    Clams Oreganata

Came here my second time, this time for my dad's birthday dinner on a Thursday night. The ambience was great during dinner, with each table having a small candle. All the food was delicious, from the complimentary bread to their homemade Ravioli. We ordered the Clams Oreganata, Pan Fried Calamari, Pollo Zingarella which comes with a choice of Pasta or Broccoli, Lobster Ravioli, Meat Ravioli, and Duck Ravioli. The manager mentioned that the Pollo Zingarella and the Duck Ravioli were their best dishes. I definitely agree with the Pollo Zingarella, especially when you drench it with the sauce since it elicits a very creamy and rich mushroom and chicken flavor. However, I really enjoyed the Lobster Ravioli since it had a unique sweet and seafood flavor which stood out from the rest. The Duck Ravioli had a subtle gaminess and paired well with the Alfredo sauce. The Meat Ravioli and Fried Calamari both tasted basic but still great. My only gripe is that it's incredibly hard to hear in the restaurant and literally all the servers were annoyed that we were asking them to repeat what they said, which I feel they should be more understanding being in the restaurant and service business. Also, never did I feel so pressured in ordering drinks and dessert from a restaurant before. Hopefully this doesn't deter you from trying their food.

8/10/24. Arrived around 6pm on a Saturday night and decided to chance it without a reservation. When we walked in the owner/manager said he could not accommodate us because they had reservations. His response was rather dismissive. However, we asked to sit outside which was no problem. Rather odd the offer to sit outside wasn't suggested by the owner. We shared the hot antipasto for two. And for entrées, we had the chicken zingarella (side of pasta with bolognese sauce) and the veal bolognese. Based on our previous visits, we requested our food to be extra hot. I believe our server's name was Amy and she delivered. She was very intentive as well as Jacob, the busboy. The owner did approach our table (as well as others) to make sure everything was going well. Food 5 stars. The food is absolutely delicious. Service 4 stars. Ambience 4 stars. Cozy inside, and casual outside. tables had umbrellas and most chairs had cushions.

A hidden gem in Mineola! Italian might be my favorite cuisine and I love trying local restaurants. I'm glad I saw the sign when I drove by one day. It reminded me of the Piccolo Cafe I once went to in New Jersey but it's nothing like that! This restaurant has lunch specials and is closed for a short period of time and then reopens for dinner. The parking lot is kind of small but you should be able to find parking behind the restaurant or on the street perpendicular to Jericho Turnpike. The interior of the restaurant is smaller than I expected too so be sure to make reservations! Unfortunately, there is no online system so make that call! The restaurant has a small quiet seating area with more sunlight right upon entry and a larger seating area inside as well as a bar table. I actually really liked the small quiet seating area as it was brighter and more private. The complimentary bread with dip was amazing! I can't wait to come back for more haha. There is a good variety of cocktails, white and red wine. I personally prefer cocktails or cocktails so I was happy with the choices. Then, I shared a fried Calamari and baked Clams appetizer. The fried Calamari is a bit airy than I like with a tad too much batter. But the light flavor went well with the sauce and it was good. The baked Clams were phenomenal! Perfectly cooked with butter and topped with a lemon squeeze. As for entree, we got what they are famous for - house made ravioli's! Their ravioli's are on the smaller size so don't freak out when they say one order comes with about 15 pieces. It was a perfect portion to share. I tried the unique duck as well as the lobster meat. Both were delicious! I can't wait to go back to try other meats and sauces. For dessert, the tiramisu looked absolutely stunning but I was full and wanted something lighter or something frozen. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the Oreo Ice-Cream cake but they recommended a different off the menu dessert which was a small cup of rum infused cream with almond crumbs on top and it was delicious! I honestly can't wait to go back.

Love this place! Just figured it's been 6 years since my last review and I'd update that it's still amazing. We're always trying new places so to be somewhere we constantly go back to means it's amazing. Had my baby shower here, had my last meal before I officially became a mom here, and countless birthdays etc here. It's never disappointing. My aunts still talk about how amazing the food was at my baby shower. It's definitely a local gem.

