Terrible Experience this Evening. I went to Pier 88 and request to place a to go order and to have a drink. I was informed I would need to be seated at a table which is ok. I arrived at 10:25p they close at 11:30. They asked me to wait for the table but took my to go order. At 10:50p they brought my to go order and advised they are no longer seating tables. Worst customer Service. I have NEVER been somewhere they have you wait for a table in line and seat everyone in front of you then tell you "oh we no longer seating" knowing you had been waiting. Oh I forgot to mention it's a table of 1. Easiest table ever. NEVER again to go or not. read more

Food was amazing! Atmosphere has potential as that amazing little hole in the wall IF the music were turned down to where you could hear the other person as well as the waitstaff. Trying to eat crab and muscles proved difficult with nothing but plastic utensils that couldn't even hold up to catfish. I took advice of a friend to check out this place and glad I did. My husband and I have been looking for a great seafood restaurant and this place is perfect. We came at happy hour so we enjoyed a couple of drinks and we got the pick and choose options, my hubby got the king crab and I got the snow crab, both come with potatoes and corn but the garlic butter sauce I highly recommend for the sauce choice. Didn't even know this was in the area until today! I started out with the calamari which was great! For my meal I had the shrimp with heads, corn on the cob and potatoes with a side of steamed rice! I have the biggest crawfish obsession and eat it everywhere I go, every state or country I've traveled to. Crawfish was never a big thing here in the Hampton roads area so whenever I wanted to satisfy my seafood craving I always had to travel to DC or northern Virginia. So when I heard one had opened up in Hampton I was pleasantly surprised. My mom is a huge seafood lover too, so we all picked Pier 88 to dine in and celebrate. The waiter, Chris, was funny, kind, patient and catered to everything we needed and asked with a smile. Omg I got the C3 and my fiancé got the C1! Fresh and seasoned well. My mouth watering now thinking bout it. Definitely going back

I'm so sad that I have to give such a low review. Based on food it would be a 5 stars because I have never been disappointed in anything I have ordered here. However yesterday when me and two of my friends went out for lunch it was a complete disaster. When we sat down at our table we were greeted by a waitress named Sha, she first told us that it was happy hour and that she'd get us a special menu....only to come back and say it ended today because it's the weekend.....isn't Friday a weekday tho but we didn't care we all ordered our drinks. That's when the entire disaster started. First she brought us each a water....we didn't ask for them nor did we want them so now we have three unnecessary glasses taking up space on the table .....which could be the reason why when Sha brought us our drinks she proceeded to knock mine over spilling into all over my friend and her phone, I mean she was soaked in mango and alcohol. Did Sha apologize....no she says oh you can drink what's left in the glass for free and I'll make a new one....WHAT. So next she brings me back a new drink. And as me and my friends are sitting there of course we are talking about what just happened. We were honestly debating just leaving. We have all worked in the food industry at some point in our lives so we decided to understand, but my friend's outfit was definitely ruined and she would definitely have to go buy something to wear before driving anywhere later that day. So she nicely said to Sha, that she wasn't being funny but she'd like to see a manager because of this. Sha proceeds to say she is a manager and already gave her a discount. So now Sha walks away from our table again. And doesn't come back for quite some time, when she does we can finally order our food. I order first. An appetizer for us to share and then a pound of crab legs.... everyone else orders after. And then Sha who was supposed to have been taking my order at first is going to look at me and say nothing for you....wait what at this point I really look at her....she was definitely drunk or on some kinda drugs. I repeat my order again. She scampers off. So we then have a small discuss about that cause it was like what were you writing down the first time i said my order She must have overheard us talking cause she comes back to the table and with the most attitude asks us each if our order is correct.....which is whatever. Except one of my friends was in her phone doing something, we both answered for her and Sha thought it would be a good idea to ignore the fact that we had though. She actually said to my friend with a stank ass attitude. Excuse me can you pay attention.... Hold up heffa so basically at this point her normal 15% or better tip has gone down to she can get this loose change in the bottom of my bag. So she brings out our boils, which were absolutely delicious When she sits down our food she can see all of our drinks are empty, I say hey bring us another round and put it on my check.....she says ok and walks off.....she never brought our drinks. Matter of fact we didn't see her again. Which we didn't mind. A wonderful waitress crystal took over our table. And she deserves 5786 stars for her service. She gets us our drinks as fast as possible and checked back on us more times than we had seen Sha on the floor. The manager did give us a 10% discount off our bills but honestly I don't feel like that was enough. I know my check alone was over $60 and we had all pretty much ordered the same thing... So we had all spent a good amount of money in there. I don't know if I'll be back, unless Sha isn't working there anymore. read more

