Great location....and great selection of all things delicious. I'm a huge fan of their breakfast pizza ($1 slices on Wednesdays), and their politeness. Rain or shine, someone will always say hello the second you walk through the door. It's more of a "truckers" stop with an attached restaurant, but there's something about feeling like a "trucker" that definitely feels bad ass. Unlike most truck stops, the facilities are constantly spotless. Like Stephen said, everything is made fresh, and usually done indirectly in front of you. Tons of treats and sweets to satisfy the most particular eater. Stop, and you I gurantee you will not be disappointed. read more

Best stop off of the entire length of 94 for freshly cooked food of ridiculously sizable portions and truck stop/ diner service. We've made this the stopping point from Milwaukee to the Dells and back, as well as any of our trips up to McCoy. The menu covers all bases of baked, fried, grilled and gravy-laden, and our refills were free. The servers were even suitably amused by the random drunken behaviors of our parties and others. My first visit to the Pine Cone was about a week ago. I was so much in awe of the place I had to go back just to make a second check on the esteem I held for the place. I was not disillusioned one iota. My first visit involved breakfast. We must start at the beginning.I asked for coffee and received a thermos full; at least three cups worth. I love it when restaurants use this approach to serving coffee. I ordered chicken fried steak. I consider this to be a mark of a fine breakfast restaurant. It came with hashbrowns, toast, and two eggs. I upgraded my hashbrowns to include cheese and onions. The food was delivered to the table so quickly after I ordered I thought that something on these plates must be a premade product. If there was such a thing I couldn't detect it. I was very surprised when my breakfast came on two large plates. One was just for the chicken fried steak and sausage country gravy. The chicken fried steak was a big thick hunk of steak; you could actually taste the steak. The sausage gravy had chunks of sausage in it and the gravy itself was on the thick side as I prefer it. The hashbrowns took up most of the second plate with just enough room to fit my two over easy eggs on. Layered on top was my raisin toast. That's right, raisin toast. How many restaurants offer that as an option? This wasn't your store bought small thin piece of raisin toast either. Two large slices of what had to have been home made raisin bread. The hashbrowns were tight and well cooked. The cheese and onion additions turned out to be overkill for me. As much food as was given me, I am almost ashamed to say I ate it all. It is a rarity that I just couldn't stop enjoying myself. Today's visit was not much of a stretch from the first. I tried the chicken fried pork chop. This time I asked for my hashbrowns plain and the crispier the better. I got just what I asked for. Including me, everyone at the table kept staring at the largest chicken fried pork chop they had ever seen. This time I also selected the cinnamon toast option. Again this must have been a homemade product and each piece was a double thick cut and just larger than your average grocery store loaf. Each visit also was enhanced by a visit to the unavoidable bakery cases. It is hard to describe just how large some of their products are; namely the cinnamon buns, sticky buns, and chocolate eclairs. Suffice it to say when I got home and pulled out my tape measure the chocolate éclair was 9 X 4 X 3 inches. after eating here, i've come to the conclusion that this place serves up super fattening delicious food that will keep your hunger satiated for a good long while, but your food goes from kitchen to table in a surprisingly short amount of time. 15 mins after we ordered we had our food, and the place was at capacity. Fiance had philly cheese steak sammich and fries, and i had a bowl of chicken and dumpling soup and a bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sammich on a croissant. VERY RICH in flavor, and is totally delicious. Our server was a litl busy, but she checked in frequently to make sure everything was ok. we left with pastries. fiance's eclair was HUMONGOUS & heavy. My slice of cheesecake was super rich, super yummy, and in the words of adam richman: "food won this time" I could NOT finish it in one sitting. It told me who the boss was. When faced with the dreaded problem of where to go for dinner & dessert, this place will always be at the top of the list, however, if you're cautious about what you're eating, you're better off staying away from here. read more