Phenomenal food, service, professional and did I say exquisite Italian food! This place rocks, amazing!!! We had the Shrimp ala Piccolo, Five cheese homemade ravioli, spinach ravioli both with Bolognese sauce! And clams oregenata for anti pasta, and Pistachio Tortufo for dessert!!!

Lovely interior, feels very welcoming, like a place where you would enjoy a good meal and good conversation with family and close friends. The olive oil with the appetizer bread was absolutely delicious - the olive oil had a somewhat vinegary taste, and you could taste hints of capers as well (our server overheard us wondering aloud and confirmed this). My friend and I liked that the arugula with goat cheese salad was chopped up and mixed and therefore easy to eat. We also agreed that there were generous amounts of goat cheese (what I was craving most when I eyed the salad on the menu). My biggest critique about the food is about the salad itself: while delicious, it was quite salty and on the smaller side (guess I'm used to larger portions - so...maybe smaller is actually better...healthy portion sizes!). Also, if it had been chillier (we went on a cool summer evening - still warm enough for a sleeveless dress!), then I would have preferred that my soup were a bit hotter. I don't recall feeling the heat from the bowl. My friend and I felt so comfortable chatting away here that we did not realize we shut down the place - literally, as we decided to take turns using the restroom before heading out, we noticed it was just us left plus 2 employees. But the employees were very courteous and said it wasn't a problem, that they were just cleaning up.

I had to change plans quickly as I looked at the specials they had going on that day wow! We decided to go with the duck and the monkfish main course entrees instead. Life is about making the right choices and this was the best decision I made that day lol! The duck was cooked to perfection soft on the inside crispy on the outside wow! I really like how juicy and fatty the duck was very succulent and delicious yummy. I especially liked the wine sauce on top among taste sweet with a slight tart to it juts the right balance I was impressed. Definitely one of the best duck dishes I've ever had it's a special so I'm not sure if it will be available when you decide to go call ahead would be my suggestion and your best bet. Laslty the side with butter squash was also a delight to eat and treat! Second course was the monkfish which was great as well. It had a slightly Smokey flavor to my pallet and a slight crunch on the outside maybe it was torched or seared not sure. Whatever the case it was a great touch to the dish very tasty and juicy as well. I love the sauce and the sides were great mashed potatoes with broccoli yummy! I highly recommend this place for brunch, lunch, or dinner take your pick. They will not disappoint you at all that's for sure. I'm not sure how this place is in the evening as I've only gone during the day. I hope the chef gets to read this and know his work is appreciated and noticed! The staff and waiters are very accommodating and knowledgeable about the entrees and food in general. Great service and energy I will come again and repeat whenever possible. I liken the music they play in the background it's not too loud and always sets a great tone for the place. The windows bring in great light and the decor is tasteful and elegant gives a bistro vibe to me personally. You might think differently let us know anyway. The parking situation was not too bad on early evening during the weekday, but I could totally see it get out of hand on the weekends, so plan accordingly. We were sat right away and the lovely server dropped a basket of bread while we peered through the menu. The free bread is quite good. We were all starving, so the cheesy chewy bread was great to munch on. I am also much more forgiving about a bit of wait for food if there is free bread being offered. It was also nice because we were seated right by the kitchen window, so it was like getting a dinner and a show. We got the Saporite, which reminded me of a Costco chicken bake with its creamy innards punctuated by grilled chicken. This is my brothers favorite, and I could see why. We also had the spaghetti seafood, which was so richly flavored with the seafood. I'm not sure I ever had Italian pasta so full of that umami seafood flavor. Truly wow. The ravioli verde was something we got to add something not-tomato based & it was an excellent choice. The sauce was verdant and creamy. The ravioli filling didn't feel like straight ricotta but I liked whatever they had done to it! The chicken parm was also a solid choice, good breading on hefty cutlets of chicken and a nice helping of charred cheese on top. We liked every single dish, and the portions were more than enough to feed all of us and leave leftover for the next day. I was especially touched by the professionalism of the young servers during what was becoming an increasingly crowded dinner service. We got extra bread, waters filled, and to go boxes promptly. The hype was surprisingly real. I guess I should not be surprised that a place that's been around since my childhood has withstood the test of time because it was good. Will revisit soon for lunch service.

