Solid Mexican food here. That's what I craved today, and me and my sister decided to give this place a try. It's located on Railroad Ave, and the parking is a little tight. I went for the regular torta, while my sister went for the 3 Flautas dinner. Additionally, we got some tacos, which is a must try at any Mexican spot Torta Regular: It's yummy. The reason I gave a 4 star is because of the presentation: the bread. The portion was awesome: it's a large torta. The bread was crumbly though, so the torta broke down a bit as I ate it. I went with Asada meat, which was cooked perfectly. Accompanied by tomatoes, lettuce, mayo and jalapeños, it was overall good. 3 Flautas Plate Dinner: Though it was my sister's plate, she shared some bites with me. That's a 5/5 for sure. Rice and beans are awesome, and the Flautas, smothered with cream and lettuce. The sides delivered very well on the $9 plate. Tacos: Meh. Just ordered food from DoorDash . Let me preface by saying that they let you add notes , so , I added notes . It did not have the option to add chips or salsa . So I put in notes to add salsa on the side with the burritos (didn't come) . Usually , if there is no chips option , chips are included . No chips . I ordered a tostada ceviche, super nachos , and 3 rice beans and CHEESE burritos . All 3 RbC burritos had no cheese . Literally none . Pittsburg has a lot of Mexican restaurants, but this new little spot has been a go to for a quick, easy and cheap lunch for my office. Great for lunch under $10 and ready within 10 minutes or so. I've had the shrimp and fish tacos which are only $2.50 each or the regular (meat) for $1.50; seriously guys my lunch are about $5 normally. I'd like to try some of their other dishes, but I get full easily off a few tacos and it's a perfect small meal. Muy picante, bebé! I was burned out on nearby Las Panchitas and happened upon Taqueria Picante about a month ago. Craving a quick lil' somethin', I ordered arroz y frijoles con aguacate y una horchata grande (rice and beans with avocado and a huge, ginormous, supersized, ridiculous horchata). Maybe you just gave up on this review, assuming I'm not exactly qualified to speak on a restaurant's quality if all I ordered was a side of rice and beans. Puh-leez. It took a few trips al Picante but I eventually wizened up and noticed a cute chalkboard sign for their Flor de Calabaza quesadilla, a gooey mixture of pumpkin flowers (or zucchini? I've read different descriptions so I'll leave that detail to the experts) and cheese in a fried corn tortilla. The Flor de Calabaza quesadillas are smaller than Picante's traditional quesadilla on a flour tortilla because the flores editions are made with corn tortillas. But there is no sacrifice in flavor and the richness of the veggies and cheese easily make up for the difference in size. They also stock some of my favorite Latin candies and cookies, including La Molienda's Mix Nut granola bars, which I have no desire to resist anytime soon. Oh, and they make out-of-this-world fresh squeezed juice that rival any store-bought sampling. On top of their bomb food and reasonable prices, every staff member I've met is friendly and always eager to help or answer questions. Finding a good taqueria is like finding a soulmate, or a four-leaf clover, or a good parking spot downtown in the middle of a holiday rush. It's no small feat and I would never take it lightly. Hole-in-the-wall gem! We have tried many Mexican restaurants and taquerias in the East Bay and beyond, and wow, this one is about as authentic as it gets. Every time we have been here they did not disappoint. Sure, it might be located in a hard-to-find location and with insane parking, but trust me, it is worth it once you get inside and have some of the food. The last time I was here, I ordered a pollo asado quesadilla and my wife ordered two carne asada tacos. They arrived in a timely manner and were cooked to perfection. Everything was so delicious that we came back again the next day for more. Their chips also have a good flavor and we LOVE their avocado salsa! Just typing out this review is already making me hungry for more. This is a family-run business and the owner is super friendly and accommodating. He checked on us frequently to make sure our food was good and asked us if we needed anything. He also played the accordion during a slow time at the restaurant, and wow, he is pretty talented! We do takeout here regularly, but one incident really gave us a bad taste. They had both of our take out orders wrong. We asked for two steak (Suadero) taco plates but was provided w pork (which I don't eat). When called to let them know, the guy that took my order tried to tell me we are wrong bc the cook said he put in steak. "Maybe you can't tell the difference". Been eating meat 35 yrs of my life dork! I can tell the difference between pork and beef. For starters, try, how about, "we are sorry!" Feeling great even a