Mikes text tone was not like Mikes phone tone he had with me throwing accusations were unnecessarily harsh. Florida Pool Tech, a reputable and honest company, who clearly stated that the filter previously installed was the incorrect size. The issue simply required replacing it with the properly sized filter. I want to emphasize that this was not a mistake on my part--I consulted with an employee, who looked up the information and sold me the filter. Despite this, I was informed that I would need to purchase a new filter and that no refund would be issued for the incorrect one. I do not believe I should be held financially responsible for an error made by a staff member. Avoid this store! read more

We use these guys for weekly service, and they take care of everything for a reasonable price. Our pool has always been sparkling clean. Recently when it suddenly turned green, I freaked out of course. Pugi, who is super knowledgeable about phosphates, came twice in one week to test and treat with chemicals, and now we're good as new. Horrendous! All the other terrible reviews on this and other sites are absolutely right! They either charged us and never came or they came and did nothing. We called over the course of two months. They NEVER returned our calls. Eventually a man named Scott called us back. He said he was the service manager. He just kept making excuses and saying it wasn't his fault the pool looks green with dirt on the bottom. He had no answer when asked who is responsible. I would think the manager is responsible. I said I wanted a discount because it was obvious that they either didn't come or didn't do anything for weeks. He said, and I quote, "well that isn't gunna happen". read more

Pinch a Penny did me a solid today. My cleaner broke and they could not find a replacement part as it was a part that you would think would never break. Dishonest, have a "not my job" attitude and several new pumps, motors, and pool cleaning equipment either didn't work at all or stopped working within months. Combative and unprofessional. I have been going to the Dunedin location since they opened and have never had a bad experience until today. Today I got to deal with the owner. I have never been treated so badly and talked down to in my life over dealing with a pool. Less than professional and the customer is apparently wrong about everything. I even ask a question about a pool pump that I had purchased from them recently and they install it and he wouldn't answer the question. He told me there is a thing called youtube. It's not like we don't pay a premium for help by shopping local instead of saving money by shopping online. I must be nice to be able treat people like this and feel good about themselves. Be aware of post that come out right after mine saying how great they are as that is 99% of the time damage control from friends or associates. stay away, they will steal your money and ruin your pool. Our pool was slightly acidic. they advised pounds of alkali, caused a cloudy precipitate that caked up the plumbing system, the filter, the pump, took a time and money to repair. I went to return my chlorine bottles since i would never go there again, they would only give me $2 of my $7.50 deposit, "company policy". there are plenty of good people to take care of your pool, not them. read more

NEW OWNERSHIP IS TERRIBLE. This is NOT the Pinch A Penny store that Dunedin residents have counted on for many years. The new ownership has really killed the customer service that was the previous owner's hallmark. I used to call him when I had a problem with my pool and he would troubleshoot it on the phone, knowing that, if I couldn't fix it, I would always call him. Now they won't give one minute of advice like that. I had a problem with my pool pump that they would not discuss. I called Leslie Pools and they diagnosed it on the phone for me. It was an instant, easy fix. I will never do business with this store again. read more

