Piccolo is an okay restaurant. I got veal milanese, mussels marinara, pasta marinara, calamari, fried zucchini, and gnocchi marinara with meatballs. The veal Milanese was too bready and dry. It was so bad. I used to like their mussels marinara but this time it was a bit lacking in the flavor department. I don't think they make their own pasta here. The pasta marinara was basically spaghetti and marinara and it was already $17. The sauce was not that great. It was so sour. I wish they would dilute it more and added something into it. The calamari and the fried zucchini were okay. However, their gnocchi was so dense. Gnocchi is supposed to be fluffy. The meatballs were a bit dry and tasteless as well. I think they used too much flour on it. read more

What a wonderful find! We were making our weekly pilgrimage to Costco today when I noted my husband was getting a bit Hangry.... I pulled out my magic phone (that's what he calls my iPhone ) and pulled up the YELP app. I asked what he was hankering for and he mentioned spaghetti . So off I went in search of a local Italian spot with a good number of reviews and $$ pricing. We don't limit ourselves to 4+ stars as so many times we have found amazing places to eat with 3-3.5 stars! But I digress.... we found Piccolo off SOM Center in Gates Mills Place and decided to give it a shot. It's not a very large place 20-25 tables and a large bar. Atmosphere is upscale casual but comfortable too. It was 6:40pm on a Saturday night, we were greeted by very friendly staff and even through we didn't have a reservation they said hold on we have two tables getting ready to leave. We were followed in by 2 other parties and they had all of us seated within 15 minutes. The manager came over half way through our meal to check on us - and I observed her visiting many tables. Classy. We ordered two appetizers, the fried zucchini and the Suppli Ala Romano (risotto balls stuffed with with Motzerlella and deep fried. The zucchini was cooked perfectly which is hard to do with 1x1x6" planks and served with a garlic aoli. We asked for some marinara because the aoli was a bit too full of chunky garlic for our taste. The risotto balls are fantastic! Crisp, huge and full of yummy cheese. Seriously good eats. Served with marinara and pesto sauces. So here is my caution ---- we were already stuffed and our entrees weren't even delivered yet . When the entrees arrived they were beautiful plates and yep, HUGE!!! I had the Picolli Pork Chop, served with Swiss chart and tomato risotto. A 1.5" thick chop cooked perfectly. My husband had spaghetti (of course) topped with oodles of Italian sausage slices. Nice touch to slice the sausage as so often he has to fight his food. I had a lovely California Cabernet ($7) okay I had two and my hubby is a water drinker. Oh did I mention the Matre D also stopped at the table to see how we liked it, we had mentioned to him it was our first visit - definitely first of many . We got desert to go (limoncello marscapone cake) and they boxed our leftovers up so nicely. read more

Had planned to sit at bar for a glass of wine but bar was full - hostess kindly tried to see if they could squeeze us in there, but we opted to order a bit of food and sit at a table. Very nice better family restaurant on Rt. 91, just north on Mayfield Rd. in the shopping center. Check it out. It has a vibe of family gatherings and special celebrations. We went on a Thursday evening, and we were seated in the restaurant that was in full swing, and we didn't have a reservation. I saw a full bar. One lady brought our water right away, and explained the dinner specials. Our waitress brought menus and took our drink order. Then the bread and olive oil with Parmesan arrived. We ordered, and the wait was short to receive our meals. We were so hungry that I forgot to take pictures, but the food was delicious. The menu lists many substitutions for different salads, meats and pastas. Some were a few dollars more. House salads started the meal with apps of stuffed peppers and calamari. The calamari was okay. It could have been a bit crispier. One entree was the Cobb salad. This salad was the largest Cobb I've ever seen. The Penne Arrabiata was good. I had a Veal Parmesan in a marinara with pasta on the side. Lots of meals were pasta, but fish, chicken, shrimp, and other items were listed, including zucchini noodles. The meals were so large that we all took part of it home. So two meals for a reasonable price of one. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. We rented the whole restaurant out for a private party this past Saturday. Chris and Anna made it so easy to set all the details up. We were given a price per head and I couldn't believe the amount of food that came with it! I requested a specialty cocktail w a recipe that was my grandmas. Chris took care of ordering any of the ingredients they didn't have on hand already, and believe me when I say the bartenders nailed it. The staff was so friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was perfect. The food was delicious. The bar was well stocked. Being an out of towner, I have never been here before we decided to throw a party here but I see why my family all dine here regularly. Love everything about this place and its staff. read more

