Most items tasted homemade with except being the tortellini. The service and the ambiance was very good.

Finally tried a pizza from Johnny Tomatoes in Venice, off of Tamiami near Walmart…read more(Tamiami/Jacaranda). For all the hype that this is NJ thin crust, I personally, was disappointed. The Pepperoni Pizza we had was ok, not great nor bad. I have been down here for almost 3 years and have yet to find "authentic". Jersey or NY Pizza. There are plenty of places in Venice that offer good pizza. Food is very personal and many if not most, like tastes that remind them of what they might have grown up with. This doesn't only apply to pizza. I like Asaros (takeout), and places like Naples and Made in Italy for bar size pizza (eat in). I have tried others like Angelos, Sicilia's (sic), and others. They too are ok, but not what I prefer as a go to "pie". I would say give Johnny Tomato's a try. The staff are nice and it might be good for you. I would say the crust is similar to Dominos. For those of you who might not like my judgement, just for background, I grew up in NJ, worked 4 years in a Pizzeria in Madison NJ (Romanelli's) and have been spoiled by NY pizza from John's Pizza off of Broadway (old church bldg) and in Jersey City. I love Regina Pizza in Boston (original location on Thatcher St in the Northend) and loved the Haymarket Pizza in the late 80's the first time I moved to Boston. Don Pepe's in New Haven CT is great too, though their lack of style in slicing pizza ticks me off. They just hap hazardly cut it which ever which way! I also love Detroit and Chicago deep dish ... different styles but nonetheless delicious. Don't take my word for it, but try Johnny Tomatoes for yourself. August 7, 2026 - Two for Take Out : First Visit…read more I bought a house in LOW in 2024 and have driven past and in this shopping center for 2+ years. We do pizza about once or twice a month. (we have been going to another place for a year - further away and currently close until EOM August/September) This would be a great spot since it's under a mile from "the home shack." We are from Philly (45 years growing up, school, college etc.) with heavy Italian influences and I think better pizza and tomato pies that NY, and also from Long Island recently after 16 years, where the pizza is not that great quite frankly. The quest is ON here in Florida for 5 years? We got a plain cheese since that is where the reference standard is? I opted for "thin" crust I don't know why, mainly because others are so doughy and sometimes undercooked - I should have given them a chance to do that. This pie was thin and then the crust a little dry and crunchy and the crust like a cookie. I will take the error and will try their regular standard pie. I think the dough had a good flavor but it was overcooked. The cheese was good quality not all whey cheapened up and nice and 'stringy. The sauce was also nicely spiced and authentic. So the basics are there. 6/10 The boss is really a wing fan (and of course sadly only likes flats) so this plant based vegan does go off script for the pizza and then the "drums" are mine unless she really loves them! This kiss of death for any place is if the flats are not AT LEAST 50% of the order. Leone's passed this test. phew! Its a 5 piece order so there can be mathematical problems here. We got an order of standard mild buffalo and then an order of garlic parmesan. (Picture attached somewhere.) We do like them "well" done which really means properly cooked since so many are rubbery and undercooked and it seems Sal is more concerned with getting the order out and fast is better than good and well done. You know Sal Manilla? (snicker) These wings however are sent swimming in the deep fryer. They are obviously quite crispy on the outside and this type of high heat murders the meat on crisps the skin but then inject the fryer oil fat etc. etc. This is not very healthy (of course Sal is whipping this out quickly and on "short" order. We prefer BAKED wings. Sadly for all these restaurants my wife is a great cook and since she loves wing (flats) she makes truly the best baked wings I have ever eaten from buffalo, to Long Island to Philly to anywhere. But the secret is SLOW & LOW. (the other place we normally frequent does this) I may ask if they can bake the wings when I go back for Round 2. Good flavor and seemed like good product. Don't like the deep frying and over cooked. 5/10 The place is very nice for dining in and I have seen it MOBBED!!! The wait staff and people seemed attentive and pleasant and I think have been there successfully for years. We/I will be back and possibly to dine in, but at least another take out for sure. Regular Plain (not thin) and since they don't do a Spec Pizza maybe the Margarita or Grandma or something as well. Will investigate the "baked" wings request as well - the deep fry is a no?

Staff is friendly and very accommodating to make sure you get what you want. I know because I'm married to Mr. Picky, and he always asks for items to be left off his plate. The wings perfectly fried disappointing the sauce was poured over top of the wings not tossed. I complained to the waiter, who was also the owner, and he asked if I wanted something else, which I did not; then he took the chicken strips back to the kitchen. My partner finished his Rueben sandwich and the owner/waiter, John, took my debit card saying, " you don't have to leave a tip since your chicken was so awful!" I assumed he had removed the $12.00 charge for chicken strips that I did not eat and he had taken away because they were dry and tasteless; however, this business owner charged us $33.17 for the chicken strips and the Rueben remarking sarcastically that 'there was nothing wrong with the chicken" after I was given the receipt to sign. When I asked him to take off the charge for the chicken strips that I had not eaten and that he confirmed he had thrown in the trash, he refused to do so telling me to " take it up with your credit card company." Blue Heron Pizza Pub in Port Charlotte, FL uses prepackaged food from a restaurant supply company ( confirmed by the owner, John) prepares the food in an airfryer and charges extravagant prices.
