3.5: A local quaint French bakery that has some not cheap pastries, croissant type items, macarons, cakes and drinks. If they get even a little busy though with drink orders, you'll notice their slowness. For the food, we enjoyed a small mousse hazelnut cake ($7, delicate but small) and brownie ($5). There are a few small tables and chairs and it seems like a place where it would be ok to hang out for a nice long while. There's not a whole lot on the menu, and don't have a strong impulse to return any time soon! Additional fee for credit cards which I didn't see displayed. There are a few other locations including one in upper saddle river, and its high prices were a turnoff.

If you're in Ridgewood, NJ, visit Pierre and Michel Authentic French Bakery. I tried the Raspberry Mousse, which was incredibly soft and decadent, perfectly complemented by an Iced Caramel Latte. This bakery captures the essence of French baking, offering a variety of viennoiseries, pâtisseries, cakes, and macarons made with the finest ingredients. Each treat reflects their commitment to artisanal craftsmanship. Whether you're looking for a morning pastry or a cake for a special occasion, Pierre and Michel delivers an elegant French experience.

pierre michel bakery is one of my favorites bakeries around! Every time I'm in town, I make sure to stop by for a cappuccino and one of their delicious dessert cakes. On my last visit, I ordered a cappuccino, pistachio macarons, the metisse cake, and the hazelnut cake. The desserts are made to perfection and always fresh. Definitely a must-visit spot for anyone who loves great pastries and coffee.

One of the best pastry shop in NJ! Whenever we visit NJ we always go to any of their locations! Location: It is located along Ridgewood Avenue. There is few seatings inside and great display of the pastries. There are street parkings but might be busy on the weekends. Service: the staff were nice, they wait for you to order and does not rush you. Food: I bought several pastries here and some are good and some are okay. PEACH TART: this is my favorite cause it is not that sweet and there is cream inside. MANGO TART: i believe this might be limited cause I never saw this before but I love it. The crust is so good and the meringue on top is fluffy. WALNUT BROWNIE DARK CHOCOLATE MOUSE: another favorite, so chocolatey, I finished it in one seating. OPERA: this is my least favorite, I think the one I got was made long time cause the mouse has and different taste and the color is odd. Price rating: 7/10. To be honest the price is not bad for the desserts. I will visit it again everytime I go to NJ! Definitely try their tarts!

Nice, casual cafe with inside sitting in downtown Ridgewood, good vibes, open long hours. Great to grab a delicious croissant for breakfast or some pastry and coffee. Excellent service.

What a disappointing visit. The desserts didn't taste fresh. The Métisse, crème brûlée, and mango tart were decent, but the Paris Brest and hazelnut cake definitely tasted stale. The service and coffee were good.

I was so delighted to go back to this cafe - we enjoyed our cappuccino and double espresso! And I always love the Parisian scene in the front. I have yet to try their pastries. We did have to pay to park in a garage. I am happy to see that this business is doing well and is on the main strip of the downtown area. They do have wi fi as well if you need it.

This review is based on quality and taste of offerings. On a Sunday afternoon (2pm) there was a long line for ordering. They were out of baguettes at this time (for those who may be interested in planning ahead). They had 2 people working the establishment. I think they may need 1-2 more people for optimal efficiency - but again review based on taste. I ordered the Paris Brest which was a hazelnut buttercream croissant. There was a lot of buttercream, so you may want to order a plain croissant and share the buttercream! I also ordered the Pear Tart (because there were only 2 left and I assume that means it's good!).... Well, it was!! Creamy, rich, and delicious! Definitely order this but ask for water as it's sweet!

