I'm a craft beer fan, so when I first heard about this place I was fairly excited about giving it a try. Since they opened last year, I have been about a handful of times. Honestly, given their beer selection, it's a great place, the food however, can really be hit or miss. I've had the buffalo chicken sliders, which honestly, were amazing, but I have also had a burger and fries which just didn't really hit the spot. The burger just seemed bland, no major flavor. I ordered it medium, and it came out close to well done, so a lot of the flavor was burned out of it. Since they have opened, they have expanded to about 30 taps. On Tuesday nights, they offer select drafts at $2 which is honestly a great deal. It's usually never the "macro" beers either. With that being said, if you're looking for a good beer selection for some drinks after dinner, watching a game, or just hanging out, definitely go there. I may be a little biased about this place, as I've been coming here (alot) for years. Theo and Chris the owners have expanded upon and improved on an already great restaraunt/bar/hangout place created by Bill Perrotti. The menu is amazing now, the food delicious, and the pizza, which they are famous for..out of this world. We had a private party in the room behind the bar with maybe 40 people last night. Theo and the staff were very attentive to our every need, and everybody remarked how much they enjoyed the service and great food. Best of all the price was very reasonable for that many people. I'm typically not one to take the time to review a restaurant, but these other reviews are completely misleading. I visited this restaurant twice: Once when it was Perrotti's and then again yesterday under its new ownership, "Pies and Pint's". As Perrotti's, the restaurant was just okay. A place that we would go when out of ideas and wanted something quick and lackluster. Yesterday's visit to "Pie's and Pints" was awesome. First, the menu has everything you could want. We first ordered wings, they gave a Fried, Grilled or Baked option. We liked that! We then ordered 2-pizzas (meat-lovers and a seafood): Being a complete restaurant and pizza snob, I was pleasantly surprised. The meats were high-quality and tasted great. The seafood pizza was of equal high quality. The homemade ice cream is out of control, I would go back just to have it again. Now it comes down to the beer. They offer about 50+- different brews. Andy, the restaurants manager, was like a Sommelier of beer. He knew everything about all of their different options and recommended a beer that I have never heard of or would ever order, LOVED IT. Service: Perfect! The staff seemed to love what they do and had great attitude. Andy brought a level of energy into the restaurant that made us want to stay all night. Bottom-Line: Pie's and Pint's is a refreshing option if you are looking for an unpretentious, relaxed environment with high-quality product. I will be back. Whenever the question of the best pizza in Connecticut comes up, it generally revolves around The Big Three (which I won't mention here because I think they're ALL over-rated). And to some, the pizza at The Big Three is where it's at. However, to this nutmegger, that just isn't the case. Pies and Pints, to me, is the best pizza in Connecticut. Their pizza sizes are QUITE generous, their toppings are ALWAYS fresh, they are generous with the toppings. Perrottis this is not. That's a good thing if you want a good bar. That's a bad thing if you want good pizza. I was disappointed a number of years ago to hear that Perrottis was closing and being sold and re-opened with a corny name of Pies & Pints. This news came with pros and cons. The pro being that the restaurant would now have a bar. The con being that the food would arguably suffer and sadly this has been the case. The pizza is just kind of bland. It has no real flavor and is really greasy. It's not terrible like Dominoes or Little Caesars but it's nowhere near the average pizza place that is omnipresent in this area. Middlebury Pizza in walking distance down in the next plaza doesn't have amazing pizza, but it's better than here. The main draw of Pies & Pints is the bar. They have a huge tap with 28 beers on it. There's a large variety of beers and their appetizers are pretty good and blend well with the beer. Although the times I've eaten pizza here with beer, it has tasted better than when eating take out pizza, but that might just be the beer talking. The food gets 2-stars, the bar gets 4-stars, so the final score is an even 3-star. This place isn't bad and is really good for the area to add some semblance of non-elderly activity. The restaurant is clean and the bar is usually pretty busy, staff is very nice. It really is a good place to go grab drinks and some appetizers, but for take out pizza, there are dozens of better options within a 20 minute drive. read more

Disappointed at the new way they are serving the "fresh" salads. this is the second time I have gotten my salad with a large portion of the chopped salad turning brown. Its obvious the salad was premade a day or two ahead and then just dropped the toppings on the top of the bowl of lettuce. Won't be returning. This place was amazing! I needed to host a 30th birthday party and this place was perfect. I had to book with them last minute as my last spot gave away our private room and Pies and Pubs were more than wonderful about it all. I get take out from here all the time so I knew the food was great but I had no idea that had a great room at the back of the bar area. It's a hidden gem; the room has big garage door windows that open up to a patio as well. The space was perfect, the food was great, and the service was wonderful! All the guests loved the food and atmosphere! Our waitress was great! She not only had our large party of 30 people but also had other tables she was serving; and she still did amazing!! Living in Middlebury, this is one of my go-to places for a quick dinner after work. The BBQ chicken pizza is my favorite, but the burgers are also excellent. I haven't explored the menu too much, but everyone always seems to enjoy their meal and the place is usually very busy around dinner time. Of course, one of the best features of Pies & Pints is the beer selection. They have something like 10 or 12 beers on tap and about 30 bottled beers available at any one time. I should also say that the place is great for events, too. As the Alumni Director at a local private school, we recently had a young alumni get-together there and the entire staff was wonderfully accommodating. I worked closely with the owner, Theo, who printed us drink tickets (the first drink was covered by the School), arranged for a DJ to be there that night, had a promotional banner made up with the School logo to welcome our group. Theo kept in close contact with me through the process and was a great host. Everyone had an excellent time. read more

