    Flor de Calabaza Quesadilla
    Gabrielle T.

Muy picante, bebé! I was burned out on nearby Las Panchitas and happened upon Taqueria Picante about a month ago. Craving a quick lil' somethin', I ordered arroz y frijoles con aguacate y una horchata grande (rice and beans with avocado and a huge, ginormous, supersized, ridiculous horchata). Maybe you just gave up on this review, assuming I'm not exactly qualified to speak on a restaurant's quality if all I ordered was a side of rice and beans. Puh-leez. It took a few trips al Picante but I eventually wizened up and noticed a cute chalkboard sign for their Flor de Calabaza quesadilla, a gooey mixture of pumpkin flowers (or zucchini? I've read different descriptions so I'll leave that detail to the experts) and cheese in a fried corn tortilla. The Flor de Calabaza quesadillas are smaller than Picante's traditional quesadilla on a flour tortilla because the flores editions are made with corn tortillas. But there is no sacrifice in flavor and the richness of the veggies and cheese easily make up for the difference in size. They also stock some of my favorite Latin candies and cookies, including La Molienda's Mix Nut granola bars, which I have no desire to resist anytime soon. Oh, and they make out-of-this-world fresh squeezed juice that rival any store-bought sampling. On top of their bomb food and reasonable prices, every staff member I've met is friendly and always eager to help or answer questions. Finding a good taqueria is like finding a soulmate, or a four-leaf clover, or a good parking spot downtown in the middle of a holiday rush. It's no small feat and I would never take it lightly. So when I say Taqueria Picante is definitely worth trying, just trust me. I gotchu.

Everyone loved the food , the flavor on the meat was very good. everything was steaming hot.

We went and bought food for a party we had at home. the food was awesome. for 30 people they gave us plenty of food. everything was hot and the flavor they carry is very good. highly recommend them if you are in the 0 to 10 mile radius from TAQUERIA PICANTE. Support your local mom and Pops businesses. we at our church and our WFG business really like this establishment and will help this family to prosper.

Hole-in-the-wall gem! We have tried many Mexican restaurants and taquerias in the East Bay and beyond, and wow, this one is about as authentic as it gets. Every time we have been here they did not disappoint. Sure, it might be located in a hard-to-find location and with insane parking, but trust me, it is worth it once you get inside and have some of the food. The last time I was here, I ordered a pollo asado quesadilla and my wife ordered two carne asada tacos. They arrived in a timely manner and were cooked to perfection. Everything was so delicious that we came back again the next day for more. Their chips also have a good flavor and we LOVE their avocado salsa! Just typing out this review is already making me hungry for more. This is a family-run business and the owner is super friendly and accommodating. He checked on us frequently to make sure our food was good and asked us if we needed anything. He also played the accordion during a slow time at the restaurant, and wow, he is pretty talented! I can't wait to return to this taqueria and try some of their other offerings. I would HIGHLY recommend you come try their food. You will not be disappointed!

We do takeout here regularly, but one incident really gave us a bad taste. They had both of our take out orders wrong. We asked for two steak (Suadero) taco plates but was provided w pork (which I don't eat). When called to let them know, the guy that took my order tried to tell me we are wrong bc the cook said he put in steak. "Maybe you can't tell the difference". Been eating meat 35 yrs of my life dork! I can tell the difference between pork and beef. For starters, try, how about, "we are sorry!" While w enjoyed the food there in the past, there are many places that are just as good so we won't be going back in the foreseeable future.

We ordered from this place all the time. Never had any problem with the order, food is good. This time i ordered carne asada fries and a large horchata. Order comes, and immediately I see that it's not the horchata that I orderer. Open the food, and my carne asada fries didn't come with the usual sour cream or pico degallo or any jalapenos. I wouldn't have been so pissed about the drink if it weren't for the fact that the pineapple aguas fresca they changed my Horchata to, tastes nothing like pineapple. On top of that, they left out half of the ingredients in the carne asada fries. Wowww...never ordering from this place again.

Feeling great even a day after Argentina beat Chile, and feeling even better by casting my vote for Bernie in the primaries, I was on the search for someplace new to eat at. Driving around Pittsburg, I came upon this new restaurant. Curiosity took over and I said, "Why not? I'm down for some tacos." Taco Tuesday deal: $1.00 for any kind of talk. Just 50 cents off from the original price. Still fairly cheap. $1.25 for a Crush orange soda. The service I got was so good. The gentleman who took my order was kind. Repeated my order, offered me the specials, made sure all the toppings are to my liking, and even gave me some complimentary chips and salsa when I told him I was eating for here. Let's start with those chips. A bit overdone for me. But that was forgotten when I dipped them in the salsa. WHEW that salsa was so nice. Fresh, cold on the tip of my tongue, and then spicy as it hits my tastebuds. Beef soft taco and pork taco were so juicy. The meet was cooked well. Loved the way the onions and the chives helped make the juices of the meat be more. Like just more. Top three places I would go to get tacos (not including Mexico itself.) Delighted by this place and the quality of food! 4.5/5 (round up to 5)

Rice filled super burrito for $11 bucks! Definitely not worth it and the guy handed it over with a smile, How disgusting was that! I literally tried to give it a chance, but every single bite was filled with rice! No meat, pico. I couldn't imagine the beans if I'd didn't have it removed. It would've been a bean and rice "Toilet bowl" ready time.. I was expecting quality but I seriously believe they service "Different Races" differently!