Piccolo catered my wedding in 2020 and we still have guests raving about the food. They did an amazing job, and everything was delicious! They have also catered box lunches to my employer multiple times and it's always a great option. We are at the restaurant last night for Valentine's Day and were blown away by how large the portions were, yet how affordable it is. Very friendly staff, great ambience, and of course- amazing Italian food. It's a shame. We never go out and when we do, we'd go to Piccolo. Used to be reliable but they've seriously reduced their standards. The awful experience began when we walked in and asked for a table. Hostess asked if we made a reservation, we did not. The restaurant was nearly EMPTY and they put us in a freezing cold corner. Ordered a $10 drink and it was skimpy and tasted completely diluted. Bread was brought out to the table and it was hard as rock. Sent it back and they quickly brought back fresh bread. They were trying to use up old bread on us and I did not appreciate that one bit. I used to work in a restaurant so I know all the tricks. 15 minutes after I ordered my dish the server came over and said they were out of it. Ordered something else and the food was ok..however the $20 entrees seem like a good deal but the side salad is weak and pasta is tasteless. You can substitute the sides but they charge you an extra $5/side. It's just not worth it. Very disappointed in this restaurant. Not to mention, they had Fox News playing on the TV when we walked in. Awesome awesome awesome!!!!! Italian wedding soup was huge & full of vegetables, chicken & meatballs. It could have been a meal by itself. The lasagna was amazing. There was so much meat & the sauce, oh the sauce chunks of tomato & meat. Eggplant parm was 3 big slices of deliciousness. Enough for tomorrow. Almost missed this little gem, tucked in the midst of a little shopping center. Word on the street this boasts one powerful happy hour and had to give it a go. Promptly greeted by our hostess and directed to bar area. Place was lit and seating was a little tight (definitely had to back out your bar seat in order to get out). But oh it's worth it. Very clean and slight upscale atmosphere without the upscale prices. Start off with some fresh crisp bread (not sure if it was ciabatta or italian) and seasoned olive oil. Takes a while for it to come out but it's always warm when it arrives. I've been here twice now both times for the happy hour menu, everything only $5 or $6. Unique food items for happy hour (not just chicken wings or flat bread). Instead, choose from a unique calamari (a little sweet), deep fried eggplant slices doused in mozzarella and tomato sauce with basal (*fave), bowl of the pasta of the day (generous portion for just $5). Despite the delectable happy hour prices, I always have this self obligation to get a chicken parmigiana at an italian place. This entree can feed a family. There's an additional $5 sharing fee to split the entree but they also give each person a salad and their own bowl of pasta. Even splitting the dish I still had some to take home and eat the next day. Meat was tender, pasta al dente and sauce was on point (great balance of sweet and savory). I have very mixed thoughts on Piccolo after my first visit there with my wife and a friend. The ambience was wonderful. Our server exceptional. Apps of the calamari and eggplant were fantastic as was the arugula salad. Entrees of chicken picatta and veal picatta were very disappointing and both suffered the same defects of being very bland with the angel hair pasta very over cooked and limp. There were capers and artichokes and lemons in the sauce but absolutely no flavor. Not sure what was missing but it was quite disappointing. Probably not going back. read more

