Had a good pizza plus seafood pasta here recently, along with classic Eggplant Parm appetizer. We tried a half red, half white sausage pie. Very tasty. Seafood medley pasta came with lobster, shrimp and crab over angel hair pasta. My wife thought this was delicious and had multiple meals out of it. It's around $30. The Eggplant Parm had layers of eggplant, cheese and a tasty tomato sauce. Good as always. We finished with some chocolate covered cannoli for dessert. It was good. I was able to get a spot out front on West Chester Pike near the takeout entrance. There's also a private parking lot. Pickup was friendly and I didn't have to wait very long. read more

I've been going to Picas since I was a kid growing up 2 blocks from the restaurant. We had our Beverly Hills eighth grade dance dinner there, my parents, sister and I used to go there regularly for dinner. The chicken Parm, the pizza, the mozzarella sticks were all amazing. I had my first alcoholic drink from their bar. (fake ID) lol me and my girlfriend continued to have dates there whenever we were in the neighborhood. What better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of SNL than with a visit to our very own Tina Fey's favorite pizza jawn? I'd be lying I said Tina's influence didn't inspire me to check out Pica's, but it's also a well-earned, well-loved Delco establishment, so I was thrilled to finally see what the fuss was all about. Pica's opens at 12pm on Sundays, so you bet your dollar I was parking my car in the spacious lot at 12:05pm. I anticipated a post-church lunch rush, but was pleased to see that there weren't too many folks with the same idea I had. The menu is one to please all - lots of options, but not too many options. Pastas, salads - the usual Italian lineups. I had to opt for a pizza, and I couldn't pass up the Burrata special on the limited time Valentine's menu. My friend and I split the appetizer and a small, plain pizza (8 sold slices!). To my surprise, they have a full bar with wine, beer, and cocktails, but I stuck to water. The burrata appetizer was served on a messy bed of iceberg lettuce. It wasn't the most visually appealing thing I've ever seen in my life, but it tasted good. Hard to mess up cheese! The pizza was made fresh, so we had about a 20 minute wait - which I didn't mind at all. It arrived tableside, and it's didn't take too long for us to savor the entire pie. The food is affordable and the pizza is tasty. Next time, maybe I'll opt for some fun toppings. The waitstaff was dear and attentive. This place looks like it hasn't been updated in decades - and I LOVED it! I would totally come back to Pica's for another sitdown experience, but I do understand the allure of takeout. Let me put it this way. I don't know if they've changed or if my palate has changed. 10 years ago I loved them. Today I just kind of liked it. The sauce on the top makes it stand out. The problem is, the sauce seems to lack a truly distinct flavor. It comes off to me slightly on the harsh side instead of a subtle sweetness. And the crust is now on the chewy side with a little crunch, but it balances too far to the chewy side to me. This is my opinion. I know a lot of people love it. Pica's has a good reputation for a reason. But I'm now here to say the pizza may not be for everyone. read more

I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed Pica's! I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting, but it exceeded those expectations. We started off with the escarole soup and the arugula & roasted beet salad. Both were terrific. The soup had flavors layered over one another and it wasn't too hot! I didn't have to sit there for ages waiting on it to cool down. But that salad, oh man. Arugula, roasted beets, mozzarella, toasted almonds, and a honey mustard dressing. Terrific. You better like beets, tho. It is very beet forward. The pizza. Yup. Liked it. Quite a bit. The sausage was dope. Evidently they de-case mild and hot Italian sausage, blend it, and throw it on the pizza. It has some spice, which I like! I would order pizza from Pica's as takeaway. I liked it that much. I'm not entirely sure what it is... Could it be that I'm not an Italian-American and now I am living in an area of the country where Italian-American culture is ubiquitous and people just know what they're doing up here? Could be. Tomato Pie Review. My Norristown office put together a happy hour for its far flung legal empire at Von C Brewery, the superlative beermeisters resuming the historic Schmitz's tradition for the Philadelphia region. These guys focus exclusively on suds and leave the eats to their customers. Wise move. For this after work celebration, one of our people who commutes from Upper Darby, brought with her two boxes of double cut straight Tomato Pie for our consumption and enjoyment. For those who aren't familiar, Philly Tomato Pie is a staple around here. It is deceptively simple, with a medium thickness crust, covered in well spiced tomato puree. You can add whatever you wish, but the basic TP is the gold standard. Double cut and served cold, it is easy to pick up a square and eat it in two or three bites as the perfect accompaniment to the excellent lager or Pilsner on the Von C curated list of fermentations. Picas TP was delicious, with well prepared and somewhat airy dough and a strong tomato top. I ate far more than intended, and won the lottery to take the remains home to the family. This is definitely a place for the family especially those who have lived in the area for generations. I'm sure the same people have been going to this restaurant for years I feel a certain comfort. I say that because the decor is dated but clean and it has a feel reminiscent of the Collegeville Inn in the 1970s. The entrance or foyer is beautifully decorated with harvest time decorations pumpkins corn orange browns and yellows, well done! We were greeted by the hosts and seated shortly there after Survey came and introduced herself. We were handed several papers that were the menus the confusing thing is the so-called seasonal menu had the same exact items on a regular menu at the same exact price?? Waste of paper and time not to mention confusing. I had chicken Parmesan my husband had the meat lasagna the food is really nothing to speak of. I chicken Parm although the chicken was a nice size the flavor and texture of the spaghetti noodles they were gummy all reminded me of a middle school lunch. Would I go back? NOPE! read more