They have really good customer service and really good food. It's up to my standards. I did ask them to not put any type of spice on my mom's order. The chef was super nice to go above and beyond to make my taco salad. Super yummy. Their surf and turf is affordable too. Super thick burrito too.

Unfortunately the reviews were right. All rice and not much else.

Unfortunately the previous reviews were correct. A $10 burrito with way too much rice and not much else.

Just please slow down a bit and don't make people feel rushed to leave. And also the tops to our to go lids did not fit our server knew that and we HAD TO ASK for different lids and she said "oh we normally use foil sheets" so then why not bring the foil sheets out to us to use? And when we did order our desert we asked for the CARAMEL churros and she brings us it with Chocolate....when I asked for the caramel and not the chocolate she said "oh we don't have caramel, but it still says that on the menu" not even really an apology either to that. I did start out to give this a 4 start but due to the experience of feeling rushed, I'm giving it a 3 star. Food again was cooked so so well! Yea after careful consideration and not being the only one who noticed lol this place is kinda racist. It was VERY obvious how my mother in law and i were treated compared to the other customers. I must admit I was jealous of her tacos as they were still unbroken after removing them from the wrap they're served in because it seems every time I've ordered their crispy tacos the shell always breaks open and splits at the bottom. Very disappointing. The taco salad was very tasty with all of my favorites included. We enjoy eating here and my only real complaint is their carne asada soft taco that comes filled with whole pinto beans besides the meat. I don't understand this and to me it really doesn't add to the taco. I didn't know they served them like this or I would have requested no to the beans and I love whole and refried beans, but not in my tacos! Their restaurant is colorful with wonderfully painted or printed images of Mexican life. The staff always seem quite friendly and they are usually very busy. Plus they serve carveza! Their salsa bar doesn't do it for me though, whats supposed to be their mild, Pico de Gallo is too liquidity and as much as I use to enjoy spicy food my 68 y/o body just cannot tolerate it anymore, especially on the way out one day I hope to order their anaconda burrito to share with some friends

I love this place, but this visit absolutely sealed the deal all over again…read more We ordered the carne asada super burrito and it was perfection. It was packed with flavorful, juicy meat and had the ideal ratio of beans, rice, and cheese -- every bite was balanced and satisfying. No skimpy filling here. Just a beautifully built burrito done right. The chips and guacamole were just as impressive. The chips came out hot, thin, and perfectly fresh -- that light crisp that shatters just right. The guacamole tasted bright and fresh, clearly made with care and real ingredients. We also tried the pastor torta, and wow. It was loaded with tender, well-seasoned meat, and the bread was soft, fresh, and toasted perfectly. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside -- exactly how a torta should be. Every component worked together so well. And the piña agua fresca? Super fresh and refreshing -- the perfect complement to everything we ordered. We come here often, but this time we switched it up and tried the burrito -- and it did not disappoint. This is easily one of the best taquerias in town. Consistently delicious, generous portions, and clearly made with pride. We'll definitely be back (soon!) to try the quesabirria. So grateful to have a spot like this in town.

I usually call my order in ahead of time, but yesterday a gentleman answered, put me on hold, and never came back to the phone. I ended up driving there and ordering three super carne asada burritos with no pico. The order was simple, and I paid $52. When I got home, all three burritos turned out to be regular burritos with only rice, beans, and meat. They were missing the ingredients that make them "super." I immediately called the restaurant, and the girl at the front--who already knows me because we're regular customers and we've had previous issues with incorrect orders and her attitude--answered the phone. Instead of apologizing or trying to resolve the issue, she became defensive. She told me to bring the burritos back, but it was already late and I wasn't going to drive back out. She then said she was going to check the security cameras to see whether the cooks had added the ingredients, which made me feel like she was accusing me of lying. The problem wasn't just the incorrect order--it was how I was treated. Good customer service means listening to customers and handling mistakes professionally, not becoming hostile when someone calls about an order they paid for but didn't receive correctly. I hope the owner has an opportunity to see this review, as I'd like this feedback to help improve the customer experience. I truly wanted to continue supporting this business, but after multiple incorrect orders and the way this situation was handled, I won't be returning. My picture is below for reference.
