I will start by saying I didn't have any issues (save one) with the staff's attitude. they are friendly and welcoming. the range is dynamic with a bunch of different bays great for various close range drills and competition. They are one of the very few ranges that allow machine guns & FRT's for members, and don't lose their heads if you're running a sling or holster. Unfortunately that is all I can say well about this place. Its unique nature and promised dynamic shooting capability is completely ruined by incompetent management, inconsistent rules, lack of common sense with many of the RO's, and a complete lack of signage and member notification for hour changes and the such, as well as poor customer/member service and compensation when THEY screw up. For instance, they are inconsistent on what ranges allow steel targets. After asking three different people which ranges you can/can't use them, I still don't know because i got three different answers. my first time there after buying my membership I got assigned a range, asked for the key to the steel target connex box, set up, and shot for two hours having no one say anything. Next trip a couple weeks later, I claimed the same one, and after letting me waste 20 min setting up, they choose to come tell me I can't use steel on that range, wasting my time. On the 50yd range to the right of the 100yd, I have witnessed people set up steel at the 10yd minimum to the tables no problem. I take over and shoot at the LITERAL SAME plate rack which was left set up and oh no no, I have to move it to the 40yd line so i'm not bouncing bullet fragments into the adjacent range. A side note on the steel, they talked it up big how as a member you're provided steel targets, but these things are ancient and jank. they all look like they've seen mag dumps of M855 and are unsafe, I started bringing my own shortly into it. So much for that perk. Next and a way bigger issue, there are no waiting lists for ranges. You go on a weekend or a holiday? You better get there an hour before first shots or be ready to wait with your thumb up your ass. Because if you dare settle for the public range while you wait, they'll give them out like candy to their longer standing members KNOWING you want one (Yes I'm a paying member). Absolutely ludicrous oversight that cost us entire range days. I'll just make this last point because the rest are just compounding annoyances you'll find many places. I would also like to note that I have been nothing but patient and accommodating when these issues arose. But the final straw was yesterday, when my cousins & I went for a zero & function check day. Mind you when I studied their website back in November there was no mention of seasonal hour changes, there was no email headlined to members about hour changes, and there is ZERO signage at the range itself denoting current hours of operation. Their last checkin time changed from 4pm to 1:30, and last shot from 4:30pm to 2pm. This was unbeknownst to us, which wouldn't have been anything more than just another inconvenience IF at the time of check in (which was basically at 1:30) they would have rubbed two brain cells together and maybe asked if we knew they were almost closing. Nope, they took my cousins $40, WATCHED us unpack a ton of guns & gear obviously not intended for mere minutes of shooting, set up targets, start shooting for perhaps 10 min, then come over and tell us last shots. We were furious. and after explaining our situation, and highlighting THEIR FAILURE to properly post their hours fukn anywhere, they refused reimbursement for range fees, not even in the form of passes. At this point, I feel like I was misled by the website and range staff about the capabilities and benefits of the facility to get my money out of me for a membership. And whenever I bring up a legitimate grievance to them, they pretty much tell you to piss off. I'm done with this garbage range. I will be warning my customers away, and I suggest you steer clear until they can get their crap together. read more

Everything went extremely well. SAFETY SAFETY and MORE SAFETY is the Order of the Day. This Range is a tightly run outfit. I am from out of town and decided to join this PPC as opposed to being a walk-in daily pay. The price is well worth it. These are some phenomenal ranges, at least a dozen that are available to members. The professionals that work there are just that, professionals. They are very pleasant and helpful. Did my homework by checking yelp and their own website about rules and regulations. What's acceptable and what's not. No where does it say no shotguns. I wanted to shoot my new tactical shotgun and was very excited to line it up and test fire it. Never use a weapon you haven't tested yourself lol. I drove all the way out there and went to the check in and was informed that they do not allow shotguns because it tears up their target stands. First, their target stands are a small metal base that holds 1 x 1s with a thin sheet of plywood or cardboard. While I was talking with the guy people are shooting high power rifles and hand guns. One bullet from any of those guns would take down a 1x1. I hate when first you don't specify what you can shoot there and then you give me a very weak excuse why you don't want me to shoot there. Second, the road coming in will tear your car up more than me tearing up your stand and on top of that you are charging 20 dollars a head to simply shoot. Ok. Good logic. The range itself is not bad, but had I known how much members are put on the back burner in terms of member range availability I never would have purchased a membership. The main days that I was able to go were Saturdays and almost every Saturday the range gave priority to competitions so I found myself using the general ranges, completely voiding any member benefits. read more

