We had a company lunch here about 3 times in 2 months. Every time I come here, it is an absolute pleasure. The waitress is always pleasant (I do apologize, I forget names and lot). Safe to say though, all the wait staff here is very friendly and fast. 2 of the 3 times I have came here, I ordered the pork chop. Yes, the pork chop is around $30; however, it is something to drool over. When you cut the pork chop, it just melts like an A5 wagyu. You don't need to put any force to cut this pork chop. The chop is well seasoned and pairs very well with the mashed potatoes or even a fresh salad. The beans are something I never thought I would compliment. It is smokey, meaty, and has a slight tang to it all at the same time. We'll worth a try as a side. Idaho potatoes that are loaded? Well, it's a potato. I would go with their mashed potatoes if you would like a potato item. Their baked potato needs just a bit more cooking time to make that creamy loaded potato. Their dessert items are on par with a professional bakery. The key lime cheesecake had a fresh zing. The cream they put on the cheesecake is light and airy. First and last time eating at Charleston's. Lunch was a huge disappointment. The miniscule $ 9 potato soup was 4 bites of mediocrity. The Reuben was served on thick, white Texas toast (blasphemy!) and the meat was beef jerky-dry. Not much more to say other than it's like an overpriced Applebee's (sorry Applebee's). read more

Went with my aunt and uncle after church. After skipping breakfast, I was starving. My starter was a cup of beef and vegetable soup. And everything was cooked to the point where the meat and vegetables just dissolved it was flavorful. Our waitress Ally was extremely attentive clearing plates and refilling glasses and informative. My only question before ordering the Rueben was regarding what I almost ordered the hickory burger but wasn't interested in the Canadian bacon (ham) on a hamburger. Had lunch at Charleston's on State Line road during restaurant week today. Nice atmosphere, plenty of seating and very clean. On the menu for $20, had the potato soup, Grilled Chicken & Avocado Club sandwich and unsweetened tea. Tristen was my server and performed flawlessly. Kept my tea refreshed, checked-in a few times and even prepared a tea-to-go. Will definitely revisit and kudos to Management for excellent training. read more

This is my first time at this location and overall, my experience was really good. The staff was friendly and attentive especially considering we had such a large party. There were 8 of us. The food was good, although I was little bothered because I ordered fish tacos comes with beans and rice but it had pork in it!! Not mentioned anywhere in the description did it mention that the beans had pork in it and I'm a pescatarian! Thankfully I saw it before I ate it and one of our waitresses, graciously substituted it out for some of their coleslaw. I also got a side of burgundy mushrooms. For my adult beverage, I got fall old fashioned. It was good, but I wish I had stirred it before I drank it because I tasted most of the spices at the end of the drink. Our table got appetizers that included the spinach and artichoke dip, which was amazing.And they also got the escargot shrimp, which my family said was grea, but I don't know because i'm allergic to shellfish. My kid got the ribs with mashed potatoes and fries and really enjoyed them.And my husband got the fish and chips I got to nibble on his fish.It was very tasty. Came here after an event near by. We were dressed a little nicer and wanted to take advantage of the situation. We were seated promptly when we arrived and our waitress was very attentive. They had several things on the menu that appealed to me. I asked for a recommendation, and was suggested to get the shrimp scampi. I was very happy with my decision, it was delicious. I'm a regular at Charlestons. I travel for work & they have some restaurants in Oklahoma. The main reason I go is because of their similarities to the Houston's restaurants we raised our kids on in Kansas City and if you travel through the south they are found in many cities i.e. Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Memphis, & Atlanta. The owner of the Charleston chain of restaurants has direct financial ties to the original Houston's brand so many of the recipes are the same. They offer amazing spinach and artichoke dip. I'm is it as good as Houston's spin dip? Nah. But it's as close as you will ever find. The only difference I can tell is that the chips are thinner & don't support the dip from plate to mouth. The spinach and artichoke dip is what drew me to the restaurant this particular night. I like sitting at the bar and was welcomed by both bartenders. They were very kind and courteous. They made a special effort to learn my name and of course I remember their names They delivered my drink swiftly and brought my spinach and artichoke dip in a reasonable amount of time. Something happened that for some reason , and I know I am picky, but I am about to pay $20 for a Coke and an appetizer so I expect good service to compensate for the additional amount I'm paying. When they brought my food to me, they didn't bring me any silverware or a napkin. There was a spoon in the Sour cream when. A few minutes later, I asked for a napkin and the bartender reached over next to her and picked up paper napkins and handed them to me. Everybody in the entire restaurant gets a cloth napkin with silverware. That's just basics so that's why my rating is three stars. After trying to reach the manager several times, I give up! This is the second KC restaurant recommended for fans of the gone-but-never-forgotten Houston's. It does have some of the old Houston's faves on the menu (not the Asian chicken salad, though- don't come here looking for that). My dining companion chose chips and queso as the appetizer. Not what I would have chosen outside of a Mexican restaurant, but I have to say it was executed perfectly and I would order it again. For nostalgia's sake we both had the Hawaiian ribeye with fries. They arrived cooked as ordered and was close to the original flavor that we remember. The other place that serves a version of this steak is actually a better representation to me, though. Also the fries were standard and boring and not great. Service was attentive but unfussy, which I really like. Ambiance is upscale casual. We would go back if in the area. read more

