I moved to Bayside from Arthur Avenue in the Bronx so was elated to find a classic NYC "red sauce" joint in my new neighborhood. From that day to now Jimmy's has remained excellent. A number of the same staff have worked there for decades, which speaks to the good vibe. In these days of increasing disconnectedness from our shared humanity, Jimmy's is like an old friend; relaxed atmosphere, welcoming neighborhood family vibe, and great food in generous quantity. Overall good food you'd expect at your local Italian restaurant! Came here for a Friday night dinner service around 5:45. The place starts getting crowded closer to 6:30. They start you off with a basket of warm Italian bread, garlic olive oil (This is yummy!), and crushed tomato sauce. We got the mushroom pizza to share (3/5)- not the best pizza, crust is on the thicker side of a NY slice, and the sauce was ok. If you add the garlic olive oil (from the bread basket) onto your pizza, it adds a great flavor! For my main dish, I got a penne alla vodka with shrimp. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Vodka sauce was incredibly delicious, shrimp were plump and well cooked (tasted fresh, not frozen) - which is hard to find in most restaurants. Went early on a Friday night so it wasn't busy yet but got busy later on. They let us choose our seats since the restaurant was empty early on. Service was very attentive, kept checking in and refilling our drinks. Food is good, pretty standard for what you would find at a sit down Italian restaurant. Prices were not bad either. The pizza came out with 8 slices so our table of 4 could each get 2 slices. Everything was very filling so none of us could finish but it's delicious. Nice cozy spot for a date night or you could have a large dinner there in their private room which was happening when we went too. read more

Came back and this did not disappoint- food is delicious, friendly service and reasonable prices! The Veal Chop Valdostana is a MUST GET. Stuffed veal with prosciutto and mozzarella topped with fresh mushrooms in a brown creamy sauce. Definitely big enough to share between 2-3 people. I will crave this on a regular basis. Unfortunately, the worst dining experience that I have had in quite some time. This place used to be halfway decent. Now they are awful at all levels and in all ways.They should be embarrassed to call themselves Italian or a restaurant. The food was inedible, the service was abysmal and unapologetic. In fact, they were just downright rude and pathetic. It's a real shame. This place used to be a nice, comfortable, quality restaurant. Great spot for some delicious Italian food on Bell Boulevard. There were 4 of us. So we shared appetizers. (Ceaser salad and a calamari salad). There's a bar that's fully stocked, with about 10 seats. The service was a bit strange ( disjointed). No one seemed to know what everyone else is doing. So a bit disappointing from that perspective. Had a wonderful meal at Jimmy's the other night. I was really in the mood for Italian food, I wanted to try a place I had never been. We really enjoyed the food with each dish being well cooked and delicious. The complementary bread with dipping sauces was a really nice touch. I was also really happy with the size of the dishes, allowing me to take it home and have it for lunch the Next day (enjoying for a 2nd time). I also have to say that the staff was extremely attentive, probably the most in any restaurant I have been. Food 3/5 price 3/5 overall 3/5 . So 9/20. Let's start with the piss poor service throughout the entire meal. From the moment we were seated until we left. The place wasn't extremely busy so there's no excuse for the terrible service. The staff not overly friendly , Food. Pasta was not drained just plates therefore it was sitting in a puddle of water on the plate, They told us the specials only to come back after we ordered to tell us they didn't have it. Then when we ordered a different meal they informed us they couldn't make that because they didn't have that pasta. I mean come on here is this your first night? No excuse. The chicken cutlet parm is their saving grace because it was huge , the size of the entire plate except when it arrived it was just barely warm not hot. Did I mention the service lacked or should I say outright sucked. As this is not an inexpensive restaurant the service needs to be stepped way up. This is your prototypical neighborhood Italian however lacking the zing. Dishes were all good just a bit under seasoned. One dish stood out was Penne Ala Vodka with grilled chicken.....except chicken resembles boiled instead of grilled, Other than that dinner service was quite fine. I know this restaurant has been in the neighborhood for many years and I'm sure they're well respected so I'm not closing the book just yet. Quaint Italian restaurant with amazing service and incredible food! Jimmy's is a gem in Bayside. For starters, the bread and olive oil and eggplant dips were all absolutely amazing - I could eat those on their own for a meal and never get sick of them. We had a Napolitano pizza as our appetizer, which was the perfect amount of garlic and cheese with some tomato and a delicious crust. I had penne vodka with breaded chicken, which was phenomenal, and the chicken parm was massive and got great reviews from my friend. Just paid $25 for breading. They gave me this piece of fried "veal" which pushes the limits of what paper thin means. I'm not even sure if this is even meat. Come on, guys. I'm a good customer of this restaurant and I understand that costs are going up and you need to raise costs in order to stay in business, but what the heck is this? What a waste of my money. We've tried a variety of Italian places in NYC. We love eating family style and enjoy popular desserts typically featured in these places. Jimmy's is a cut above, very reasonably priced and our current favorite. Start with the Calamari and Scallops Oreganato. Try the Tomato Mozarella Basil as well. For mains, we usually order Zuppa de Pesce and Linguini with white clam sauce. Tons of seafood on top of pasta cooked just right in a delightfully savory marinara or fra daviolo with a kick. The white clam sauce is a garlic lover's dream. Perfect flavor and texture. So good, I can finish in one sitting. I've done it twice already! Having Molten Lava cake is a bonus. Pleasantly surprised at this gem on bell, it's been here for so long and i didnt realize how great they were! Quick tip - there should be new signage or design out front because although this place is big, it's just not noticeable. The waiter was great and i loved the chimmychurry dip with the bread. I ordered a ghnocchi dish which was fantastic (although huge) and dom loved the pork chops. I wanted to try the bacon mozzarella but thats a special and you never know when its scheduled for. What made the chicken with the pasta so good?... the way it was seasoned just right, tasted fresh, and had the right tenderness, it was just delicious and a must eat here. I had had many different chicken dishes and I can say that this one is the best of the best. We came here for a quick Saturday evening dinner as I was craving chicken parmigiana. We called to make a reservation and they said we can just come in. Upon arrival we were greeted and seated immediately.The servers are really friendly and attentive. The place is more of a traditional family Italian Restaurant. They have a section for private parties and a decent bar. The place had a reasonable amount of tables with customers. We ordered the chicken parmigiana and the shrimp Parmigiana, both were really good. I really enjoyed the sauce. They give you bread, eggplant spread and olive oil to start, hence why we skipped an appetizer. By the end of the meal, we were too full for dessert. Very traditional looking Italian spot with cloth on the tables and a medium sized bar. Not your lively spot either, very much a dull vibe. The bread that our server brought out in the beginning was great.....tasty with oil and warm. We started off with zucchini sticks and I ended up ordering spaghetti. I never order spaghetti when I go out but I was in the mood for it. Now the zucchini sticks were good, but the sauce on my pasta was a lil bland. The cheese helped but it just didn't do it for me. There was a " reserved" sign for us upon our arrival. - we immediately were given a complimentary eggplant spread & delicious olive oil with warm bread. moments later our drink order was taken. Drinks arrived quickly. - the food was excellent. Our niece had shrimp scampi that was devoured. It was served with a "yummy" Caesar salad. She loved her meal. Our nephew had chicken parm with pasta. He too throughly enjoy his meal. My wife had the Caesar also with veal Milanese. The veal fell a tad short ( sorry jimmy). I had the house salad. The restaurant was quite roomy and had a unassuming ambience. Our table for six, was circular and very comfortable. The service was good, and the staff was accommodating.
