Sadly not what I remember. We started with spinach artichoke dip, it was ok, but lacked the main ingredient; spinach and artichoke. It was just a cheese dip. I ordered the chicken Milanese salad and it was absolutely disgusting. The picture speaks for itself. It was described as "House made crispy breaded chicken with rosemary". If that's homemade I don't want to know how. It was cut like a fan and appeared to be premade, rubbery and burnt breadcrumbs. Whenever I took a bite I couldn't take the DRIED rosemary taste. Who uses dried rosemary on anything?? I suggest to have the chef taste this, I refuse to believe anyone would intentionally have this on their menu. I ended up getting takeout at my recent visit here.. and I got to say when you're here they treat you like your family and half the times I've been putting my phone down and and enjoying the experience. Stopped in midday w a friend. Place is clean and feels like classic pizza joint . Staff was friendly and informative We got a salad and pasta fagiole. Both were abundant and fresh. This is a regular local stop for me. First draw for me has always been the fine craft beer selection but the food is good to excellent depending on what you have from their fairly wide ranging menu. My favorites are the chef salad choices, pizza and pasta fagioli. But there are many other ways to go. It's a casual tavern atmosphere with tv viewing available throughout out. They also have a good sized deck for the warmer weather. Draft & cans/bottled beer selection is possibly the best in the greater Waterbury (along with The Corner Tavern in Naugatuck). Plenty of parking, very appropriate for family dining, open all week long for lunch & dinner. Clean facilities and a fun atmosphere always. Service is typically prompt and pleasant. read more

Stopped as I was passing through to grab some food to go. Ordered Two meatball grinders and a Cobb salad, one with raw onions, one with green peppers. Had a drink while I waited for the food to be prepared. There were a few tables with people eating and the bar was almost empty. 37 minutes later my grinders and salad came out. I live 8 minutes away. My wife had everything ready for us to eat. The Cold, dry grinders and one with no peppers were disappointing. Salad looked fancy so I'm assuming grinders were out in 10 minutes and it took someone 20 minutes to cut an avocado and chop up the rest of the veggies. Very lackluster and disappointing. Bartender was nice and my drink was good while I waited. Think it's a hard pass for to-go orders. Maybe we will stick to eating in. Sat outside with some friends. We ordered our food before the rest of our party came. We got it after our later people ordered. And it was appetizers! Ordered the pot-chos and was unimpressed with them. Needed salt and pepper on the potatoes. Goat cheese flat bread was tasty and the goat cheese pizza needs some color on it mayve some arugula? My friend had the fish and chips dinner and didn't get her side salad. The waitress asked her if she wanted it to go, and my friend said no. No option to just get it. Strange. read more

I have eaten at pies and pub three times in the the last three months. I have no complaints and we leave after every visit full and happy. Their specials are seasonal and unique, and there are plenty of old standbys to choose from as well. Stopped here because it was on way to Mohegan Sun. Great place! Good beer selection we had delicious IPAs. Hot pretzel was great. Then had Cob Salad also good. Our server Georgia was fantastic. We decided to go for brunch, it was lovely. Amazing Bloody Mary and nice food options. I had the cannoli French toast with homemade cream. It was to die for and the portion was huge! My husband had the Monti Cristo which was also exceptional, he added eggs and they were heavenly. I can't wait to go back next week to try something else. read more

