Not sweet sweet tea. No idea what the " hushpuppies" are supposed to be. Ham tasted like straight salt Ribs were anemic and overdone Baked beans were cold and really lack luster Fried shrimp was clearly frozen pre made. To be fair, Pigman's was our second choice. We had called Sooey's for a take out order and they told us to call back (they were busy). I think not! We called Pigman's, they were more than happy to take our order. We had a large group (12), ordered various items for take out. It was ready to go when we got there. Good stuff. Pigmans isn't the best bbq I've had of all time but still a great bbq joint. The ribs were very tender and the tangy sauce I got with it was fantastic. The sides I got (hushpuppies baked beans and cole slaw) were all very strong. With that being said the waitresses were pretty ugly :(, but its a BBQ joint and that can be expected. This was some really good barbeque. I was surprised such a good place was open during the offseason, but based on the crowd of people inside, it looks like they can make money all year round. A couple of my buddies and I went to get takeout here during our annual New Years fiesta on the OBX. The lady working the counter was friendly even though I'm sure she was not cised to be at work on New Years Eve. They were ramping down for a day off, so they were out of the quart sized servings of pork BBQ, which was a shame, but a few jumbo sandwiches really were good enough. The sauce and pull were both very good for an NC BBQ, which incidentally I like much better than Memphis style. The baked beans and corn bread were excellent. The potato salad was good, but a little too tangy for my preference. All in all, this is a great place. I'm sure it's swamped in the summer, but if you can get in there when things are a little more relaxed, you won't regret it. read more

Very cheap. Good portion sizes. Quick. If you want solid BBQ that's worth the price and serves fast, this is your stop. This is not award-winning blow-you-away BBQ....but.... it is the best BBQ I've ever gotten for under $10. When you go here, get a pork-dish of some kind. It is they're specialty. Hush puppies are excellent, make sure to apply generous amounts of honey-butter, which they provide. On any Summer weekend night you will be waiting 30 min - an hour at any other restaurant just to get a seat. My family's favorite BBQ restaurant in the Outer Banks! We went there because we heard the owners were VMI grads and my son is a current cadet. We will be back because the BBQ is delicious! NC BBQ is known for being vinegary and not very saucy. What we loved about Pigman's is the sauce has some NC flavor, but it is still saucy! Holy smokes this place is sooo good! Saw it on our way to the Wright Bros. Museum at Kitty Hawk. Anything with a name like Pigman's has got to be tried. We go inside and are immediately stunned at the reasonable prices. And the variety of selections available. So we all order and are delighted at the generous portions served. We enjoy coming to Pigman's for a barbecue fix when we visit the OBX. If you dine in, the interior decor is pretty fun, both a combination of pig themed items and fish themed items (because you are on a barrier island, after all). The food is good -- I like the pulled pork sandwich myself. The regular size is plenty, but if you have come with a good appetite, the jumbo could be the way to go. Their sauce is vinegary but also thicker like ketchup and with some tomato base. So kind of like a combo of eastern and western if you will. The hushpuppies are tasty, the fries are fine. We used to love their sweet potato fries, which were more like deep fried sweet potato sticks. Now they're more traditional sweet potato fries (like a cut up sweet potato fried). They are still tasty but we sincerely wish they'd change them back. We liked the old ones -- they were unique and very good. The slaw is good and I appreciate that you get a little cup full with your sandwich if you are a slaw-on-sandwich type person (which I am). One other note, if you're staying for awhile, take a tub of the pulled pork home and put it in the fridge. Something about cold Pigman's straight from the fridge is so sinfully delicious... it's the best midnight snack! read more

I know the Outer Banks isn't a BBQ haven compared to other parts of the state, but I had to give Pigman's BBQ a try while I was down there because I do love me some BBQ. Luckily for me, I am a fan of vinegar-based BBQ sauce. And let me tell you, their signature BBQ sauce is VINEGARY! If that's not your style, Pigman's might not necessarily be the place for you. But personally, I couldn't get enough of it. As a matter of fact, I had to keep myself from sneaking off with one of the bottles of sauce that sit at each of the tables. Okay, I'm not a BBQ expert (although a lot of Texans think they are), I just know what I like. Sadly for my attempts to compare NC to TX BBQ, that means no brisket since I can't abide "pulled" meat. I tend to think of that as premasticated meat. Just a personal problem I'm sure. So we tried the pork ribs. Which we always like. Got a full rack. I finished my half. My wife did not. So if you're a big eater that should give you a reason to bring a light eating partner with you. They were very tender and tasty. Even without additional sauce. But we tried the sauces anyway. The hot sauce was spicy but not overpowering. Some places seem to think the higher the heat rating the better. Not Pigman's. It was just right. The Cock sauce was an interesting surprise. Sweet and tangy with a flavor that eluded me. Nutmeg maybe? It was good, regardless. Added an interesting dimension to the ribs. All in all, a delightfully filling meal to carry us through the rest of our day as we walk another beach before taking in the Lost Colony of Roanoke this evening. Almost rated this higher just because its been so long since I've had Eastern Carolina BBQ. The pork was decent, didn't even need sauce, but I sampled both the regular and hot...both were what I was hoping for...vinegar based, no tomato, not sweet, though the containers can trick you into thinking its a supermarket sweet kind. I prefer my pig to be pulled and chopped, and while this was shredded, it was very tasty and not greasy. The sides bring my score from a 4 to a 3 as they're nothing to brag about...beans and coleslaw were pedestrian, at best. The roll for my bbq was stale, as was the bun for my daughters not so great hot dog..fries were good. Liked the atmosphere and the staff is nice...classic rock on the sound system is cool, too. read more