Came to VA to surprise my sister and we come to Pier 88 to grab a bite. Seated immediately and service was decent very nice but shy young man who was attentive without being assertive. Had an issue with some half empty clams spoke to a manager who corrected the problem. While blue crab is on the menu, but not on season there was no substitute and I would have to pay for snow crab, I did reluctantly though. read more

The food is amazing but the atmosphere is terrible. The music is loud and you have to shout at your table. The music is also inappropriate for a restaurant. I feel as if I'm at a night club instead of an eatery. Also, it is set up like a cafeteria. Staff are more concerned with which station of music to play instead of tending to tables. read more

Wow we were highly impressed with the food here. Crab legs, mussels, clams and shrimp were delicious and the sauce even better! It was perfectly seasoned! The service was also great. I believe Courtney was the name of our waitress and she did well. I also ordered calamari which came out super quickly and was fresh out the fryer. So yummy and overall highly impressed with the food! This is by far my best go to seafood place in Hampton/Newport News. Everything is amazing. The atmosphere, waiters, drinks and food. My favorite combo has the lobster tail, corn, potato, shrimp and mussels. Add the special sauce and a glass of riesling and it was just perfection on a plate. First time coming to this place and I must admit I am impressed with the customer service. They automatically notice you are a new customer and wish to keep your business, such as giving you a beer on the house. The food is also good, the crawfish is gigantic. My family and I had the catfish basket and it was pretty good. We also had the boil with lobster, shrimp, mussel etc added on an additional 1lb of crawfish. As a college student this is a great place for cheap drinks and great food! Pier 88 has happy hour everyday except Friday and Saturday, but make up for it with an ALL DAY happy hour on Sunday. They also having daily specials throughout the week along with the happy hour that gives a lot of variety to people's selection of food/drinks! I came in after the lunch rush. It was fairly quiet at that time. I decided to order to-go so that I could get back to work. I ordered the lunch special with 3/4lb steamed with the pier 88 special mixture. I had to wait about 15 minutes for it, but it was absolutely AMAZING! Not too salty, & the corn was super good. The only complaint that I had is that it was served in a plastic bag & I had to take it back to the office & eat awkwardly. Other than that, the food was great. read more

I buy crab legs all the time. the sauce is good but not quite as good as shaking or twisted crab. The service was good but if I have to choose, I'm going to Twisted Crab across the street. I love everything about this place. I have never had a bad experience here. The food is always delicious and comes fairly quick. It comes out hot and steaming. I think you get enough food for you money as well. I recently went somewhere else for seafood and it definitely couldn't match to what is served at this establishment. This was my first time eating at this place, i came with my wife and my 9 year old son. Our server was a 4 star, she was great! The food wasn't bad at all, i would have like more sauce and more flavor. I got a half pound of shrimp, half pound of crawfish, and a lobster tail, cajun with hit for my spicy level. I like spicy food so does my wife and it wasn't spicy at all. My son had the chicken tenders and fries, the tenders were huge! And they also lacked flavor sadly . Ordered from here previously through Door Dash and the food was great. So I decided to order again and when I got the order it was completely wrong and when I contacted the restaurant I was told "We don't use Door Dash anymore" a man who I could hear in the background got on the phone and started going off about how "I canceled you guys but you still sending me orders" . When informed I was not Door Dash but the person who ordered the food the owner/manager says "We don't use them anymore we canceled them so if your order is wrong that is on you and you have to clear up with Door Dash". Complete rudeness and unwilling to understand that there was no notification that they no longer use them. If you don't use them then why not decline the order when it is sent to you?
