We came in for a fast dinner and had a wonderful experience. Food was delicious! We started with a couple apps, the calamari was amazing! We got a pepperoni for the kids and a lasagna pizza for the adults. Our food allergy kid enjoyed the chicken tenders- it was perfectly cooked and crisp! The cheesecake and lemon cake were reportedly very good as well. The food was great - however the most important part was our experience with the staff. In need of a quick sit down meal on a weeknight, I spontaneously popped into TJ's. Their menu online was detailed and confirmed that they had seating in addition to takeout. Perfect! I was seated immediately despite there being quite a crowd. I was impressed by the server's choice to seat me in a booth despite being a solo diner. She brought me my drink and the menu quickly and ran through the specials. My food arrived within minutes much to both my and the server's surprise. The salad was piled high with hot, grilled chicken (see pic) and was absolutely delicious. Despite every table being full, it wasn't all that noisy. My family and I have been coming here for quite a while and you seriously can't go wrong with anything here whether you order at the restaurant or to-go! For lunch I highly recommend the Tuscan chicken salad. For dinner I recommend grandmother's pizza or the penne ala vodka. Staff and ownership are very friendly and on top of their game! One time when picking up to-go they accidentally forgot to pack one of our items and the owner offered to drop it off at our house! You just don't get professionalism and service like that anymore!! Review is based on the salad. Very busy on Memorial Day at lunch time. We ordered two garden salads. One with chicken. The salads were very large and fresh. My chicken was piled high, piping hot and delicious. Peppercorn dressing was also very good. The girl at the register went out of her way to make sure my dressing was gluten free. The place was clean and had a very smart display of home cooked goods as soon as you walk in. The garlic knots and cinnamon knots looked incredible, along with the pizzas. The owner is very nice, but his staff is not great, therefore, making for a not so great experience. I go for their delicious salads...if they can get them right. There is mostly always an ingredient left out or the wrong ingredient put in. With a salad, you just can't get away with that. If you want your walnuts or cranberry's instead of the raisin's you need to get up yourself and ask for them, because your waitress ain't coming back until you are done so she can flip you table. I also had another incident where they used such strong chemicals to mop the floor around me because I was dining close to closing time. I literally almost pasted out from the smell and had to leave in the middle of my meal. I have mixed feels about sharing this because I really want them to work and be a staple in town but at the end of the day, in theory it such be a great place, but you really have to work hard to relax there. I ordered a small Hawaiian pizza and Texas fries. The pizza was okay, I would recommend more cheese and toppings. The Texas fries were way overpriced. Nothing more than fries with small amounts of cheese, beacon and peppers. This was my first and last time doing business with them. First time ordering from this place. Sooo disappointing. Cost $39.62 for 2 small pizzas that came in boxes small enough to hold one or maybe 2 regular slices of pizza. These pizzas would be perfect for small children because the slices were so small. Crust was hard and bacon and spinach overcooked. I called and spoke with a manager and he didn't even offer a partial refund. I could have ordered an 18" "the works" pizza from Big Y loaded with ingredients for $23.00 that would easily feed 4 people. Two of us went in for pasta at 2:30 today. The tables were dirty. We waited an eternity for two simple pasta dishes. The waitress was very friendly, but also very distracted. We never got any bread. When the meal was finally served, we asked for bread and she said, "sure, I'll put that right in for you." We ordered spaghetti and meatballs with sausage. When it finally came out, there were three meatballs and one sausage on top. We immediately discovered a very long, black hair baked right into one of the meatballs. I called the waitress back, and she already knew something was wrong. We pointed to the hair, and she shook her head and took the plate away. She came out literally two minutes later stating that they had re-made the food. This was a lie. They removed the offending meatball, and re-plated the pasta and the other two meatballs and one sausage. In other words, they simply removed the meatball with the hair from the food. When she brought the food back, she didn't bring a fork and then vanished. I finally had to get up and go get a fork from the hostess station. Then she came out with a basket of bread that literally had two tiny slices of bread and two slivers of pizza. There was more paper in the basket than bread. We were shocked to see the bill arrive with them not taking anything at all off for the hairy meatball. Moreover, no one even apologized for what happened. Overall, a dirty, unpleasant, and inhospitable experience. This place goes on the DNR list (Do Not Return)! Update: We were both sick as dogs all day today. I have no idea what was going on in that kitchen, but there's obviously problems there... read more

We were driving through Connecticut and after trying some places in New Haven and NYC on our way through we stopped for gas in cozy Old Saybrook. We asked a local where we should stop and get something to eat. They directed us to TJ's. It was a busy spot and clearly a local favorite! The staff and owner, Nick, were extremely nice and our order was ready upon arrival! We got a plain cheese pie and a "Gramma" by recommendations of the locals. The pizza was EXACTLY how we like it thin, crispy & full of flavor! The Gramma pizza may be one of my favorite pizzas we have ever tried! We will certainly be back our next time in town! read more

We ordered mozzarella sticks, potato skins, a roast beef wrap and vegetarian sandwich. All were excellent. They was so much food we had left overs. I have a gluten allergy and there were plenty of items to choose from. They offer gluten free rolls and bread which made ordering simple. We didn't try the pizza because it didn't show gluten free options on the menu, but we didn't ask either. We will definitely order from TJ's again.