Charleston was nothing less than amazing yesterday for my uncles birthday! I haven't been to one in years as they all closed in AZ, so I was excited to check them out. When my mom and I arrived, a few people were already there, so we checked out the menu. The menu is tiny but mighty with a great mix of sandwiches, burgers, pasta, chicken, and salads. I always try to pick something I can not make at home, so I ordered the fish and chips. Our waiters came by, and I was encouraged to order this. I went with it, and instead of the fries, I got the broccoli. To drink, I got their NA blackberry punch. Everything was amazing! The NA punch had a little hint of sweetness but was fruity and tart as well from the ginger beer and blackberry. My food was delicious, and it did not need any sauce or spices, especially the fish and broccoli. The coleslaw was cool and creamy with a nice crunch. The broccoli was bright green with a crunch and had a small river of butter under it that made my taste buds sing. And the fish, light and flaky and just fried enough for that crunch. I wish that the pieces were a little bigger and that my stomach was bigger too! They give you a good amount of food! It makes awesome leftovers. I liked the attentive service and that we were able to put in a reservation and able to sit at not only our tables but also a few surrounding it. For next time, it would be great to be able to reserve the private room for noise and conversations. read more

I would like to commend the bartender for their exceptional work. My mother and I enjoyed the shrimp scampi pasta, and it was quite delicious, especially for my first experience with this dish. I added chicken to my portion, which complemented the lemon butter sauce beautifully. One of the waitresses mentioned that she had never considered adding chicken and intends to try it herself next time she orders the pasta. We received our food promptly and it was delicious; we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The staff were friendly and attentive. While the restaurant was a little cool, we were soon warmed by our delightful meal. This establishment is an excellent choice for a pleasant outing, brunch, or dinner. What a great spot. Met some friends for lunch who come here regularly and assured me that no matter what I ordered I would love it. I ordered the chicken piccata. It was delightfully full of veggies and the side of Brussel's sprouts were crispy and tossed in a bit of chilli sauce. The chicken was thin and tender. However, the serving size was rather small. I expected more pasta. I are every morsel but the cost is hard to justify when I had "just" enough to eat. The service was excellent. I got the Caesar salad with salmon. There were six of us. They put some sauce on the salmon that overwhelmed the salmon flavors. They must have used a lot of anchovies or added horseradish to the salad because it was extremely spicy. I didn't care for the sauce or dressing. My husband didn't like his dish either. The kids steak meal was a hit with our grandson. They were offering a specialty cocktail for Breast Cancer Awareness. It was fabulous. It's a little loud making it difficult to hold a conversation. Drink refills were handled by multiple staff and always pleasant. We received our apps in a timely fashion but it seemed we waited a good while before our main courses were delivered. No one had a lukewarm plate so everything was served hot. He even remembered why we were there and asked our birthday girl how she enjoyed her meal. We were in Kansas City the day after Thanksgiving, having driven from Wichita, Kansas for the day. After a tour of Kauffman Stadium, we were searched for a restaurant with a variety of food that would satisfy all 3 of us. Thank you, Yelp, for assisting with our search! The restaurant was just off the main road and highly visible. Once inside, between the smells and the modern look, we figured we had made a good decision. The service was a little less than we had hoped. We were ready to order and no one seemed to notice. Eventually, we believe it was a manager that came by and took our order. The food was amazing. I had a salad, my husband had the Fish and Chips and my niece had a Steak. Everything came out looking good, and tasting