For starters, two kind of salads came out. The first one was a Caesar and the second one I had spring leaves feta cheese avocado and addressing already on it. I prefer the second one. They both were good however. The table was also presented with a serving of Calamari Fritté. I did not taste it. I don't know what they put on that rolls, but they came out warm with like a sweet glaze on the top. I'm assuming some kind of maple butter. I had three of those. Don't tell anyone Also as an appetizer was Tomato Bruschetto with pistachio pesto. I also have way too much of that. It was delicious and fresh. One main ain course was Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo. I don't eat shrimp so I can't tell you how that was. The other was Rigatoni alla Vodka which was very rich and good. Sauce tasted homemade and not out of the bottle like some places. I also grabbed another piece of bread with that. But again we won't talk about that. We have two proteins. One was Chicken Francese. It was very tender. A light crisp on the outside in a nice flavorful sauce. The other protein was Grilled Salmon in a butter herb sauce. I only had a few bites of salmon. I rarely eat salmon out because I don't know how it's sourced. The flavor was fine however. For dessert, they had fruit and a couple of cakes. One cake served was Gigi's Butter Cake. I think they put some crack in it because it is addictive. Very rich, buttery and served warm! I ate one there and took one home. Shhhhhhhh The other cake was New York style cheesecake. I can't tell you how that tasted because I also took that slice home. I have more cake than I can eat at the moment. If you want some let me know

I thought I was losing my mind until I checked my text messages and saw they sent a confirmation text asking me to press 1 to confirm or 2 to cancel. I was sleeping and didn't even see it until about an hour and a half later. Huge turn off. I called and thankfully they added me back, but it definitely started the experience off wrong. Once we arrived, we checked in and sat at the bar while waiting for our table. The bartender took about 25 minutes just to acknowledge me and take my drink order, which was disappointing. When we finally got seated, I realized they were only offering a prix-fixe family-style menu for Mother's Day. I understand limited menus on holidays, but I think each guest should still have the option to choose their own entrée because not everyone likes the same foods. I asked if we could add an extra appetizer, and our waitress who was very nice checked with the manager and they accommodated us. The issue was they didn't bring the extra appetizer out until after the entrées came. At that point it made no sense, and when I asked if they could remove it from the bill, they wouldn't accommodate that. Now for the food: Chicken Parmesan: slightly burnt and lacked flavor Beef medallions: needed salt and seasoning Lasagna: way too much ricotta cheese Shrimp scampi: honestly tasted like a 3-year-old made it -- just noodles and barely seasoned shrimp with almost no butter sauce Not everything was bad though: The bread was amazing Calamari was decent Meatballs were really good Cheesecake was amazing Sangria was very good and definitely gave me a little buzz The table service outside of the bar was actually great, and the portion sizes were generous. Ambiance was ok, bar just looked messy. They probably should have more than one bartender at a busy restaurant like this. Especially on Mother's Day. Overall, I probably wouldn't return unless I specifically wanted the meatballs and sangria.

We began our dining experience munching on a scrumptious basket of garlic bread. I've found, over my many years of dining, that restaurants that serve a great bread basket always follow it up with great food, and this was Mauro. After reviewing a litany of appetizer items, we chose absolutely delicious artichokes oreganata. We followed the appetizer with an order of luscious eggplant parmigiana along with perfectly cooked al dente rigatoni. We also ordered gnocchi with a sublime pomodoro sauce. The sauce was not something typically seen, in as much it contained a nice quantity of onions. For dessert we had a debate between chocolate cake or a cannoli, keeping in mind that the restaurant is owned by a great bakery. Our waitress, Samantha (Sam) who was outstanding throughout, said it's a tossup. We finally agreed on the chocolate cake. When the dessert arrived, to our delight, there was an order of light and very tasty chocolate cake, and a creamy & crispy freshly filled cannoli, compliments of Samantha. In summary, we had an excellent meal coupled with outstanding service what more can you ask for in a restaurant? If possible, I recommend weekday dining.
