I have to say Pier 88 is the best seafood boil in the KC area! Give it a try! The workers are all friendly, the food is amazing, and it's a hole in the wall spot located in a strip mall of shops. We were in the mood for some seafood and decided to check out Pier 88 off of I-70. We started our meal with the hush puppies appetizer and the onion rings appetizer. Both were delicious, but I'll be craving those hush puppies again soon! We also ordered one of the specials: 1/2 lb shrimp, 1/2 lb Snow Crab Legs, 1/2 lb sausage, corn, egg, and potato for $30. We ordered Hot as our spice level, but we could've gone up a notch! Make sure to try the strawberry lemonade...it's so delicious. The food was great! Very good, great flavor. Great prices! Bad note- delivered to a hotel so we don't have plates available. The fried shrimp was in a take- out container-thank you!. Everything else (boiled shrimp, corn and potato) were just in a plastic bag all together. I would have preferred each separate in their own container. Overall, I would recommend. This was the first time I've been to the establishment. I started with a strawberry margarita. It was pretty delicious. I didn't need to add extra alcohol because it was strong enough. That is rare to find nowadays. I had mozzarella sticks and chicken wings and Cajun fries as well as the boil with crab, sausage, and shrimp. All the food was amazing!!! The service was also good. Last night my friends spoiled me at an eatery in Independence I didn't know existed there. Certainly not "new" to any of them of course lol.. since they've proudly been there Several times due to how Good it is! I couldn't agree more! The customer service was excellent! Destiny was our waitress last night and she was nothing BUT amazing to us and made sure we were comfortable, well aware of our meal options, and taken care of! ^_^ My first experience there is one I'll cherish forever! The quality of food was just ridiculous In every Great way possible. I'm also glad I opted mild spice instead of going Spicy like I usually do with this style cuisine, but I'm definitely gonna go Much spicier next time since I know it's gonna be incredible. The restaurant itself was really neat and rich with history! I appreciate how they went about allowing customers to leave some sort of signature or hand-drawn record behind wherever they sat or gathered there. Writing, drawings, and artwork was everywhere in there! That definitely added entertainment to our experience. I already know I'm going back in the future, and when I do I'm gonna had my signature and perhaps a little doodle or two! I'm bummed none of us thought to do so while there last night lol.. Went there Friday. We had the shrimp and fry baskets. You can get regular, Cajun or sweet potato. Cocktail sauce was good. Shrimp is a nice size and was cooked to perfection! Appetizer ordered calamari and not sure the sauce that came with it but it was good. Not chewy. All food was fresh!!! Spiced soda is Mr Pibb and they serve Coca Cola products. We came here as a late birthday dinner for me. We had been hearing how good it was so we came. I love seafood and so does hubs. Walking in, we were greeted and immediately seated. Our wait staff was very nice, friendly and attentive. It was interesting to see all the writing on the walls. I think they gave it a nice personal touch and a lot of seafood places on the east coast do this. It feels like they're ere trying to give the place a true seafood restaurant feel in the lovely Midwest. Now on to the food. I ordered the Low Country Boil and hubs had crawfish and shrimp and a side of sweet potato fries. We also had the fried calamari as an appetizer. Everything was as fresh as it can be in the Midwest. I remember watching Gordon Ramsey saying if you walk into a seafood restaurant and it smells like seafood, run. I'm happy to say, this place doesn't smell like seafood. The calamari was in rings but were still good. The sauce was just regular cocktail sauce. Nothing special. They bring your food out in plastic bags and you get a bucket for the shells. All true to this type of seafood. I got mince Cajun seasoned and hubs got all the seasonings. Sadly, the seasonings were in the juices but not on the food. It's like they have lots of seasoning boiling and food boiling but not boiling together. If you tasted the juices, it was delicious but the food had no seasonings on it because the justice was just poured over it. Hubs sweet potato fries were cold when they came out letting us know they were cooked before the rest of the food and was sitting. We may go back one day and order other things not boiled or maybe we won't. The food was fresh and that's always a good thing. read more

The food was pretty good and the prices weren't terrible. But the service was rough. We were a table of 8 so had gratuity added. Idk if that meant the server didn't care or what but she clearly didn't care. Didn't bring refills until we asked. Didn't get our order right then tried to charge us to fix it. Disappeared forever. A manager came and fixed our order without charging us again, which is bare minimum. So that's good. And listen I forgive bad service if someone's busy or new and genuinely trying. When we finally got our food the orders were not correct. I got sick of waiting and finally tried to cancel our order. For a place we just happened to see the sign on the highway and pulled off to give it a try, we were very satisfied. Well hello all of you wonderful people! Welcome back for another review of places to eat around this amazing city of ours. In this case I stopped in due to having meetings in the area. I had never been here nor even heard of it. Of course seeing the sign telling me that Seafood was available I pulled right in... and then when I saw the Poboy on the menu excitement ran rampant! I looked through their menu... And there are some important things to know about this place. 1. This place uses cajun style recipes. What this means is if you show up and ask if they can make it without spices and then don't like the taste of your boiled food... the fault is yours! 2. This place is a boil place. There is limited other items on the menu. They do have some fried items and some poboys but their main focus is the bags of boil. So this is most likely what you should get when you get there. 3. Read the menu carefully and ask questions. The poboy I ordered has a version of coleslaw of fresh vegetables. My food was good. And the service was optimal. I really like being able to order their green mussels for carryout. They come in a big bag along with a small corn on the cob and a few potatoes. They taste great, and come with plastic gloves and a bib. The food is ready quickly, and they've never messed up the order. You're better off calling directly rather than ordering online, however, because there is an upcharge of several dollars if you order online. read more

I didn't expect to see this place while looking for a place to dine in KC. It definitely provides options for dining customers looking for something different. Ordered a pound of shrimp with the 88 Special sauce. I recommend it and will definitely try it again (but maybe with Crab Legs) when we visit KC again. read more
