Being a devoted follower of "Gavi" since the mid 90's I believe that time has finally taken its toll on Piazza Gavi. From the moment we sat down the once magical experience was no where to be found. Food tastes great- and dish sizes were big so easily can get two meals out of one dish. I recommend doing the lunch special. We did the lunch special. For $25 pp included for each person was a glass of wine, which I liked very much, a giant salad appetizer, and a main dish meal, which I was able to have made gluten free. I use to love this place. It's been years since I was here and I wanted for my birthday to go here. We drive an hour just to get here. We arrived (without a reservation...yeah I know) and the hostess asked us if we had reservations and My Wife said "no we thought about it. ". The host said to my wife and I "of course you didn't.". Nice! We proceeded to stay, even though we were given attitude. They sat us on the patio which was nice and pretty. They also made a fuss even though I counted about 8 open tables enough for the 4 of us. We ordered our food, which was actually really good, but when the waiter brought the plates to the table, he slammed the plates down and then proceeded to go to the people next to us and talk to them. We use to love this place. The food is good but service was bad from the waiter and hostess. The 2 stars is because the food, ice cream (which they gave us for free), the ambiance and the AMAZING manger that came around and waited on us towards the end of our visit and refilled our waters too. We had a great date night! The food we had was delicious, but the service was even better. Our waiter Eric was amazing and at one point a person who I suspect was at least a manager asked us if we were warm (we were sitting outside) and she moved a heater closer to us. I lived in NY for years, took cooking classes in Positano, make my own burrata, etc. Went here once and was shocked at how tasteless and bland everything we ordered was. Third time dining at Gavi's. Least favorite experience. I remember there being antipasto and better bread options served complimentary a couple years ago. I ordered the Chicken Marsala. I was hoping for a variety of mushrooms rather than all white button. At $33 I'd expect to be blown away and that wasn't the case. Spaghetti served on side was unremarkable. Our favorite Friday night dinner place! So much charm! We always sit at the bar and have never had a problem finding a couple open seats even when it's crowded. The bartenders are amazing and provide exceptional service. The menu has so many options, even gluten free, and the portions are large enough to share or take half home. My family and I dinning this past week at this restaurant and it was an unfortunate experience the food was amazing but management was horrible... apparently the managers in this place are to busy to solve the problems of costumers apparently in this place the managers serve tables? If you ask me there is only place to do one, either you are a manager or de server. I had to wait to pay my bill because the manger took to long to fix the problem. This not the first time I have and uncomfortable experience due to management in this place I been dining several times in here and a lot of times I have to see how horrible the staff is treated by the this old lady manager she is always yelling at them and being so mean and it really ruins your experience hearing how poorly these servers get treated. My family and I order from Piazza Gavi often through delivery service. Besides the pepperoni pizza and fettuccine alfredo, we tried some new dishes this time. We ordered the mushroom Romana and chopped salad. I highly recommend the mushroom Romana. The creamy Rosa sauce pairs perfectly with the fresh mushrooms and angel hair pasta. server ruined our dinner - what an arrogant sob... he was clueless about everything but pretended to be an authority on everything . I took an out of town guest there raving about food, ambiance and service only to have this waiter mumble about the Malbec which was incredible musty and undrinkable. I am on wine industry and think cork was bad but he did not take off bill or offer to replace . A great spot for a hearty Italian lunch! We sat on the patio and enjoyed a round of bruschetta, red wine, and of course some amazing pasta dishes. Our waiter was informative and checked on us often. Luckily at lunchtime on a weekday there weren't many other diners so we nearly got the place to ourselves. Okay, this is my second review. First review was great. We thought we had found a place to dine near our house that we liked. And was delighted with everything. After dining here numerous times, our last visit was terrible. We had a reservation. We waited 30 minutes and no server approached us. I flagged the hostess. She was apologetic and went to find out who was to be attending our table. Ten (10) more minutes passed...we decided to leave. As we were leaving a young male server asked us if we had been helped. I hastily said "No, we are leaving. We have been waiting at our table for 40 minutes without any acknowledgement". He mumbled something. But at that point I didn't care. I had to say something here as I noticed numerous similar service reviews in YELP. Perhaps the management will take notice of the reviews and make some changes in staff. I too was a waiter once in a busy restaurant so I understand the hectic pace of it. But what I found totally unacceptable was not even an acknowledgment from any server such as "thank you for your patience I'll be right with you". That's basic common sense. Management: PLEASE do something about training your staff about basic server etiquette. That would go a long way. read more

