What a great restaurant to compliment the La Mer Resort. My party and I stayed here for 1 night while we visited Cape May and ate out at this joint for dinner. It has a really nice outdoor seating area along with performer singing and playing the guitar the whole night. Great ambiance and even better service. The staff are super friendly and are very good at handling allergies. I told my waiter of my food allergy and they tripled checked everything. We ordered a few starters in the beginning. We got fried Calamari, steak tip, and clams. The food was pretty good. The steak tip flat bread was a bit dry and didn't have that savory taste to it that I had expected. This was similar to the clams. Calamari was good. For my entree, I got the pork chop. This was pretty amazing. Soo much juice was in it and with the Apple maple sauce; it was sweet with some salty kick to it. Plus, with some vegetables, it made for a delicious and healthy meal. Would recommend! read more

We came here for dinner at the recommendation of a friend. We were able to get a reservation same day with seating outside. It was a nice evening. The staff welcomed us and was friendly. Service was good. Portions are generous. For appetizer we had the French onion soup, Mac and cheese, and the beet salad. All 3 were delicious. For main entree we ordered the sesame crusted tuna special which was good but over cooked. We also had the filet which was good. Nice place and good food. read more

I'll start by saying .. our waitress Maya & manager Donna were spectacular!! We arrived promptly at 7:30 party of 8. We were seated right away, there were several empty tables ... not sure if it was just a staff or social distance thing . We are a loud group ourselves & it was soo loud probably due to all the windows . Great place probably for breakfast or lunch .. Zero ambiance for dinner . Prices definitely too high for this atmosphere!! We ordered drinks waitress did advise all new bartenders.. after 35 minutes we asked hostess to ck situation, manager promptly apologized said they were on the house ! She was lovely! Apps arrived shortly after with one missing soup that took awhile to hunt down..they were fine. We ordered 4 $48 Filets.. I politely told the waitress if they were not rare to mid rare .. they would go back! She advised she would have Chef keep a watch !! Chef???? Really u can't cook a filet ?? Find a new profession!! Steaks were medium well at best !! Hubby took mine since was not as well as his .. he dealt with his... Two were returned, when I got mine back the best way I could describe was eating sand off the beach.. such a struggle! Worst Filet ever .. my friend hated hers too!!! And the mash potatoes were cold, thick & more than likely boxed ..Manager offered dessert .. but at that point & the fact they didn't have cheesecake one of our friends wanted ... we settled for Cappuccino! Service and ambiance was great, although one of desserts was disappointing and nothing was done about it. Food was pretty good, but one of our entrees was a little weird and the appetizer seemed expensive for what it was. We ordered the crab and mango tini appetizer, swordfish, blackened tuna, chocolate mousse, and tiramisu. Crab tini was good, but very sweet and $17. Swordfish was great, but the tuna was not my favorite and different from other blackened tuna I've had. It felt like the blackened seasoning was too much (like Cajun seasoning) and also didn't feel seared enough on the outside. The chocolate mousse felt like I was eating straight chocolate ganache and not a fluffy mousse. Tiramisu was good. read more

