My 3.5-year old was overdue for a haircut, and she had been asking for a short hairstyle. I can do a short trim at home, but I definitely do not have the skills for a full cut and style. I did some research and asked around. Pigtails and Crewcuts was recommended by a couple of moms in a local group, plus it was closer than the other keiki salon recommendations I had received (one was in Waipahu and the other was in Kapolei). I was warned in advance that P&C is pricey. Given the high prices, I was surprised that haircuts didn't include a shampoo and wash; those will cost you extra. Other than that, I was very happy with the service. The online appointment system is easy. We were in and out of the salon in 20 minutes. My daughter and I are both very happy with the cut. The salon itself is very kid-friendly. Let's just say they know their audience! I would definitely return for another cut. They even do haircuts for moms staring in the $40 range. I haven't been able to find a haircut for myself that cost under $60 even for a simple trim. I almost wish they offer a family package so we can get a volume discount! read more

My son's 1st haircut appointment was nothing short of amazing! Highly recommend this place and HUGE shoutout to our barber, Daniel. We felt welcomed by the sweet lady who was working at the front desk on 6/6/26 at 2pm (sorry I didn't get her name). They're all professional and experienced, and they have everything you'll need for your little one. We will definitely be coming back. This was our third time here. The first time we came for my son's first haircut and the lady we had didn't do a very good job. So we ended up finding a different kids haircut place that we've been going for my son's haircut every 3 months. However, she was booked up and I needed a last minute appointment before picture taking; so we tried again at pigtails and crew cuts and we got Henriette. Booking the haircut was sooo easy and convenient. You can do it online vs having to call or text which I loved. 10/10 Parking is also easy and plentiful in the shopping center 10/10 We got to the haircut with henriette and I was nervous tbh because of our first experience here. But Henriette quickly won our hearts. My son loved her! She's so so kind and great with kids. My son has sensory issues where he cannot stand the feeling of hair on himself and he hates the water and gel. I didn't even have to tell her, she already picked up on it and she was dusting him off frequently and blowing the blow dryer to make sure all the hair was off throughout the entire haircut. My son's haircut was also so fast compared to our previous lady. So we decided to book Henriette again Today for my son's haircut and once again she did not disappoint. My son loved her and said she's so nice. She even made sure his animal crackers were filled, sang a song to him when she did the hair wetting part, dusted and blow dried him often throughout the hair cut, told him what she was going to do next so he was prepared, and was so so patient with him. The hair cut was also pretty quick today too. 1000000/10 The kids also get to pick a treasure from the box and a lollipop. The price is higher than other kids hair cut places (by about $5-7) -- and full transparency I paid about $41 and some change and tipped $1-- but to me it's worth it to have someone as attentive and caring as Henriette. My friend brought her little 2 year old grandson to get an overdue haircut at Pigtails & Crewcuts. We were fortunate to get a walk in appointment. It has a kid friendly environment and little toys to play with. Once we had him in the airplane chair, her grandson was not having it and got a little anxious until Daniel stepped in. I don't know how Daniel does it but he was able to distract the little one enough to do an amazing haircut. I always say you need to leave it to the experts! Took my daughter here to get her haircut. Honestly I'm disappointed from the lack of basic customer service skills and the price of a child's 10 minute haircut. When we arrived the receptionist didn't greet us and seemed preoccupied with something. When she acknowledged us there was no warm welcome or thanking us for waiting. Our hairdresser didn't introduce herself, nor made an effort to make my daughter feel comfortable. She was perfunctory. I took my child here for their first haircut and it was such a fun experience. We were running late due to traffic and were told we would be put on the walk-in list despite having a reservation, so make sure to be on time! Thankfully, our reservation was honored despite our tardiness. My child had so much fun picking a 'seat'. They have a choice between different types of cars and a Hawaiian Airlines airplane. Have been here with my friend's kiddos and this was the first time bringing my kid for their first haircut! Stylist was very kind and patient. My kiddo got to pick their seat as well as choose what was played on the TV. The staff was very flexible in letting my youngest go back and forth between the waiting area and our station. It did start to get very