This is one of our favorite spots in Tucson and feels like any number of r of hidden gems I used to enjoy in my home state of New Jersey. The standard Italian fare is great but they have a few dishes that stand out like the Chicken Fior de Latte, a spicy, creamy dish that never fails to satisfy. Do not be faked out by the 3.6 rating. There are a bunch of 1 star reviews that seem to speak to a period where the waitstaff was overworked. You'll note that there were few, if any, complaints about the food. I'm a native Tucsonan, but live out of state. Still come back every couple of months to visit my folks. How have I not heard of this great place? We stopped in on a whim for lunch, having looked at other eateries nearby and not wowed. What a great find this is! We had a veal milanese and a veal parm. Both delicious, as were the side spaghettis. Everything I saw coming out from the kitchen looked great. For a 2pm lunch, a lot of people here. No issues with the service at all, they were hustling. Put on a meeting at Loews Ventana Canyon recently and took my staff to dinner here twice. Wed was pretty empty ... Fri you should have reservations. Large restaurant and big outdoor covered area as well. Full bar with great dirty martinis. If you like calamari steak and they have the calamari steak parm appetizer get it! It is two huge steaks with lots of sauce. Found it odd they do not have a caesar salad. They have an entire menu dedicated to ravioli. The butternut squash ravioli hs a lot of veggies and good flavor. We got tiramisu and while not bad it was not traditional. The spumoni gelato was very good, especially the cherry flavor. I always enjoy coming here. The portion sizes here are large. Two people could probably share an appetizer and entrée. Don't be scared away by the decorations inside. They kind of have the decor of a chain restaurant, but the food is really good. Here are some of me and my family's favorites: - Lobster Ravioli - 10 large raviolis in cream sauce. Homemade ravioli with chunks of lobster. They said it was a lemon cream sauce but the lemon isn't overwhelming. Highly recommend this dish - Scallop and Shrimp Serenata- Spaghetti is in a white creamy sauce that is savory but not too salty. It has Onions, mushrooms, spinach and diced tomatoes. - Cioppino- spaghetti served in a tomato based seafood soup. It has a hint of lemon. This is my mom's favorite dish. - Pork carenevale- Thinly pounded Pork is moist (not breaded) and covered in mozzarella, ricotta and spinach topped with shrimp and a creamery pink sauce. Served with a side of penne. There is usually a good crowd here during the week, but there are plenty of tables. On the weekends, I highly recommend getting a reservation. read more

This was an interesting experience. I eat solo at a lot of bars, locally and around the country. Things that were good here: the food (stuffed salmon, dinner salad, tiramisu, 2 glasses of wine). I understood that just I came in they had just had a big rush. No problem, I wasn't in a hurry and don't like to be rushed anyway. I appreciate that there is a dinner salad option to add on for $5, and the pacing between that and the entree was good. I had to work pretty hard to catch the bartender's eye for a second glass of wine , and the bar wasn't busy. In fact the 3 bartenders were working right in front of me, chatting and cleaning glasses. When I was finished with my entree, (delicious, large portion), no one paid me any attention for a long while. I made an effort to be looking up for engagement and not just have my face on my phone. It was weird, like they were trying to not notice me. I pushed my plate away. Still nothing for a good long while despite them having conversations while they were working on cleaning glasses etc right in front of me. I finally had to be more forward than I like to be, said I was done and would like tiramisu. When that came they left my dinner plate in front of me for a good long while , 10 minutes maybe (already asked and answered that I didn't want a box). All in all, a disappointing dining experience with good food. I've been to other restaurants at similar price points and have had lovely experiences at the bar and will return to those and not here. Unfortunate since I live near this one. I'll probably skip this when I'm with a group also. Total tab was $92 and I tipped $20 on that, despite the above. We've been here twice this year (2022) and both were terrific experiences. Each was on a Saturday evening and the place was packed (good thing we made reservations). The prices may appear high, but as many have said already, the portions tend to be substantial. I can eat quite a bit and the seafood alfredo required me to take half home (which made for a terrific work lunch on Monday)! One of the best features are the free appetizers (bread and pickled veggies). The bread is usually warm and the tables all of vinegar/oil so that you can make your own dipping sauce. We ate the first plate of bread so quickly (both times) that the waiter enthusiastically offered to bring a second round. That proved perfect for sopping up the sauces from our pasta dishes later (see pics)! Service was excellent both times, despite the crowds. And the waiter quickly boxed (and saran-wrapped) our leftovers both visits, so that nothing would leak or spill on the way home. Nice! Last, our favorite drink is their Sangria! Parking is easy/free - although crowded on Fri/Sat nights. Outdoor seating in their semi-covered patio is nice when not too hot/cold! read more

