3,5 stars I bring my dog to the Pier 6 dog run often, and she absolutely loves playing fetch here! It's a great spot for dogs to run around and burn off energy. The convenience of having the Wag Club right next door is a huge bonus--my pup loves grabbing a treat and drinking some clean water after a good play session. That said, the dog run can get a little chaotic when it's crowded, especially with some owners not paying attention to where they're throwing balls. I've seen a few dogs accidentally collide because of this. It can also get a bit gross when people don't clean up after their dogs, leaving marks on the AstroTurf. Pro tip: the best time to visit is after it rains--it tends to be less crowded and cleaner. Overall, it's a great community spot where my dog has a blast, as long as everyone is mindful of their pups! read more

Pier 6 Dog Run - The sweetest dog in the park, Possibly of Carroll Gardens - Dog Parks Near Me - New York, New York

This is a small little dog park situated my the water, right in between two brand new apartment buildings. This area in dumbo is a little quieter, not really a place you'd pass on a walk. The dog park itself is circular and filled with gravel. This is actually pretty nice because it doesn't get muddy, so your puppy stays nice and clean weather (ha) it's rain or shine. The negative - the gravel isn't the most delicate thing for your dogs paws. A couple times my dog has had minor abrasions after playing here, so I just keep an extra eye on him afterwards. Also, make sure to keep an eye out for dog poop! If you don't pick it up, it's easy for others to run straight through without realizing! read more

I really liked this park, and specially my dog. We explore many dog parks in the summer on my bike, my pup loves bike riding with me. This park has gravel which I'm not a big fan I prefer hard tops, dirt or grass but in spite of being gravel my dog had some fun. Reviewing a dog run in Brooklyn Heights when I don't even live here? Ok, fine. Staying for three weeks while friends went to California, I had the opportunity of "walking the dog" a few times, and was dreading it. New York City would be terrible for this! Not so much, I'm applying this to the dog run I used, but it was nice to see accommodations made for pet ownership. If I had any complaints, it was that their dog was so used to the place that it would wander around vs. doing its duty, and the last two times I went, they didn't have dog cleanup bags - which made me realize why they always had extras tied to the leash. read more

Adorable little enclosed dog run tucked in next to Pier 6. Really friendly people & dogs. However, my shiba inu's review is this: "Woof. Pea gravel, ick. Woof." She hated the feeling of the gravel surrounding her paws so much she tried to lift all of them at once. Let's just say it wasn't the most successful "run." Plus, there's not much shade depending on the time of day, so I wouldn't recommend coming here midday in summer. read more

The best dog run I have found so far in Brooklyn. Things it has going for it: - Has water fountain for dogs, but you have to bring water during late fall, winter and early spring since park shuts water off - Seating for dog owners - Plenty of shade - Newly installed - Great fencing, gates and entry area - Pea gravel ground cover - Good drainage - Lighting Things it has against it: - Could be a little bigger - No separate large and small dog runs - No bathrooms near run for humans - No poop bags - Right next to the BQE, so noisy The city is in the process of reinventing Brooklyn Bridge Park. This is one of the two dog runs in this park (the other needs a a lot of work) and by far the better of the two. It should be a model for future dog run renovations/installs. It may have been a perfect 5 star run if it were a little bigger, had a separate large and small dog runs and was not next to the expressway. This dog run is okay if you're in the neighborhood. Nothing I'd go out of my way for. It's a circular dog run with rocks for the flooring. There's cement bench type things for owners to sit on and a little bit of shade created by overgrown trees. There's a doggie water fountain and shower of the sorts. It's very meh. Definitely not the best dog run around. If you're facing the parking garage, it's the area to the right. It's separated from the pier 6 area. read more

My doggy loves the park and playing with his buddies, even if he doesn't get out as much now that it is 15 degrees every single day LOL. The second the temps get above 35 we are out for a quick run (it's been a long time). There is no small and big dog sections, but that is ok with me. The one thing that I wish the park had is SHADE. It gets very hot in the sun when it's warm. Over the years the trees around the park should grow a bit I would hope. read more

This park is a huge upgrade to the park we used to frequent! The space is great and very clean. Plus, it's right by the water which makes for some enjoyable views for the humans. The dogs I've encountered here have always been friendly, as have their humans. I've never been here when it's overcrowded and I don't know that it ever gets to be that way. My only complaint would be the pebbles are rather deep in some areas. In the scheme of things though that's not a big deal! read more

Hard place to find with all the trees surrounding it. But its located next to the parking lot when you get into pier 6 area. As many other reviewer said, there's no separation between big dogs and small dogs. The pea gravel makes it a good run for the dogs though. I brought my 6-month old puppy here and he had a blast meeting and playing with another pup his age. Subsequent visits have not been as fun - it just depends on the dogs/owners in the park at the time. It's not a pretty park, just a place for dogs to socialize and burn some energy. After using the Hudson River Dog runs I was EXTREMELY disappointed. This run was an afterthought, it isn't even in the park. I felt my family and dog were banished to this desolate place. No water pool on a hot day (like Hudson River Park), no view and certainly not inclusive with the other wonderful features of the rest of the park. I wish they had designated one of the many grassy areas to families that could picnic, sit and relax with their dogs. read more

It's not really on the pier...more nestled next to the big loft building. First visit today and my dog was immediately accosted by a poorly-socialized chocolate lab that kept chewing on my dog's ear and holding on to it while running around. My dog is very good natured but I could see he was getting very annoyed and it wasn't going to end well. I asked her to keep her dog away from mine as this was not OK at all. The dog walker who was handling the lab said they were "just playing", and that she was entitled to break the "maximum three dogs per person" rule because she's "there every day". Also that my dog should leave because he might react badly to getting chewed on. She just couldn't understand that chewing on other dogs faces is not OK in the dog run. I don't care if your dog's tail is wagging when he's drawing blood. Immediately another dog owner came over to tell me that I was right and this person consistently breaks the rules. He quietly confronted her about why she couldn't be there with more dogs than she could handle safely, and of course she was livid. Of course the next response was that I would never have said anything if she was a man, so SEXISM was the real problem here (hilarious, and sad). She and her friend and their seven dogs finally left after a little more lecturing about her superior status in the dog run. So watch out for entitled dog walkers who think they own this dog run and the rules don't apply to them. If you use dog walkers in the neighborhood, you may want to check to ensure your dog walker is bonded and insured, SANE, and doesn't walk your dog in a pack, for the safety of your own pet.
