Seas the day at this busy local eatery! I love hanging with my piers! We waited quite awhile for a table in the enclosed patio and it was well worth the wait. The view of the ocean and the pier was so pleasant and relaxing. We really enjoyed the beachy, casual atmosphere at this restaurant. We came for breakfast and were not disappointed! The food was tasty and served quickly! I ordered the blueberry pancakes (you can get pancakes for your "bread" but they are smaller that the regular ones), scrambled eggs and grits with bacon! My friend opted for the short stack with bacon and home fries, she said the coffee was amazing! I'm a tea drinker but they only have Lipton, so I brought my own. The server was so nice and brought me a carafe of hot water and said she'd ask the owner about more tea selections! I was overwhelmed with "em-ocean" at her kindness. Mainly just burgers and fries. Nothing special. The view is nice and sitting outside on the deck was great to enjoy the ocean while eating appetizers. The waitress was extremely busy, never returned back to the table and we had to ask someone else for the check although it could be because she was trying to wait on what appeared to be the whole place with one other wait staff. Since I only had cheese sticks and hushpuppies I really can't rate the rest of the menu but the cheese sticks were just your run of the mill frozen quick fried sticks. If you like to eat where the locals eat then you've found the right spot . We love to eat breakfast here . The food is good and the view is Gorgeous . I think there prices are very reasonable for what you get . Just know that during peak season you will have to wait . To pass the time there is a pier to wander out on ( please pay at the counter ) The staff is friendly and waste no time . OBX beach rocks..." we thought we were going to the fishing pier but there was a restaurant on it and we liked its ambiance as it has an oceanfront bar. We decided to have some drinks. We were sitting outside though it is open from all 2 sides. Colorful chairs- down the platform waves bumping to wood logs. View of the fishing pier and sunset time... quite an amazing view. Such a relax moment. We ordered common drinks like blue moon and mojito. There was one cocktail, hurricane, mix with dark rum and vodka. Great drink. There was a live band from 7. Live music-lovely place and amazing view. A good time it is...!! And how can I forget Emily? Emily served us. she is a sweet girl with all smile on her face. Hey the location is the one thing this place has going for it. It's right over the water. That being said, i would spend my money elsewhere. The food is mediocre on a good day, and the people almost act as if they would rather slide down a mile long razor blade into a pool of sharks than be there. This is one of the occasions in which I really agree with most of the other Yelpers in that they simply aren't good. My lady ordered a seafood omelette with home fries. The fries were undercooked and cold, the omelets was...Meh! Her toast was also cold too. I ordered the JC Special which was a biscuit split in half and both halves topped with sausage and scrambled eggs and cheese. All of that was covered with gravy. It was ok, but still lukewarm. Just to be clear: this review is for CAPTAIN ANDYS. Hard to figure out what to put this under Bc there is no specific listing for Captain Andy's Tiki Bar. Popped in here to check stuff out this afternoon and have a drink and a snack. Got a spot right up at the rail overlooking the pier and the beach. Service was awesome and staff were all great and nice, which always means a lot when you've got a couple little ones in tow. Ordered a bunch of apps to try and some stuff for the kids, food was great, Mrs loved the drinks, and the beers were cold. Def worth stopping through and hanging out! Pro Tip: when u have awesome folks at a place like this that take the time to look out for our little ones, make sure their drinks a full, stuff to color with, and are happy - me and momma are gonna eat, drink, and spend more. The best part of the restaurant is the pier. Going out to the end of the pier was pretty cool with the larger waves coming in. We ordered appetizers they came with our dinner. All I can say is "stay away." The food is below average. And sadly, the service is worse. I ordered the best, most expensive steak on their menu tonight. It came out so chewy and bad, I spit pieces over the railing into the sand. When I complained and pointed out the meat was inedible, the waitress shrugged and walked away. Unbelievable. Even more unbelievable, she brought the check and told me she was still charging for the horrible steak, even though it sat uneaten on my plate. She never offered me anything else and flatly told me she was still charging me "because I though you just didn't like it." Huh? I had to tell her she could take it off the check or call the police on me. The manager was even worse. Stay away from this place like the plague. The service is horrible and they serve inedible meat. It's a management problem. The rude manager made it very clear he didn't care at all about why he thought were tourists. Choose a restaurant that deserves your money and might actually treat you professionally. I have never, ever in my life not tipped. Tonight was a first. This waitress didn't deserve a dime. Have you ever been able to dine with an Ocean view? Of course many people will say they have, but what about with the sand and the waves crashing down beneath you?!? The Nags Head Fishing Pier Restaurant is a personal fave of mine for breakfast whenever I go home to visit. Breakfast starts at 7am and runs until 11:30am (except noon on weekends) so the staff is ready and waiting for you long before the sun comes up. The waitstaff there are cheerful locals. One waitress used to babysit me when I was a kid and paint for my Dad's company. Another is the Mom of a girl I went to school with on the island. If you're an earlybird you can watch the sunrise while you eat a home-cooked delicious breakfast. If you're like me, you wander in at about 11am to have a late brunch and then go walk on the beach. If you have to wait you can pay $1.50 to go for a nice walk down the pier, but usually the wait isn't too bad and if so it's well worth it. If there's space available, ask to sit on the porch so you can hear and smell the wind and waves crashing just outside and through the screened windows. I usually have a chocolate milk, ice water, french toast and a side of sausage. It's reasonable. I think my french toast and sausage is about $7. If you go there for dinner, which I can't remember ever doing, if you bring fish that you caught, they'll cook it for you. Catch and clean your fish and they'll cook it - served with french fries, slaw and hushpuppies (3 pieces or 10 oz). Pretty neat, huh? read more

