George was our bartender. He was pretty attentive. But someone had one some kind of dice jackpot and so everyone was scrambling. One, four, 24 is the name of the dice game and we played it for quite a while. They have a pool table that is a bit slanted, however, one of my buddies told me they just redid the felt on the our table so maybe it's fixed. Lots of friendly people here. Great Cali margarita. A group of our close friends came up to Tahoe for the weekend for our friend's bridal shower. Friday afternoon we went into Truckee for shopping, drinks and an early dinner. We decided to stop in to The Tourist Club for drinks. One of our friends with us had contracted a rare type of infection over the summer and ended up having to have a leg amputated to stop the spread of the infection. It was a devastating experience for her and this trip was the first time she had confidence to go anywhere with us in public. She was the second one of us to order her drink from the older male bartender with grey hair and grey goatee and she ordered a Cosmopolitan. When she ordered it the bartender replied "We don't make those kind if drinks here. Maybe if you hop on down to another bar they will make you a Cosmo". Then he walked away. He went down to the end of the bar to where another guy was sitting and said loud enough for us to hear, "I told stumpy to go to another bar if she wanted a Cosmo, ha ha ha". A moment later the bartender left to go to the back or wherever and the guy who he made that comment to, came over and said to us, "I'm sorry about that guy. He doesn't like people from out of town and can be a real a**hole sometimes. Not everyone here is like him though so don't think bad about all of us". My friend was devastated from the comments by the bartender. We left and went back to where we were staying. Our friend was crying all night. We are cutting our trip short and leaving today, a day earlier than planned because our friend just wants to go home. I don't understand how a person can be so cruel to someone just for ordering a drink. She is the kindest person in the world and has been through so much and this man just set her progress back so far. He single handedly crushed her spirit and her hope. If you are not a Truckee local I would not go to this bar. They will stop at nothing to get you to leave, including destroying a person who was just trying to find a little peace and happiness in her life after experiencing so much tragedy. read more

Not a safe space for a single woman. Upon being harassed by a drunken local man for declining to let them touch me, I received incessant verbal abuse from him of a sexual nature, & also repeatedly telling me to go and die with plenty of slurs. Bystanders were too shy to step in. Rather than making more of a scene or engaging the person, I quietly went to the bartender shaken up but composed, so that they could handle it. The bartender explained to me that the individual was very very local, and offered to "mediate" between the drunken mysogenist who had just told me to kill myself repeatedly instead of removing that wasted abusive person from the bar like any sane bartender would. It seemed like they didn't actually believe me. Sadly, the abuser proceeded to follow me into the next establishment that I fled to, so I just ended the night. I went back the next day to address the issue with management because I too live in Truckee and care about the culture here. I was told that I should write a report about the events for the owners, like some sort of homework assignment. Offered no an apology for the damaging experience & dismissed. So here is the report on yelp ya'll. I'm very sad to write this as the crowd for playing pool was decent, and I had fun until learning that unprovoked locals would be allowed to harass me. If I could do no stars at all, I would. We had so many bad experiences at this place, especially with the brunette female bartender. My friends and I came up to Truckee on a girls trip and decided to try out their bars! This was the first and last time we would ever go here ever again. The bartender was so rude to all of us, and one of our friends ID's was expired. Knowing this, she brought her passport with her just in case. The bartender then proceeds to check her ID, says that it's expired, then is given and shown the passport and goes, "is this real?" in a rude and judgmental tone. As we proceed to sit in the bar, our friend finds a little shooter in her pocket, not knowing it's there, and she was like "oh what? I didn't know this was there", mind you she was not going to take it in respect. The same bartender yells at her screaming "GIVE ME THAT" then snatches it out of her hand and slams it into the garbage can, extra dramatic. This place only gives good service to locals and likes to be rude to tourists, especially those of color, which we all were. Everyone else around us was being treated with impeccable service. Whereas we were getting insanely rude service. Additionally, we decided to steer away from the bar and go to the pool area where we tried to make the best of our night. Then one of our friends gets harassed and slapped in the butt by a local, and the bartenders and workers did nothing about it. Worst place, service, and environment we've ever been to. read more

