This place is now the preferred dining choice in Cape May for my wife and I. It is sophisticated and yet fun, and has a great lamb shank option on the menu. The portion sizes are large even thought this is not a cheap place. Yes I meant to write that that way. The waiting staff here is also extremely professional. We had dinner at the Pier House on Sunday night and were taken aback that entrees in the $40 to $50 range had Chef's vegetables listed as an ingredient which turned out to be green beans and carrots. The sea bass special however came with a delicious risotto and rapini and was excellent as was the flourless chocolate cake. We understand that the chef is new and hopefully he will develop the menu. We were regulars at The Pier House before its recent face-lift and were skeptical to visit after the restaurant changed chefs, but boy were we in for a surprise. The crab cakes smothered in a lobster sherry sauce were beyondddddd as were the orange crush cocktails. With Covid in mind, the restaurant is offering alfresco dining and the servers wear masks. So definitely check it out and seek out those legendary crab cakes. They are a must-try. read more

Just got back from Cape May, and I wanted to give a HUGE shout out to Pier House (we stayed at La Mer). Union Park (although amazing) was questionable last night because of impending rain, so we opted to go inside Pier House for a seating. They now take reservations, and the service, the food items, and the ambiance was out of this world. The menu has changed, (for the better!) - I had Clam sauce and linguine. Warm rolls and butter were presented upon sitting down, they made a side Caesar salad for me, and the drinks were outstanding. It was a lovely experience. It was at capacity 25% inside and almost full on the outside under a lovely tent. I highly recommend going soon, and ask for "Joe" our server we've known since he started there early last 2019. read more

Such a disappointment. We had 7:15 reservations. The hostess was far from apologetic when she told us it would be at least a 20min wait (we were exactly on time). We waited over 30min to sit. We basically didn't get our entree's until 8:45 with a 7:15 reservation. We asked if an entree (crab cakes) could be enjoyed as an appetizer. They brought out a full entree course as an appetizer and the waitress, (who was nice), was clueless what it meant when you asked for an appetizer size portion for a current offered entree. Table appetizer of fried calamari was excellent. 3 fish dishes (mahi mahi and salmon) were way too salty. Overall a complete disappointment. We've been here (Cape May) for 2 weeks, and they seem to be struggling more then any other restaurant we've been at for staff. There were many open tables, but no staff. We came to the Pier House for both breakfast and dinner: Breakfast was satisfying. The portions are hearty- sure to fill you up well into the evening. I had the Cape May Eggs (benedict with lump crab) which was very tasty. The mango tango French toast was piled high with pretty colors and good flavor, a plate you could almost share with someone if you weren't all too hungry. The coffee was even particularly tasty, but don't expect any free refills here. Dinner was truly outstanding. We started with a big plate of calamari with a pairing of 3 flavorful sauces and the lamb lollipops which were absolutely devine- small and pricy for just three chops but honestly worth it. I ordered the Ahi tuna (medium rare) which was VERY good with the mango salsa and the side of deliciously seasoned veggies. The rest of my family had the branzino, salmon, and the sea bass- all three plates were licked clean. The fish here is truly fresh and delicious, with nice portions and friendly, attentive service. Despite the pricy dollar signs, the Pier House really makes it worth your while. Definitely recommended for a big breakfast or a nice dinner out with special people. read more

I have a few complaints. For starters, the price for me was a little too expensive. Plus, we were waiting for our waitress to take our orders. She took a long time. Plan to go to the Pier House. Do not go on the spur of the moment. This restaurant next to La Mer Beachfront Inn is fine dining greek style. It came recommended by the hotel staff & after 4 hours in the car we just wanted to eat. It was delicious, but my husband & I had a bit of sticker shock. It's almost entirely seafood at market prices. Again, the food is delicous! It's beautifully presented. The staff knows their stuff from details on the food to details on the local area. My only complaint was the wine selection did not have enough by the glass. read more

Well... I guess this place will never be what it once was. The chef left before the tear-down & remodel to open Jersey Girl up in Wildwood... and that place is solid. Pier House still not so much. Average at best. Calamari was chewy and we had a nice long hair baked in to the batter (they were nice enough to take it off our bill and comp us a shrimp cocktail). Crab cakes were pretty good, fish and chips were decent. Drinks were strong. Tried this out for an anniversary dinner- we had a reservation but had to wait for tables to clear which is understandable during COVID. However, once entering the dining room there was still tables placed closely next to each other without distancing. Our waiter came over, pulled his mask down to yell the specials at us which should have been our second red flag. We then received our appetizers which were ok, calamari and roasted brussles. Both were super salty but it was understandable since they were fried. The real downfall was our main course. The steak was delivered and we were left to use a butter knife to cut it. No water refills. Scallops that were almost inedible with how salty they were and the same for the steak. We never even were offered a refil on cocktails. As a former server who was looking to finally dine in and help the industry- I would not recommend. This was a huge let down of a dinner out. I didn't even take photos of my food.. that's when you know. Forgot to add- when I looked into the kitchen on the way out not one chef was wearing a mask.. smh. read more