The best thing about this restaurant is the location. My husband and I had brunch here recently. It was moderately busy, but we got a table right away. Took an hour to get our food which was cold and not very good I asked for scrambled eggs with cheese and got cold eggs with 3 pieces of sliced American cheese melted on top- disgusting. For the last night before leaving the Outer Banks, we went to the Pier House. I guess we thought the water view from the pier would be good. The dining room is a lot smaller than we expected and the view is more of the pier than the water. To top it off, the windows were coated with salt and the view was non-existent. We were not there for a big meal. Aunt Annie and I ordered their Hatteras style chowder with mixed seafood. This was pretty disappointing. It was very heavily dosed with lemon and was extremely sour and also overly salty, the two flavors enhancing each other. The other strong flavor was onion. The seafood was of very poor quality, with those tiny canned shrimp and not very many of those. Ms T and Aunt Annie split the crab cake sandwich which was mediocre at best with very fine low quality crab. I had a burger for some reason (at a seafood restaurant), but that is what I wanted. It was very standard, but was probably the best thing we had that evening. There are so many places to try, I doubt if I would return to this one unless it was for their apparently popular breakfast. read more

This is one of my dad's favorite places since he loves the seafood omelette. I personally think it's an average restaurant. They have also changed/ condensed their menu in recent years and it states "no substitutions or deletions" which is a little off-putting. Service was a bit slow despite not having many customers. The restaurant is very small but has a nice view of the beach & pier. The coffee has that burnt diner taste that even creamer cant salvage. My veggie omelette was okay. The side of home fries was skimpy and my "toast" was literally 2 pieces of white bread with a slight brown color. There were also a lot a flies buzzing around which was annoying but not really the restaurant's fault. I've had better breakfast, but it's not the worst. read more

6/20/20 I have been here two, maybe three time, but I don't remember the restaurant area.  Yes, there is outdoor dining, but it was not in use from what I saw today. From what I saw today, the main entrances is set up for fishing, drinking beer and not much else. Okay you can play pinball or try to win a prize at one of those grab machines.  Yeah right. The man I saw working there offered no hello or anything. I have seen the far off stare before so I paid it no mine. It the look that says "You want something boy?"   Nevertheless,  it was kept civil either one of us saying anything to each other. Oh, and if you want to walk or fish in the boardwalk, you have to pay to play. Not sure when this went onto effect,  but it does help pay and maintain the boardwalk. The last time I was here, I saw a lot of bikers here and it made one of my friends very nervous being in establishment.   The men's bathroom didn't smell good, but I have seen worse.  One toilet had a private stall where you could do you business.  The other toilet was out in the open next to the urinal.  Glad I didn't have to use that one. I would have if I had to. One of those moments when your body says "Its now or else." Walking under the boardwalk  is nice, but I could see myself camped out there like a few women I saw. One was squatting away from her friend on the phone cry or very upset. From what I noticed she may have been getting dumped. I did not wish to hear anymore than I heard while walking under the bridge.  Still the feeling of wanting to help her did pop into my head. I don't  see myself going back to this restaurant/pier again. Only if nature calls will I go back there...I think... Well that about says it all. read more