My husband and I have been going to this location for 3 years. We are new pool owners, so with that said, we have more questions than someone who has had their pool for years. We have been shown patience and understanding like this team honestly wants to help!!!!! Everytime we walk through the doors we are greeted with happy and pleasant employees, and most of the time we are personally recognized. That alone says something about the awesome customer service. The customer service that Dan (a/k/a Big D) provides is way above excellent. If there were 10 stars available he would get that. Not only is he very knowledgeable, he is super personable. I seriously would not go anywhere else for my pool needs. Dan goes the extra mile, for example (there are so many examples this is just one) Dan made some calls to see if our "cell" was still under warranty, he was on the phone helping us figure it out and we ended up saving $500 dollars because of his extra efforts. He really did not have to do that, but he did. He did not try to "make a sale" he took out the time to help us. Because of this I really feel I can trust him. He has proven that he is trustworthy on many occasions. Dan is truly as asset to this store. Everyone is great including Alex and Mike, but Big D is my favorite by far. He knows what he's doing. Since my husband's accident two years ago, pool maintenance has fallen to me. During the warm months I always feel welcomed when I bring in my water sample, and always get the right advice. Initially the pool was cloudy and green. Now I've been able to maintain clear water most of the time, and, if a problem occurs, the employees always help me. I have been going to this pinch a penny for years and Never have I been treated with such disrespect and in such a disgusting matter by such DISHONEST men!!! First as I was getting 4 gallons of chlorine for my pool after bringing back 4 gallons. I told the person filling the chlorine jugs "Fernando" that there was some chlorine on top of one of the jugs he had put on my cart and could I please have a paper towel to wipe it off as this has happened BEFORE and I did not want to ruin my new jeans! He refused stating it was not chlorine that it was just water. Then he states I will put it in the car for you. As I am paying I ask the owner Alex who is working at the register for some paper towel to since it looked like there was chlorine on the jug. Fernando walked in after putting the jugs in my trunk and he states that he put it on the plastic that was in my trunk for the chlorine. When I got home, not even a mile away from this place, I find that there is chlorine EVERYWHERE!!! Seriously all over my trunk on my beach chairs I mean Everywhere! Fernando Put the jug that had a chlorine puddle on the top, on it side on one of the beach chairs that were behind the plastic. He pulled some of the plastic onto one of my beach chairs laying the plastic on top. Then put the chlorine jug with the puddle of chlorine just sitting on the top, outside of jug, on it side so that the chlorine could run down the side getting all over my trunk!!! The chlorine that had been sitting on the top had literally went from one side to the other side of my trunk. I was so upset I tried to take out the chlorine jugs and like always the lids were NOT fastened on tight... But instead loose! BLEACHING my brand NEW jeans I had bought the day before! This had happened once before but the last time this happened I was wearing old pants so I did not care but this time I went straight back up to that pinch a penny. I went inside and stated "Are you the manager or owner? Alex responded yes. I told him what had happened and took him to see my car trunk. Fernando followed us out. When I stated what all had happened, the owner stated it was my fault because they could have bumped around and got the lids loose like that... Then I told Alex the owner what I had said to Fernando and what had happened when I tried to tell him that there was chlorine on top of the jug while they were both standing in front of me. Fernando then lied and told Alex the owner that there was never any chlorine. Alex then dismissed my claim and said that they NEVER have loose caps and that I was not telling the truth... That there was no puddle of chlorine on top of the jug. At this point I was about to cry!! 2 grown men LYING and NOT taking responsibility for their actions.. The worst part was the owner agreeing with an employee who was lying and who was treating a costumer with disrespect... When I showed the owner what the chlorine had done to my pants he stated he would do NOTHING as compensation. If you want to be treated with disrespect in a disgusting way by dishonest people then this is the place you would go. If you want honesty and loyalty go else where because these guys could care less about you and your family. read more

Just recently started using this place to purchase a cleaning unit for the bottom of my pool. Due to my lack of knowledge, the first and second one I bought did not work for my setup. They were extremely helpful and accepted both units back with no problem. They sent a service man to my house that solved the issues in about 15 minutes. The staff has always been very helpful and knowledgeable. I love that they take my heavy jugs of chlorine out to my car. It is nice to be able to take my water sample in and make sure that my pool is perfect for many hours of swimming fun. I went into the store on a Monday and set up a service call and described my pool pump problem to a young fellow- he told me that they would come on a wed. Afternoon and that they would call 30 minutes before arriving and then he wrote me name, phone number,and address down in a book - he then asked for a credit card and I told him that preferred To Pay by check and he said that as long as I would be home that would be ok. I waited until 5:30 on wed and called the store and told them that there was a no show and no call. The fellow who answered the phone said that I was scheduled for Thursday and I described my conversation with the fellow that I talked to regarding the date ,Not giving them a credit card and paying by check and he replied " we don't do that " pretty much calling me a liar. I have purchased a pool heater, sand filter, and pool sweeper from these folks but no more. read more

We have used this Pinch A Penny store since we moved to this home in October 2015 for weekly pool service. They keep our pool sparkling clean - - the one time we did have an issue they treated it and got it cleared up quickly. The reason for the 5-Star rating is their exceptional customer service above and beyond what we expected. We have had a couple of minor issues with our pump/filter in the past 6 months. I called Mike and he walked me through checking several things over the phone. When that did not solve the problem, he came by personally to help us get the problem resolved. Today, Dan "Big D" provided us help and advice with a major water level drop in our pool. He asked us questions, checked over our pump/filter and then made some phone calls to help get a leak detection company in to see us quickly. He even did a dive into our pool to inspect the drain and gave us a very detailed review of what he saw and what we could expect from the leak detection visit. This top notch customer service experience is why we will be loyal customers to this Pinch A Penny location as long as we live in this home. read more

I love this store, the staff is incredible because they are extremely friendly and are very informed about pools.Normally I don't call out other reviews, but I really disagree with the previous review. I've been going to this Pinch-A-Penny since I've moved to Dunedin, and have never had an issue with there pool recommendations, My pool is in pristine condition and I give this business all the credit; because they tell me exactly what I need to do to keep a perfect score on the chemical report. The chemical report is also free and Danny and Big D do a fantastic job with the chemical test.. Not only are they very quick at their jobs, but they are also really cool people and great to talk with. Everyone does a great job on the report, but I only remember their names so sorry. I give this business 5 stars because the customer service is fantastic and the staff has never given me bad advice when it comes to pools. I'm not sure what happened with the person who wrote the last review, but I can assure you that I''ve been coming here for almost a year now, nearly every week, and I have never had an issue with the store.