Wow we had an amazing dinner last night celebrating my birthday. I had the halibut, Brussels sprouts, crab stuffed shrimp and calamari. Everything I had was absolutely delicious and everyone commented as well on how good it was. It was such a delightful environment and you can tell they really put some care into the esthetic. The Pier House used to be a favorite of my family's, but things have changed... not quite sure what happened. The new patio upgrade is beautiful, but unfortunately the food has downgraded. The rigatoni a la vodka was foul. The pasta was swimming in olive oil. You could literally see the separation of sauce and oil on the plate. The salmon was unimpressive, and served alongside a bland side of rice that was comparable to rice from a Chinese takeout carton. The crab cakes are $50 and you get 2 bites. Everything was flavorless, so some salt would've helped, but even the salt shaker didn't work! Waitress Sara was nice and attentive, but a bit too much. I came here for my birthday with my boyfriend and this was my favorite restaurant in Cape May. The hostess was super friendly and when she said wait time would be 30 minutes she explained that we could enjoy a drink by the outside bar. Outside there are many chairs for you to sit on and enjoy the live music being played. Wait time flew by and we were seated. The food was delicious! Our appetizer was the margarita flatbread, SO good! I had the salmon and my boyfriend had the sea bass. We both loved our meals so much that we made a dinner reservation for the following day. My sister and I were looking forward to a nice dinner. The restaurant looked very nice and we had a table out on the terrace. Neither of us were very hungry so we decided to share a meal. Our waiter informed us that there would be a $10 charge for sharing. Which was fine however when they brought out the meal it was on one plate. We have shared meals before at other restaurants. Which they would split and bring out on two separate plates. We were not given additional plates. We had to ask one of the staff members to bring us plates. We were then given very small appetizer plates. If they are not going to split the meal and put it on separate plates for us then why the extra charge??? Also they had a new fall cocktail list. When my sister asked for a pumpkin martini which was on the list she was told that they do not trust the bartender to make that drink. Excuse me??? Why have it on the list then. We decided to try this place while on vacation and celebrating our wedding anniversary. We made reservations and showed up at the appointed time. We were seated outside but there were only two wait staff for the entire patio. We sat for 15 minutes without anyone greeting us, filling our water or acknowledging our existence. When the waitress finally came over, she made it seem as though she was going to take our table since the waiter was too busy. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. 30 minutes later, we got our drinks and app- except my husband's dirty martini was some sort of sugar rimmed martini, which I questioned and she assured me it was correct. After he tasted it, we of course, confirmed that it was the wrong one. It took 15 more minutes to get the right one. At some point in these first 45 minutes. I had to ask for the bread I saw being delivered to everyone else. We finally got our meal an hour and 15 minutes after being seated. The food was good but nothing that deserved the hype that I read from other reviews- plus the horrible service put us in the wrong state of mind. We were never offered anything complimentary and were never offered an apology. I was totally disappointed and sad that the only night we got to get away from the kids on vacation was spent in such a frustrating manner. read more

They have cut the staff, the chef is gone and the menu has been reduced to one page . We have been going regularly since they reopened so were shocked last night when we arrived and were told we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. My wife and I hadn't been to Pier House since before the new construction. We loved it then so we were crossing our fingers upon our return tonight. We're happy to report that Pier House has picked up right where it left off! Everything was fantastic, from.... the tasty cocktails (especially the jalepeno margarita!), the ample apps (refreshing feta/watermelon salad and tangy Greek lemon chicken soup), our filet and grilled chicken entrees (seriously great cuts of meat PERFECTLY prepared), delicious desserts (tasty pecan tart and banana dulce de leche gelato) and really, truly attentive/caring service from our servers...this place is back and firing on all cylinders. First time I've been here since it newly opened . The atmosphere was awesome . The decor was soothing and beautiful. Light airy and bright . Service was impeccable from the minute we walked in . The hostess, server and even the bussers were impeccable . A few notes , the lamb chops were delicious , the house salad was fantastic , correct amount of balsamic dressing . All our entree's were perfect , the filet withe the blue cheese, tuna and swordfish were all perfect and delectable . I did love that they give a large great cup of tea and coffee . The Pier House is a very good dining experience for both the atmosphere and the food. First, the atmosphere: It is a beachfront restaurant (although in Cape May most of the beachfront restaurants are across the street from the beach and the view really is so-so). The interior is modern, sleek, yet casual. There is also outdoor dining available. One thing noticeable about the dining room is there is not a bad seat in the place. Even the three booths at the bar are comfortable for dining. They take reservations, and that separates them from the busy "here's your pager" restaurants in town. Hostess/waitstaff are friendly/professional. The food leans towards seafood with a mediterranean flair. The grilled octopus appetizer is better than the rock shrimp (rock shrimp are not very large and 4 for $14 is not a good price). The salmon entree was excellent, the strip steak was good. Entree prices are a little high; the wine bottles are priced better (and they have a very good Greek white wine by the glass, I forgot the name). The Pier House is also a place for good breakfast and lunch; breakfast being the better priced of the two. A word to the management if you're reading this, you need a sound system with some music in the dining room. The conversation sound escalates too quickly and you need some music blended in. read more

We arrived when they opened at 8am hoping to have breakfast before returning to our room to dress for a wedding. We quickly placed our order soon after 8 am. At 8:35 stone cold plates of cold eggs arrived. When we reported that, their eyes got big and they said, "ok." Not hospitality at its finest. The Canadian bacon barely covered half of my English muffin for Eggs Benedict and the Hollandaise was skimpy too. The ph potatoes were dark and greasy like warmed over French fries. At 8:50 more cold eggs returned. My husband got just eggs and a few minutes later the rest. ALL COLD AGAIN. Terrible and blew our morning schedule. read more