We were trying to find restaurants that were taking reservations and Pier house happened to be one of them. We went for dinner around sunset and requested to be seated outside. The staff kindly brought over one of the heaters near our table and all the tables were appropriately social distanced! The menu items were a little pricy but everything was tasty! The French onion soup and the warm apple cider cocktail warmed us up as we watched the sunset and for dinner we had the whole fish, seafood cippino, and the halibut. The whole fish was the tastiest with the perfect combination of a crispy outside and soft and tender inside! The other dishes were good as well and would warn anyone getting the seafood cippino that your hands might get dirty with cracking the crab legs but it'll be worth it! read more

What a nice location with outdoor seating. We enjoyed a cool ocean breeze within a well landscaped surrounding. We started off with appetizers. One of which included the freshly, deep-fried calamari. I love choices and you get 3 dipping options with this dish. I always prefer the marinara sauce, but the basil aioli (I believe that was a second option) was a nice option too. My crab cakes dinner was phenomenal! Beautifully presented and the multitude of flavors was explosive! A trio of sauces mixed with with panko crusted, fresh and creamy lump crab...topped with grilled jumbo shrimp and a teasing of mashed potatoes. I basically linked my plate clean. The granola was baked into the pancakes themselves, and the strawberries on the side were gorgeous and fresh. My boyfriend got an omelette (I forget the name) with shrimp and asparagus, and it was excellent. Perfectly cooked eggs, really great flavor, super fresh ingredients. YUM. I came again a day later with my mom and sister for lunch. We shared a DELICIOUS watermelon/feta salad with walnuts, mint and honey. Holy cow, flavorful. I got a salad (again I forget the name) with shrimp and avocado that was outstanding. My sister got the La Mer salad with scallops and other yummy stuff, and my mom got the beet salad. All around gorgeous plates, ultra fresh, super yum. For a beachfront restaurant with a stellar menu, the prices are incredibly reasonable. Service is passable but not the highlight. There are so many restaurant options in Cape May, and I've had many great meals. This ranks as one of the best. read more

The Pier House Our second visit to this "reinvented" restaurant hoping for better things. Sad to report that the quality and service has actually declined since our last visit. As far as I can see this establishment has absolutely non of the culinary tenets to the original Pier House . . . . Other than trying to cash in on the first rate reputation of the original. As to the food; Bread rolls weren't hot and a little stale. Our apps came out wrong. The calamari (advertised as crispy) were small and soggy, indelicately slapped on the plate. When our blacked shrimp eventually arrived they were totally over cooked. Steak entree overcooked, Crab cakes had a pungent odor - not fresh, more like frozen. Chicken Mushrooms tasted like a can of Campbell's Chicken and Mushroom soup, and very salty. I took an Excedrin half way through the meal. As for the rest of the entrees they were certainly not what you would expect for approaching $40 a plate. The dessert menu had 5 choices and the two we wanted they were out of. So we left without having coffee and dessert. I have no problem with paying for quality fare but trust me this is nowhere near the vicinity of the zip code of "quality fare". Make sure not to read reviews more than two years old as those were from previous owner/chef when The Pier House was really quite something. Thankfully we found out where the old chef is working and we will be going there soon! We will not be returning. read more

My bf and I decided to try The Pier House last night for dinner. The food was delicious. I ordered the Feta and Watermelon salad and the whole Red Snapper and he ordered the simple salad and the Branzino. My salad was great. It had the perfect balance of sweet and salty with a little bit of crunch from the walnuts. I didn't eat all of it because I wanted to save room for my entree. My Red Snapper was pretty good but it was accompanied by 3 dipping sauce which I felt were totally unnecessary. One was shockingly bad. I put them off to the side. My bf loved his Branzino. He urged me to give The Pier House 4 stars. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and our waitress was pleasant and efficient. We can't wait to come back. read more

For appetizers we had the watermelon and feta cheese salad ($8), oysters on the half shell (6 for $13) and spicy seared scallops (3 for ($13.50). All tasted well. Next up, we had shrimp zaganaka and crab cakes for entrees. My wife said the shrimp dish was pretty good. The shrimp came on a bed of pilaf rice that seemed to cover the plate. Crab cakes (2) came with mashed potatoes on top. I was expecting a flavor explosion but was underwhelmed. I found them to rather bland overall. Finally, dessert of key lime pie and something a la mode. Good choices. Overall, great meal while looking out at the ocean. Good wine list and beer selection as well. Enjoy your meal! read more