Came here after walking around after lunch and had some coors lights. We had a good time talking to the bartender about everything. He was a good guy. He gave us lots of pointers about the area since we've never been to Truckee. Made the place cool so we hung out longer. Love the old school rotating fans and all the decor. If I could give -10 stars I would. Horrible experience. DO NOT GO HERE. An older male (maybe 60 years old) took photos and videos of me and my friends who are in our 20s, telling us to turn around for the photos. The bartender defended the guy and told us to "take it as a compliment" and proceeded to kick us out as we told him we were not okay with it. He also threw our credit cards at us and screamed at my friends to "get the fuck out". He also told us the guy was "his friend" and he was a bartender of 35 years so the police wouldn't do anything. The worst experience at a bar I have ever had. A bartender or bar owner should never support this kind of behavior as they are the one position in charge of keeping the environment safe for everyone. Cutest/friendliest lady bartender duo when I came in Friday and Saturday night! The bar was very much alive and still the service was fairly quick. Cheap drinks, good music and a good time! Worse bar I've ever visited. The bartender was drunk and the waitress was non-existent until her friend showed-up. The bartender was slurring words and counting money. I stood at the bar for 10 minutes and I never received service. There was about 8-10 people in the bar with 2 employees. We came to visit Tahoe during a slow time which we enjoyed. We were visiting so, this place was just right for us. The waitress was very friendly and was very interested on how we liked our drinks. Honestly, she's been the first bartender that ever asked me if I preferred lemon or lime with my soda water and vodka. I usually have to mention it after the fact, when I forget to point it out. ;) We were there for about an hour and had two drinks each. We definitely enjoyed the incoming crowd. If zero stars were available, this establishment would merit it. Allow me to elaborate: We came here with our friends who live in Truckee. The overall environment was mellow and fun, and the night began with an appropriate level of inebriation and jollities. Lots of locals in this joint, and a good young crowd. Usually a place like this would receive a minimum of 3 stars off the bat, tack on the fact that they serve PBR and have 3 bathrooms...all things considered it COULD have received a 4/5 star review. HOWEVER, the staff deserves negative a million billion trillion stars. After befriending the bartender, Seth, and downing some beers, my girlfriend and I were making new friends, singing along with the karaoke and chilling at the bar. As we drunkenly made out for a moment, we felt a sudden stream of cold wetness begin to drench us. We looked up to see our recently befriended bartender shooting us with the drink gun. All in good fun, we laughed, befuddled as to why we were being picked on (not locals? making out too flagrantly? being so good looking? the world may never know), but continued on our merry night, boozing but a few degrees colder. Roughly 5 minutes later we see Drunky McGee (a.k.a. Seth) reaching for the drink gun again. Attempting a duck behind friends, we somehow end up dripping wet after round two of undeserved inexplicable cold water attack. At this point, this is fucked. Why? I mean, seriously, WHY? So we go to approach the bar. Bartender 2, whose name is unknown, refuses to speak to us about the scenario, clearly embarrassed by his co-workers complete d-bag behavior, but impotent to help us out. We then approach our protagonist Seth. My girlfriend attempts the friendly route, asking with a smile that he at least buy us a round of shitty beer to alleviate the cold from her long, soaking wet hair. He unctuously flirts with her in front of me, then denies any drink rewards for the water Olympics. So I take it upon myself to confront him. Let me preface this with the fact that I am not a confrontational person. The conversation went something like this: Me: "Hey buddy, I'm Morgen. (We shake hands, again, realizing that his Neanderthal mind would not recall that we were introduced a mere hour before.) I gotta say, it would be really nice if you hooked it up after drenching us with water." Seth: "Whats that? You want to get sprayed again?" Me: "No. I do not want to get sprayed again. Why exactly did you spray us in the first place? It was pretty dick. I think it would be chill if you made amends by at least hooking it up with a round." Seth: (probably confused by the use of the word amends) "What? You want to get sprayed again?" Me: "No, I do not want to get sprayed again." Seth then proceeds to grab the drink gun, AGAIN, and spray the two of us. Yes. Let me repeat that. He again sprays my girlfriend and myself with water for the third time. At this point a few other people step in, trying to figure out what the fuck is going on. As the situation escalates, we decide to be done with the entire scenario and simply leave. But wait, Seth is now yelling at me, and wants to know my name! I INTRODUCED MYSELF TO YOU TWICE AND SHOOK YOUR HAND YOU INANE CRETAN. Don't worry about it Seth. So we left, never to return. EVER. True and utter ass hole bartender. Can SOMEONE explain to me why we were soaked in the first place? Or why this vapid piece of shit Seth felt compelled to perpetuate his dick behavior? I will never come back here, and will deter any and all friends from doing so. And Seth, if you ever get the blessed opportunity to read this review, go to AA, get an education, and get fucked. read more

