I came here for an impromptu lunch with the woman's group from my church. It was a great time. We were seated quickly - even though we were a nice sized party. And there were others dining. The waitress was very kind. The selection of food at lunch time is amazing and I can't believe the portion sizes. I ordered the eggplant parm which came with a side of salad or soup and pasta. I was stuffed but still had enough food to give my two sons for dinner. Big win- no cooking after an amazing lunch with loved ones. I tried the house dressing which was amazing and garlicky- but not as rich as I expected. The waitress allowed me to have a cup of ranch to mix it. And that was perfect! Even when packing my food, she brought me a cup of red sauce to reheat my food at home. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meal. And the waitress came back multiple times to check on us. I love this place, a true rugged Waterbury staple, but with edgy upscale-ness . It's always a go to, always popping, always happening, esp during school breaks . A mix of a crowd, always, all ages, all types of people, always makes me feel hip. The environment is lit, as in you wanna be there -- not literally bright but not dim as heck. This will always be my go to when I wanna escape yet be indirectly included -- even if I don't speak to not one person but the bartender. The food is not terrible, sub-par to say the least but also delicious; it's truly a tearing opinion. Place was absolutely packed on a Saturday night. Parked out back and met friends at a table in the bar area. Waiter was quick to welcome us and take our order for beverages and apps. Great Italian menu with all sorts of Italian dishes and pub faire. The specials menu was interesting and we ended up with Clams and Shrimp Fra Diavlo and a Mediterranean style prime rib. Service and speed of preparation time was spot on, Portions were very generous, and the food quality and flavor was excellent! Prices were fair for what you received and drinks were generous as well. Im always polite and respectful but the Two male bartenders are awful and they dont care! Not friendly at all! I once ordered a drink, never got it, when i asked for it again, the skinny white bartender left it on another side and said he forgot, didnt apologize or make another one. I went another time, asked for a drink never got it!! I didnt even bother to ask again because of my first time experience. They never ask if you need anything, never offer anything, to get their attention is a problem, they are very nice with the people they know, it was evident as they knew them by name, took care of them immediately and were very attentive. A while back I wrote about a bad experience with a very salty chicken parmesan grinder ( which was disappointing indeed). On the flip I would like to say, "that was the only negative experience I ever had at Spartans." So with that said, I highly recommend their ribeye steak grinder. It always hits the spot when your hungry and the gyros are a great bite. As for the pizza, it's always loaded with motz and the sauce is great also. The sausage is always on point and the crust is crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside like Greek pizza should be. So, if you want to eat well, especially during the late hours of the night (since Spartans is always open late) then stop in. The pizza never disappoints. read more

OMG! When I was heading to this restaurant, I was not expecting such a great find! Nice bar area and the service was great. I love a spinach pie and theirs was so delicious (Probably one of the best I've ever had!). I ordered a side of sweet potato fries because I thought it was going to be small. It was so big! Still one of our favorites. I like knowing the menu- and also knowing there has never been a bad choice. I broke my norm (Buffalo chicken wrap is the best I have ever had anywhere) for the chicken gyro. It was a great decision! As was the kid's hamburger (it's the same size as the adults). Nachos and French onion soup started this out. WAY TOO much food- but will taste even better tomorrow! And what lovely service in the dining room. I can't believe I have passed by Spartans so many times, but never tried them out-they have been open for nearly 50 years (46 to be exact). Recently we held my co-worker's farewell party here. And it was a great time, it seems to be a very popular spot with lots of people coming and going. While there I ordered a Tito's Lemonade which was the crowd favorite. It was indeed delicious. I also ordered a margarita and it was good too. For food we had the Nachos which came with nacho chips covered with jalapenos peppers, tomatoes, scallions, and melted cheese. It also came with sour cream and salsa on the side. We also added beef to them. We also ordered the Spartan wings which were super good.You can get them with BBQ or buffalo, but we got them with buffalo sauce which I felt was mild, but also had a little sweetness to it. We also got their traditional pan pizza which I really liked, it was not overly greasy. I definitely will be visiting more often. I returned to Spartans to try out their meatball grinder. The grinder comes with sliced meatballs, but honestly it seemed more like sliced meatloaf than sliced meatballs. The grinder also comes with mozzarella, marina, and green peppers, but I declined the peppers. The grinder was good, but in the future I would have more marina be added. read more

Every time I ordered food from Spartan's Pizza, it was always good, but this time, it was disappointing. I ordered a chicken parm grinder, and it was extremely salty. Why did they feel the need to add so much salt? it's an enigma! The grinder was barely editable; It was so heavily salted that I could actually see the salt crystals glistening off of the chicken. With that said, I'm extremely disappointed that such a reliable establishment would serve food this subpar. Hopefully, this was a fluke that will be corrected. Went in for dinner last night and was immediately greeted and sat in the bar area. My server Kristen, came over to acknowledge me and offer water while I waited for my other guest. She must have seen him come in because when she came back with my water she had one for him as well. Kristen was one of the best servers I have had in a long time, and don't we just love great service?! She was helpful with the menu and was attentive with a great attitude. She gave me no problems when I asked for a certain drink a certain way: the bartender Joelle made me the most amazing espresso martini and if I wasn't driving, would have ordered another. Thank you Kristen and Joelle As for the food, we ordered a small salad to start and we're offered bread as well ( so good! ), the salad portion was enormous for a small at a great price point. The first time I've been here, I sat at the bar with a friend, and we ordered a wrap and some pizza, and it was amazing after I have always ordered their calzones, which is the size bigger than my face and great ingredients. I would say the prices for their items are little on the higher side, but if you want to experience, great vibes, good music, amazing customer service, and good food. I would say it's all worth it. Awesome Greek style pizza! Always cooked through with a delicious sauce and all toppings always taste fresh with a medium to thin crunchy crust with a balanced body. I am interested in trying their non pizza items as well soon. This pizza to me which reminds me of 4 corners pizza in Prospect, Ct. back in the 80's through 90's that used to be my once weekly go to spot. They were Greek style also. Always a go to spot. Specials are great, pizza is pretty good if you're into a thicker crust. I always ask for it extra crispy. I usually sit at the bar, Scotty, Matt, and Dan are always awesome and know how to do their job professionally while having fun with it.