Beautiful establishment. Welcoming from who I would guess as the owner(s). Seating great. Beautiful bar. Server (Brian), was awesome. Had the wedding soup I heard was "to die for", eh, I wouldn't go that far. It was bland. But not terrible. Spaghetti with clam sauce, good flavor, but holy smokes it has a bit of a kick you in the throat spice to it. Pepper flakes, not a good thing. I have had better that didn't burn my throat. Lesson learned. Had to take a meal back, it was some white wine sauce pasta dish, it was swimming in white wine that could or should have been cooked down much more. I was in with my husband last week for an early dinner, we both had the chicken parm and it was great! Our server was quick and efficient. What want so great was another server who was in the dining room, clearly intoxicated, being loud, obnoxious and on her phone. She did disappear so maybe she got sent home?? It is one of our favorite Italian restaurants. Much better to eat in than to take out. The Arrabiata is outstanding, everyone in the family likes it. The bread is different and the house salad dressing is very good. With the pandemic, we have taken out from here 3 or 4 times and about half the time the food is great but the other half it is only okay. We came to dinner on a Friday night. My lobster ravioli came out ice cold. I sent it back and it didn't return for what seemed like 25 minutes. By then, my party was done eating. I had them box it up and they still charged me for it. Also, hot soup was spilled on another member of our party. No sign of a manager for either incident. I was part of a party of 4 on a Saturday night. The food was very good, and the prices were reasonable. However, the service left a lot to be desired. This is the place for you if the quality of the food is more important than the service. I would consider dining there again, but not right away. Met my husband here for lunch and I have to say we were pleasantly surprised! The staff was extremely nice and attentive. The dining room was cozy and clean. The server brought over a basket of warm bread with oil and parm cheese to dip it in. It was so good we wanted to get another basket of it! I ordered the pasta carbonara and it was creamy and had a tons of flavor. My husband ordered chicken piccata and he loved every bite of it! The portions were huge, I ate the rest of mine for dinner. What an awful experience! Our waitress Dawn was lovely and did everything she could. A party of three arrived at 7 PM for a 7 PM reservation. By 820 we still had no food. We were told someone called and yelled and added large orders to a poker dinner order and that is what the holdup was. The priority was given to a late carry out order Instead of the patrons sitting in the restaurant. The chicken piccata was so salty it was in edible. The pasta with chicken had no olive oil or seasoning and the grilled chicken was dry. To top it off the manager lied and said she was not the manager as we were leaving. read more

This is a decent place to go for an old-school Italian meal. The atmosphere is warm, inviting and clean. Our service was not terribly friendly but attentive. The house salad featured fresh greens, chickpeas and a delicious Balsamic vinaigrette. The lentil soup was the highlight of my meal -- some of the best I've had anywhere. The spaghetti was properly al dente, but the marinara was overly sweet with a strong taste of burnt garlic. My overall impression was...there are better Italian restaurants in NEO. We'll return, but mostly because we have a gift card and I want to try their pizza. read more