2 hours 39 minutes into the WORST experience of my life. We had a reservation for 6:30. Confirmed it earlier today. Arrived to find a group took our seats at 4:00 and are still there. It is now 7:33. We are 10 people stuck in a 6 person table. No one knows what is going on but the 4:00 group JUST started ordering dessert. This is totally uncalled for. UPDATE: Still no movement. Appears they have given up on moving the people from 4:00 who took our table for 10. They want us to have dinner at the "kids table" they threw together. Now 8:00. Management TOTALLY doesn't care about the customer experience. Try Renee's for a meal where they care about your reservation - and won't let this happen. Our party of ten is now down to 8. Plus order came out wrong to the kids table. On the other hand, quality of food was excellent. Not enough to overcome the total failure of management. Now they brought us more wine. Just put it on table. Didn't open it. Just brought it. So. Manager said "we told them they had to be done, but what else can we do?" Besides. Your small table is better than the table for 10. The saga continues. Now the assistant to the assistant manager came by to apologize because the party is STILL in our seats. We are still at the kids table. She was very nice. Offered nothing but excuses. Total fail. Next update: we nicely asked the group if they were told of our reservation. They confirmed they were told NOTHING of our reservation. So essentially management LIED to us as the customer. Fatal error. Are there stars below zero? UPDATE: Night manager did call later to say all charged for dinner had been reversed. Very nice gesture. However, still can't get over being lied to. I can understand a mistake - we all make them, but admit it. read more

Well what can i say good about our dinner last night. Not really anything. The food was just awful! There were eight of us and not a single person liked their meal. The seafood appetizer came with melted plastic in it from the doily under it. It's like it got microwaved and blew up. I knew immediately it was not good because of the extremely fishy smell coming from it. Then there were the clams. They had not been cleaned properly and were full of sand. Our waiter was really friendly and was trying his best but forgot drink orders and disappeared after food service only to show up with the ice tea that was ordered 45 minutes ago. He may have been assigned too many tables! The restaurant over books so there is always a lot of people waiting in the walkway to get in. My advice would be to not let them seat you anywhere near the entrance and front door. Better advice would be to wait until after the tourists leave in April to try this place. Upscale Italian Restaurant. We were there Thursday night around 6pm. We had reservations for 5. The ambiance was pleasant, yet the place was full and bustling. It was loud but our table was tucked away so it was good. Our waiter, an older gentleman was very attentive and gave us a wonderful experience. The food was outstanding with large portions. Our daughter in law said she had been there many years ago and remembering it be a good place even when she was younger. I sense by the quality of the food and the dedication of their staff, it is a family business with old school standards of excellence. We were here from the Palm Springs area visiting. From outside walking in there's some beautiful vines that cover the patio area which help in blocking out the view of the parking lot. I will say this use to be in my opinion one of the better Italian places in Tucson. It has not been that great the past several time I have been. Went there this evening and my chicken parm came out burnt. I sent it back, they scraped the cheese off it and brought me the same piece I had cut into with fresh cheese on it. Ok, fair enough tasted ok, at least it wasn't burnt. The single time our rather short mannered waiter came by for our only drink order of the evening he did not even take everyone at the tables drink order. Then our desert came out with a piece of lettuce in it. All in all this restaurant has been on a downhill slide for a while. This is now the last location. Wonderful meal and excellent service. My husband loves the peperonata - very good spicy (used to be complementary but now a minimal extra $2 - worth it) with the fresh crusty bread. He had fettuccine Alfredo with added shrimp. Very rich, filling and tasty. I had the spicy wedge salad with added grilled shrimp (extra $12). The serving size on the extra grilled shrimp (8-10 nice size shrimp for each of us, well worth the additional cost) Unfortunately, my spicy wedge wasn't spicy at all. I had it last time and loved the spice level. I was really looking forward to it and was very disappointed. Didn't taste special or spicy at all. Otherwise the salad was perfect, cold, nice size wedge with LOTS of bacon, cucumbers and carrots with just a little prosciutto.