busy mid appointment so I tried to keep the herd together. At the end, the stylist surprised my babe with ribbons in their hair which was such a special touch. We ended the experience with a lollipop. Later, my kiddo did ask why there wasn't a visit to the toy chest as advertised. We didn't ask at checkout as we figured it wasn't available that day. I tried doing this last minute but it's best to get a reservation. Arrived 15 min early for our 12 pm appointment on a Saturday. The woman who cut my daughters hair, for her first haircut, was really sweet. She took her time, asked how much I wanted to cut, and even did two braids with ribbon at the end. She gave both of my daughters a lollipop. Took about 20 min for the entire haircut. It was a busy time and there were a lot of kids there when we go inside. By the time we left there were only 4 kids getting their hair cuts. Parking is a open lot shared with many other businesses. I have heard of this place previously & wanted to give it a chance. I'm not sure how the other momma bears feel but after trying to trim her own bangs while she slept I realized that it was a lot more difficult than it looked especially with an almost toddler daughter who whether asleep or awake doesn't sit still. I knew at that point that I needed a professional. They had a pretty open availability which gave us the flexibility to schedule an appt on our time and we were so grateful for that. Every family should come here for their first haircut experience for their baby. Staff was friendly and very professional indeed. It's a fun environment for the kids with a toy shop, small play area and of course the coolest cars in town to ride in while your littles get their new cuts! They give a prize and lolipop at the end and it was overall a fun experience for our family. Since it only happens once, I recommend the first haircut package which is another$6 but comes in the form of a card and they save a lock of their hair with a personalized picture of them. One thing to note is it is a bit pricey at a little over $30 but I completely understand that baby haircuts are not easy at all. Very satisfied indeed! This review is solely for the customer service I experienced with the receptionist. My son is 5 years old with some unique needs. For one, he hates haircuts but I thought he would be ok going to this place. I went in and let the receptionist know that my son may cry a lot. She was very accommodating to my son's needs. She told me that there would be a wait and I said that was ok. I noticed they cleared the shop so that it would be clear of other children when my son was going to get his haircut. This was my son's first haircut, so it was a big deal for us. I searched for a child friendly place for months and this is the only one like it on the island. I understand and appreciate the extra Covid precautions this business takes to ensure their tiny clients are safe BUT I didn't really care for the 15-min prior to appt physical check in. Our appt was at 12 so we checked in at 1145 and had to wait around outside for 15 mins plus another 10 mins because they were running behind. Waiting outside with a 5 yo boy for half an hour wasn't fun--especially if he is expected to sit still for another half hour for a haircut. When we finally got in we were lucky that all the seats were open so he got to choose. We went with the cool car, the other options were a fire truck, taxi, airplane and train. My son Leo is only 5 yo but he's tall for his age. The other kids there were around 2 to 3 yo--they were accommodated with entertainment immediately to help them sit still with things like TV & toys. Leo was not given anything to help him sit still, he was just expected to sit there patiently and was continuously reminded. He was not given any toy to play with or any show to watch. I bought the first haircut package which came with a lock of hair and picture. I didn't notice til I got home but my son was bummed because the pic they took of him didn't even include the cool car chair he sat in, they cut it out of the pic--which was one of the main reasons we went to this place, my kid is a car fanatic. Anyways, I was disappointed with the lack of service given to my son, the waiting around (we should be able to check in online instead of waiting outside) and the photo of his haircut. I recommend this place because it's the only place like it on the island and the chairs are cool. My son is currently 20 months old, and today was his 5th haircut! My husband and I have been bringing him here since his very first haircut, and it is time now for me to send in my review of awesomeness. We have been extremely happy with every single haircut he's gotten so far. The stylists do such an amazing job, I trust all of them to do a great job, and keep my son safe in the process. All of the stylist we've seen are very professional, and great with all the children. I give them props for the job they do, especially with little children turning, and constantly moving, and crying, and screaming. Each of the chairs inside is in the shape