I didn't spend a lot of time here, yet it was apparent that this place has a lot more character than your average dive bar. It was a Sunday, and even though it's located in the toursity old downtown with families eating ice cream cones outside, the bar was still plenty full with what seemed to be regulars - shooting pool, taking group shots, imbibing on a little hair of the dog. Above the bar is a morbid display of several mounted deer heads (Ace Ventura: "This is a lovely room of death." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRMvvds6MpM). The most amusing feature, which could literally have kept me entertained for hours, was their totally unique collection of photographs spanning what must be many decades on the wall opposite the bar. This place is ALL about the locals. They got served first and repeatedly before us and the place wasn't even two deep. If you're going to ignore the other customers that's fine....but at least pretend that you're working while you're chatting up local chicks at the end of the bar. This is the epitome of the 3 meter dive bar. Full commitment here...and a local testimonial to the taxidermist. I was "escorted " out of here in 1987 for conduct unbecoming a sober human. So revisiting an old friend brings back many memories of too many...and cold drives back to Squaw Valley with the windows open for double yellow line clarity. Also, note to past self: don't use the locals billiards table as an income tool. See above "escorted" out with extreme prejudice. My dad was in town and specifically asked for a fun place with pool and cheap beer, so to the Tourist Club we went! It was pretty early so the place wasn't too busy, so we went straight to the pool table. The thing is kind of a hot mess (there's a dent in the cue ball), and it's positioned in a way where you can't really shoot with a normal-sized cue from two sides of the table. Could they move it over a foot or two? Maybe? Anyways, the thing had charm, and I was playing pretty well so maybe I have some sort of mystical bond with crappy pool tables. Whatever, I was appreciative. Also, the bartender was this super adorable girl who got us our beers STAT. And who can complain about $2 PBRs on tap? The place is filled with burly locals in flannel, for which I am also appreciative. Me likes snowy lumberjacks. The only real downside is how effing COLD it is in there! Arctic tundra, seriously. I'm pretty sure the place didn't have heat. I get that booze warms the body and soul but it takes awhile for me to get there, and wearing a full-on down puffer jacket while shooting pool is a bit of an impediment. read more

Talk about a dive bar! The place is one long bar with not many liquors to chose from which is totally fine because that's the point of this type of bar. The bartender was super nice and spoke with us the majority of the time we were there. They do have a popcorn machine which is tasty and will have you ordering more beers! I get not serving people that are belligerent but that was not me and it was verified by others who were trying to buy drinks for me and saying the bartender was out of line. If you know me at all, you know I fancy a good dive bar. And often times, the grittier, dirtier, and sleazier the place is, the better. Well, after traversing the entire village of Truckee, California... watering holes pretty much left us with two options: this dump, or Pastime Bar. The two establishments couldn't be any more different. Whereas Pastime Bar is a hyphey spot for youngsters looking to wile out, Tourist Bar is accepting of any crotchety local with BA (and I'm referring to the Baracus type of "BA", not the Bachelor of Arts type), and geezers with a long history of alcoholism. That's not always a bad thing, either. I mean, one of my favorite bars in San Francisco is HaRa Club, and that place sucks. But it sucks soooooo good! Upon entry to the Tourist Club, two people from our party were accosted and threatened to have our asses kicked for no good reason at all (myself included). First up, one of our friends was engaged in a game of pool, and when he politely asked if a Tapout shirt-wearing local would move just an inch or so to make room for the pool cue, the inquiry was returned with "If you touch me, I'll rip your fucking arms off." Then it was my turn. One of the locals got in my face and asked me "what's your name?" I replied just as I do when I meet anybody who is curious to know what I go by, and replied with, "Ruggy." Well, for whatever reason, this really set the guy off. Apparently he thought I was mocking his interest, so he grabbed a few pals and cornered me against the wall with intentions to do who-knows-what to my face and body. I'm not much of a fighter, as I'm usually always able to charm my way out of sticky situations.... and this altercation was no different. With a little smooth talking, I was able to diffuse the situation, and I even got a goodbye hug from the instigator of the tiff. After that incident, we decided to slip out and find a friendlier place to spend part of our three-day weekend... but not because we didn't want to stay. The drinks were cheap, the bartenders were very friendly, and outside of those kunckleheads that went out of their way to be asses, it had potential to be a fun hang. Not sure if that's the scene regularly, but these three jokers seemed to know everyone behind the bar, so me thinks they make a habit of proving their bravado whenever confronted with an unfamiliar face. If you'd rather just enjoy a beer with friends without fear of getting jumped for reasons unknown, you might want to head elsewhere. read more