The white pizza is tolerable, I like the rectangular shape but it is so greasy. I love this place! Been going here since I was a baby and it hasn't changed a bit! Their sausage and plain cheese pizzas are my personal favorite pizzas and they even made it on the tonight show. Service is a little slow on weekends but on weekdays its rather fast, even when its slow its always worth it. They really have some sweet mood settings and it feels like you are in the 80s, that's the only way I can seriously describe it, you have to check it out for yourself. read more

The pizza gets a thumbs up from me. No, it's not as good as my all time favorite (Gearo's!!) but it actually comes pretty close. I like the texture of their crust and the fact that their sauce is just a little bit sweet. Despite being sauce-on-cheese style they have not burnt my mouth up yet, something I find happens to often with other places. The pizzas could stand to be a larger size, especially for the price, but it's fine. The only other thing I've had is their mozzarella sticks which were good, no complaints. There meatballs hoagie was much better could use little bit more of salt n pepper that goes for tomato sauce too. Provolone cheese was excellent. Their so called Italian hoagie is just crap. They need dump all their sandwiches items, maybe keep chicken parm sandwiches i heard it is very good. There are four pizzerias restaurants that do better and i strongly suggest trying there hoagies. Service ambiance is great. However no self respecting Italian restaurant put out crap for Italian hoagie. Only item was good was the roll. Deli meats zero flavor extremely bland n the dressing used?, must be a mystery i couldn't find any or taste it. Really? This crap. The staff here is great. They all wear masks and seat everyone at a distance for our safety. The food here is amazing! The bread service here is quite unique. It comes with butter, cheese, and peppers. Amazing. For the first time in my life I accidentally filled up on bread. We started with the mozzarella sticks which were fried to perfection. The cheese inside was nice and gooey. Paired with the red sauce this is one of my favorite appetizers. The small pizza here is enough to feed two. I love that they layer the sauce on top of the cheese. This keeps the dough from getting wet when you reheat it for your next meal. (Trust me there will be leftovers, the portions are huge) Stuffed shells are a solid pick, the shells are stuffed to the max. These shells are the size of a grenade. A flavor grenade! The cannoli makes the perfect finish to a perfect meal. I see why Tina Fey lives this place! read more

If you grew up in Delaware County with Pica's, chances are you are a diehard fan. If you are new to Pica's and have experienced good Italian food, I am going to say Pica's isn't your thing. The food isn't bad or unpleasant, but there isn't anything to distinguish it from any other regular Italian restaurant in the area. The pizza is pretty mediocre in my opinion. Good, but nothing to rave about. Pastas, like fettuccini alfredo, are tasty but not memorable. The portions are a bit underwhelming for the price, too. The service isn't great either for dining in or carry out. No one has been unpleasant, but no one has seemed eager to go out of their way to make the experience an above average one. When I have eaten in the dining rooms, it reminds me of eating at grandma's and not in a good way. The restaurant could definitely use an upgrade. If you live in Delaware County, I would recommend Felini's in Media for pasta any day over Pica's. And, Philadelphia is just 25 minutes away for much better Italian food. read more

Known for their upside down pizza the restaurant is usually packed for their classic American Italian entrees. Full bar and wine selection. Give Joan a raise. She is the sweetest waitress ever and we love her!!! Went here last night for some food and wine. Joan was on point with drinks, food, everything- she had us covered! We started with drinks, salads & motz sticks. Their salad with the creamy Italian & the motz sticks are to die for. So freaking GOOD. I got the eggplant parm & my fiancé got the seafood Alfredo (I think, it had scallops crab and shrimp) both were sooooo good! Absolutely love their eggplant parm. Surprisingly the angel hair pasta on the side wasn't too good but everything else was magical. What we didn't get but also love at picas is the pizza! Next time... Lasagna was good. Food look well prepared. I don't eat Italian too often but was not let down

I finally made it into Pica's after years of recommendations. When you walk in the Upper Darby Location, it's an establishment that doesn't look they have changed much in about 40 years. It's a very old school, non pretentious vibe which I liked. I might be in the minority but I felt the pizza was underwhelming. The pizza sauce and overall flavor just didn't do it for me. They serve a square style, similar to another local favorite in the city that I feel overall is much better. As far as other food items, they have a full menu but I didn't get a chance to sample anything else, I came for the pizza alone. In the end, I will say that the service was tremendous. I would prob give them another shot on this alone. read more