awesome. The Fish was flaky, was a good portion, along with the delicious Cole slaw. My niece's steak was well cooked and tasty, along with the fresh, tender, mixed veggies. Just had a pre-Christmas dinner here and had a great time! It's a nice atmosphere, very attractive and comfortable, although a little noisy in the bar area. They have some special beverages at happy hour, including a quite good margarita in a shaker that is the equivalent of 3 margaritas for just $8. I had shrimp scampi with the requisite angel hair pasta, which was delicious. My two friends had chicken piccata and they both loved it. The service was very good. And always important and a telling factor about the cleanliness of a restaurant, the bathrooms are clean and attractive. What more could you want? And when you step outside, you have a fabulous view of the biggest, brightest Christmas tree I've ever seen, and a nice fire pit surrounded by chairs. I recommend coming here for the food, the weekday Happy Hour beverages, and to see the outdoor holiday decor! I became familiar with Charleston's when I lived in Oklahoma City, and when we moved to Kansas City, my wife and I missed it dearly. I was amazed that one opened up only a short distance from our house; it was like going home again! Charleston's is, by far, one of the best steak places I have eaten, if I didn't want to pay $100 for the food. My wife and I continue to use this as our go-to place when we want a steak for a date night. It feels upscale inside, but it comes without the upscale price. Yes, you'll pay more for the food than at some places, but nothing extreme. While it is true that the place can have hit-and-miss days on service, the food is never a miss. If I go here, I will get a consistently tasty meal in an environment that doesn't make you go deaf with the music or blind you with lights and art. It's simply "unfooled around with." And the croissants... be careful. You may fill up on them, but you will have no regrets. Remember to call ahead if you want to go there. Some days, it can be crazy busy, and you may have to wait for a long time. This store is in an upscale shopping center and shares a courtyard with other restaurants. This is great because my kids can run in the courtyard while we wait for the food, and they will be covered and probably have some other kids to play with. read more

This is a management on duty problem... who doesn't know/care enough to double check corrected orders. The chef made these ingredients for a reason... so the combination of textures complement the flavors. It's just a salad? Yes! So it's NOT rocket science to get right the FIRST time! The psychological annoyance of how anyone can f-ck up an order TWICE on the same night... Grade F. To the District manager of Charlestons: This is YOUR team. We go here periodically. I have eaten at Charleston's a few times, or should I say dined at because it tends to reflect more of a high end establishment instead of casual sit down restaurant. And the prices do as well however, I have yet to find food on the menu that reflects such and overall the menu is uninspired and boring. If you are looking to find any sort of chefs specials here is not the place. Located inside the newly added on part of Wardparkway Shopping Center Charleston's share occupancy with a cluster of lower end more laid back restaurants such as, Torchys Tacos, Smittys Burgers, and Hawaiian Bros. So, the location choice to me is odd, it just doesn't belong. Charleston's is on average more stuffy and expensive than a Hollihans but, the food quality in my opinion is lower. I have tried fish, steak and the said to be famous baked potatoe soup, which as a proud Midwestern I can say is seasoned adequately but overall is just alright. The salmon salad I ordered upon last visit was pretty tasty and did come with a super decadent crossaint bread roll with sweet sticky honey butter, which was a nice surprise. I also did appreciate the including of a Malbec on the menu which was incredibly smooth. Will I choose Charleston's again? Hard to say, maybe if I am in the area and I'm looking to add a little bit of class into a rather mundane day, and I'm willing to overpay for it or if someone suggests it who is paying for it, then sure why not?