Although it was Valentines Day, I was able to get our party of four in the restaurant at 7 PM. A woman who answered the phone was kind enough to offer me a high top table that she agreed to hold for 35 minutes while we drove there. Upon arriving, our table was all set and available for us immediately. We ordered drinks and appetizers, along with our main courses. Everything we ordered, and I mean everything was absolutely amazing. Portions were very generous, and everything looked as if it had been prepared from scratch. They say third time is a charm but in this case not so much. Decided to give this place a third try and I am still not recommending it. Ordered the Braciole di Manzo at the tune of $21.00. The GOOD; - Got seated right away - Server was pleasant - They don't charge for soda water (yes, that's a thing!) - Focaccia bread and dipping oil - Meal also included salad - Amount of time it took for food to arrive at my table - Size of entree portion The BAD; - Server was scarce (I've said this before in one of my other reviews) - The meat on my dish was very chewy/ dry - The stuffing in the roll was just okay. Authentic, Delicious, & Fabulous... the Trifecta! We popped into this establishment with relatively high expectations. After all, we had eaten at the owner's other venue and were rather smitten with those offerings. So once through the doors, a few things had become apparent... 1) Clearly the buzz had gotten out about this hot spot, because the lobby was packed, so call ahead and get a reservation! 2) The zesty aromas were taunting all of us leading to a ridiculous amount of anticipation and salivation. 3) This was going to be splendid. There is no way that it wouldn't be. Yummy. Upon being seated, we were promptly served freshly baked focaccia bread with dipping oil. There really isn't a better way to kick off an Italian feast, than a basket filled with piping hot bread! We indulged ourselves a little and ordered the Calamari Fritta and the Zucchini Fritte. Both were served in an artful style with flavors bursting off of the plate. The Zucchini Fritte was literally gorgeous! Now that your taste buds are yearning for more written food porn, I should take you on a journey through the entrees. When I dine out with friends, we all employ the "family plate" concept. We are all going to order different meals and share with each other. That being said, at the table we ordered the Chicken Marsala, Tuna Steak with Pasta (Special), Chicken Carbonara (Special), and the Short Rib Agnolotti, Without exaggeration, I can say that not only were all of the dishes oozing with goodness, they were all at the top of the Italian food chain as far as flavors go. The marina smothered angle hair pasta that accompanied the Marsala was by far the best marinara that I have ever had the honor of eating. The creamy Carbonara sauce was sinfully rich, and the Short Rib Agnolotti was sooo unique and inventive that I can not get the taste out of my head since! Naturally, being a full-figured gent I ordered a dessert for the table... Yup, Fried Dough! It was to die for! Fresh Pizzelles also made their way to our table, and I must say that they too topped the cake. I give this place FIVE delicious stars! A must-eat and a pleasant escape from the Little Italy parking nightmare. read more

Honestly, I have to say that I'm glad Mother Nature dumped her load of Cleveland snow and forced half of our group to stay home when we chose this restaurant as our pick this month for a club dinner. Really my complaint is mostly with service but the one dish 4 out of 5 of us ordered, lasagna, was not good. I tasted my husband's and was not at all impressed. He left more than half and for him, that tells the whole story. The red sauce on my pasta was sweet and terrible and I only had one bite. The chicken parm that I ordered was fine, easily forgettable. My main beef, however, is the service. We were fine being downgraded to a smaller table, no problem, but at that point our previously attentive waitress found better things to do. It took her at least 15 minutes to acknowledge the last two arrivals then she disappeared while we survived on bread and wondered when in the hell we would be able to order our food. 15 minutes after that she asked about appetizers and we immediately said uh we're ready to order, too. But then, besides a brief round of average salad, we waited AN HOUR for our meal. An hour! Other tables were getting their orders (and finishing) so I can't imagine the kitchen was that backed up. After I tasted what everyone ordered but me, I was completely embarrassed that I'd picked the place. Finally, we had to wait for our checks too. She did come back right away with the people that used credit cards but she told us she would be back with change, set ours on the empty table next to us and never returned. I'm not sure what happened as I really thought this waitress was going to be great and was excited about the food. The breadsticks are good, thank you Jesus, but I can't get over that lasagna and their red sauce. We dine at lots of Italian restaurants and this is neither authentic nor delicious. :( read more

I love supporting small, local restaurants. But this place misses the mark on a few levels. But first a positive: our table service was good. I can't make waves about that. The olive oil they serve with bread is a little on the spicy side. I LOVE spicy food but for the average bear, this would be a bit too much. Now my big pet peeve: the lettuce leaves in my salad hadn't been dried thoroughly. They were soaking wet, making the balsamic dressing a waste. I ordered the Penne arrabiata. Now, I have probably ordered this dish 20+ times in my life. Traditionally it has red pepper flakes, garlic and fresh basil. Well this one arrived with hot Italian peppers in it. And it was undersalted. The hubby ordered the short ribs. That needs a different description on the menu. As it is currently written, no one would expect the short rib to be mixed in with rigatoni. I thought it would be a short rib with rigatoni on the side. So here comes the weirdest one: they don't have Coke or Pepsi. Instead they use some local off-brand soda. That makes absolutely no sense. Why would you cheap out and only have an off-brand? All in all, we won't go back. read more
