I spontaneously stopped in for breakfast today and asked to be seated on the patio. The view and ambiance were perfect for dining alone as I was today. I sat for over 20 minutes before I went back inside and asked for the bartender to find out who my server was. She immediately got me water and rather than find my server, who she referred to as Chris, she took my order and got my meal started. I am disappointed that I did not receive an apology or offer to compensate for my meal. It was a beautiful place and I felt invisible and most likely will not return or recommend. Never have eaten here before a friend took us and it was well worth the time and money. To many places just serve up food on a plate without any real love for what they do but here the chef took great thought and time into not only preparation but seasoning of each dish we had it was great dining experience the service was superb and the ambience by the water added to it all try it. read more

We sat outside and the sunset was stunning. Our drinks (delicious) and bread basket arrived promptly. Our group of 3 ordered: - Southern California Roll - Pineapple Express Roll - 1976 salad (small) with shrimp Our 16 year old enjoyed the Southern California roll. However, the Pineapple Express Roll was not as described. There was no spicy tuna but instead was a very small piece of tuna that appeared that it may have been seared. The pineapple was the smallest sliver one could imagine. The shrimp seemed to be a bit undercooked. The seaweed wrap was incredibly chewy. This roll was so unappetizing that it wasn't eaten. Our server recognized this and had it removed from our bill. The 1976 salad (small) was tasty. However, I felt the shrimp add-on was overpriced. ($14 for 4 average size shrimp) The crème brûlée was creamy. Overall we were unimpressed. read more

This was our first visit at Pier 22. We were able to get reservations the afternoon and get in later that evening, which was great. The view as mentioned by others is good. Upon being sat and ordering we waited roughly an hour before getting even our appetizers. The service continued that way throughout the evening with everything. We got a desert to go after our meal and that took an additional 15 minutes. The service was very disappointing. The food is the reason I did not just give the restaurant one star. I had the shrimp "catch of the day" which as outstanding. My son had the black and cod Alfredo which was also excellent. Recommend the food and view but hopefully the service is not always below substandard. read more

Wife and I came here for brunch and had a fantastic experience...again. Location is on the water with great views. Upscale but not stuffy is how I describe the vibe , linen table clothes and real silverware .. great place for a special meal or weekly if you have the money. The brunch offers both breakfast and lunch entrees and has a great selection of options . Wife ordered the croissant egg sandwich which she said was the "Best" she has ever had .. croissants and desserts are made on premises and it shows , I had the smoked salmon omlette with home fries .. omelette was excellent . I wasn't expecting all that great of food honestly but the sushi, unexpectedly, surprised me. It doesn't come with superior presentation. In fact, when our plate was placed on the table we raised an eyebrow and wondered if we had made a mistake. But the taste won us over. The soup of the day, broccoli cheddar was also very good. Entree wise, all three dishes were decent. The seafood jambalaya had a large amount of protein and seafood. The chicken cordon blue was probably our favorite of the entrees. And the chicken pasta was alright, not anything too special. The bread and butter was surprisingly great too! Drinks were poured heavy. Can't complain! A slow evening We had gone to Pier 22 some years ago and didn't have the best experience, but memories fade and second chances given, and we returned last night. This visit didn't go particularly great either. Liked the place, the food was ok, the service much too slow. Self parking is still not good, but that may just be an inevitable problem based on the location. It is a popular restaurant, quite busy, with a wonderful view of the Manatee River. As for the food, I started with their Baked Onion Soup. Looked great, tasted wrong. I'm all for salty French Onion Soup, even though my wife tells me it isn't supposed to be too salty. This was not salty. I've also had sweet onion soup, not as good as salty to me but still fine. This was not sweet. What I had last night was sour tasting. I learned another style is made with vinegar, which is apparently what I had. And it looked so good, too. I moved from that disappointment to one of their specials, Prime Rib. Now, this was good, except I thought the meat was a little tough. In comparing thoughts with another diner who ordered the same thing, we concluded it just wasn't a great cut of meat. This was not an inexpensive dinner. My wife was not pleased with her Steak Salad, and another person dining with us did not speak well of his Chicken Chevre. Dinner took a couple of hours. It took too long for our server to come and take our order. The soup was not quick, but at this point I was still ok, you don't just ladle out Baked Onion Soup and bring it to the table. It was the 30 minute wait from the time we finished our soups until our entrees arrived that killed it for me. Baked Onion Soup is also a soup you just don't slurp down, so think of all the time they had to prepare the entrees. Time the food so when the soup is done the entrees are ready. You missed it by 30 minutes. I even started timing how long it took to drop off the bill (too long), how long to pick up the bill (much too long), how long to bring back the bill (not bad), when these activities started to drag on. By the time we left we were more than ready to get out of that place. read more