We've been here a few times but usually drinks only. Came today after the beach wanted to get a couple of drinks for our last day in OBX. The hostess was great and said a server would be over. After a long wait I went to the bar. My wife said the sever was nasty when she learned I got our drinks. Tried to get another drink but waited and waited. Finally asked another server and it became a whole ordeal because we went to the bar. Finally got a drink. To top it off watched our server ignore another couple while she spoke to people she knew even after the bus boy let her know they wanted another drink. Went to the pier for a nice lunch and view. Things started off bad and went down hill from there. Host surely didn't want to be there as her attitude was diffintly not geared towards the customer. Once seated we asked for an umbrella and was promptly denied one even though there were several stored by the hosts available. The manager/bartender, I'll call her Karen, came to our table and demanded we quit smoking in the smoking section. Needless to say we paid for our drinks and left. Great lunch with good service. I had the mini crab balls and another person in the group had the crab cake sandwich. Both of us really enjoyed the flavor and consistency. Another friend had a steak wrap that she loved. We sat outside and soaked up the sun along with a few cocktails (lots of options). You could stay there for hours, it's so beautiful! This place was packed for breakfast! We showed up around 9 a.m. on Saturday and had a 25 minute wait. After sitting down, no one came for our drinks order for at least 10 minutes. None of that mattered, because the food was very good. We had pancakes, sausage, bacon, biscuits with chipped creamed beef, biscuits with sausage gravy, an over-easy egg, and decaf coffee. Everything was delicious! The pancakes reminded me of the pancakes at Stack'em High, thin and light. I prefer thick ones, but these were good too. Maybe it's an OBX thing. I mixed the egg in with my chipped cream beef and it was a perfect foil to the salty beef. The sausage gravy was good although it probably could have used a little more black pepper. The bacon and sausage were also good. Even the Maxwell House decaf was decent. The view makes this place the best, especially when it's raining. The waves were beautiful. I should have got the hint from these reviews. Wouldn't have reviewed it all if I wasn't still charged for my corn beef hash with two long pieces of black hair in it. I get that happens, but to still charge after it's obviously hardened and stuck in there is a bit much when you can clearly see I'm not BSing. The first corn beef hash was a little better (crunchier), but the second batch you could tell the chef must have been mad. Mainly came here for the beautiful ocean view and because they are for breakfast/lunch, but the bacon was rubbery, corn beef hash was almost liquidy, and the French toast was soggy before adding the butter and syrup. Girlfriend stated her orange juice was the best part. She said her corn beef hash was tasteless, the omelet sized eggs were rubbery and oversized on a small biscuit and the cheese tasted processed. read more

Is it pier house restaurant? Is it andys? Either way I didn't like it this last time. On one side you have the old original restaurant and on the other side is a fake jimmy buffet tiki bar place. Both restaurants are serving the same menu. No one in our party finished their meal, it just wasn't good. Side note in the middle of our bad but peaceful meal a want to be country star hooks up sound equipment and starts blasting songs on auto tune while drunk people yelled. I can see how some people would like this but just not what I was expecting from the formally pier house restaurant where "grandma" cooked what you caught on the pier and grabbed about the weather. read more

I have been really enjoying myself on my beach vacation and had this slightly too long horrible dining experience. I came with friends for happy hour and as soon as we walked in, one employee makes a remark regarding one of the server's lack of ability to speak English clearly. Next, we get seated, order water to start and only half our table gets water for 20m. I order my alcoholic beverage twice after waiting for way too long to have my order taken. The alcoholic drink lacked an important ingredient: alcohol. My table ordered the shrimp (the other food on the HH menu. I cannot comment on that - I did not eat any). We ordered the happy hour dishes: tacos - extremely gross - the cheese was microwaved too much and tasted like plastic. My friend had a dead bug fall from the ceiling into hair and bounce onto the table immediately followed by the receipt of a dirty, sticky plate the server gave her. When asking to have it replaced, she gave a face that looked like "really, you want another plate?". Service overall was the worst service I have experienced in OBX. I would not recommend this place to anybody. I hope they learn to improve their attitude and service. If I could rate this 0.5 stars, I would only for the wings being decent and a good view. read more

On our way back home from Hatteras, we decided to stop in Nags Head for lunch. Had our two dogs with us, so I waited on the nearby picnic tables while my husband went inside to place a take-out order. Much of the visit is clouded by the fact that a friendly dude decided to sit with me while I waited, and waxed on about some pretty unlikely circumstances in his life (having bounced Sonny of Sonny & Cher; walking into a random bar in Miami and becoming the house piano player; swimming 20+ miles between islands in Hawaii; and so on). I thought once Phil came out with our food, surely, the guy would let us eat in peace. But he stayed... and it wasn't until he pinched my arm (hard!) to prove some weird point about human reaction that I finally started giving the cold shoulder. Anyway, I rushed through my meal so we could make an escape, but still remember having only an average experience food-wise. I'd been excited to stumble upon a place that was still serving brunch; I ordered a biscuit sandwich and shared some pancakes with Phil. The biscuit was dry, and the meat no better than a fast-food place. The pancakes were alright, but neither of us finished them off. If I ever find myself in the area gain, I would still be curious enough to come back dog-less and fully experience the restaurant -- ocean-view and all. read more

This is a regular spot where we stop for breakfast in the OBX. I enjoyed the pancakes that I got here. They were well made and there was plenty to eat. They have a great location on the ocean but they need to take more advantage of it. Why are all the windows on the patio closed? We need to get some fresh air blowing through here, especially in the summer. They had no trouble seating our large group, but there is generally a bit of a wait time for a table. You can walk out on the pier but there's a toll to do so. All in all it's a decent place to stop for breakfast while you're in the area. I'd recommend checking it out. read more
