Food and service was ok. Local Burger place. They were out of stock on their Pepsi products. We ordered chicken sandwich, burgers and fries and we all felt they were just ok.

A great location and easy to miss on the main OBX road, fantastic guest service, seems to be a local hangout. Good place to have a beer & watch a game. Had the Irish Burger and hot dog, good sauce flavor on both. Asked for medium well & was well, the branded bun looks burnt but is not, very good. Fries are great. I would come back to have a drink & watch a game. 4 stars for the service!

McGrath's moved into the location formerly occupied by Darrel's 2 a couple of years ago. We kind of limit our burger consumption to Art's Place in Kitty Hawk when we are here, but decided to try McGrath's since we were down in Nags Head. We had a couple of very good burgers. Ms T had the Irish Whisky Burger (no onion, of course) and I had the Jalapeno Heat Burger. She does not like rare or even pinkness in her beef, and the cook got it right without drying it out. Mine ordered medium, was perfect. It was super juicy and tender. They do not use compressed hockey puck patties here. I loved that they grilled fresh jalapenos for these, along with the onions. Our only wish was for some salt and pepper on the beef. The burgers are on a par with Art's but are a totally different treatment in terms of toppings. At Art's you get more North Carolina styles like Pimento Cheese or Chili. At McGraths it is a different palette, so pick your place. McGrath's may be easier to find a table. You will get a great burger at either place. We wanted to substitute slaw for the fries, but learned it has onion. We are eating raw-onion-free so stuck with the steak fries. They were also good; in fact they were better than we have been getting recently. I am always a little leery of steak fries, since they are larger and often don't get cooked right and can be grainy. These were creamy smooth and very good. I have read reviews about poor or rude service at McGraths. That was certainly not our experience. Our server could not have been nicer or more attentive. This was a very enjoyable meal. We don't eat a lot of these half-pound burgers (in fact, we each brought half home) but when we do, I can see splitting the enjoyment between Art's and McGrath's. McGrath's is apparently a sister of another location in Chesapeake.

Frank was our server and she did an outstanding job. such a friendly and professional person! The burgers were amazing, made with grass-fed beef patties and served with homemade French fries. Totally worth the visit! A hidden gem in the city that doesn't get too crowded on summer weekends

We have been here twice and both times our food was fantastic. This time we tried the Reuben peirogies that were AMAZING!! If you like corned beef and sauerkraut, you've got to try these!! My husband had a Buffalo Irishman chicken sando with garlic Parmesan fried and I had the Irish burger. Fries are super tasty and the fry dip is delicious. The owner was our server and he was very friendly and really seemed like he enjoyed that we liked the food. We will be back the next time we want a good burger!

The service is pretty slow but the French fries are awesome! I always feel like they don't have time for me but the fries are worth it.

Ordered a burger to go. I work nearby. The bun was stale and fell apart. Not much flavor. Can't decide if I will try it again.

I woke up...and had a delicious time! The reviews here tell you how great this place is, and well...believe them! I thought for sure it would be over-hyped and not live up to what people write and say, but I will admit to being wrong. First, our server, Krickett, was agreed upon (by my partner and I) to be the best server we have ever had. She was friendly, outgoing, had good recommendations, and an all-around joy. Second, the food! Wow! My partner had a salad...simple enough, right? But no, she was amazed by it. And she is a vegetarian, so she has had a lot of salads over the years. This one blew her away. I had the grilled chicken sandwich. Was it life-changing? No. But it was way better than what a grilled chicken sandwich normally is. It was tender, juicy, with just the right seasoning. I would be a criminal if I didn't mention the bruschetta...get it with the burrata...it is worth it! The crispy bread with balsamic drizzle is good enough with the diced tomato mix, but the cheese gives it a new level. And, I hope you saved room for dessert, because the key lime pie was a mouth explosion.

The restaurant has two distinct dining areas: the front section is first-come first-served bar seating that offers the full menu. The back section, which would be ideal for families, holds about 30 tables, mostly booths, with the hostess stand. We chose to sit at the bar and had a great experience. We started with bruschetta topped with burrata cheese. I ordered the angel hair pasta in a white garlic butter, cream sauce with marinated chicken and grilled vegetables. My husband ordered the special hamburger with Swiss cheese bacon, spinach and mayo with a side of fries. We ended with slices of the key lime pie that didn't disappoint! The food, service, staff and environment were exceptional! We overheard the Server mention that veterans receive complementary meals on Veterans Day, which speaks volumes about how this restaurant supports those who have served. If you are in the Outer Banks- whether you're staying in Kill Devil Hills or nearby- this restaurant is worth the drive and all the hype!

I've been here with a party of 12 before, and we definitely waited a while, but I was impressed that they were able to accommodate a group that size. This time, I was with a party of two and we were seated pretty quickly. My one complaint about the wait system is that they announce when your table is ready, but if you're out of earshot, you'll miss it. It would be nice if they used a text, call, or buzzer system so you could walk down to the beach while you wait. Part of the pier seating is covered, but the farther you go out, the more exposed you are. We were seated near the end, so it was hot in the direct sun and very windy. But that comes with the territory, and the views make it worth it. There are also plenty of birds hoping you'll share your fries with them, which is both expected and pretty funny. We each ordered a Pain Killer. It was good at first, but it quickly became watered down, and I didn't think it was worth $10. We also got the nachos, but the price adds up quickly once you start adding toppings. Most of the menu is very à la carte. The prices seem reasonable at first, but sides and toppings can add up fast. The burgers don't come with fries, for example. We both got the West Coast Burger. It was good, but nothing particularly memorable. Service was attentive and generally friendly. Overall, Fish Heads is one of the better dining options in the area. The pier setting and views really make the experience unique. I enjoy coming here and will likely be back.