How can the bathrooms be so gross every time we pass through here? Regardless of day or time, they always smell like 1000 people just competed in a synchronized peeing contest. Also, what is up with all the nasty racist graffiti in the ladies room? Is there an annual Nazi convention held in the area? Was going to pick up a few goodies from the bakery, but there were 3 flies living in the display case, so no. I guess I'll stick to Kwik Trip from now on, at least their bathrooms are consistently clean. read more

Stopped here for lunch with friends. The bakery counter really hits you when you walk in the door. The assortment is something to behold. Cookies and cream puffs the size of my hand. These could be shared desserts, but why bother save some for later. Ordered the chicken dumpling soup and a chicken salad sandwich. Dumplings were substantial just like the one's my mom made. Very delicious. The chicken salad was fresh and not too much onion, if any at all. We all agreed we would stop in again. read more

Great place for a filling meal with low prices. Traditional diner feel that fits in nicely with the small town. I've come here a few times and gotten traditional Midwest food each time - meat and potatoes of some sort. Never been disappointed. Every time we are going "up north" from Kenosha, we have to stop by Pine Cone. This tradition started as I was a little girl. We even stopped there on our mini-honeymoon to the Dells. This is a good restaurant if you like massive amounts of baked goods and diner type food. The bakery was cheap. I got a frosted sugar cookie the size of my head for 99 cents. Since I can't eat gluten, my options here were very limited. The service was okay. This would be a good place to stop while on a road trip or when going to Johnson Creek Outlet Mall. read more

Pretty much everything a diner/family restaurant should be. Great pancakes, sandwiches, excellent soups - be sure to add on the enormous dinner roll for .75! I'd skip things like steak and ribs here - but everything else I've had here has been perfectly good. Stopped in for breakfast before a long day of holiday shopping. It had pretty much everything I usually look for in a breakfast place. Hot coffee, friendly service, cheap prices, filling portions. I got the Denver Skillet and I was not blown away by the taste. For a truck stop though, I can't complain. In reality, the only thing keeping me from giving it a four or a five was a little seasoning. My biggest disappointment was really my own fault...I didn't save enough room for dessert! It was only on the way out that I got a close look at all the delicious desserts up at the counter. They're all comically oversized and look absolutely delicious. I hope to visit again and just go straight for the dessert so I can give the Pine Cone a better rating. read more

A true road side greasy spoon. The atmosphere is relaxed and the decor was homely. THE BAKERY IS INSANE. If you are a true carb addict then this is the place to carb load your brains out. I ate here twice (mostly due to the lack of other similar like breakfast eateries and part due to my friends compulsion to eat here as much as possible) The Lunch was ok, it had enough grease to lube a 18- wheeler but the Breakfast was delicious. If I lived around here I could see myself going back but I shan't be trekking back to the Land of Cheese Curds for the Pine Cone. read more

I'm giving five stars, I wish I could give 10. Michelle our waitress was like the best waitress we've had in years. Anyone giving less than five stars I believe should have their head examined. Great value, great food, great Service also great bakery counter. I had all you could eat broasted chicken, salad ,mashed potatoes a dinner roll (huge) and chicken dumpling soup, 6.50 that's like free. We drove 45 minutes to eat here from Sussex Wisconsin, and I'm already thinking about the next time I get to go here. read more

I have been to the Pine Cone many times and have always been satisfied with the quality and quantity of the food. The menu is large and varied and has more than the average truck stop. My most recent visit was extra nice due to the great service. The waitress was prompt, professional, attentive and very friendly. I will be back soon and would like to get Kiana as my waitress once again. And as always you have to pick up some fresh made baked goods on your way out. They are simply scrumptious. read more

It seems to always be busy here and it's easy to see why. The family-style restaurant that can turn out good food (especially breakfast food) with friendly service will always do well. I had the chicken dumpling soup along with my club sandwich. The dumplings in my soup were huge! and the broth was wonderful. The portions here are almost too big as no one inour party, including my 14 year old boy, could finish their meal. We passed on the bakery items but there was a great selection and the cookies, muffins and rolls were big enough to feed three people. The decor is a bit dated but it fits with the small town, truck-stop feel of the place. read more

