Well, that is ... until I accidentally stumbled across Azalea's Pilates Studio! While at the lights at Artesia & Inglewood, I saw the big sign for Azalea's Pilates. Some force of energy was telling me to go and check it out. And boy, I am so happy I did! There are only x3 reformers, this is to ensure each client gets the individual attention a person needs in a class. Azalea teaches with absolute precision and care. Her voice is soothing and nurturing. If you make a mistake, she gently corrects you so that you do not feel intimated or overwhelmed. Azalea is very aware of your bodies idiosyncrasies. I was totally blown away when she mentioned my anterior pelvic tilt to the right! No yoga teacher, no gym trainer, no kickboxing instructor cared or ever noticed I have this challenge in my body! She likes the instructors and I appreciate them as they let me know how she is doing or if the have any questions about her well being since wasn't improving much they suggested a physical therapist. I was so intrigued with the exercises so I finally joined, and I love it. Feeling like a evangelist, everyone should be doing it. I am finally starting Reformer 1 and feel the excitement of finally starting to accomplish some more difficult moves for me. I have a long way to go, but I am in the right spot to grow and not get hurt by over doing it.

The studio offers classes for everyone, from beginner to advanced, and does a great job blending classical Pilates with more contemporary movements. The workouts are always varied, so the classes stay fresh and engaging. What makes this studio even more special is the welcoming sense of community. The instructors know everyone by name, and the studio regularly shows its appreciation for members with occasional holiday treats, refreshments, and vendor events. Emily has helped me to remove pain from everyday life, build strength and have a more flexible and balanced body. A little background: I'm new to the area, and I did lagree for about 1.5 years when I lived near Arcadia. The machines there were the newer Megaformers, with black, white, and grey springs. At MDR, since they've been established longer in the South Bay, the machines are older generation, with red, orange, and yellow springs. They also have various footholds and handlebars set at different heights. Since I trained on the newer models, I'm still getting used to these older ones at MDR, and it can be a bit confusing. Sometimes I catch myself looking for footholds, or reaching for the wrong handlebar since I'm used to just one bar. That said, lagree is a fantastic full-body workout that targets your abs, legs, arms, and glutes. I still get a challenging, sweaty session every time, it is brutal in the best way. The instructors are helpful, and I don't mind the hands-on adjustments since that's how you actually learn and improve. I'm just not ready to commit to a long-term membership yet, given the South Bay pricing. Parking is plentiful, in the large shared lot with CVS and Bristol Farms.

Erin and Gina are the owners of the studio and we love the atmosphere they have created. You can't go wrong taking classes here with any of the instructors they are all great. I formerly thought anything Pilates or yoga related was boring but now I'm hooked!
