However, the brisket looked and tasted like it was boiled in water, the cole slaw way spicy with a vinegar instead of mayonnaise coating, and the corn bread was forgettable. I should have turned around when I arrived and saw the trash scattered out in front and on the side of the building. 1) fried pickles pretty good 5/10 2) brisket- terrible, it was dry and tough. It was closer to overcooked thick sliced bacon than beef- 1/10 3) chicken sandwich - meat dry and bland, served on an artisano bun. Bun was too soggy to pick up the sandwich. 1/10 4) pulled pork sandwich- meat dry and served on the same soggy bun.1/10 5) Mac and Cheese- no real attempt at quality. Dry noodles with a dash of Costco shredded cheese. 1/10 6) Baked beans- low quality, poor flavor. Been coming here for 10 years and it's never been amazing food but perfectly serviceable, fine atmosphere, ok service etc. But this most recent visit was very disappointing. I ordered the same thing I have countless times before: ribs and pulled pork. But this time the ribs were small and tough, the pulled pork was cold and the cornbread was dry. Honestly, it would have been nice if that was all the corn bread was but unfortunately it also had one very long hair inside. Disgusting. I can't see myself ever returning. But it shouldn't be too much of a surprise as the decline of this place is exemplary of every other restaurant in Whitefish: They only have to cater to tourists who will be gone tomorrow so they don't even try to earn repeat business. read more

Really, really awful service. Our food took an hour and a half to come out (it's a bbq place, this could be excusable) and our waiter was rude. They were out of most of the beer and cider that they have listed on the menu and we were blatantly ignored by our server for most of the night. Our food was dry and lacked the flavor we expect from here. As Whitefish locals (not recent transplants either) I am thoroughly disappointed with every aspect of our experience. I've been getting takeout from Piggyback for a while now and we always have enjoyed it. The brisket is on the dry side if you prefer it that way it's delish. The pulled pork and ribs are also tasty. You get a lot of food if you order a platter, so you get your moneys worth. I think they have changed their menu over the past few months so somethings are a little different (can't get buffalo chips as a side anymore, added kettle chips instead). Overall if you're in Whitefish and you want some good BBQ check out Piggyback! Small amount of indoor seating, large amount of outdoor seating. Awful. Just plain awful. :-( If you're looking for ridiculously poor service and the worst smoked brisket you'll probably ever eat, THIS is the place to go. Our needs were simple: We arrived at 4pm on Thursday and ordered a half pound of brisket and a half pound of links...to go. The place was not busy *at all*. How difficult and time-consuming could a take-out order like that be? Right? (Here it comes.) It took them 30 minutes to slice eight pieces of brisket (description of brisket to follow) and throw a sausage link into a cardboard to-go box. Let me repeat that: 30 minutes. :-( The Brisket: Dear Lord, what a walloping catastrophe. Dry, dry, dry, dry, dry. Clearly, they're using a really cheap cut of brisket flat and then just overcooking it. In my own experience smoking brisket, I've literally thrown away brisket that was much better than what Piggyback served. Piggyback should be embarrassed by their service and the horrible (understatement) brisket they produce. read more

Where to start? Ohh, yes, the house cornbread plus the home butter a magical combination. I ate it all in 5 seconds. The fried sweet potatoes were delicious . Came here after a 25 mile hike in Glacier park. Well worth the drive!! The smoked chicken wings were outstanding super crispy and cooked to perfection...for the main courses we had brisket which was just amazingly smoked and very flavorful. I had a cubano sandwich which was also outstanding!! There was the added bonus if live music in the night we were there. The service was great, friendly staff and prompt service. We are visiting from out of town, and saw this barbecue joint. We smelled the cherry wood from the smoker as soon as we pulled up. We went inside and ordered dinner. The staff was extremely friendly especially Caitlyn. I ordered the brisket and ribs with macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. The macaroni and cheese was awesome, the coleslaw had AA tiny vinegar taste. The brisket was very nicely done with a dice smoke ring. The Saint Louis style ribs were a bit dry and overcooked to almost beef jerky consistency. Over all it was a good experience and I look forward to going back again. It the ribs were more on point I would have rated 5 stars. read more

There is nothing positive that can be said about this restaurant and service. We were looking forward to a good experience after reading about the allegedly great bbq here. We sat for 20 minutes before a server ever came to take our order. We finally received our drinks which were one soda and one bottled beer. After 1 1/2 hour and asking about our order, it was brought to us. All this while, none of the three servers would make eye contact or ask if we would like another drink. The ribs were burned and so dry they couldn't be eaten. The pork had no flavor at all. The brisket was good. Everything else was cold (macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and cornbread). When the server saw we weren't eating and asked why, his response to the burned ribs was "yes, they are." Why would something have even been served to a customer when they knew it? His answer was "it's a small kitchen." Clearly, there was no interest in trying to improve upon the already failed experience. In fact, he brought the bill at the same time as the food. So, we paid for garbage and left. We will not be returning and will definitely not be recommending this restaurant to anyone else who plans on visiting Whitefish. read more