I'm an (very), old NRA guy. First time at the Pima range. Fellow in office was pleasant easy to talk with. He explained the costs, etc. Went down to pistol range. Only one guy there and he was most helpful in setting up and getting going. After firing my pistol, I took a rim fire long gun to the rifle range. There was one fellow keeping an eye on things. Very, very military in authority. Guess he just didn't understand that you don't talk to civilians the same as a drill sergeant talking to cadets. And that paying customers, especially new people, EXPECT some friendly help, not just policing. Civilians resent that kind of behavior and might push back. I didn't see that attitude towards the old timers there. Yet, I understand where he is coming from. It's hard to change years of military atmosphere to a civilian environment. Yes, safety is first, but it can be done better in a helpful friendly environment, appropriate to a general public setting. That's just good business. In this day and age, service is paramount. And it must be done in a way that will bring people back. The NRA needs to know the results of the grants invested in ranges like Pima. They want new shooters to be warmly welcomed, creating an attractive atmosphere, pulling back repeat customers. That is the only way the club will grow, creating a new crop of shooters, supporting the NRA. That is it is all about. Gaining support, educating people, in a safe and socially comfortable attractive environment, not just punching holes in paper. Does Pima needs some readjustment of it's sights??? If my wife and I were to become members, it would only be after Pima leadership at least seriously addresses how things could be improved, making new customers feel more welcomed. this was my first time shooting guns, but it was SO MUCH FUN!!! the guy that ran the range the day we were there happened to be from NJ, so we chatted about where we lived, Wawa, and other Jersey things. He was super nice and walked us through the rules and even told me not to be nervous, that noone would laugh at me for being a beginner. The actual range is well kept and clean, lots of seating and places to put your giant bags of gun paraphernalia. We brought these awesome zombie targets (hey, you need to be prepared!), and had everyone at the range asking where we got them and saying they loved them! Only downfall was a group of macho dudes who refused to stop shooting so that we could clear the range and go get our last target to leave. they were too busy readjusting their scopes every two seconds to notice us standing there patiently waiting for the range to go cold. but, that has nothing to do with the actual range itself, just the douchebags that you can find anywhere. and it turned out i was a natural :) headshots on the zombie target from 100 yards with a .22 pistol and rifle, and a .40 pistol! i can't want to go back and kill some more brain-munchers :P read more

I have been a member of Pima Pistol Club for about 3 years. My visits to the range and interactions with the Range Officers have in the past been productive and professional. That all changed on May 7 when I visited the range with a friend for target practice. When we checked in I was asked what we were going to shoot. I replied that we were planing to shoot AR's and Pistols. We were told to use the range behind the check in building. We parked and began to set up. I was loading a clip for my Ruger 57 when the Range Officer came over and told me I could not shoot the pistol here. I asked why and he replied that this was a rifle range and no pistols allowed. I stated that the rules must have changed because I have shot pistols here in the past but I would comply. he seemed very angry and stormed away. My friend and I put our pistols away in the cases and began setting up to shoot our AR's. The target stands were beside the tables and we were taping up targets when the Range Officer ran over and dragged the target stand out into the dirt and shouted at us that we could not set up targets next to the tables. He was very angry at us. I then loaded up my AR and set it on the table with the muzzle clearly pointed down range. The Range Officer ran over toward me with a pistol shoved half way down the front of his pants (NOT HOLSTERED), grabbed my AR, Striped out the magazine, unloaded the live round and the slammed it in my case while shouting at me I TOLD YOU TO HAVE THE MUZZLE POINTED DOWN RANGE (IT WAS). He then told me and my friend to leave. I checked out, tossed my range ID on the counter and told him that I would never come back. I am 78 years old and been around guns my whole life, in the military and as a Federal Agent. I have never seen such disrespect and conduct. Although we never fired a shot, they refused to return my friends $20.00. What right does he have to grab my equipment anyway. A week and a half later I received a letter from the president of the board of directors stating that they have reviewed the incident and suspending me for a year. Terrible! Way overpriced. They treat you like a child and require you to watch safety videos and buy range flags regardless of your experience level. You can't draw from the holster even if you are military or law enforcement. Also they don't allow any service dogs period on-site even though mine has been to just about every gun range in Southern Arizona. They even said I can't keep him in my car with the AC on. A business can't legally refuse business to a service dog unless the dog has behavioral issues which he doesn't. I left California to get away from this Mickey Mouse BS. read more

Pima Pistol is definitely a good range to go to, especially if you live on the North end of Tucson. The daily prices are reasonable and so are the annual membership fees. They have 3 ranges you can use as action bays as an annual member if no one else is around. The facilities are nice too (clean restroom, good equipment). They hold lots of matches here as well. Andrew from VuurwapenBlog and the guys from ForgottenWeapons.com shoot here as well. Definitely a great customer base as well. Never witnessed any douchebaggery while shooting here. They're also NFA-friendly and didn't give me any grief when I was shooting suppressed. Very mature range that expects mature behavior from its patrons. read more

A relatively small range that can be a bit of a challenge to find. Staffed mostly by volunteers it is not a particularly friendly place, especially for newcomers. Numerous persnickety rules that don't seem to make much sense, especially the "cold range" rule that requires that everyone, except cops in uniform, must unload their (otherwise legally carried) handguns before registering or proceeding to the shooting areas. The use of rifles and pistols is separated into two physically separate and distinct ranges. If you are shooting rifles you are not allowed to use, or even have a loaded pistol on your belt, until you move all of your equipment to the pistol range. I am a newcomer to the Tucson area and still looking for a pleasant, friendly place to shoot where I will feel welcome as a fellow shooter and a customer. read more

Awesome facility. Clean, well run and fun. They have a 100 yard rifle range, a 200 Yard rifle, as well as a handgun range, and then a Gunsite carbine course and a pistol course. The place was not super busy at all on a Saturday. They also host many 2 gun and Action Pistol events. The guys there are super friendly, and the shooters were also great. I hate going to the range and being surrounded by know-it-alls, and gun snobs. This place is right off Oracle Rd just north of Oro Valley, near Catalina. Beautiful scenery and back drop. One of the best places I have ever been to. read more

I am from phoenix and went to a match at pima pistol. I went with 3 other friends. It was a terrible experience. It was very hard to find. The staff was very rude when they found out we where from phoenix. The place was very dirty and not well maintained. You should think about another club before shooting at Pima. read more

Fun for family, good for kids. We brought our own guns and had a great time here. It is an outdoor range and is not very crowded.