As a local of Cape May I have been looking forward to this restaurant opening for quite awhile now. I was looking forward to the Greek menu and was excited to eat here, however I was quickly disappointed. First, it took 25 minutes to just get water. The waitress was hustling, but she was seated multiple tables at once. I ordered the chicken and lemon soup which was extremely salty. I couldn't finish it because my mouth started to become sore due to the saltiness and lack of water. My mother ordered a steak which was dry and salty. The potatoes that came with her meal were cold. Our waitress told the manager (who we never saw surveying the restaurant) who came over to our table. The manager only told us that the steak did not have any salt. She did not seem to care about the salty soup or the cold potatoes. She never asked us what she could do to make it better. I have worked in the restaurant industry for many years. I have been in high end places to causal dining as well. This was a very disappointing experience. The chef did take care of our meal, however that was never our goal. I do appreciate it. We informed our waitress that it did not reflect poorly on her and tipped her well above the original cost of the meal. I would not recommend this place. I am on my way to go get a Happy Meal from McDonalds. I would recommend YB or George's for good Greek food. read more

After a 2 year closure the re opening of this upscale restaurant turned out to be a pure delight. The entire staff from the hostess to the bartender Michele to our waitress Becca were pleasant and helpful. We sat outside in a peaceful setting. My Black Raspberry Bourbon smash was excellent as was my crab and avocado mango appetizer. Very refreshing. My lamb shank for my main meal was also excellent. A special nod to the crispy crusted crab cakes with pure crab (no fillers). One of the best I've had. Definitely will be back. read more

So, the Pier House has reopened!! If you've eaten at Mythos on Bank Street you know the menu at the new Pier House. Greek style entrees, excellent appetizers and the watermelon and feta salad that the old PH was famous for. It has an updated look, both inside and out. A larger patio than before and inside, the bar and dining room are also larger and more up to date. We had the Shrimp Saganaki and swordfish souvlaki. Both were excellent. The service was fast but not intrusive. If you have been waiting for the PH to reopen- go! If you've never been there - absolutely go!! read more

We stayed at the hotel where it lives and initially had a superb lunch. Thought we would venture out around Cape May as we do whenever we travel. MISTAKE! This USED to be one of our favorite restaurants at the shore. Apparently there is a new chef and all the great things that used to be on the menu are not on it anymore. Want that pretty watermelon and feta salad pictured over and over in the reviews? They don't have it anymore! How about the beautiful dip sampler? Gone. We were sad that all our favorites were taken away. They used to have the best fish skewers over rice with gorgeous veggies. That's all gone now too. The saddest was the kids menu used to have "popcorn shrimp". It was a bowl of real popcorn with fried shrimp on it and was such a fun novelty for kids. That's all gone now. My son was so sad. So DON'T look at the pictures on reviews from older than a year ago and think you are getting anything close to that at this restaurant. (And the majority of the positive reviews are from over 11 months ago). This used to be a restaurant with a Mediterranean flair. Now it's an overpriced tourist trap restaurant with subpar food and inflated prices. My mom ordered halibut which was dry and had no taste. I ordered the mahi mahi. Same thing, no flavor at all. It came with a side of limp bok choy with no flavor as well. My husband ordered a pasta with vegetables, which came out looking like a soup more than a pasta dish. It was actually gross to look at swimming in a watery "sauce". My daughter ordered a filet mignon and requested it cooked to medium and it was super well done. She could hardly chew it. We were so hungry that we just ate the food and probably should have sent most of it back. The biggest issue is that the prices are RIDICULOUS for what you get in quality. I understand that food will be expensive at the beach, but when the majority of the food is horrible, it makes it even worse to fork over hundreds of dollars. Only positives I can say. Our server was very sweet. The Brussel sprouts were good. It's sad to say, but I don't see this restaurant surviving with this chef. We were all very sad to see this gem of a restaurant go so downhill. We visited last summer and sat outside and they still had the old menu, so COVID is not the excuse for this menu change. Has always been a must visit for us while in Cape May. 2nd visit since the reopen and must say we were very disappointed. Lamb chops were much smaller than I remember, asked for medium Rare but they were too small to show any Pink. Calamari came out cold they did place a new order, was ok at best. We came to cape may on the heels of our 10th wedding anniversary. I searched on Yelp for the best restaurants in Beautiful Cape May and the Pier House made the list. Upon entering the decor was nice and the staff was busy as it was the height of the dinner rush. We were seated in a booth by the wall in the main dining area. The table was clean and the atmosphere was a bit loud which garnered removing half of a star of a 5 star review. Our server was Lindsey, she was friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu items. She brought over a basket of bread that we really didn't care for so I took a quarter of a star. My wife went with the "dirty" NY Strip and I had the PH Balance which consisted of a lightly fried lobster tail and a petit filet mignon. On my part of the dish I took off another quarter of a star. The lobster tail shell was big but there wasn't enough meat, the filet was cooked beautifully and the mashed potatoes were great and the glaze on the steak was great. My wife loved her "dirty" NY strip as it was cooked to her liking. The drinks were great too. Overall, we highly recommend this place to everyone visiting Cape May. read more
