I usually love coming to this location because it is right in my neighborhood, the store is always clean, and the staff is consistently warm, friendly, and helpful. Buying our birthday cakes here has been a go to tradition for our family for a long time. Unfortunately, my most recent purchase was a huge letdown. I got the Matcha Strawberry Cake on the day of the celebration, but the cake base was completely wet, soggy, and mushy right where it met the cream and strawberry filling. Instead of the light, airy matcha sponge we normally look forward to, the texture was heavy and gummy, almost like it had been sitting in the display fridge absorbing moisture for days or the fruit had not been properly prepped. I really appreciate the great customer service here, which is why this review hurts to write, but the quality control on the bakery side this time around was unacceptable. Connected to our Best Western Grand hotel, convenient location for us to get a quick fresh pastry. I noticed this place is a chain, because we saw these stores all around Chicago including Chinatown. My daughter loves strawberries and tried the strawberry croissant and enjoyed it. I tried the hash brown ham and cheese croissant, because I prefer savory over sweet. I did not enjoy it. I had to take it back to the counter to have it warmed up, it still wasn't that warm . It would taste better warm, so I would not recommend this savory pastry. The ketchup on top did not accompany the pastry well. I was not impressed. I'd try this place again, but definitely get something different. We had quite an array of sweets: a sweet dense Coffee-iced Croissant Donut, a luscious flakey Chocolate-Supreme-dipped Croissant, and a chewy sweetly-iced pink bumpy mochi donut with sprinkles. We had savories, too: a nicely-garlicky flakey Pastry-wrapped Frank, a rich 4-Cheese Quiche-square, and a lightly-sweet & lightly-salty crusty CrabMeat Croquette. Typically we aren't the biggest fans of chain bakeries because their food doesn't taste too fresh or maybe just misses a bit of the TLC a local one has, this has even extended to other locations we've had of this exact chain. However, whatever is going on at this Paris Baguette has us rethinking that sentiment a bit. The space was clean and the workers moved quickly. There is a wide variety of things for you to get here and the self-serve process is very easy to navigate. We opened a sliding door to one of the cases and it fell off the hinge knocking a pastry off our plate so we hope they looked into and fixed that. When we were done collecting a hedonistic amount of bites we headed over to order a coffee and sit down, all of which was speedy. Since we ordered so many pastries, we'll give a quick breakdown of each one: Pumpkin Scone - delicious with a firm bite, pumpkin flavor very welcoming Pain au Chocolat - a chocolate croissant, buttery and light with some chocolate throughout (could use more chocolate) Sugar Mochi Donut - simple but delicious, light and chewy. A very good sweet treat Pastry Frank - a hot dog in croissant-like bread. A worse version of a kolache, the one item we would say to pass on Grilled Cheese - delicious and well balanced, although the edges of the bread were a bit tough to work around Hash Brown Bread with Ham & Cheese - by far the best thing we had on their menu. Savory, cheesy, and salty all in one item. We would highly recommend it to anyone Iced Coffee - not the best, a lot of other chains do it a lot better but if you need the boost get it Again, Paris Baguette is a chain so with that comes chain expectations, but these were some pretty good pastries, and if the food is good the food is good. While traveling I saw this place was very recommended and had been craving a good matcha, so we stopped and we all got a bit of everything, I order the vanilla matcha with cold foam, the chocolate croissant and a sausage bread, first of all the matcha was great, I am very picky with my matcha and I have to say 10/10! The croissant was also sooo good it had chocolate custard inside super good, lastly my sausage bread was sooo delicious, I loved tha we can pick ourselves what we want and they can warm it up for you, place was extremely clean and tidy and I thought it was so cute , the ambiance. We stopped in for lunch to get out of the rain en route to the Field Museum the other day. It was lunchtime and briskly busy, so we were lucky to get a table, even though we had to clean it ourselves. We grabbed a tray and served ourselves- my son chose a curry sausage in pastry (surprisingly tasty), my husband had the ham and cheese baguette (very good when warmed) and I had a turkey panini (all agreed mine was the best). I didn't mind b/c i know a lot of places are short staffed but that would be my only major complaint. I wandered in here on a whim when I passed it on the way to dinner. Paris Baguette was brightly lit on a Sunday night and bustling with customers, so it immediately caught my eye. 1) They are open "late" 7am - 9pm 7 days a week 2) Their pastry displays were so beautiful and bountifully stocked even though it was in the evening and 3) They had a lot of seating in an open space on the left side of the cafe where you can sit, read, eat, chat, rest etc while looking out on Michigan Ave. TL;DR prime location, prime goods, prime hours :) You grab a tray and tongs by the entrance and make your way along the aisles/displays. Feast with your eyes and choose whatever your heart desires. Prices and items are all listed on little stands so you know what you're selecting. There's even a fridge section for salads and sandwiches, plus a huge selection of cakes by the checkout. I brought home a box of 4 things: Curry croquette Coffee croissant donut Ham & Cheese Pastry Cream bun They also have a cafe so you can order coffee, tea, and other seasonal beverages. The operations were smooth, with self-serve with the breads, pastries, buns, and then checking out near the back where the cashier will help you pack your goodies into boxes and/or bags. The checkout counter was really wide and long, so several people can checkout at the registers at the same time, and it moves the line right along. This was my first time here, and I just signed up for their rewards program too. Since my pastries were to go, I reheated them in the countertop oven the next morning and they were delicious. I ordered from Paris Baguette hoping I could get the same cake that was shown on their website... but NO! We placed a birthday cake order at least 4/5 days in advance. And when we got to the store at the time we specified, the cake wasn't ready. And when it was finally ready after 20 minutes of waiting.... It was ugly.... Looked barely like the picture online. The whip cream looked like it was slapped onto the cake in a hurry, and you could see the color of the cake on some areas but it was so unevenly covered. AND THE GHOSTS ON THERE WERE SO SMALL! My order came out quickly but once I tasted my cold brew I instantly could tell it wasn't what I ordered. What was given to me was an iced black coffee not a cold brew. I was charged a cold brew which costs more than a regular ice black coffee which was extremely bitter and warm. So it was t a cold drink and it wasn't smooth at all.
