After enjoying a great dinner and service previously at this restaurant, I suggested to a group of friends that we meet for dinner at this location. Prior to heading out to dinner, I read a recent review that stated that the Chicken dishes seemed to be rubbery. When seated, I spoke to Rob, one of the owners, who stated some of his loyal customers brought it to his attention and he immediately started buying only organic chicken. Well time for the taste test! .......First we ordered for the table their Homemade Ravioli's which was wonderful. Then for entrée's, I ordered the Chicken Zingarella which was as good as advertised. Loved it!! Other dishes that came to the table were quite interesting along with other variations of Chicken dishes with pasta which were all very good. No worries here. It's always a good dining experience when coming here. The food is great. I had the pollo Valdostano which was cooked perfectly moist and tender. The veal dragonello was good too. Nice, local place with a following. Warm ambiance, comfortable. All male servers, from what we observed, were gracious and attentive. I would call Piccolo's "Italian American" cuisine. It is not "authentic Italian" like the food you would find in Italy. The food was hearty, and portions were big--pasta was double a normal portion, and enough for a doggy bag. The pasta was cooked al dente and not overloaded with sauce. Side order of meatballs contained two very large meatballs When the menu misspells the names of Italian dishes, it may indicate that no Italians from Italy run the place. Another clue: the "crust" on the salmon contains cheese (in Italy, cheese with fish is a no-no). The bread basket was a little skimpy, not homemade. There may be some gems on this menu, but our meals weren't particularly notable, except for the portion sizes. We were allowed to linger and didn't feel rushed. read more

So I'm from the Baltimore-MD area and this area despite its diversity and large population is basically a food desert. In my eyes, this is probably some of the best Italian I have had outside of Italy. Do your a favor and stick to the raviolis, they are homemade and their speciality. My personal performance is the five cheese, it's in a vodka sauce unlike the four cheese. Salads are large enough to share. Save room for homemade deserts, the raspberry cheesecake is phenomenal. This is a classic Long Island purveyor of above-solid Italian-American cuisine. I can definitively say I have been coming here with my Long Island family for easily over 20 years now. Jesus I am old...I digress. The place touts itself as a ravioli specialist, and they are quite fine indeed, however I give the edge to the extremely and distinctly cravable Chicken Zingerella for the title of the true crown jewel of the menu. Start off with some baked clams oreganata, get a nice glass of chianti and if you squint your eyes just so, you might just swear you've been sucked inside of a Billy Joel song. These type of old school Italian spots are dropping like flys within the Boroughs, and it make visits out to the Island more rewarding, if for the chance to check in with places carrying the torch of this classic, distinctly American cuisine. read more

Being from out of town 8 o'clock on a Sunday night we found a true gem. It was welcoming ,the food was amazing. The owner and chef waited on us to our surprise. The signature dish Chicken Zingerella I would have again and recommend. The calamari perfect .The bread dipping pesto best ever something special in that not sure..and I am sure the best tiramisu of my life..I do think one of the best and I am italian best italian restaurants I have been. the service was excellent..Everyone was very attentive. my granddaughter ate the chicken cutlet as to having chicken nuggets..a feat in its self. Came here the other night for dinner. Good food with friendly and welcoming service. I ordered the chicken Zingarella, which is the house specialty. It was really good. As an appetizer, I ordered a half portion of duck ravioli. I'm obsessed with ravioli and I tend to place an order whenever I see them on the menu; they were outstanding. I absolutely adored my experience at Piccolo's. Go here for the ravioli and the wonderful waiters. My family made a reservation for a Wednesday night, but it wasn't needed as there were just three seated groups and the rest of the place was empty. It wasn't awkwardly empty, though. The vibe was homey, cute, and cozy. They brought out bread and this amazing dipping sauce that we all fell in love with, so much so that our waiter promised to give us a container of it to take home with us! He hooked it up! I ordered the artichoke and cheese ravioli (a special) and asked them to add spinach, which they did, brother ordered five cheese ravioli with shrimp on the side, dad ordered minestrone soup and arugula salad, and mom ordered linguine with tomato sauce. Everything was awesome; however, my mom wasn't 100% happy with her dish as she said the sauce could have been better. Still, I loved my food and would return to try other ravioli dishes for sure. Icing on the cake was when the waiters brought out a slice of ice cream cake on the house for my birthday. How nice is that?! They really take care of you here, and the food was great. Very disappointed! My husband and I came here hoping that they can host our baby shower party. We met the manager & mentioned our plan & save the date. I even went on to agree to make the deposit tonight but the manager just sat us to our table and left us hanging. He finally came by our table to talk about our plan as we were signing the bill and gave us a very lame excuse as to why he couldn't tend us. To mind you, we were the 3rd table they had tend to, so I don't know where that lame excuse came from. We declined & decided to do our baby shower somewhere else. Great gem in Long Island! Great location with parking and a very friendly staff. Been here for lunch and dinner a few times and every time it's amazing. I originally planned on going to another Italian restaurant, but wound up here because the other place was packed. Upon walking in, I thought the place was kind of cute and cozy. We were seated right away since they had a few empty tables on a Sunday night. The complimentary bread was on the cold side and the focaccia bread was a bit over salted, but it was easily tamed with the olive oil dip provided next to the butter. We started off with the Clams Cassati for appetizers ( fresh clams topped with combo of chopped bacon, red roasted peppers, home made oregenata breadcrumps served in a lemon white wine sauce). Let me tell you that each dish only comes with 6 clams at $11.95. So when I was told that, I was thinking they were the large clams - nope, these are tiny little neck clams! I guess I should have inquired further or maybe they should specify that. They were tasty, but I felt a little cheated at that price. We all ordered different dishes and here were the ones that I tired: - Duck Ravioli served in a triplesec cream sauce: When you cut into the ravioli, it is a mushy red consistency....I was sort of expecting more duck meat in it and more duck flavor, but I couldn't really taste it at all - Gnocchi Bolognese: I had a few bites of this and it was pretty good. It was also a pretty large plate as well, definitely shareable. - Seafood Biondo (clams, shrimp, tilapia served in savory broth with fresh plum tomatoes, chopped prosciutto, onion, garlic, basil and a touch of cream over linguini): it was yummy and a perfect balance of ingredients. I would definitely recommend this. Since I could not finish it, I took it home and heated it up the next night and it was still very delicious. Overall, it isn't quite the best Italian food I've ever had, but Piccolo's was certainly satisfying. If I were to come back or if for a first time, I'd give them a try first for their quick lunch at $10. read more