day after Argentina beat Chile, and feeling even better by casting my vote for Bernie in the primaries, I was on the search for someplace new to eat at. Driving around Pittsburg, I came upon this new restaurant. Curiosity took over and I said, "Why not? I'm down for some tacos." Taco Tuesday deal: $1.00 for any kind of talk. Just 50 cents off from the original price. Still fairly cheap. $1.25 for a Crush orange soda. The service I got was so good. The gentleman who took my order was kind. Repeated my order, offered me the specials, made sure all the toppings are to my liking, and even gave me some complimentary chips and salsa when I told him I was eating for here. Let's start with those chips. A bit overdone for me. But that was forgotten when I dipped them in the salsa. WHEW that salsa was so nice. Fresh, cold on the tip of my tongue, and then spicy as it hits my tastebuds. Beef soft taco and pork taco were so juicy. The meet was cooked well. Loved the way the onions and the chives helped make the juices of the meat be more. Like just more. Top three places I would go to get tacos (not including Mexico itself.) We ordered from this place all the time. Never had any problem with the order, food is good. This time i ordered carne asada fries and a large horchata. Order comes, and immediately I see that it's not the horchata that I orderer. Open the food, and my carne asada fries didn't come with the usual sour cream or pico degallo or any jalapenos. I wouldn't have been so pissed about the drink if it weren't for the fact that the pineapple aguas fresca they changed my Horchata to, tastes nothing like pineapple. Ok WOW! THIS restaurant just keeps on giving and the giving is good. We returned to get our Molcajete fix on and it was just as great if not better than the first time we went. The customer attentiveness and service is by far what every customer needs to experience. During this visit- a lady approached our table and thanked us for our yelp reviews- which was a shock to us considering we had not met her before (turned out she was one of the owners). We came to this place because there weren't a lot of Mexican establishments open on Memorial Day weekend in Pittsburg. Ordered a super wet burrito, super meaning that it comes with guacamole, sour cream, and onions to distinguish it from a regular burrito. Was supposed to be drenched in mole sauce. It didn't come with guacamole, but it did have some nice slices of avocado on top (okay, no points deducted for that because it's definitely a reasonable substitution). Sour cream? Check. Onions? Order delivery because we are moving and exhausted. My husband did not want to order from chipotle even though they deliver for $1 instead of $6something. On top of that it took FOREVER to find any Mexican place that delivers that even offered the option of no meat, and yet, when I finally found a place that would even consider not serving meat in their tacos they were stuffed with chicken. I order two sides of guacamole and one of beans and got two small sides of beans. All aspects of the dish were great, loved the carne, the chicken, the nopales, cheese, shrimp, onions, it was quite the combo, and one of the better ones I've ever had. Just found out about Picante Taqueria thru the Yelp App. Our usual and most favorite restaurant had recently closed, so the Wife and I were looking for another local Mexican restaurant with authentic food. We went there on a Sunday afternoon and ordered the Carne Asada burritos To go. The place is very small, I think only 4-5 tables, but that was the only draw back. The food Is very very good., absolutely nothing bad to say about the quality, or portions. Authentic and as fresh as fresh can be. Liked the complimentary warm chips and six different choices of Sauce. Family owned and very friendly. Prices are right for what you get. Yikes, had a very unpleasant experience today. I ordered a steak quesadilla and got a soggy chicken quesidilla. It was dripping with liquid. I also ordered 2 chicken tacos they were soggy as well and had rancid slimy cilantro on top. They couldn't even be picked up because the corn tortilla just fell apart because it was so water logged. And lastly I ordered a super chicken burrito. It was mostly rice and didn't have sour cream, cheese or guacamole. The food that was edible barely had any flavor. This was a nice little place to stop and have lunch with my dad. While they only spoke Spanish to me at the register, perhaps because they thought I was Hispanic, we were able to get exactly what we ordered with no issue. The food was good, but I'd highly recommend the carne asada fries. I can't even remember anything else we ordered because I passed them on to my dad and focused on my fries. I ate just about all of them by myself, being sure to offer my dad a few just out of politeness. I promise, I would have eaten every one of them. You all should know by now how I feel about potatoes.
