I love this place. The owner(s) is very kind and very passionate about her trade. This butchery pre pandemic only used to supply to local and national restaurants however changed their business model to provide for individual consumers during and post the pandemic lockdown. Perhaps their price points are a dollar per pound/lbs higher than other butcheries around, but the consideration and knowledge of the cuts and preparation methods more than make up for this difference. I.E. I stopped by to purchase some bone marrow to treat my partner to a nice snack. Without prompt or hesitation I was asked how I intended to use the marrow. I wanted to roast them canoe style to eat with bread, and immediately was rewarded with center cut shanks. These little details matter in the end. Everything they prepare for you is vacuumed seal in freezer safe packaging, sometimes there is cheese and snacks (AND AMAZING BUTTER) while you wait for your order. I haven't read any of the reviews of this place prior to writing this post. I literally just walked by this shop and went in and got to know- at least- everyone who works the front of the shop. Owner and staff are super friendly and happy to converse with you about what you want to make or provide helpful suggestions if you're not sure on preparation methods etc. I am a huge fan. read more

I've been coming here quite regularly now. I hope people realize that many of the negative reviews were written during the early days of the pandemic. Piccinini was formerly only supplying restaurants and then started selling to the general public. I prefer to shop in person since it's just easier for me to plan as I go. The staff are friendly and they have a little display counter with prepackaged cuts of some of their popular requests. The aged steak looks amazing. Their prices are very good and the quality is excellent. Usually I pop in and place my order, then let them know I'll be back in 20 or so minutes. I am also very sad to say that my experience is nearly identical to the first review - from the reason why I ordered to repeated follow-up attempts. Just sucks because I included as a part of my order food for a elderly neighbor that she was relying upon receiving. If I had known it would not have been delivered, I could have purchased a substitute when I went to the supermarket earlier in the week. At the time of writing this review, it has only been 4 days since my order was placed. I noticed the delivery criteria and order amount thresholds have changed since my order was initially placed which suggests that they are processing orders and iterating as they go. Still, based upon this first review, I doubt I will receive my order any time soon but will update this review if I do. There is a huge discrepancy between how they say online orders will be handed (charge only happens once meat is weighed) and how it occurs in reality (as soon as you place order). Update it's 4/21, still no response from them after many many attempts. 20 days since my order was placed. If you can't handle orders take down the online order while you fill old orders. There's not going to be a shortage of people wanting to buy. We'll be in this till June! Ordered online to help out this local business on April 1. The meat was to be for my elderly parents who I did not want to go to the stores.. Emailed them 7x and no response. They took my money and never delivered or sent me status of my order. Finally received my order yesterday evening after placing it on April 1st (two weeks later). I had to reach out to the # on the site countless times. When I first reached out to see if I would be notified when my order would be coming, they were not able to confirm. It does seem they are overwhelmed with orders. Like many of the reviewers here, I placed an order online, only mine was placed on April 6th. As of Wednesday, I had not received an update, so I called the number on the email I had received on Monday summarizing my order. I was actually able to get through to someone on Wednesday. They said they were overwhelmed, but assured me my order would be on the truck on Friday. It was not. I tried repeatedly to contact them on Friday, and again this morning, but have had no luck. As a caveat, I've never ordered from Piccinini using their online platform. I have only experienced in person shopping. What a welcome addition to the neighborhood! I've purchased something on average once a week, trying out different cuts and meats they have to offer. So far have tried chicken liver, chicken breasts, chicken thighs, sweet Italian sausage, and ground beef. The quality has been top notch, and pricing is very very competitive. I shared the filet mignon with my father and he also commented on how tasty it was! I shop local as often as possible and normally would say that I love Piccininis. In fact I have shopped there for the last few years since the pandemic, and buy all my meats there for a family of 4. It's a block from my house. I buy large quantities at a time which I freeze immediately after. My last purchase was around a month ago which included 3 separate packages of ground turkey among other things that I bought. When I defrosted and unpackaged 1 lb, the smell was terrible. I then checked the other 2 packages in the freezer and they too had a strange smell, I could sniff a hint of it through the plastic. When I returned the packages to the store, the staff let me know that the meat was in fact rotten as they could see some mold circles through the packaging. No replacement was offered, and no explanation given other than I had to have come back within 2 days of purchase to return the items. I am highly disappointed that this happened in the first place, and question their cleanliness and adherence to food handling at the store. While the money was not what I was after, the experience and lack of customer service has left me saddened and I will not be recommending nor purchasing any meat items from this store again. The meat was rotten when I got it in the first place when it was given to me in a bag, as I froze it right away. Perhaps it was their turkey only? Not sure what to say. I would love to update this to a 5-star review in the future. On one hand, the quality of meat, vacuum-sealed packaging, and fair prices are amazing. Home delivery is also a life saver. On the other hand, the lack of updates is untenable for me. I was running low on food and trying to make decisions that minimized going outside for groceries as much as possible, but couldn't properly plan for anything because I got no updates for a week until my expected delivery date rolled by without a word, and then what few messages I did receive after that at least assured me they were trying but couldn't give me a real timeframe to plan around. I ended up receiving my order today, a week and a half after I expected. I am completely willing to cut a lot of slack for businesses doing their best right now, and I'm happy I waited until they managed to deliver, but I can't order again until it's clear that they have a better handle on their new system. The mental load of uncertainty is not something I'm willing to deal with again in these times. Protip: when you're entering a quantity for whole chickens in your order, the price is per pound, but your quantity is per bird. Started ordering Piccinini Bros during the quarantine with some friends nearby. We've ordered 3 or 4 times total. The quality is better than anything I can get from my usual LES spots and with fair pricing. I've ordered pork shoulders, every cut of chicken, hot and sweet Italian sausages, ground beef, ground pork, and pork tenderloin. The cuts are well trimmed, and they have noticeably more flavor than you can get from a grocery store butcher or similar. Initially the deliveries took a few days (3-4). The quality was so good that we prepared to take Citibike to pick up a future order, but by then, the delivery times were more manageable. Our more recent orders have been delivered the next day, and the order placed today will arrive this afternoon! Cannot say enough good things. Like all of us, it took a moment for them to adjust to the new normal, but I've been so pleased. This is an unexpected highlight from 2020 that I plan to continue after the pandemic. read more