The food is priced fairly for the quality of the food. The establishment is small but cozy and warming. We shared an order of the fried calamari and it was fresh and very enjoyable. A great way to get the palate and stomach ready for the delicious entrées. The chicken Zingarella is by far one of the best chicken dishes I've ever had the pleasure of having. The stuffed chicken breast and sauce just work. You will not be disappointed For dessert I finished off with a Nutty Irishman coffee. It is American coffee with Baileys and Frangelico. It went very well with the delicious homemade rainbow cookies. They are moist and dense, just the way they should be. Not sure what happened to this place but it's gone steeply downhill. First off there's a bad smell when you walk in which isn't exactly appetizing. The portions are insanely small, we asked for our shrimp over angel hair and they told us that there's not enough sauce in the dish for that and it's a predetermined amount?? Made us get side portions of pasta with garlic and oil which were enough to feed maybe a 6 month old. Very strange. The meals came out immediately but were cold - the waiter took mine back and it still came back luke warm at best. They rushed us out, I still had a full portion in front of me and they were clearing everyone else's plates at the table. My family comes here for birthdays and celebrations and we leave happy every single time. Ravioli in their vodka sauce as an app and then the Caesar salad with shrimp for an entree. Always consistent and made fresh. Every employee is professional and polite and the restaurant itself is cozy and charming. The family that runs the place really cares about their business as well as their customers. I prefer to sit deeper into the restaurant rather than the tables right when you walk in but the service is 100% in any section. My mom loves their Nutella ravioli for dessert and they never rush the dining experience. They even have jewelry in the front that they sell and I'm not sure but I THINK the money goes to charity. My mother, sister and I got matching bracelets which we actually love. I am ENRAGED with this place. I booked my son's baptism here, left my card on file and everything with full intentions of holding the party here for 25 people. 8 days later, a number keeps calling me so after the 3rd call, I answered and it was Piccolo's telling me that I cannot have over 30 people at the venue because it'll be a tight squeeze and they can't close down the restaurant for my party which is completely fine, he also said that the price increases when booking in the evening.. which I was fine with because I did not think I'd have more than 30 people. My parents decided to invite more people without my knowledge making the party more than 30 people. I called Piccolo's letting them know we will not be able to have a party with them due to the increased amount of people. The man on the phone tells me he's charging me 30% of the amount of 30 people for cancelling. NOBODY EVER TOLD ME THIS he said that there was a 3-day grace period of cancelling with no fee from the day I booked and it was a verbal new york state contract agreement that i was apparently told over the phone when i booked but nobody ever told me!!!! AND he called me EIGHT DAYS AFTER so if i decided to cancel after I got the call that the price was increased, I still would be charged 30% since it was after the 3-day grace period. I would've been completely fine about all of this IF I WAS ACTUALLY TOLD FROM THE BEGUNNING!!!! And I would've let my parents know so they wouldn't have invited all of these people!! I am FURIOUS never giving this place my business. read more

