismissed. When we expressed concern about the long-term academic implications of having an inaccurate student record, we were dismissed. The Executive Director superficially acknowledged our concerns, and reasonable requests were met with inflexibility rather than problem-solving. A school's culture is shaped from the top. If families are leaving, leadership may want to reflect on how parent advocacy is received and addressed.

Meeting with my students was so fun and I was glad I could make a difference in their lives. Both Irma and Roxanne helped me out a lot and strive to make a difference in the Whittier community. Irma was so kind and always helped me in any way possible, even outside of the workplace. I highly recommend this facility to anyone who is an ESL student or did not get the full training in literacy. I also recommend this place to any kids that are behind in school. If I ever go back to Whittier I would love to visit WALC. This place helped me greatly appreciate children.

Unfortunately, there wasn't space for both of my children at the same time. My children have been to two schools prior to this one: Cornerstone Preschool, which was amazing until they were horrendously not (long story); and Gateway Montessori, which was also really good in terms of what I look for in a center. However, I never stopped following up with LLEA because I knew it was my dream school for my children. Eventually they informed me that there was space, and I transferred my children so quickly and have never looked back. My children have been attending since November 2024. They are AMAZING!! The teachers. The management staff. The owner. The facility. The curriculum. The academics. The fun!!! I can go on and on. I absolutely love this school and would recommend it to any parent or individual that is looking for work in a preschool. I had some challenges with my daughter's behavior, and rather than kicking my daughter out like Cornerstone Preschool did, they worked with us! Tried developmentally appropriate skills that I recommended, that they recommended, and that the owner (who is knowledgeable in child development) recommended. When all else failed, they held an SST with us and referred us to a third party that could provide in-house assistance (like a one-on-one with my daughter). They even allowed me in the facility to observe my daughter through the one-way mirror, and I was able to implement some changes with her based on what I observed. My daughter is doing SO well now. She's in their TK program this year and has made such great strides in her behavior. Even the teachers and owner are so impressed with her. This school genuinely cares about their students, and I can see such a difference between when a school genuinely cares about the successes and well-being of all students rather than just the well -behaved ones. I LOVE this school. They're an absolute God-send.

Top three aspects that makes me recommend Cornerstone, is the curriculum structure, the cleanliness and the safety. When you do an apples to apples comparison by grade to leading schools, our kids perform far above grade level. The school has recently incorporated robotics and a campus wide STEAM program. The Principal is always working to update the technology available to the kids; there are laptops or iPads available to most every student. The performing arts are AMAZING, incorporating the culture of the predominately Latino-Professional school with a music mariachi program, Folklorico dancing program, choir, spring musicals, and fall plays.

If you fail to complete your hours you must pay $20 for school hours and $25 for church hours which totals to $900! Fundraising is another $750 a year. This school is not the best and I would recommend to search for another. Many families get here and leave the following year. The office and principal favors families that have been there for awhile.