of a different type of transportation that the kiddies get to sit in. It ranges from Taxis, airplanes, trains, and firetrucks. It's exciting when the kiddies get to choose what they want to sit in for their haircut, and it makes for great photos too! Of course now, they are also taking extra precautions due to covid. They have everyone wait outside until they are called in. Appointments are preferred. Each child can have one adult with them, and the adults need to wear masks. They have everyone fill out a questionnaire about your exposure to Covid, they take temperatures of everyone entering the establishment, and sanitize all the the adults hands. This used to be a solid place to take the kids to get their haircut. The stylists are still great and patient with the kids. The receptionist before covid and after are horribly unorganized and lack customer service. I brushed off the rudeness before covid as them being overwhelmed and stressed and not enough help at the front to figure out appointments and cashing out when they are busy so the rudeness from the receptionist I overlooked. But when they re opened after covid and that same receptionists was rudely telling customers that they almost gave away their apt bc they ALMOST didn't make the 15minute pre check in window ( they made it by 6min) as well as myself being told to book and apt online because booking for 2 kids was too time consuming for them to do in person..I no longer overlooked the incompetence of their front staff. So I did book online and then was called the day before my apt asking me if I can move it to an hr later because they didn't realize that the online system over booked them the same time I said no bc my son had a photoshoot that day and moving it back an hour would not allow time to arrive at the photoshoot at call time. So after some back n forth they said they would SQUEEZE ME in and do their best to get me out on time. I'm sorry SQUEEZE me in to an apt I already made!!! My middle son is autistic and we have tried regular barber shops and other children haircut places but this is closest to home and the stylist are patient with his needs..where the Barbar shop environment was not conducive to his sensory sensitivity..so we continue to bring our boys here for haircuts Well today..after booking an apt online on their app and getting confirmation for it .my husband arrives to them saying they don't see our apts..so I sent a screen shot of the confirmation and you can read the text my husband sent me.. They took a walk in when my kids where scheduled If the app is not up to standards to update your system in real time My suggestion to you is to hire another receptionist and go back to phone Apts and an apt book!. My kids hair grows so fast and is so thick they both need cuts 1x a month..so if anyone has a better alternative to this place but on westside or central oahu pleeeese message me.. I was excited to bring my son here for his first haircut. We walked in and received no acknowledgment from the receptionist. Finally, another stylist walked in and let us know we could pick any chair. I told the stylist up front that I wasn't familiar with boy haircuts and just wanted his neck and ears cleaned up and then showed a picture of an idea of what I wanted the front to look like. She let me know that a 3 guard was an average cut for a little boy but she didn't tell me how high she was going to take it. Again, I had only asked for his neckline cleaned up so I thought she meant she would use a 3 guard to do so instead of shears. Well my little guy wasn't having the clippers and once she started with the first pass up past his ear I knew that we somewhat needed to finish what we started since it clearly wasn't what I had asked for and we couldn't go back. She eventually finished, didn't offer to dust the hair from his face and we got up to pay. When I got to the car, I saw that she had cut his neck. I was stunned. She hadn't said anything to me about it. No wonder, besides the new experience, that he was so upset. I called and was able to get the owner's phone number. He returned my voicemail within an hour. He didn't start with an apology. Simply wanted to know the stylist's name (which I didn't know because she didn't introduce herself) and if he was moving (yes, first haircut, didn't go well). Some things that may have helped: -he's used to sitting in a high chair for a long time -he's used to us touching his hair -I brought lots of snacks and videos for him to watch -he was familiar with a clippers from watching his daddy cut hair at home -he loves cars so he was playing with the steering wheel most of the time *Might be a good idea to do some of these things to prepare for your child's first haircut! Henriette took care of my son and she was so quick! She made sure the cut was the way we wanted and asked us questions/ walked us through what she was doing. I showed her a picture in the beginning and she did the exact cut. My son was done in 15 minutes! This place is going downhill fast. I would like to preface this with the fact that I have been