We ordered crab crostini and shrimp cocktail to start. The shrimp was good, but the crab was super COLD and oniony and zero lump crab, it was mashed, and wasn't on crostini...it was on huge chunks of untoasted Liscio's sesame bread from Acme. Fast forward to entrees and the scallops were good (but cold) but the risotto was under cooked food glue. Literally crunchy rice in a cold sticky mess. I've no problem paying market price for 4 small scallops...but at $55 please make it edible, and serve it warm, not cold... it was a cold lump of inedible mess. Steak au Poive was more of a creamy mustardy steak diane with extra pepper, but at least it was cooked as requested and not gross. I'm not sure the chef knows what is what. For the price, not really worth it, and we won't be back. read more

THIS IS MY 100TH YELP REVIEW. THERE ARE MANY LIKE IT BUT THIS ONE IS MINE. What a wonderful way to ring in my triple digits--with Cape May's The Pier House! The fiancée and I enjoyed everything from beginning to end about our dining experience at The Pier House last weekend. It's shocking to think that I almost turned us away as we were walking up the steps. From a lower perspective, through the glass, I could only really see people's heads and not much else. From that vantage point, it looked as if The Pier House was not all it was chocked up to be. In fact, it seemed no more glamorous than a roadside diner. Luckily, we proceeded inside where I was immediately relieved that my preconceived notions were unfounded. We sat in a comfortable booth by the window and the waiter was immediately present and offering water. We ordered pre-dinner drinks and the fiancée's chocolate martini was in a class all its own. My espresso martini was much darker than anticipated and therefore, too stout for my tastes but a little help from some cream made it a thousand times better. Thanks to Yelp, we ordered the Feta & Watermelon salad with honey, walnuts, mint, and arugula. It is sheer perfection as many before me have described. Mouth watering and deliciously stacked, my only gripe is that it almost fell over as I tried to push my fork through it for a cut. "Almost" being the opportune word as it did not in fact tumble. Put a little force behind your fork and you'll manage it easily. For a second appetizer, we went gaga over the calamari. Accompanied by three unique dipping sauces, this oversized plate looked great and tasted better. With my meal, I enjoyed an extremely generous pour from an excellent cab sauv. It complimented my filet mignon perfectly. The filet itself was fantastic despite the small, hardly worth mentioning traces of fat on the sides. The meat was topped with a long strip of bacon which did make the dish look great (see pic) though I would have preferred it to be crumbled up and spread all over. I suppose I could have done that myself anyway! The steak was cooked in a wild mushroom merlot reduction, and came with blue cheese and mashed potatoes on the side. Again, I probably would have preferred the blue cheese to be cooked directly into the potatoes but just by stirring things around, you can make the most of however you want it! The fiancée ordered crab cakes and enjoyed them to a point. In all fairness, I think I liked them more than she did. For dessert, we had some of the BEST coffee we've ever experienced in a restaurant alongside a fantastic peanut butter tort. Everything from the service to the food to even the bathrooms were spot on. This is a restaurant that does it right and we will be returning again and again. read more

Cape May has great restaurants, and after eating at this particular place, my expectations were certainly met! Located right by the water, we walked in and were taken to a booth for two right by the front windows. There was a bar with a wall filled with wines to the side and a very romantic candlelit atmosphere. My date and I each ordered a glass of wine and shared a Caesar salad. The complimentary bread served with hummus was delicious! My only complaint was the one type was made with chunks of olives which I don't like but other than that, the combo of hummus and multi grained bread was delicious. For our meals, my date had the crab cakes, served on a flat chip with a scoop of mashed potatoes. Those crab cakes were filled with so much flavor. I ordered the salmon "sharkas" which was a large piece of cooked salmon served over a bed of asparagus, mashed potatoes, and cooked spinach. The sauce that my meal was drizzled in was out of this world. What an incredible dinner. Service was quick, waters were replenished regularly and our waiter was marvelous. I found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to give it a try for our first anniversary meal. If I could possibly give this place any more stars I would- that's how excellent the service and food was. We ate at Emeril's in Orlando, and they couldn't even hold a candle to our experience at The Pier House. First off, we walked in and told them our names and they wished us a happy anniversary! (I made a comment about it when I reserved online- turns out they ACTUALLY read them!) The bar tender was fantastic, totally went the extra mile for us. Our wait staff was fantastic- Frank was his name. He was polite and timely and very professional. The food was nothing short of a work of art. We savored every single bite. The bread and hummus was a wonderful change from rolls and butter. They let me take the bread home with me in a "people bag" and even added a little hummus in a to go container! What kind of fine dining establishment does that? Amazing. As an aside- the portions were very hearty. My husband, who usually leaves a gourmet restraunt wanting more, was too full for dessert!! So disappointing!! we used to come to pier house all the time wenever we'd come to cape may. Looks like they changed the owner and cuisine. The old menu was delicious greek food. Although some reviews were bad we still decided to go. My husband and i got the ribeye steak for dinner.. it lacked flavor and just wasnt good. So dry!! For apps we got the shrimp and the brussel sprouts and they both taisted burned and also flavorless. The service was fine but the food itself wasnt. I was extremely disappointed and honestly wasnt worth how expensive it is. they should bring the old chef and menu back! read more