Food/Drink 5/5 We went here twice for dinner. They did not disappoint. The first night we started with a happy hour cocktail and spicy tuna roll that was delicious. I had the grouper piccata, corn risotto and spinach. My wife had the diver scallops, sticky rice and Chinese vegetables. We wanted to lick the plate it was that good. The second night we started with the grouper /artichoke gratin appetizer that was so good we got one to go!! We both had the tenderloin filet (10oz) cooked to perfection and seasoned well. It came with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. They had an extensive wine list with good selections. For dessert both nights we shared a triple chocolate mousse cake. We had an okay experience. We sat outside for the evening on the patio by the water, not a great view compared to Riverhouse. We ordered a few small plates off the happy hour menu to share & had two drinks each. We had the pier 22 sangria, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, California Roll, Poutine, Margherita Flatbread & Mediterranean Chopped. Everything was below average besides the Margherita flatbread and pier 22 sangria. We sat under the white tents on the patio & it rained earlier in the day. We were sat right by the edge of the tent & the wind blow all the water from on top of the tent onto our food, drinks & all over me. I was left extremely wet & my salad & drink were ruined. I was left with only an apology and had to wipe down the table myself with my napkin & wasn't offered a new drink or salad. Definitely wasn't the restaurants fault with the water accident but would have been nice to get a new drink & salad since I just spent over $60 on this meal. Was pretty disappointed, especially since I was so excited to try Pier 22 since I've moved here two months ago. read more

Everything else has that old out dated restaurant smell, taste and feel. I bet this place was the bomb in 1997. We won't be back. The broccolini was cooked to just before goop stage. Risotto clumpy and tasteless and beurre blanc sauce too creamy heavy. Not much taste. We also had the Monte Cristo appetizer roll. So much breading, the most I've ever seen. It's unfortunate because I really had high expectations for this place and I knew I should've trusted Yelp and steered away from a place with only three and a half stars. I had been here years ago. It has a great view. We went with another couple this time and like the first time, I wasn't very impressed. We were seated inside near the window and I'm not sure if there was rotting wood around the windows or if it was the carpet. I smelled it through dinner which was a turnoff. Really beautiful location right on the water, perfect for group outings, brunch, events, etc. we came for brunch on Saturday and we're seated immediately inside. Outdoor dining did have quite a wait and I am sure it is worth it but we were starving so we opted for first available. The brunch menu is perfectly sized, not too large but definitely not small. I got the shrimp and grits which was absolutely delightful. I would have loved a bit more shrimp but I was perfectly content and full afterwards. We also had the beignets to start which were extremely moist and delectable. The food came out extremely quick, we actually waited longer for the server to come to our table to take our order. Waters were refilled quickly and efficiently and the price point was not bad at all. Will definitely be back to try some more menu items out! read more

First, let me say the food is amazing. There are great views of the river and if you are there in the evening, what a perfect spot for the sunset. The service we had was good, but a little underwhelming for the price, high expectations I guess. Reservations are recommended, it was really slow the night we were there, still had trouble getting the wait staff to keep up with our needs. We've been to Pier 22 a few times now and have enjoyed it each time. You absolutely can't beat the view. I also love that so much of their food is actually prepared right there at the restaurant. I have been told that they make their own salad dressings, desserts, etc. We went last week and had Kelly again for our server. She is the most darling and vivacious blonde- who really seems to care about the customers. She did a great job making sure we constantly had everything we needed. I love it when I don't have to ask the server 29 times to refill my water glass! I never had to ask once. We usually go for dinner, but last time just went during happy hour and I had the home made blue cheese potato chips. YUMMMM! They were enough for me, and I didn't need anything else. The martini was pretty darned delightful too! When you go, ask if Kelly is working- you'll get great service.The one unfortunate thing was that we had asked for Kelly, her station was inside the porch area. We would have much preferred the outside area on the water, but they always seem to give this server the crappiest area to work. We felt like it was worth it to get her, so we gave up a bit of the view. read more

Our server was wonderful and never hard to get the attention of. We all loved our meals. We had been dining on Anna Maria Island all week so I can't compare pricing and quality to other Bradenton restaurants, but Pier 22 was significantly higher-quality and lower-priced than anywhere we went out on AMI. A real treat for the end of the week. But the real star at Pier 22 is the atmosphere. Customers can choose from an upscale dining room indoors, a classy, roofed but open air...I guess they call it patio? Or get right next to the water under a pleasant tent. If we return to the area we'll be back to Pier 22. read more