I will caveat this review by saying this was a to-go order (like most things are these days...). But we did not have a good experience at all! We have not found a good Italian restaurant in the area so we're trying a bunch of places and Pica's came up in our search. Maybe this is more of a pizza place? Because the Italian dishes we ordered were highly disappointing. We got fried calamari, chicken marsala, and a seafood pasta. The calamari were overcooked, a little soggy (this I understand since it's takeout), and the side of marinara came in a little plastic cup that was half melted! Did they microwave it in the plastic??? The marsala sauce was okay, but the chicken was pretty bland. And it came with a baked potato instead of the pasta it says on the menu. The seafood pasta was also not great, as the seafood was consistently overcooked. There seem to be a lot of good review here for Pica's so not sure if we just got them on a bad night or if we made a mistake by not just ordering pizza... Either way it was a very disappointing meal overall, and we will be continuing our quest for decent Italian food elsewhere. read more

Such an interesting place. I had never been before but this place always comes up in conversations when discussing local pizza places. My wife recently was talking with some coworkers and texted me saying, we have got to try it. I did a quick little Yelp search (as always) and boom, there it was. It was conveniently located on my way home, I stopped in and grabbed a beer while I waited for my pizza order to cook. It came out quickly and was hot and accurately made. I'm excited to say we added Pica's to our list of places we are going to get pizza and dine in. The restaurant was a bit dated but I'm not eating the decor so who cares really? Across from the pizza area they had a small case with loads of desserts. I didn't try them but they did look delicious so I'm going to remember to save some room when I dine in. Unique, really good pizza, with the cheese under the sauce (I think?!), somewhat thick, and shaped like a rectangle. It's my current favorite in the area both for flavor and texture. I always get the broccoli rabe side because it seems healthy (as well as yummy). read more

First time ordering via Yelp since I was not in the mood to cook and was craving some calamari. Order got here on time but they didn't let me know with a call as requested on my order, so it sat in my lobby getting cold. My biggest peeve with delivery orders is that business fail to provide napkins and utensils. Why? If I'm ordering out I need the whole package. Am I supposed to eat with my fingers?! If I'm ordering delivering it's for a reason 1. I'm not cooking and 2. Not washing dishes. I can't get over this!!! I'm spending $30 and you can't provide utensils and napkins?!!!! 2 stars off for that!!! The food was ok nothing to rave about. Calamari was ok but because I wasn't told it was here it sat and got soggy. The sausage was good I really enjoyed the sauce. The escarole soup was just ok. I have been getting pizzas at this location since I was 16 yrs old. That is well over 50 years. I always gave them 5 Stars. I had a really pathetic pizza about 2 months ago but didn't review them because I figured it may just be a bad night. Last night I ordered a small pepperoni well done. "Pathetic" would have been a compliment! I have never seen a slice of pepperoni that I could see thru!!!!!! The pizza sauce was also not the same. In my lifetime when we ordered pizza there was never any left over. The last two pizzas we threw over half of them out! I figure the children took over the business because it happens sometimes! We've only been going to Pica's for about 15 years (mere babes compared to a lot of folks) but we absolutely love it. What I especially love is that the flavors haven't changed; everything I loved 15 years ago is still just as delicious now. Even post-pandemic they've maintained a large menu and decent hours, unlike many other restaurants. Some will be upset that a choice of soup or salad is no longer included with an entrée, but because their soup choices are usually escarole and clam chowder, and I'm not one who is big on a basic, rabbit food salad, I'm perfectly fine with it. I am sorry that their Caprese salad seems to no longer be offered (even though it sometimes suffered from seeming to have been made in advance and kept too cold in a refrigerator), because the balsamic vinaigrette drizzled on it is delicious, having a rather fruity flavor to it. I'm afraid I have to admit that neither my husband nor I have ever strayed (to the best of my recollection) from pasta for our entrées but in our defense it's because it's just that good. We did once try the squash ravioli in browned butter one autumn, and it was out of this world. I've also been on a meatball sandwich kick lately, because when you get a good one, they are fantastic. I am told by somebody who knows more about cooking than I that what I mean by a good one is fresh meatballs, ones that practically fall apart when touched with a fork, and that the other meatballs (that I describe as clay) are frozen ones. I don't think we've ever encountered a rude host or server, and the place has never failed to delight us with their holiday and seasonal decorations. Seriously, on that last part. It isn't difficult, but we will make a point of going to Pica's so that we can enjoy the decorations -- we even managed to snag a picture with Santa there, once! Besides, the usually dense meatballs, (at least in the Upper Darby location), my only gripes with the place are these: first, sometimes, especially late in the dinner hours, if you order what seems to be one of the more popular pasta shape choices, the pasta tastes/feels "old" and waterlogged. If you order, what seems to be one of the less popular pasta shapes, (again, especially if it is late in their dinner hours), you may get, a very meager serving. Second, never get the takeout pasta when they're doing a fundraiser for Upper Darby library. If you do, you'll just get a waterlogged brick of pasta dough. I think it would be better to just donate directly to the library. I need to end this review on a pleasant note, so I will just advise you to go treat yourself to a wonderful meal in Pica's cozy, homey but not homely Upper Darby location. read more