I've been ordering from Piccinini Bros since late April, basically from the time they started direct retail deliveries. The quality of products is outstanding, no matter what kind of meat is being ordered. The prices are more than fair, as a matter of fact they are below of whatever you would pay for the similar cuts at the farmer's markets or at specialty meat stores - and again, I would argue the quality of their stuff is much better. Regarding the service- as I see several negative reviews below. Even @ the time I placed my first order in April, when they obviously had some new logistics to deal with, it was just a slight delay issue which was immediately resolved when I contacted them. Ever since the service was excellent with all deliveries made on time and on specific dates if requested. To sum it all up-I'm really happy to be able to find a stellar meat supplier even if for the wrong reasons ( pandemic, their restaurants clients closing down etc). I've tried multiple times to call (which hits a full mailbox, never picked up) and email (with no response, even after weeks). Look. I get it. It's the pandemic - people are stressed, supply and demand are out of whack, and there's an adjustment period to running this. So I waited a full month to write this review. I made my order on APRIL 2 (I was charged immediately). It was late on a Thursday when I placed it. So I had expected delivery the following week given that my delivery address is in Manhattan. After 10 days went by, with nothing but an order confirmation email, I called them every day for 3 days straight. Nothing. Tried emailing 3 times. Nothing. By this point I could see the website had updated to increase order minimum and noted there were shipping delays. Look - I get it. I don't want to waste their time by bombarding them with emails, but how am I supposed to get across to them? It would be a different scenario if they shot me a note and offered to refund me or at least update me with an ETA, but they didn't. By the 2 week mark, I checked Yelp - and saw a ton of other people sharing my frustration. Then lo and behold, a bunch of 4-5 star reviewers coming in saying how great their meat was, and they ordered WEEKS after I placed my order. I'm not doubting the quality of the meat - I haven't been able to try it myself! As a business, if you charge your customers immediately, ignore them, and start servicing those that placed orders weeks after them, that is SO disappointing It is May 6 - and I STILL NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THEM. read more

Once we found piccinini brothers we don't get our meat anywhere else. The price to quality ratio is astounding. Truly astounding. The filet, the advertise it as being so tender you don't need a knife. And that is not an exaggeration. Cool those with a reverse-sear! Also try their brisket and short rib blend. Barely any seasoning needed for the best burgers we've ever had. One tip. If you can, pick up. Their crew is incredibly nice. And they'll waive the minimum if you pick it up yourselves. read more

On Wednesday I picked up my second order from Piccinini. Everything we have ordered so far has been amazing, fresh quality. The price for this quality of meat is reasonable too. I understand there ordering system has some flaws and they are overwhelmed with the online system, but it's a part of the growing pains for how there business is changing. It seems there business has used to just deliver to restaurants, and now it's a lot more consumers with many more orders to manage. If you can wait the time to you receive your order or just go and pick up the order, IT IS WORTH IT!!!! I place my order online the day before and call the next morning, I was able to easily pick It up right there with no hassle. In my first pickup I ordered the brisket, meatball mix, ossobuco, whole chickens, and pork. Hands down I made the best meatballs of my life with that mix, and everything else I made came out stellar as well. You can notice a big difference from grocery store shit purdue whole chickens, compared to these fresh chickens. This time around I figured I would try some new items as well, excited for the sausage and big looking chicken wings. We made the steak last night that turned out phenomenal. Also seasoned It 24 hours in advance which helps bring out the flavor. I really hope once the restaurant industry opens back up they continue to allow regular consumers to continue purchasing meat from them. I was in here one day to order a chicken and some of the special blend meat and a rat ran out from the work area the butcher cuts the meat. I brought the food home only to open the vaccum seal and both were spoiled. They refuse to reimburse me and now they won't respond. Go down 9th to Espositos. Much better. Clean. After almost 2 weeks I was getting worried and was contemplating disputing the charge with my bank. BUT I did receive my order tonight, everything was exactly what I ordered and they delivered it right to my door. The quality of meat is great! I didn't want to cancel because that would hurt their chargeback ratio, and I could tell they were sorting out their logistics. To make up for the delay, they added a pack of lamb sausage. Ordered italian spicy sausage, italian sweet sausage, a porter house, ribeye, and veal cutlet. The meat quality is fantastic. The veal and Italian sausage cooked perfectly and is satisfying in small portions. I'm saving the rest for memorial day, but just from the marbling I can tell I'm in for a treat. Be aware that you will get immediately charged a base rate upon ordering, then get a second invoice for them going over when the weight is finalized. read more
