We stopped here for a late lunch around 2pm on a Sunday after finding out the one restaurant we wanted to eat at was closed on Sunday...I guess they did not update their hours on their website....:-( Pimienta means Pepper so I knew it was going to be a place with some spicy food choices and in fact it was a Jamaican inspired place. Once we sat down, we were told there was a QR code on the table where we could open the menu and order...all the ordering is mobile based...nothing is order via human interaction. I ordered a Brown Stew Chicken and my husband got the Crossroads Cheeseburger. My husband ordered the cheeseburger medium with lettuce and no tomatoes...and the Mac and cheese side. When the burger arrived it was bloody red, so it was medium rare rather than medium and there was no lettuce. We asked for the waiter to fix which they did. The burger came back within minutes the way it was supposed to be...it was a good burger but nothing spectacular... My chicken dish was really good, not as moist as it could had been (or as I have had at other Jamaican places) but it was very tasty. The rice and beans was flavorful and the ripe plantains were nice and sweet. At the time to pay, you again, get on the app and pay with a credit card...a 20% service fee is immediately added to the bill, to cover tip and other fees. Not a bad place for a meal. I hadn't been here in a few years, and decided to go again! It was a Friday night around 645 and it was empty. Completely empty, aside from the employees. We got to pick whatever table we wanted, which i looked, but some of the chairs were VERY wonky and we had to switch tables twice before we were greeted. One of the tables also needed to be wiped down, but there were plenty others to choose from. I started with coco bread, which was great! I could have used more butter, they're was less than a Tbl, but I made it work. My curry chicken, again, was great! I got it with white rice and roti, which they are now calling roti skin... that threw me off. I've never heard of roti having skin attached to the title. It was so good, whatever you want to call it, and that's all that really matters! The gentleman who prepared all the food was nice and came out to see if we liked our food and would we like to try his non alcoholic drinks he made from scratch. The drinks had way too much sugar for my palate and not enough flavor, but he evocative that they put them on ice and they get watered down. If I could have tasted more raspberry I don't think the sweetness would have seemed so extreme. I will have to make it a habit to come down Caroline a bit farther to eat here more often! read more

We visited Pimenta while seeking lunch in historic Fredericksburg, and it turned out to be a great spot for Jamaican eats! Although I am not all that much familiar with Jamaican cuisine, it made me want more. We didn't know where to eat since there were so many dining options around. And for both of our entrees, we were able to pick two sides each, which we ended up sharing. We had the plantains, mac and cheese, rice with peas and Dunn's river beans. For a drink, I ordered a painkiler cocktail. It didn't take long for our food to arrive and everything was fantastic! We both enjoyed our food, but I can't tell if I liked the protein best or the different sides! All of the sides were really good, and would recommend to do what we did and share all the sides with a loved one, so you can try four instead of two! The plantains are best to be eaten last, like a dessert! The jerk chicken was tender and flavorful, so it didn't need as much sauce as it had on it. My boyfriend enjoyed his chicken stew in brown sauce, which I had a bite of and liked. Service was awesome here. Our server was very friendly and checked in with us throughout our meal. When he asked if I needed hot sauce and said I did, he brought out four different hot sauces! If that's not going above and beyond then I don't know what is. I've dined here twice and have been satisfied each time. This most recent visit is what encouraged me to finally write a review. What was it you ask... reservations!! I had a different restaurant in mind but called and told they didn't make reservations but around 5pm should be no issue seating two people. So we drive "farther south" for dinner and entered the restaurant only to be told the wait was 1.5 hours. What a bummer. Now it's Yelp to the rescue because, after all.. I don't frequent this town much. The useful cross reference app came in handy when I noticed that Pimenta was listed and was available for 5:15. At this point, dining somewhere new was out the question because of time so here we go. Pimenta was nearly 1.5 miles from the original restaurant, amble street parking was available. It was obvious the reservations is new because it somewhat threw off the staff member who was surprised to see it pop up on their screen. After being seated it took a longer while to order food (20 mins or so) but it appeared they make have been short of staff. Nonetheless, the server was friendly, attentive, and ensured us that we would have our food in time to make the upcoming event. The atmosphere is relaxing. The music is at a perfect level for conversation. The decor is inviting and simple. There is a small bar area near the entrance but I have not tried any cocktails or drinks. There is another section where people were exiting with instruments and band equipment. It appears there is live music at times which is unfortunate to have missed. Who doesn't love live music. The food arrived and it was hot, flavorful, and nicely plated. The jerk shrimp was spicy and seasoned to perfection. The curry shrimp was just the same. The cabbage was better the last time I dined here but still good. The egg rolls wasn't my favorite only because of the crust but the veggies inside were tasty. I've backed away from bread but having not eaten coco bread before I tried it and did not notice anything that stood out from any other bread. My boyfriend finally decided to try Pimenta. Best decision we've made since moving here in January. The egg rolls were one of the best appetizers I've ever eaten. My boyfriend got the jerk salmon and it was dug into and almost gone before I could get a photo. I got the curry chicken. It was good but I'm not a fan of bone-in meat so I didn't eat much. The waitress was also great, and was able to help with my food selection. They have a variety of options. Appetizers, burgers, soups, salads, seafood offerings, main courses, and desert. I was torn between the main courses. Options were curry chicken, goat, oxtail, jerk chicken. I went with the Curry Goat! Comes with 2 sides so I ordered the Mac (of course) and the cabbage. Food came out and man was I shocked. They definitely give you your money's worth, which some times is unusual for Caribbean restaurants. Not here. This portion was well worth my $16. Was able to have lunch for the next day. Always a plus for me. Everything was absolutely amazing. Goat was nice and tender with great flavor, mac and cheese was super creamy and was great with the mixing of curry sauce from the goat. As for the spice they had a variety of the grace brand hot sauces, which I like the fact that they had various options. Such a great experience! Glad to have a place like this in Fredericksburg. I went here on a whim when my husband and I stopped to grab a bit in Fredericksburg on the way from out of town, and a lot of other places were closing. I'm definitely glad we ended up here. It must be great. My husband got the oxtail. The food was definitely very flavorful overall but, for Jamaican, I needed more. I do really enjoy this place. They specialize in their Jamaican entrees. I'm not from here, visiting family and wanted try something different. Looked up on Yelp and this place popped up. Im happy it did. My oxtail dish was so soft and tender. Flavors were great I wanted to lick the plate. Love myself some plantains. Waiter Recommend peas and happy I tried it. Pimenta has a great menu that includes great appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees. The food here is pretty good and the atmosphere is pleasant! However, I really was taking aback by the 20% surcharge that was added to my bill for dining in. My bill was around $38 however after the surcharge it brought it up to almost $45. I was going to tip the waitress anyway, but I see portions of the surcharge are for various other fees. So, the waitress was only getting a portion of the $7 surcharge. In my opinion this is an unfortunate add on for individuals dining in or ordering out (there is a 10% surcharge for take out). So, gone are the days of charging a 20% gratuity for parties of five or more. It has now been replaced with this 20% surcharge per person and mandatory use of QR codes (instead of physical menus). They put in chicken, but it is all slimy skin, like no meat at all on the pieces. That totally grosses me out and is the reason I don't eat meat on a bone. The Mac and cheese sauce is really heavy on the flour, it's not completely cooked out, but it's ok. The beef patties are so hard I can't chew them at all, I can knock on them, and the meat had an off taste. They are 100% microwaved. That only happens when you throw stuff in the microwave. The Kingston egg rolls are ok, but have a ton of oil.