Consistency is their biggest problem. Over the years, Chicken zingarella was always my go to, whether dining in or taking out. When executed perfectly, 5 stars. But, when I get extremely rubbery chicken or watered down/flavorless zingarella sauce on the chicken (more common), it deters me from ever going back. This has happened on numerous occasions and for almost $25 an order (or $200 for the catering) it's not worth returning. Do you even taste your dishes before you plate and serve them? Icing on the cake though was when I came in with my gf who was in the mood for chicken Marsala and she was served a piece of poached chicken in broth with a few small mushrooms floating in it. I asked to clarify if she received the right order and was told that's how they make it? I'm almost positive, nope, I think it's pretty definitive that a chicken Marsala dish is usually served in a heavy dark brown mushroom sauce, sometimes with a touch of Marsala wine added in for variation. The son of the owner looked at me as if I didn't know what I was talking about after clearly knowing I was a regular he has seen plenty of times over the years. Take a step back from riding your father's legacy and learn a thing or two about what made his restaurant a once local gem! Your focaccia bread certainly won't keep the lights on! Needless to say, she got sick later that night and I would probably make a strong bet it was whatever concoction you served her. Good luck! read more

Dinner for 9 in the front room. The ravioli is as good as others have said. The duck ravioli was the best bar none. Even the Caeser salad was great. I ordered veal off menu with no problem. Swordfish grilled to perfection. Service impeccable and nice as can be. We brought our own special cake for a birthday and they served it and wrapped individual take out packages. I have been coming to this restaurant for the past couple of years and it is one of my favorite Italian restaurants. I drive from Queens at least every couple of weeks. My go to is always the penne a la vodka and it is definitely in my top two. The chicken zingarella is also one of the best chicken dishes I have eaten. It is cooked to perfection and melts in your mouth. The complimentary bread is served with an olive oil mixture, but is extremely delicious. We usually order calamari, however, it is not served on Fridays or Saturdays. I tried the Caesar salad this time around and was disappointed - it was very garlicy and just not good at all. This is the first bad thing I have eaten here so maybe it was just an off night. They also have all kinds of homemade raviolis, ranging from apple to duck. Last night (12/8/2016) I attended a farewell party for one of my former co-workers at Piccolo's. Because the restaurant had a couple of other events taking place at the same time, our party was seated in the upstairs section of the restaurant. Now in order to get to upstairs, we all were escorted outside of the restaurant to a back entrance. It seemed like the upstairs section is not even connected to the main restaurant itself. Once we arrived upstairs, we immediately noticed the decor, lighting and ambiance was completely different from the main restaurant. Which took away from the experience. Let me start off by saying, the servers were exceptional. Especially for the number of people who were in our party. Once we were all seated, our drink orders were immediately taken and not long after that, our drinks were served. There was bread on the table, and once the bread basket would run low, it was immediately replenished. I enjoyed my meal from the appetizer, main course, to dessert. However I had a few complaints. My first and biggest complaint were the fruit flies or gnats that were flying around all throughout dinner. Not sure where they came from, but a lot of us were swatting away these little flies from our food and drinks. I lost a nice glass of cabernet to two of these pesky insects that fell into my glass. I would have rated this place a five, but I guess being seated in a room such as we were, we had to deal with the elements. I was taken to this place by a good friend in the Nassau County Police Department (you can almost always trust the food that a cop recommends). Firstly, this restaurant has a separate (and presumably seasonal) ravioli menu, with several choices like apple, pumpkin, chestnut, and cheese. We started with a shared plate of pumpkin ravioli and duck ravioli, both in the Triple Sec cream sauce. The plate was garnished with a sprinkling of walnuts and raisins. Absolutely delicious. One of the their specialties is chicken zingarella, breasts topped with prosciutto, mozzerella, in a sauce of Marsala, roasted red pepper, mushroom, and maybe a pinch of brown sugar, whazzed up into a smooth texture. I asked nicely and got veal zingarella. The veal was properly cooked, tender, and juicy. The sauce has this rich, buttery, sweet and savory flavor, however, I think that it could have used a little more salt. I also had a side of pasta with zingarella sauce. The menu is stacked with many delicious-looking options, including a selection of risottos, which I really would have liked to try, but as any good risotto should be, it is cooked to order, so it does take some time. I will be sure to go again when I have more time. I believe most dinner entrees are around the $20 mark. Unfortunately I didn't check out any of their libations, as when you're sitting across from two on-duty commanding officers, well, you tend to drink at whatever they drink, which is to say, no alcohol. The meal was so filling that I couldn't have possibly eaten a dessert (okay, yes I could have, but I don't like to display just how gluttonous I really can be).Given the quality of the other items I tried, I'm sure they have a great coffee and dessert menu. Service was prompt, pleasant, knowledgeable. This is a small restaurant with great ambiance, even very romantic in the right company. I was a little surprised how empty it was even for a Tuesday night. I'm told weekends are busier.