This is a more rustic setting with dark wood interior. Seating area include booths near the bar and more family friendly seating in the back of the building and outside on a deck. My wife and I went twice over the past few months. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. They give their opinions which are welcome. For example my wife and I were debating a tomato pizza pie and couldn't decide on making it red or white. Our waiter suggested making it half and half. I know they have a lot of offerings. But we are addicted to their pizza. I should mention they have a take-away counter which is convenient. The two times we went so far we had the margarita pizza and the tomato pie. Both were over the top excellent. I particularly like the thin crust. My wife likes a glass of wine while I enjoy a good number of beer offerings. We are building a second home near our children and grandchildren. The only person who will not be happy with my love for their pizza will be my doctor. However for the health conscious, they have a walking path that goes right past their establishment if you are so inclined. I would go BEFORE eating. I'm looking forward to my next visit as our house is still under construction. read more

Lots of negative reviews about the pizza... I don't get it. My wife and I think it's one of the best pizzas we've ever had including Frank Pepe in New haven and many NYC pizza places. Here's the secret in both my opinion and that of the many people I've shared with at the bar. Ask for your pizza thin crust and extra crispy. If you like it that way, it's friggen delicious. If you order a thick crust, plain or single topping pizza, well, you don't really like pizza so your opinion doesn't count. Stick to frozen or a chain place. The wings and sandwiches are both good. We custom order every time and they are always open to it (e.g. ordering the fried chicken sandwich with roasted red peppers, fresh raw spinach, bacon and fresh mozzarella. YUM!) Bottom line, we can argue about pizza preferences, but the beer selection is fantastic. I don't care if you hate the food, if you like beer, come to this bar. Tuesday nights has select drafts for $2. Edit: Oh yeah, the bartenders are really nice :) Can't comment about the rest of the wait staff, we always eat and drink at the bar. read more

Totally done with ever ordering from them again!!!! They just can't get it right. A while ago I ordered a Gyro Salad and the Gyro meat was missing...REALLY. Now my husband just came back from picking up our food and my daughter's very simple order of Linguine and marinara sauce had muscles on it! She hates seafood and honestly could have been allergic to seafood. The girls who took the order even repeated it to me so I assume the kitchen staff is just incompetent! Stumbled upon this one summer night a couple years ago. Have been going there with friends & family for special occasions since! The pizzas are great - chicken florentine or eggplant may be the favorites so far. My very picky father swears by the steak sandwich. We ordered 5 pizzas for a kid's birthday party and the consensus amongst the adults around the table was that there is no compelling reason the order from this restaurant again. The crust was tough and tasteless, and the pizza was dry. I had to drink water with each bite to get it down. I haven't been here for a while. There's a good reason. Judging from the other reviews, I guess things haven't changed much. Let me tell you a story . . . When it first opened, I would stop in on occasion, mostly to sit at the bar in the afternoon. Drinks were reasonably priced, and it was quiet. There was always a soccer game on the television. Apparently, they could only get one channel and that was it. I managed to convince a friend to join me one afternoon. After a couple of cocktails, we decided to order a pizza. The choice was left to me, and after looking through the menu, settled on the "Meat Lover" pie (pepperoni, bacon, sausage, meatball). I was hungry, and ordered a large, and told them to double the meat. When it came out, it had a couple sad pieces of pepperoni and a few thin slices of meatball. No bacon, no sausage. We brought this to the attention of the server, who got the manager/owner. He looked at it and asked, "What's wrong with this?" When I pointed out the lack of double meat (BTW - $1.50 each additional topping, which meant I spent $26), or even all the regular meat promised, he told me that this is the way it's made. When I began to point out (I don't argue-I reason) that this wasn't what was promised on the menu, nor what I expected, he told me that if I didn't like it, I didn't have to come back. I paid my bill and we left, never to darken their doorway again. Since I don't drink beer, the numerous taps on the wall don't interest me. If I did drink beer, there are several other places around that have a similar selection. I have had pizza from there since, at parties, meetings and such, and I was still not impressed with what they produced. I'm not saying it was the worst pizza I ever had (that honor goes to a hotel kitchen in St. Louis - spaghetti sauce on bread dough with slices of American cheese), but it was far outside the norm for the area. I really liked the place, but it was no Perotti's. The skimpiness of the toppings on the pie wasn't the issue, it was the "take it or leave it" attitude of the person with whom I dealt that was the deal killer. I'm glad some people have had better experiences. For me, that one episode was a deal-breaker. read more

