    The place!

It's in a neighborhood and looks something like a clapboard pink tool shed. Wonder what it originally was. But I found it in Yelp Radar on my Saturday commute to Hackensack from Summit on another 8 day work week. I walked up and saw "cash only" on the door and harrumphed but checked the site and that's what it says. Sweet tax move. Once I got inside, it was like being in what might have been the 1950's. A slew of kids behind the counter including a teen rocking a flattop and cheerful cheerleader friendly girls not bitterly serving customers. Nice kids (which i am not - well not a kid). The prices were jaw dropping low and the flavors were extraterrestrially different - check their on line menu. Sure it ran me $16 for a large milk shake and a medium sundae but you pay more elsewhere and without the fresh-faced friendly service and without the great odd flavors - German Bavarian Chocolate Cake flavor! Of course if I frequented this place I'd become Jabba the Hut but I'll be back once I walk off my last visit!

Made a quick stop at this parlor to get some ice cream. Plenty of parking spots in front of the store. A lot of people were hanging out outside the store while having their ice cream. Inside the store, it was mainly the counter to order ice creams. They had 24 different flavors in the menu, with options for cups, waffles and cones. There were plenty of toppings available as well. We got the cotton candy flavor with chocolate sprinkles on top. There were multiple associates behind the counter. So we got order right away. The price was decent for the small cup, only $6. It was a lot of ice cream in the cup. We liked the taste of the ice cream. Sprinkles were good too. I just wish the store was little bit more interesting inside with better decor and some sitting space.

Cute local ice cream shop at Ridgewood NJ. The pained the building pink which is very appealing to kids. Parking lot in the front, convenient for quick stop by. The staff members are friendly and helpful. Fast service. We got a cotton candy ice cream with chocolate sprinkles ($6). It's a big scoop. Flavor is good. Too sweet for me. No tables or seats inside. But I see many people just chatting and hanging out in the front and enjoying the ice cream.

Don't get too excited- thats just vintage sign

Tried ice cream here for first time, the service is great. We got only one scoop each but it looked like we got at least 2 or 3 scoops, extremely generous portions. I could even finish it. Flavors we tried were black raspberry and blueberry pie. Black Raspberry was very good, better than blueberry flavor. Loved the quality of ice cream. It's quite busy and popular place, so be patient and nice to staff. Lol.

Single Scoop of Strawberry Chocolate Chip

This was in a residential neighborhood that only accepted cash. The location was small, and seating was not really available except outside. There were a number of different ice cream flavors to choose from with traditional and unique ones too. The service was friendly, and the line moved quickly with the number of people that were working. I had a single scoop of strawberry chocolate chip ($5.50). It was a generous scoop, and it was tasty. There was a good amount of chocolate chips present while the ice cream was creamy. There was a strong taste of strawberry, but not as much as I thought. I also tried the peanut butter Oreo and key lime pie flavors. The peanut butter Oreo was well put together. The peanut butter really was the key here. I did even think the Oreo pieces were needed. The real winner was the key lime pie. It was one of the better ice cream flavors I had. I am not a big fan of key lime pie in general, but this was superior. The pie crumb flavor was definitely tasted and made all the difference. It was great. Will I go back? Yes.

Absolutely the best ice cream in the area! It seems to be situated in a random residential area rather than a business plaza. Parking lot can get a little hectic as there are two entrance/exit areas and parking is a free for all. The ice cream parlor (building) is one way - good for traffic flow. They are CASH ONLY. You'll be tended to by one of many high school/college aged employees. As for the ice cream, you have many options to choose from. I've had the Oreo, pumpkin Oreo, rum raisin, and butter pecan. All wonderfully rich and creamy.

Van Dyk's has some dang good ice cream here and the crowds outside (during the summer) will tell you that. We came here at 7pm on what we thought was going to be a very warm and quiet Memorial Day weekend Sunday evening and it was anything but that on the quiet, residential street that Van Dyk's was on. It's quite easy to actually mistaken Van Dyk's for another house on the street, except for the fact that there's a sign outside of this bright pink house and a parking lot full of cars. As we waited a bit inside the parking lot, we saw throngs of customers go in empty handed and come out very, very happy with their cones and cups of delicious looking ice cream. When we finally went in, the 1st thing that we noticed was that it was quite bare inside. There were about 5-6 teenagers standing behind the counter and pretty much nothing else inside. Luckily, Van Dyk's post their menu on their website so we were able to do a little research ahead of time of how many scoops we wanted and which flavors. To be honest, none of the flavors jump out like "WOAHH I must get that", but they do have a long list of refreshing flavors still. We ended up getting 2 giant scoops - 1 Black Raspberry Chip and 1 Maple Walnut on a large waffle cone with free rainbow sprinkles on it. It came out to $8, which we paid in cash as they ONLY accept cash. We took a few photos by their far wall, which had Van Dyk's name on it and then immediately made our way outside onto the stoop as the inside quickly got crowded (to the point that a line formed outside). Verdict? VERY Delicious and refreshing ice cream. Unfortunately, it was a pretty hot and humid day so our ice cream began melting immediately when we stepped out. However, our kids loved every bit of the ice cream and we loved the flavors too. I definitely preferred the Black Raspberry Chip though and so did the kids as it had a fruitier taste to it. On a side note, the parking lot became an absolute nightmare as we were enjoying our ice cream right outside with other customers. There are about 15 parking spots outside, but it definitely got crowded in a hurry and difficult for many to navigate, so be prepared for the crush. However, with that said, we will definitely be back to try more flavors!

    Lemon Sorbet and Oreo Cappuccino

Fantastic homemade ice cream to really cool you down during these past days the weather has been HOT. Unique Flavors? It has them. Generous scoops? Oh hell yeah. Want a pint to go? They got em. Van Dyk is a great place to go get ice cream on the go or bring it back home. The lemon sorbet has a strong and refreshing taste. I got the Oreo Cappuccino, which I had NEVER seen that before, it's beautiful and brings a tear to my eye. I knocked one star off because of the following: Downsides: No seating, Cash Only, and Parking is plentiful but no street parking means that it will be hard to go in if the lot is full. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

    Double scoop -- under $6
    Megan Z.

Like most quaint homemade ice cream shops, this place is the bomb. They always have a great variety of flavors (most recently, I got a scoop of Raspberry Truffle and a scoop of Oreo Peanut Butter) and they are super generous with their portions -- my pic shows a Double Scoop in a Cup, and it's obviously way more than two scoops of ice cream. I probably ended up getting two scoops of each FLAVOR instead. As noted in many other reviews, it's cash only, so come prepared! A single scoop cup is between $4-5, and a double scoop in a cup is between $5-6. Their parking lot is small, it can fit maybe 13-15 cars (spaces aren't lined), so it's a good idea to park around the corner and walk in the summertime.

The ice cream is good and service parking is usually an issue and no place to eat ice cream inside. The ambience is grab and go.

In addition to ice cream cakes, they sell signature sundae type things that you can customize and likely friendly to the camera but not to your wallet.
