My waitress was pleasant and sweet and my service was exemplary. I ordered the shrimp boil in garlic butter, which was served in a large boiling bag accompanied by plastic gloves, bib, and bucket. Included with about 2dozen! nice large shrimp were a perfectly boiled medium potato and half ear of corn for LESS than $11! Including my half dozen raw oysters, I had a totally satisfying lunch AND fun experience eating.. finger eating is always a plus, as opposed to cloth-dining. WOW! this place is yummy, so much better than the other places like it in the area. I had no idea this was a seafood bag place from the outside but it is super cute on the inside and everything is well priced. I opted for a half a pound of black mussels with corn and potatoes. Everything was good but the corn was like extra good. I will get another one added to my bag last time. I got a shooter from the bar which wasn't on the menu but they still made well however the sweet tea wasn't the best. Now why is this only a 3 star review? I had to knock stars off for the service all the way up to the management level. 1) our server was just slow, slow with everything and rarely came to our table 2) the menu spells out that there is an 18% gratuity added to parties of 8 or more. We ask for our checks and our server says "okay but first I must let you know that there is gratuity added because their are six of you" ahhhh no, not according to your menu?! Management comes and informs us they are well area of the TYPO in their menu but that is the rules. Um again, no. There's no sign indicating this ANYWHERE in the building. Good atmosphere and good music. Good drinks and well stocked bar. This establishment allows you to write on the walls which is good, but it also extends to the bathroom. The vibe is laid back, so I don't recommend coming here for an intimate setting. Food was delicious. I enjoyed the mussels, sausage, egg, lobster tail, and shrimp boil in Pier 88 sauce. Service was good. The bathrooms were a little dirty, and I judge an establishment based on the cleanliness of their bathrooms. They definitely got a side eye. Came here this past weekend with my family and have officially made it my go to spot when I visit down. Food was good (Great prices) and server (tall blonde guy) was attentive which made the experience enjoyable and pleasant. Great atmosphere and music as well. We ordered the C2 combo meal with extra potatoes and their special house sauce in mild and mozzarella sticks. I believe that they are a direct competition with Twisted Crab. Here's my take on it. We went on a early Friday night and it was jam packed with Hampton University students. I honestly thought it was a club. It was entirely too loud in there. The food tastes pretty similar to twisted crab. I can't really say one is better than the other. If you want to have a peaceful, but have more options and pay a bit more, go to the twisted crab. If you don't mind being in a noisy restaurant with affordable prices and great happy hour drinks, go to Pier 88. read more

Some were over cooked and extremely mushy, and some were impossible to peel because they flash steamed and thrown into my bag of cleanly older shrimp. No worries because it was quickly replaced. Please have kitchen shears available for the King Crab!!! That's the only criticism I have of this place. I would recommend that if you really want to taste the "old bay" flavor in your crab boil you will need to order it extra spicy. And that isn't even all that spicy. The fried catfish is lightly dusted so it's all super succulent fish. I add a pound of king crab to my boil every time I dine here. It is very frustrating trying to crack open the shell with the traditional nutcrackers because the shell gives. There is only plasticware available so you can't even use that to work up the length of the shell. Other than that I love this place- just have to wear welding gloves if I want to save my hands. Our first impression walking in was the volume of people going in and out for carryout orders... good sign we thought! Once inside, it was buzzing with laughter, music and the smell was amazing food! We were greeted and sat immediately. Our server "Hailey" was delightful and full of suggestions and info. The menus (food & drink) have plenty of choices and the Happy Hour Specials were a bonus (Sunday ALL DAY!). $48 got us 3 Appetizers (Hush Puppies, Breaded Shrimp and Calamari), 4 Beers (Stella Artois on tap!), 2 Po' Boys (both fried - Shrimp & Oyster). We highly recommend Pier 88, it has great food, with a great vibe and friendly, efficient service! Also, we noted they were capable of seating larger parties! Guaranteed, we will be regulars!!! He got a lunch combo and I ordered the signature meal with crab legs, shrimp, sausage, corn, potato, and hard boiled egg. With mine I order Cajun sauce and hot. Thankful that this place was open on Christmas, but sad to say the food was mediocre. My husband and I ordered some wings and the country boil, which lacked in flavor to say the least.