Last night I called to say I had group of aprox 15-20 people stopping in after 30+ mile training bike ride for drinks and food. There was a car show going on and place was packed! They were still able to accommodate our large group in their events and party area next to the bar! Service was excellent as well as the food even with our large group and crowded location!! Unfortunate bad experience - the tomato and basil pizza was slobbered with cheese. They erred and corrected with a small version done correctly, yet charged us for the full. Foolhardy on their part. Must say, the bacon pizza was delicious. Have eaten here before and our pizzas were good. Not sure what's gone wrong here. We politely complained, yet when the bill arrived the bill still listed the pizza (of which we ate only 1 slice). After making a comment, they said the manager gave no credit ... then changed their mind. Could have been Yelp appearing on my iPhone (hmmm). read more

Pies and Pints is a restaurant that recently opened in Middlebury and it appears that they are definitely still working out some of the kinks. First of all, the layout is very strange, with two separate dining rooms divided by a crowded and poorly laid out bar. It is very difficult to stand there to order a drink because servers are constantly walking back and forth to the kitchen. In general, the service was very disorganized and chaotic, especially while you are waiting in the suffocatingly loud bar area. This problem was confounded by the horribly inattentive bartender that spent most of her time flirting with some men at the end of the bar. When we were finally seated, we sat in the back room that feels totally disconnected from the rest of the restaurant and even has different decor than the other areas. It was very disconcerting. Our server was very strange and seemed to try to make awkward jokes with us and even sitting down in the booth next to my wife when we ordered. It definitely made us both very uncomfortable. Because of the Yelp reviews, we stayed away from the pizza (which looked really awful on the tables we walked by) and instead ordered a salad and a sandwich. Many of the menu options seemed VERY expensive, especially for the sub par quality we got. The sandwich was cold and looked like someone had sat on it when they brought it out. I certainly would not have been happy if I spent $17.99 on a pasta dish and it was of the same quality. The only true positive aspect of my visit here was the beer selection. They have a large selection of craft beer on tap with many delicious options. However, it would be nice if the bartenders and servers actually knew what they were serving instead of saying, "I don't know what it is, have a sample"! Overall, I was not impressed. I would potentially come back for a drink if I was driving by, but I don't think I would ever have any desire to eat the food they make or deal with the servers they employ ever again. read more

If would have asked me what I thought of this location when it was newer, I would have given it a higher rating. It has gone down hill fast. And it's really too bad, because if you live here, you don't have many options. The best thing about this place is the beer. They do have a great variety. But see the trick is getting good service in order to get said beer. We went in here a couple of weeks ago to order a drink while waiting for out pizza. We sat at the bar, got a menu from the bartender, then she disappeared. We picked out what we wanted pretty quick.. then we waited.. and waited.. 10 minutes go by.. my boyfriend was getting up to leave. I didn't realize that was the plan so I called to the hostess at the same time to ask where the bartender was. Took her a couple of minutes to get her too. But the thing is, this isn't our only experience of being left to wonder what the hell was going on. This just happened to be the time that made up throw in the towel. We've had to track down anyone we could find for out bill or to order another beer, the food isn't so great (I've actually had to send back a salad...?!), but ... oh the beer. But now, not even worth it. I've been having some pretty bad experiences with service recently (I've already signed off on Triple Play and Ceviche.. same owner.. I know) so we really wanted this place to be the go to. But after all the bad experiences (I really don't have the time to type them all out) with service, we just can't make it back in unless we hear there's been a revamp. I've been here a couple times for dinner on a weekend and it has been pretty good. I like the pizza because the crust is not too thick and the sauce is good. It isn't super greasy either, which is a plus. The menu is pretty extensive- you can get wings, sandwiches, burgers, and of course pizza. My sister had chicken parm sliders and she said they were great. They have a nice selection of draft beers to chose from also. My one complaint is that your clothes and hair end up smelling like the kitchen when you leave. read more

We visited this location many times when Perotti's Pizza was there. This past Sunday we stopped by for a quick lunch. The space has been remodeled with a more modern look; very clean and stylish. The service was prompt and friendly. The menu is lighthearted with a selection of slider choices that my children enjoyed. I had a simple antipasto salad to start- large, generous portion- but can we get back to the days when restaurants made their own house vinagrette? I hate that blended balsalmic crap that everyone puts out now. Unfortunately...the pizza... Maybe I'm a pizza snob but the crust was like a cereal box - flat, tasteless, dry. Poor quality mozzarella with the worst sweet sauce. I don't know if that is meant to be a greek style pizza that I don't care for or if we just got a bad pie. I will definitely try them again when we are in Middlebury because the owner was very nice, he came over personally to welcome us with his young daughters. read more
