About a year ago, I wanted to hire Beverly Wells to tune my piano. She looked at it and immediately said she wouldn't touch it and explained all the issues it had. I was sad since I had my piano for about 40 years and I continued to play it even after her sad news. I was ashamed for a long time to hire someone else to tune it. I spent a few years trying out different piano technicians. Once I found Beverly, my search stopped. I recommend her to all of my clients, as I know any piano she works on will play and sound great. Here is a letter I wrote her after some major work on the Steinway I play most often. I'm quite pleased with the piano. The damper issue in the bass register is gone and the pedal feels more secure and consistent. It also seems like you did some more voicing work to even out the upper register. I haven't noticed much in regards to the action, which is generally a great sign. Overall, it's the best the piano has played and sounded since I first put my hands on it. Also, I know I've mentioned this before, but I really appreciate how you care for the entire instrument instead of just tuning it or dealing with specific problems I mention. Your love for the instrument really shows through in how you approach the work. If only I could find an Allen Organ technician half as good as you, I would have no worries about my church instruments! read more

I called Beverly when I inherited a parlor grand piano that was totally out of tune and kind of a mess. She was quick to respond and we were able to set an appointment fairly quickly. She was straightforward about the condition of the piano and helped me maintain realistic expectations- no Carnegie Hall concerts for this piano! I wouldn't recommend Beverly. I liked her confidence when we talked on the phone, but in person she was arrogant and unprofessional. She came today to tune our almost four year old piano. She arrived late (traffic, it can happen to anybody) with only 45 minutes available to work. After checking the piano's sound, she announced that she needed to do a pitch raise for a rate much higher than what we talked on the phone ( from $155-$200) and said she could do it in 45 minutes. When I didn't agree she got upset, and even hit the piano with the tray while she was closing it and saying that she couldn't understand how I wasn't on board for such a small difference in the price. read more

Brendan was kind, non judgmental about the negligence apparent in the tuning and upkeep of our 1906 Wheelock upright Cassette player piano. He kept my husband and I informed of the needed work and repairs, for which we are in agreement with. I inherited a old piano that had seen better days. When I finally decided it was time to have it restored, I called Beverly at Piano Craft. That was absolutely the best decision I could have made. She came out to my house and did a very thorough examination of my piano. We then talked through several restoration options and soon found one that both addressed the needs of the piano and fit into my budget. Beverly was prompt, professional and extremely knowledgeable. I immediately knew that my piano was in good hands. Most of the work on my piano was done in Beverly's shop, and finishing touches were then completed when the piano was reassembled at my home. I am totally blown away by how fantastic my piano looks and sounds. It's almost like having a new piano, it's in such distinctly better shape now. We thought we were just getting a tuning but we ended up with a beautifully playing piano AND a glimpse into the fascinating biology of a remarkable instrument. Beverly is very professional and good at explaining the complex mechanisms of a piano. We has thought a 'free' piano we got just needed a little tuning to get it back up to speed but it needed a lot more than that. Beverly explained why a tuning wouldn't work if a major structural part was broken and also gave us options for what was essential and what could wait to be fixed. She also pulled an old knife (not ours) and a yellowed wedding RSVP from the 50s or 60s (also not ours) out of our piano and told us stories of other oddities she's found in pianos over the years. My family has owned an older upright piano for over 20 years (originally purchased from an auction), which had only been tuned a couple times during our possession. The piano was eventually passed down to me and mostly sat, being played only periodically. I recently decided to take up piano again and would like to teach my daughter, so set out to locate someone to tune the piano. Beverly was the only 5-star rating, with outstanding reviews, so I thought I'd give her a try and emailed through her website. She contacted me back quickly that evening and I called her the next day to set up a time. The only time that worked was when my husband was available, and he couldn't tell you the first thing about the piano (or any instrument). However, Beverly came and checked the piano out, went over what she could with my husband, and called me and went over the details. It turned out that there was a 9-inch crack behind the bridge, which was only part of the problem. Since this piano means a great deal to me and I would like to pass it down to my children and grandchildren, we decided to go ahead and get the work done. Not only did the crack need to be repaired, but the hammers were very worn, the tuning would need to be done a few times, and something else needed to be fixed. Beverly set up 2 separate times to come out, to repair the bridge and set epoxy, which would need a couple days to set properly, then to place everything back together and tune the piano itself. She worked around my schedule (even offering to work on July 4th, one of our only days off!), and not only did the work efficiently, but shared some of her own history working with pianos. I can't sing enough praises about Beverly and the work she has done! I'm so appreciative and will definitely be contacting her in the future for any other tuning or repairs. Thank you!! read more

I was looking at a piano listed by a private seller in North Bay, which was too far away for me to easily visit. I asked Beverly to do an inspection of the piano. She was fantastic. She visited the piano promptly, and called me afterwards with her opinion and detailed list of the piano's condition. She answered all of my questions. I can't say enough positive about Piano Craft. When I called, I didn't know if I needed a complete strip and refinish that would include having the complete piano moved out and at great expense, or if a touch up could be done. They came out and said it could be done in my home, what was involved and what it would cost - and didn't try to sell me something I didn't need. They showed up in timely fashion and worked neat and effectively. They buffed and polished the bad spots and blended it all in, replaced 6 ivories, totally and thoroughly cleaned the inside. It looks brand new. They will come back and tune it about a month, and may do some needed maintenance on the "action". All and all it was a first rate job in a tough situation.