a super loyal customer here since my son got his first haircut here 4 years ago. I fell in love with this place during our first experience. However, the past two visits have left a terrible impression. I want to make it clear, Johnalynn, who cuts my sons hair, is AMAZING. She is talented, fast, kind and I've never had any issue with any of her cuts. My son is always happy to get his hair cut by her. She will always get 5 stars from me. Since Pig Tails & Crewcuts have reopened after covid, the experience there is just so awful. You walk up, scan a QR code fill out a safety screen, then wait. That process is fine as we've all been accustomed to the QR code world since COVID but typically at some point you are greeted after checking in.. but nope. Not here. I promise you won't catch COVID by saying hello and being polite. Kindness goes a long way and being acknowledged is very important for business. I also want to mention, that I drive all the way from Hawaii Kai every time we get my sons haircut, so you know we are dedicated to this place to make that drive. On Tuesday 10/5/2021, I attempted to call several times to make an appointment, however nobody would answer my phone call. I wasn't sure if perhaps, their phones were down, so I emailed them requesting an appointment. I got a response immediately saying someone would call me soon- which was awesome. When the women called me back she said "I heard you've been trying to call here." Maybe it wasn't intentional but that was so rude... perhaps a "sorry we missed your call" would have been a better option to use. So I made my appt for Sunday 10/10 at 2:30pm. About 20 mins later I got a second call from someone who was also "returning my call" but I let her know I had already been contacted. Sunday comes around and we head out to make the drive over, and randomly there is Sunday town traffic. I was freaking out because I absolutely hate being late and I do not like to be a burden and waste anyone's time. When I arrived it was exactly 2:30pm, my appointment time, so I felt a bit relieved that I made it just on time. Also, johnalynn was still working on the child before my son's appt, so I wouldn't be making anyone late- Thank God! I proceeded to scan the QR code and checked in, it mentioned online when checking in, if you do not arrive 15mins early to your appointment, you lose your appt slot and are considered a walk-in. I was NOT told this on the phone when making my appointment. I was only told that only 1 parent and the child would be let in, which I was already aware of. After I checked in online nobody said anything to me.. 15 mins passed standing outside... silence. Johnalynn still working on the appointment before us, so had I checked in 15 mins early, I would have been waiting 30 mins without so much of a hello from anyone at this business. I stood outside anxiously awaiting whether or not we would be skipped over because I arrived to my appointment on time, not early. Finally someone came out with a thermometer and hand sani and called another little boys name name, no acknowledgement again. The girl working the front, Lexi started walking in and I stopped her to ask if we were going to be able to be seen at our appt time. She looked at me and said, well since the 3 o'clock appt checked in on time and you were late, we're going to take the 3pm appt before you. I'm sorry.. but what? I arrived to my 2:30 appt at 2:30.. but the 3pm appt will skip me because she checked in at 2:45? Not to mention, they are still working on the 2pm appt at 2:45! I just can't even. The way she looked at me was like I am the biggest idiot in the world for not checking earlier. So here we are.. waiting for over an hour now for an appt I was on time to.. not late! And the cherry on top of the whole thing is... after waiting for 1 hour, my 5 year old needed to go bathroom. I asked them if I could take my son to use the bathroom and Lexi said "I'm sorry, it's closed. You can go to McDonald's." How impolite to send your patrons away after waiting over an hour for your services. My son was finally seated at 3:45pm, a full hour and fifteen minutes after my scheduled appt. I definitely need to find somewhere new. There is another kids hair cut place in aiea called Little Kuts Hawaii that have the cute seats. I'm going to give a try next appt. Came here for my sons very first haircut because I heard they were kid friendly. once i walked in I already loved it only because they had toys, snacks and their seats for the kids are cars. soo goooood! everything was about the kids. ohhhh and we were the only ones there because we went early so that was a plus. soooo my child did not want to sit in the car, instead he decides to sit on daddy which was fine by me lol he was crying during his haircut but the worker was so patient with him and tried to make him feel happy. i love that! i would def go again :) they even give your children a toy after they get their hair cut. oh! and they had a special if its your childs first hair cut :) you get their picture taken anda piece of their hair read more