Holy crazy parking lot. It's straight down a giant hill and there's not much room. Thankfully, I came when it wasn't busy. I had a gift card. $25 is $25. My expectations based upon Yelp reading was super low. It wasn't really as bad as I expected. We made it in time for happy hour. So we indulged in the $5 nachos. Hard to argue the price. A lot of olives, jalapeños onions and tomatoes in there. The cheese underneath wasn't fully melted. I would say it was acceptable. I read some horror stories about the sauce. So I veered towards a white pizza. Manage your expectations. So I got a buffalo chicken pizza. It was actually quite good. No complaints there. I had two German styled microbrews. One was made in Waterbury and one was from Poughkeepsie. Not bad beers per se. Drinkable but not particularly representative of the styles and certainly not on par with an import from Germany. Waitress was nice and helpful. One qualm about the service though. I checked in one Yelp and it said $1 off lunch. So it was like 5:30 and the $1 was good for 3 hours. So I showed the waitress and said I have a discount for $1 for checking in. She was like well it's really not lunch anymore. The discount expired in three hours and it's really not going to be lunch for about another 20 hours was what I was thinking. It's a buck. Nothing not worth tipping 20% over. This place used to be pretty good but the pizza we had was terrible yesterday. We hadn't been in a while because the last time we were there it wasn't great but we figured we would give them another shot. The cheese was way too heavy and filled with oil. The service was also really bad. The place was almost empty and our waitress didn't even check on us or refill our drinks. The other issue was our appetizer came out and a few minutes later our pizza came out. Then when we were done we waited 15 minutes for our leftovers to be cleared and our check to arrive. We've eaten here many times in the past few years and enjoyed our meals. The quality at Pies and Pub has changed for the worse in the past year. We're not customers that complain often but the last three times we've eaten here the food was awful. Tonight my wife had shrimp tacos which she has enjoyed here before. The waitress said there was a special price tonight. Is that good news? No, that's bad news.. where's the shrimp? Just a few small pieces here and there. I always have enjoyed their pizza but there's no quality control in the kitchen. The server brought my pizza to our table and said - oh, that's really burned so I'll get you another. My family choose this spot to try on a Tuesday. Came in for 8:30. Good beer selection. However, food not good. Mack a Cheese came out cold. Ive ordered pizza that was hotter when I picked it and brought it home. It was taco Tuesday and there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant. I asked if they could possible give me 2 chicken and 1 shrimp taco just to try. It was an automatic "nope"answer. They have to all be the same flavor. I asked the waitress if she could ask the cook to make an exception Since it was extremely slow and my first time trying their food. We were only 1 of 2 patrons In the whole establishment. The smallest courtesy of granting a reasonable request would have went a long way. " If we do it for 1, we gotta do it for all". Ok. I can see if it was busy. The chicken tacos were not warm and they were dry. At the end the waitress asked why I didn't ask for the food to be warmer. And honestly, I shouldn't ask for hot food at a restaurant. This review is based on an experience I had at the ice cream window 6/14. Having visited this business' page now, I'm not at all surprised to hear about the awful service here. I would love for this place to disappear so that someone who can contribute something of value to society could take its place. I went for a run. I seem to go on these annually without any hitches (yes, you read that right, annually), but this one was just a series of unfortunate events that culminated in the misfortune of stopping here. I have never needed to stop at some random place and ask for water, but somehow I ended up feeling like a salted eggplant on a 90 degree day. Slowing to a crawl paced walk, I noticed that the ice cream window here had just opened. There wasn't a single person in sight. I ambled over, legs shaking, about to give way to the dehydrated being they were supporting, I asked if it was possible to get a glass of water. 'No, we don't have any carry out glasses.' Assuming that they may have had legitimate glassware, I asked if it was possible to drink some water and return the glass.' 'No, all of our plastic glasses have our logos on them and cost $1.00 so...' Incredulous with the fact that this is the first time in my life someone has denied me a cup of water, and understanding that this wasn't going to go anywhere. I walked the last half mile to my car and promptly stopped at the first place I saw to get some precious gold; ice cold water. Yes, I bought this one. Sorry I don't routinely run 6 miles with my wallet shoved into my sports bra or something. I would never have wrote them a review for their food, but while I'm here I might as well tell you it's garbage. My family ordered once to support a local-ish business since we always order from Middlebury pizza. Somehow, they managed to create a barely edible looking round thing that was as greasy and abhorrent as their service. What is this supposed to be, New York, Detroit, New Haven style? It's like a two year old that loves oil cheese used these ingredients unsupervised on a piece of cardboard and stuck it in the oven. If you live in the area and want convenient delivery, shoutout to Middlebury Pizza! Obviously, it's where I should have stopped and succumbed to my thirst to begin with. I'm not quite sure why this place has seen so many haters! I thought it was fantastic!! I had the calamari appy, and I have to say, I'm a calamari enthusiast! This was one of the best I've ever had! Very unique, with Gorgonzola and jalapeños added. SOOO yummy! Had the P.O.B. Pizza (Potato, Onion, Bacon) and it was stellar! Caramelized onions, potato slices thin and crumbly bacon...yum! Had the P&P Bulldozer IPA, and I was very happy with the brew!! I think people come here thinking it's something it's not. I didn't have that problem, obviously! I'm usually not a person who is sensitive to texture. But I ordered a chicken wrap with avocado in it and it was about three different textures involved with it. Crunchy, soggy, mushy, with no taste to it at all. The avocado had no flavor at all. I would not recommend the wrap to anyone. The first time they did not offer me any kind of discount or anything, and asked if I wouldn mind sitting there for 20 minutes for them to correct the pizza. Pies & Pints of Middletbury makes a reasonable pizza and has a decent tap list. if you are passing by it is worth stopping in to see what is on tap and enjoy a few pints. the pizza - i don't know where i would say it falls on the pizza map - it's not new haven or new york, not really italian or greek - maybe something like a thin crust greek pie? i don't know if that's a thing. overall it was OK and i really have no complaints but I wouldn't call this place a pizza destination, but it is a beer destination - so if you are looking for brew, head to Pies & Pints. (also it is conveniently located along side a nice hiking trail that we hike on when it is warmer) Also worth noting, the large pie is very large. read more

I'm a little torn about this place. For the "pies" side, I would have to give them about a 2 start review. The pizza that we had (just a normal pepperoni pizza) tasted almost like a frozen pizza. In fact, the Newman's Own pizzas that I have had were a little better than the pizza here. The wings had pretty good flavor, but they were small and too well done for my taste. Now for the "Pints" side: they actually have a very good variety of beers; I think I counted between 20 and 30 different kinds/brands of beers, so that would be around a 4+ review. SO take the 2 for the food and the 4 for the beer and you get a 3 star review. read more