This review is based on the service of my visit today. This was my third time coming for breakfast, first 2 times were fine service but slow. Today's service was ridiculous, everything was wrong! We are seated for at least 5-10 minutes with no server coming to take our drink order (the restaurant was about 1/2 full so not too busy) . The waitress seemed like she was in another world. She had us repeat our ordered several times (surprising since she got them wrong). We both ordered coffee and had to remind her twice for our coffee, we didn't get our coffee until our meals were already there and it was cold. Than she got our orders completely wrong. I ordered the #4 eggs&cakes. What I received was 2 eggs, hash browns, 1 pancake and no bacon?! Not what I ordered at all. Than we had no silverware,napkins or syrup. By the time she gave us silverware our food was cold. Worst service I ever had. read more

We stopped for dinner last night and all had the all you can eat fish fry / fried chicken. Comes with 3 side items and a huge dinner roll for only $9.99. I have eaten here several times & never had a good meal. My broiled cod dinner yesterday was the worst. I received a plate of iceberg lettuce that was thrown in front of me by our waitress. The cod was over cooked & had no flavor. The baked goods may be what keep people coming back but the restaurant food is horrible. read more

I just stopped for breakfast my omelot dry didn't get the cheese i requested. The ham was dry in omelet. My toast was warmed bread not toasted. We travel between Milwaukee and Wisconsin Dells throughout the year. For years the Pine Cone was our go to stop when traveling to and from the Dells with our children for snacks. The Pine Cone Restaurant has affordable prices and servings are generous. The bakery items are huge and decently priced. We used to stop at the Shell Gas Station connected to it for coffee, but they changed brands and it is terrible. In the last year we have opted for Quick Trip for coffee, bananas and donuts instead of their giant cookies and Eclairs. read more

I had lunch at the Pine cone restaurant yesterday. The service was very prompt and friendly. The place was very clean and comfortable. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Check out was quick and easy, they had two people manning two cash registers. I mention the items above because I saw some negative reviews about these areas. Came in around 12:30. Took a little to be seated, not too bad. Took a long time to be waited on though. The soda was brought to the table within 5 mins, my ice tea wasn't. Had to flag her down for it and then got the regular not the raspberry which was brought after I said si. Waiting time for the food was very long about 20 mins, actually there were 2 that came after us, got their food and left about the time we got our food. It was 3 of us only. My niece who is from North Carolina and I stopped in for lunch on our way home from the Dells. We had sandwiches and purchased some bakery. One of my purchases was the massive cream puff. My niece was staying at my parents house Sunday night. We had Kopp's hamburgers for supper. So we were too full to eat the cream puff so I left it for my parents or for anyone else who wanted it. Monday my Dad calls me asking where I got it so I told him Pine Cone restaurant in Johnson Creek. He said it's not that far and to go get him another one. I told my mom I might be heading to Deerfield for a game night with friends next Saturday. I said if I go I will stop there and get him his cream puffs. This is as good as it gets! We were roadtrip-ing through WI and randomly stopped here for breakfast to combat some seriously hangry passengers. First thing you see is a bakery that makes you feel like thumbellina, the items are ALL so big! We sat in the dining area and ordered from a large menu. There was something each of the four of us wanted (which can be difficult). Food was pretty standard but well presented and overall not too greasy or oily. It actually tasted fresh and the hashbrowns were crispy. We had a fabulous waitress Jenn who even took my husbands plate back to the kitchen to keep warm when he stepped out to take a work call (he hadn't eaten any yet, so it wasn't a health violation or anything). This place was a great find on our trip, and with beachball sized baked goods for the road we headed out happy and with very little dent in our wallet. In fact, we liked it so much we returned the next day for breakfast on our way back West. :-) read more