We could have turned this into a BBQ road trip, but not too many BBQ places to pick from over here in the area, so that put the brakes on that. We drove past here on the way to check out the Whitefish lake and decided to come the next day. The weather here is fickle, so we were lucky enough it warm and nice out because they have plenty of outdoor picnic tables. Lucky because everyone went outside and we were bee free inside... at least for five minutes. We got there around 7:30 and got seated right away. It was clear, pretty quick, that they had one waitress for the entire thing. While she took our order, in less than one minute, she had a line out the door. There were three tables inside and 6 tables outside, which all had no less than 5 people at them. She was doing her best to keep up and stayed really friendly. I did see a few people coming in and asking for drinks or to go boxes and the table next to us sat waiting fifteen minutes before she came back and left the check. They had been waiting to order dessert. With all that said, I think she did do a good job staying on top of things. Now to the good part, the food. I would have given them a 3, my husband said a solid 4. He likes the heavy smoke flavor and this place delivers a super smokey flavor on your meat. The wings we started with had such a good smokey flavor mixed with the dry rub, it made us question why we were not smoking wings at home. For a three meat combo ($14) you can pick from brisket, pulled pork, chicken, turkey and smoked sausage. I went with the turkey, chicken and brisket. The turkey I was surprised was super moist, however, there was something in the flavor overwhelming my taste buds. When I asked my husband if he wanted to try it, I threw him half of it and he loved it. He in turn gave me smoked sausage, which I didn't really want fearing the greasy, shiver feeling I might get from it. He assured me it was not that sausage. He was right. It was the best smoked sausage I've had in a bbq place. We got a 1/4 rack of ribs to split ($5). there are three bones in a small rack. I had one of them and it was not greasy and had good flavor and texture. The negative I will say, is they did not pull the silverback off the rib and when it smoked it turned into a not so fun to try to chew rib. It pulls off easy enough so crisis averted, eating commenced. The sides were okay. Another yelper I think, mentioned the mac N cheese is like Velveeta and shells, they are right. It needed salt or something. The slaw has relish mixed in and it is a vinegar based slaw, which normally I love, but did leave a lot of mine behind. My husband had the potato salad, which was average. He did get the Cajun rice that looked dried out and sad. I noticed he was not eating it and he said it was just okay. For the price, it is worth checking out, they give you plenty of food and it does have a good smokey flavor to it. They don't have cornbread, only hush puppies and honey butter. I grew up in Kentucky where everyone ate them with ketchup, so I had to have ketchup to find they only have ketchup packs here. They have fries on the menu, so I wondered about that. Ketchup packs just didn't fit this place, they were better than mere ketchup packs. If in Whitefish, I would recommend going and trying it for yourself, we did not leave hungry by any means. I came back to edit the review because three people have asked me if the pickles were good... sorry, totally forgot to add that in the review, I loved them. They had a the perfect amount of seasoning. My husband is spoiled on the thick spears at Fire on the Mountain, but he managed them pretty well. I would definitely add them to the order. read more

The restaurant industry is getting hammered right now and unfortunately, it's showing on service and food. This place is really cute with a good mix of outdoor and indoor tables. The three people who were working (one cook, order taker, food runner) were working their tails off and were really friendly. I won't talk negatively about them because at least they were there and working, and really doing the best they could. However, we arrived at 1 and placed our order. Most tables were full and no one was waiting . At the hour and a half mark waiting for the ordered food, we had to request it turn into a to go order because we needed to be somewhere. They were gracious about it and explained that everyone came in at once and the kitchen go overwhelmed. I get that... but it was 1 o'clock when we arrived... lunch time... that's when people eat mid day meals. When we were able to eat our take out, it was ok but the pork on the salsa verde salad tasted almost fried and the brisket sandwich was similar. I really feel bad for the service industry. It's hurting. This place needed way more staff. The people that were there were trying, but it's got to be really hard right now. From what we have been told, Whitefish is getting clobbered with lack of help this tourist season and this is happening at all the restaurants. Sadly, we will be making more trips to the grocery store and cooking ourselves until everything evens out. read more

I am leaving a rather unusual review for a restaurant. 6 of us ate here and some of our food was really good and some not so much. The brisket, macaroni, and hush puppies were very good. Ribs could have been cooked a little longer. The slaw is not creamy so not my favorite. Very dry and shredded pulled pork. However my unusual review is about the atmosphere. We were seated inside as it was a rather cool evening. Right outside the back door to a deck a dog was chained up. The poor animal was shivering and seemed to be neglected if not abused. He had patches of hair missing. The sight of him upset us as we are all dog lovers. I don't know what was going on that a place of business would have an animal on their premises but not take care of it but it spoiled our meal seeing this dog in distress. read more

Let me start by saying I never leave review unless it was so amazing I have to share. This food is the best BBQ ever but..... the service was absolutely horrible! After clearing off our own table, then waiting over 20 minutes for anyone to come take our order we had to go find someone to take our order, the waitress was absolutely annoyed to help us. Tables of people were leaving without being helped, we had to get up and get our own water, our own refills for drinks and after an hour of waiting for our appetizers asking why the table next to us got there's after being there 30 minutes. Our waitress responded to a helper saying "another table got up & left!" she said "good!" We were there at 3pm this isn't a lunch or dinner time. They were busy but no one was being helped. If the food is over an hour wait, no problem just say so & keep filling drinks & be friendly. our waitress the entire time was parked behind the counter doing nothing. she was the blond older lady. There was a waiter on the other side doing everything & his side was served very well (still a long wait time) & he was friendly. We got drinks fairly quickly but then had to wait for another 20 minutes to have our food order taken. We waited for over an hour to receive our food. At the time of ordering, we mentioned that we would be sharing the rack of ribs, but the server (not overly friendly on her best moment) forgot to bring extra plates. We asked for them but ended up having to go get them ourselves because she never returned. The ribs were tasty but barely lukewarm. The rest of the food was ok, but also quite cool. The cornbread was HORRIBLE!! It was so hard and dry that I never even got to the taste before I spit it out.