I really wanted to like Pier House. Let's just say that we had planned this as our "special" dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday during our last stay this summer. Unfortunately, our meal and experience at the Pier House was not so special. Nothing was terribly bad, but it just didn't live up to they hype of the Yelp reviews. The so-so experience started the moment we arrived. We immediately went to the hostess to check in and were ignored for the 10 minutes. In all honesty, I think they were having computer issues, but the should've told us that and apologized and given us some direction. Not to mention that the layout of the restaurant is not ideal. If you are waiting at the hostess stand you are in the way of servers coming out of the kitchen with food and people trying to get by you to go to the restroom. There's literally no where to stand that's not in the way. Okay moving on, we were seated at the bar instead of the dining room, even though it appeared that there were plenty of seats available in the dining room. I usually wouldn't mind, but the bar area was very very loud and not ideal for a romantic dinner. I started with the fried kaseri cheese and my husband had the macho tuna. We both liked our appetizers. My husband's was a little small, three bites of seared tuna but it was fresh and flavorful. My appetizer on the other hand was gigantic! It was soooo much cheese, it could easily be split with a full table. It was a little bit greasy but still very tasty. For my entree, I had the braised lamb shank which had good flavor but a lot of fatty pieces. The highlight on my plate was the oregano lemon potatoes! My husband had the whole branzino which was seriously lacking some seasoning in the breading. They do give you three different dipping sauces which is kind of a unique touch. We passed on dessert but the dessert tray looked tasty. I was pretty underwhelmed by the decor of the bar area and would've preferred to sit in the dining room. I made reservations for a Saturday night dinner. I used Open Table a couple days earlier, which was nice. First off and most importantly (for me right now), is that the Pier House is kid friendly. The Pier House succeeds at being that rare cross of combined fine dining and kid friendly There were lots of families there at 6pm Saturday. If you are looking for a more intimate dinner, I suggest going later. Either way, you won't be disappointed. The menu has combinations of fish and meat entrées. There were 2 soups. I order lemon chicken and rice and my wife got potato leek, both were very good. They have hot and cold apps, so I tried the andoullie appetizer not really knowing what to expect but was very satisifed. My wife got the calamari app which was HUGE. Definitely enough for 2 people. I saw a lot of people eating the grilled octopus. It looked real good and something I want to try next time. I ordered the veal porterhouse which was $42. It looks deceiving when it comes. It was delicious. It comes with a couple shrimp and rice pilaf. Maybe it was all the apps and soup, but I was stuffed. My wife got the sea bass for $32 and it was excellent. As I said earlier, the Pier House is kid friendly, my son got "popcorn chicken" which was chicken nuggets, but they were presented with an upside popcorn box and real popcorn all around it. Cute presentation, but more importantly, my son loved the chicken. We were way too stuffed for dessert and my son was getting antsy, so we passed, but the dessert tray looked pretty good. I really have no complaints with The Pier House. The service was great. I will definitely go back. I really wish it was BYOB like many of the fine dining restaurants in Cape May. This was our first time in Cape May and our first time at this restaurant. We were staying at the La Mer resort where the restaurant is located. The The staff was courteous, kind, respectful and practiced Covid restrictions. The food choices were quite diverse for both appetizers and entrées. Both children and adults had a variety of different choices available to them. He recommended the fish tacos and just about any fish dish for that matter on the menu. The salads were excellent especially with cheese and grilled watermelon. Next time we will try some desserts. The tables were spaced out for everyone's protection. Absolutely incredible! Family of six and a dancing two year old for a night at The Pier House. The service was splendid. Shamus was our server, and while im sure each member of that team is just as knowledgeable and delightful, it was Shamus that made our night truly special. His recommendations, from the Fire Grilled Shrimp, which was amazing, to the Filet Mignon made myself, and my families dining experience stand out and be remembered. Great food each time I have been there. Not too crowded as it is out of the main area where businesses are. Attached to a hotel but you get the feel of an independent restaurant.
