Came here on Sunday around 1230-1pm and finally got to try this place. It is in the Tustin district so parking sucks because it's always packed especially on weekend. The restaurant is clean but small and not a lot of places to sit. The service was good. The fountain soda machine was broken at the time but I bought canned drinks and since the Coke cans were damaged they hooked it up with an extra can of soda so I'll say 10/10 service. The food was pretty good and the portion size isn't that bad. We got two lobster rolls one with everything in and the other plain, two crab rolls one with everything and one plain,one shrimp roll, and crab pasta. The plain ones for my daughter because she doesn't like sauce and likes everything plain. I love lobster and crab rolls so both 10/10. The shrimp roll 10/10 as well. The crab pasta was 12/10 and it was good. My daughter the picky one even liked it. The prices are not cheap but it okay and seems like the standard market price. There has been quite a bit of turnover at The District in Tustin, especially in the main corridor. Pinchy & Pals is one of the newer additions and can be found to the left of the AMC Theaters. It's described as "a playful fast seafood eatery, lobster rolls and coastal comfort food, high quality seafood". Their menu includes everything from tacos, pastas, a bisque, a chowder, seasonal items, desserts, and exotic sounding sides like Shrimp Cheese Fries and Clam Chowder Fries. I wish I could try everything but it's seafood, so menu items are still on the pricier side. I struggle with choices but in the end, we opted to try their signature Lobster Roll and Crab Roll. With each of these orders, the customer is able to select from one of 5 sauces and include unlimited add-ons (green onion, Oldbay, lemon, coleslaw, and cilantro). Make it a combo by adding fries and a drink for $3 (at the time of this review their soda dispenser was out of order). Both rolls exceeded my expectations! We grabbed a quick bite here while waiting for our reservation at another restaurant. We ordered the spicy crispy chicken, which came with a side of fries. The fries were actually really good, crispy and flavorful, although they were a little heavy on the salt. The chicken had a nice crispy texture, but unfortunately, it had little to no seasoning and wasn't as flavorful as I was expecting. Thankfully, the seasoned fries helped balance it out a bit. The vibe of this place is so cute. They did a great job with the decor and creating a unique girly beachside ambiance. Food: The chowder fries were the highlight for me! I would come back for these fries, decently priced and sized as a side (with an order of a lobster roll) and the fries were flavorful & crispy. Even got some pieces of clam. The lobster roll was okay for me. I don't like it drenched in mayo or heavy sauces, my favorite is always butter and lemon, but I felt like this lemon and butter roll was a bit lacking a flavor and I end up dipping it in the clam chowder fries for some extra sauce. Service: 10/10! The lady at the register was so sweet and I loved how they packaged the food for us with even a couple jolly ranchers in the items and branded napkins and the cutest bag. The soda machine wasn't working so they gave us cans of soda and even gave us a few extra for the road. I love how this is an order and sit situation so it feels more casual and we can get in and out pretty quickly. It's basically a chicken breast sprinkled with chili powder, and there's nothing special about the crunch, juiciness, or tenderness. At $13, I'd rather go to Jollibee. Pinchy Bisque: Average. There's a small amount of risotto at the bottom and a few thin strands of what seems like crab meat. I think the garlic was cooked too dark/burnt as the sauce was really bitter. I think the sauce was also overseasoned as it was very salty. I thought the lemon might balance the sauce out but the sauce was overwhelming. I ended up not eating much of the sauce as it was just too much. The service was okay! You order on a kiosk. The food took a little wait to come out as well. Also the spicy chicken said it came with spicy aioli but it didn't come with any. When we asked the server, she said you had to order it. First off, this spot has great food; they have a solid variety of seafood-centric sandwiches, pastas and appetizers with their main feature being their lobster rolls. I enjoyed their "Spicy Sue" which is their take on a Maine style Lobster roll with spicy aioli and Old Bay seasoning. Generous portion of delicious lobster and they nailed the seasoning The couple times I have gone however, the wait was teetering on almost half an hour with little to no other customers. The service staff that are doing the real work have always been great/friendly but I've noticed that some of the leadership do not share the same vibe. I usually never get lobster/ seafood rolls because they just seem so pricy, but it didn't seem bad here. We got the pinchy flight which included lobster, shrimp, and crab roll with fries. At first I thought maybe my taste buds were off because I was sick, but my husband agreed it was far too salty. The place is cute and service is decent. And let me tell you - the fries are so crisp and delicious. With that said, I may need to give this place one more try because my lobster roll tasted strongly of the sea. Not in an inedible way, but not in the freshest, juiciest and plumpest way I dreamed of when I read the other reviews. Besides that, the brioche bread was incredible. If they served that as a butter toast at a bakery, it'd be a treat! I just wish that for the price of over $25 after taxes there were a bit more of lobster to give it that beautiful plump bite that makes lobster rolls feel satisfying. It may be the proportion of knuckle meat (near the shell, almost tastes and looks like shrimp) was maybe too high in this roll compared to the claw and leg meat. With that said, their dipping sauce was also excellent (and had me almost down all my fries while trying to diet...yum!). All in all, I loved the carbs at Pinchy & Pals. This place just opened up at the district right next to AMC. I have never had a lobster roll to compare this to, but the OG was packed with meat and flavor. During their soft opening this week, they are offering a buy one get one 50% off the rolls. The only downside was that I kind of was still hungry after eating one, and at $23 a pop, I wasn't going to grab a second. The takeout bags are fancy, the take out boxes come specialty-wrapped in branding, the napkins are branded, they even include what looks to be branded wet wipes (but are actually plastic gloves?). And yet. No a/c in their establishment, even during a heatwave. Had to be at least 85 degrees inside the place. Soda machine on the fritz with no carbonation. Fish and chips with fish that was so dry and chewy I honestly questioned if it was chicken, covered in breading that was kind of rubbery and FULL of black pepper. Fries are also covered in black pepper. My husband took one bite and said "this honestly may be the worst fish and chips I've ever had." 2 stars for the excellent service of the guy behind the counter and for his general positive attitude despite working in terrible conditions. We were excited to try Pinchy & Pals based on the excellent reviews, but it wasn't a good fit for our family. If you're looking for a comfortable sit-down dining experience, this isn't it. There was no dedicated restroom, very limited seating, and we waited about 25 minutes outside in the heat for our food despite the restaurant being very small. The menu also leaned much more heavily toward fried seafood than we expected, with limited lighter or healthier options. The food was decent, but for the portion sizes and overall experience, we didn't feel the prices represented a good value. This is a delicious and fast grab and go food spot! We tried several dishes to share, lobster roll, coconut shrimp, shrimp cheese seafood fries, and soy ginger noodles.