TLDR: (Overall 4.5 but rounded up on yelp to 5) Pierre and Michel at Ridgewood is a small but quaint location providing a unique experience that you would not receive at other bakeries. The pastries are delicious with a variety that'll keep you coming back for more! Sweet or savory, Pierre and Michel provides a more than satisfactory indulgence. A location to visit at least once in my book if you are in the area. :) In-Depth: To Preface, I have diabetes so sadly I only had the chance to sample everything, but that also means I've trained myself on sugar a bit. The pastries (4.5/5): The pastries in appearance is WOW. I had a friend who bakes and even he was impressed and allured by the gorgeous presentation of the desserts. Easy 5/5 for the appearance. (I will get into decor later)The pricing is not too bad especially for the quality and effort that goes into the appearance of the pastries. It goes down a little bit because the taste is great but not mind-blowing. The tiramisu was above average, a little much choco powder for my liking, but it was good. They have some unique desserts that I have to give credit for like La Passion (Passionfruit and Chocolate). It ends up being sour with a hint of sweetness followed by the bitter chocolate. Not for everyone but it can have its fans. Get it if you want to try something you never had before. The Croissants are buttery, flakey and good. The other two desserts, I forgot the name, the caramel was burnt but unless you are REALLY particular about the details it was still delicious. The other one is really pretty but tasted great! I can imagine most of the other ones are above average if not something you never have seen or had before :) The Service (4/5) : The workers are polite and the location can get busy at time. Nonetheless they are hospitable and provide the service you need. If you order in then they'll bring you the order plated with utensils. It is something you will not see around this area often due to the nature of cafe/bakeries. No complaints, nor any bad encounters. The Decor/Space (4/5): The decor was very quaint and unlike other bakeries. I wouldn't say it's the best, but it's certainly an experience walking in the first time. You really get this "wow" when you walk in and smell the pastries. The functionality is a bit rough, the seats are comfortable but the arrangement of the tables is a bit tight. The tables and utensils are good quality though. The plates themselves are decent. It is also quite clean despite the amount of business they go through so that is big points. Did not see the bathroom at this location but I can imagine it's on the cleaner side haha. Drinks (3.5/5): So you may be wondering why I gave a 5 despite the low rating to drinks. The place is a bakery not really a coffee shop so they aren't specialized in coffee brewing. A cappuccino is pretty standard, nothing amazing it's a decent one you can find anywhere. It'll definitely suffice if you need a cup of coffee along with some French pastry goodies and that's enough. Especially since there is some tough competition with the coffee scene in the neighborhood. (Ridgewood Coffee Co.) The French Hot chocolate though will cause some issues. It is basically a hot chocolate, a French Hot chocolate is meant to be incredibly thick nearing a syrup consistency. The one they have at the bakery looks pretty, but is just a regular hot chocolate. If it's branded as such then it would be fine but the addition of the French changes the expectation of those who know what it is. That is why the score goes a little down. There are points for the cleanliness of the location and the presentation, it's nice. Thank you for reading and enjoy the good eats :)

They sell baguettes. Don't they look delicious?

Am I the only one who is a sucker for beautiful and breathtaking French pastries? All the pretty pastries and macarons reminded me of Paris. Didn't know this place existed until a friend brought me here. And, everything we had was delicious and memorable. If you love dessert, this place is a must. ***In a rush? Skip to the end for my tips.*** There were so many desserts to choose from and with only three of us, we had to choose wisely. We got the following: - Fresh squeezed orange juice - Freshly made when you order - Metisse - Dark chocolate mousse / Crème brulé filling / Hazelnut crunch / Chocolate sponge cake - Every bite was rich and delectable and the hazelnut crunch on the bottom made the last few bites extra delicious. - Vanilla éclair - Not soggy and loved the extra whipped cream on top - Fresh Berry Tart - Not overly sweet and it was unique because the berries and the berry pastry cream was on top of a biscuit-like crust, not a typical pie crust. - Macarons - pistachio and coconut - Reminded me of the macarons in Paris. Every single thing was delicious. I wanted to try all the other macaron flavors and pastries, but sadly, not enough stomach space for more, which is fine because now I have a reason to keep coming back here to try all their other pastries and their sandwiches sound really good, too. Tips: - If you are staying and eating, you order, pay, sit down, and then they bring you your order. - As other reviewers state, finding a spot to sit is a bit tough. So, if you see a spot, claim it right away. - It seems like a lot of the popular pastries get sold out pretty quickly because there were a few empty spots in the pastry section. So, try to not go too late. - Getting pastries from here would be a great gift for any occasion (birthday, housewarming, potluck, "I'm sorry"). Everything is so beautiful and delicious, so you'll be the best gift giver. - Ridgewood parking is always a bit tough, but on top of meter parking, they do have small municipal parking lots. And, it's free parking on Sundays. Bathroom Tip - They do have a bathroom in the back of the shop. If you go past the glass displays, and go through the one and only doorway leading to the back, the bathroom is to your immediate left. It's only one person at a time.

They also have a chocolate shop next door. When I walked inside of the bakery, I felt transported to a pastry shop in France. I visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was super busy. Service was quick and efficient. I ordered a latte and a scone. The scone was very delicious and fresh. My boyfriend ordered a frozen hot chocolate and a chocolate éclair. I tried a bit of the éclair and we both agreed that it was the star of the show. I normally am not a big éclair person but this one was so chocolatey and rich. It was filled with this creamy, fresh chocolate filling. I strongly dislike the store bought cream filling that they are usually piped with. We sat at one of the little tables on the sidewalk outside since the weather was nice. I will be back if I am in the area and in the mood for a sweet treat!

Cross contamination is no issue for me, as I informed them, but I need to know if there are nuts actually inside as an ingredient. One person said only one item on their dessert menu contained nuts, and when I mentioned that many contained hazelnut they seemed surprised to learn that hazelnut is in fact a tree nut. Lo and behold, the chocolate dacquoise inside the Spring dessert contained nuts and I got an anaphylactic reaction as a result and needed to take my EpiPen. The bite I had was very yummy but almost took me out so I'll still keep two stars for the baking itself. However, staff NEEDS to know what contains very common and deadly allergens.
